Multiple suspects identified from beating of employee resulting in injuries near Cordova and Carrera streets on March 3.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — No arrests have been made as St. Augustine Police Department investigate a video from earlier this month showing multiple people striking a city employee.

At 12:35 a.m. on March 3, officers responded to a city employee possibly shot by a BB gun.

The victim said on March 2 he called dispatch about a truck driving with no lights shooting a BB gun at people. When the victim stopped in the area of Cordova Street and Carrera Street to pick up some trash, a “group of subjects” approached him from the south, the report said. They asked the victim if he was the one who called dispatch and he said he “might be the same person.”

Police say that’s when two suspects charged the victim, and struck him multiple times. Then the victim said that approximately 10 people joined in with attacking him. The agency said the cameras of nearby businesses showed the victim “… getting thrown to the ground multiple times and it appears as though multiple subjects attempt to throw punches and kicks at him.”

He received treatment at the scene from the St. Augustine Fire Department.

SAPD identified two teen suspects in the report, though the agency’s investigation is ongoing.

The suspects were described as “a white male with long, curly, black hair, and was wearing a blue longsleeve shirt” and  “a white male with a tan fishing shirt on.” In one of the videos a female can be heard telling someone to stop and calls his name out ‘Mason,'” the report said.

The police department released the following statement:

“In the early hours of (March 3, 2024) a group of young adult males attacked a City of St. Augustine worker while he was working. If you are able to identify any of the subjects involved, please contact the Detectives Division with the St. Augustine Police Department at investigations@staugpd.com or via phone at 904-825-1092.”
