One woman ABC7 spoke with said she heard a gunshot and saw her neighbor, the victim, running out of his home screaming as another neighbor called for help.
“I was at home and all of a sudden, I heard a gunshot,” said Callie Stone. “And then I heard screaming as well so I ran to my window to go look.”
Then she saw her neighbor, covered in blood, as one of her other neighbors was calling for help.
“He was just screaming, like ‘Hurry up, I am bleeding.’ I think he was scared,” Stone said.
Sanura Evans, who also lives across the street from the shooting, was in class at Neuqua Valley High School when she heard about the shooting on her block.
“I was scared, so I started texting my mom. She didn’t answer the phone, so I started calling my brother. I was calling everybody, because that’s when I heard ‘Leach Drive,’ and that’s the street we live on,” Evans said.
Evans’ high school was one of five nearby schools that went on lockdown after the shooting as a precaution.
“The street was blocked off, so many cars, people trying to pick up their kids. It was crazy,” Evans said.
