JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Lows tonight will be after the coldest afternoon since mid-January when temps the day only reached the low 50s we are headed to the the coldest night for the rest of the year.

A morning cold front blasted us with a chill that could bring lows into the mid 30s by sunrise. While very few people will freeze across NE Florida a select few could see a light freeze.

A freeze warning is in effect for areas west of I-295 in Duval County and along I-10 from 11 P.M. tonight until 8 A.M. Wednesday. Areas over inland Nassau County and west of I-95 in Southeast Georgia could also reach the low 30s.

The winds will hinder frost tonight but freeze conditions could still kill crops and plants.

The freeze will impact 6-thousand residents in the Westside and over 130 thousand people altogether in the viewing area, but most of those living across NE Florida will stay above freezing. Temperatures will not be as cold as Jacksonville’s first freeze on November 30th.

However counties from Nassau and Baker and points west and north should cover sensitive vegetation but the cold will not require protecting pipes.

A northerly breeze blows overnight around 5-8 mph making wind chills will dip to near 30 in those areas that have lows in the mid 30s.

.

After Wednesday morning milder weather returns and the long-range forecast shows no cold outbreaks until possibly New Year’s Eve likely making this the last freeze of the year.
