This is the hilarious moment Rory McIlroy’s ball landed in the lap of a spectator at the DP World Tour Championship. 

Fresh off of a sloppy bogey on the previous hole, the Northern Irishman arrived on the par three 13th tee to make amends. 

However, after lining up his iron shot, the world No 2 was disgusted with himself after spraying the ball right. 

When the 34-year-old made his way to the greenside he was then stunned to find his ball had come to rest in a spectator’s lap. 

After being told to remain in her original position when the ball landed on her, the woman nervously smiled as the four-time major champion pretended to play the ball off of her lap.

The official informed the major champion that he had to drop the ball where she was standing

Sharing a laugh over the incident, McIlroy waits for a rule official to come over who tells the player to drop the ball where the woman has been sitting. 

Although the golfing star may have been laughing when he walked up to his ball – he certainly wasn’t when he left the hole with a consecutive bogey.

McIlroy has, however, already been named the DP World order of merit champion for this season after Max Homa won the Nedbank Challenge last week in South Africa. 

The Northern Irishman was unfortunately unable to save his par from this position, however
