A shark appeared to be swimming through streets flooded by a nor’easter in New Jersey over the weekend. The good news: It was reportedly a harmless species without the sharp teeth associated with more dangerous sharks.
A Surf City resident captured video of the animal moving through the floodwater Saturday. In the footage obtained by ABC News, its dorsal fin rises above the surface near a woman’s driveway.
“Is that a little shark?” a woman asks in the video. “Oh my God, he’s coming this way.”
The animal appears to be a dogfish, a shark commonly found in the region. Unlike species known for attacking humans, dogfish do not have sharp teeth, according to Dr. Greg Skomal, a white shark expert with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.

The shark reportedly swam toward a home on Long Beach Island after Barnegat Bay overflowed into Surf City. Parts of the community were covered by as much as four feet of water during the weekend flooding.
The powerful nor’easter triggered extensive flooding along the East Coast, while winds reaching 70 mph left thousands of people without electricity.
