The former spouse of the man involved with Maya Millete testified about how she discovered his infidelity through the missing woman’s husband, who is currently on trial for her murder.
Maya, a 39-year-old mother of three, mysteriously disappeared in January 2021. She was last observed driving her vehicle into the driveway of her $1.3 million Chula Vista home, located about 10 miles from San Diego, California.
Though her body has not been recovered, Maya is presumed dead, and her spouse, Larry Millete, faces accusations of her murder, allegations he firmly denies.
Maya was engaged in an extramarital relationship with a colleague, Jamey Laird, and was actively pursuing a divorce from Larry, her husband since 2000.
On Thursday, Jamey Laird’s ex-wife, Patricia Laird, provided testimony during Larry’s trial, revealing that Larry persistently contacted her to expose the affair prior to Maya’s disappearance, as reported by NBC San Diego.
Patricia, a San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy, said she briefly kicked Jamey out of their home in February 2020 after she saw him Instagram messaging another woman.
Shortly after, Patricia testified that she started to receive phone calls from Larry telling her about their spouses’ affair.
Although she reunited with Jamey and got pregnant with their first child after he denied the affair, she said Larry continued to call her, and she ended up blocking six different phone numbers associated with the Millettes.

‘I didn’t want to be part of the drama. I wanted to focus on my pregnancy. I wanted to move forward and not be part of this triangle,’ she said.
On January 5, 2021, two days before Maya vanished, Patricia testified that Larry called and told her that Maya had confessed to the affair.
Patricia then called Maya and confronted her about the cheating. She claimed Maya told her she was lying to her husband because he was crazy.
‘I asked her if she was scared or intimidated, and she said no. I asked because that’s my profession,’ Patricia said on the stand.
‘When people say, “crazy,” they need to elaborate more, especially because they’re bringing their drama toward me. And she’s talking about divorce, and Jamey loves you, and all of that. When she said crazy, I needed to ask, “What do you mean?”
‘I offered her some restraining order resources if she needed it and she said she would go to the Chula Vista Police Department if she needed it.’
Patricia went into labor on the day Maya disappeared, January 7, 2021, and testified that Jamey was at the hospital with her until January 10.
She said that the calls from Larry stopped after Maya went missing, and she and Jamey eventually divorced after he came clean about the affair.

When Jamey testified earlier this week, he admitted to lying during police interviews after Maya disappeared.
He confessed that he was in love with Maya, but said he had deleted their messages when his wife went into labor.
He testified that he was concerned for Maya because of her husband’s controlling behavior and admitted he had argued with her because Larry had contacted his wife about the affair.
Jamey told the court that he had rebuked his mistress and said to her that he could not ‘have this happening.’ He was also grilled about his initial statements to the police.
Larry has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and illegal possession of an assault rifle.
