A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Southern California and was widely felt across the region – the same day as a 5.7 quake shook Hawaii.

The quake struck at 1:47 p.m. at a depth of 9.5 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

From its epicenter in the rugged Santa Monica Mountains, the tremor was large enough to be felt from the Malibu coast north to Bakersfield, south to San Diego and east to downtown Los Angeles.

Video shared to ABC7LA by a pet owner in Westlake Village shows the moment her dog Butterscotch felt the tremor.

Butterscotch appears to be sleeping at the top of a staircase when the quake strikes. Wearing a blue sweater, she is jolted from her slumber and goes down the hallway before running down the stairs as the rest of the home rattles.

A man from Oxnard, California posted footage of his two dogs very different reactions to the earthquake.

His two pups were napping when the quake struck, jolting one of them up while the other continued to sleep.

Jordan Lyubenov shared security camera footage with KTLA that shows the walls, windows and furniture shaking inside his home in Playa Vista.

‘Oh my God! It’s still going. That was the biggest one we’ve had yet,’ a woman said.

Jordan is heard accurately guessing the magnitude, ‘That was more than 4. That was close to 5.’

The tremor was initially recorded at a magnitude of 5.1, but was later downgraded to 4.6 on the Richter scale.

About 91,000 people got alerts from the MyShake app, according to California’s Office of Emergency Services.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, no significant damage were identified and no serious injuries have been reported.

The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center reported that no tsunami was triggered.

Officials have advised residents to be prepared in case there is another earthquake and the USGS warned there is about a 1-in-20 chance of a larger quake in the following days.

Friday is the 53rd anniversary of Southern California’s 1971 San Fernando earthquake, which was recorded as magnitude 6.6. Also known as the Sylmar earthquake, it killed 64 people and caused over $500 million in damage.

Earlier in the day, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck south of Hawaii’s Big Island, rocking buildings and triggering huge tremors across the state.

The earthquake hit at an ocean depth of over 22 miles around 1.5 miles of the Kau Coast.

Residents on the island of Oahu – over 200 miles from the epicenter – reported severe shaking and some damage, however it is unclear if the earthquake has resulted in any deaths or injuries.

Stunning footage captured the moment the earthquake violently shook a home in Hawaii, leading a man and boy to frantically race to escape.

Witnesses said the powerful quake sent shockwaves across the state.

‘I was sitting in my truck and I thought there was something wrong with my truck,’ Hawaii Island community leader Ikaika Marzo told KTRE.

‘A bunch of people felt it around me.’
