The Golden Globes nominations were announced early Monday morning, delivering a surprising twist as three of Hollywood’s most buzzed-about celebrities were notably absent from the list.
Comedians Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall unveiled the nominees for the 83rd Golden Globes, set to air on January 11 from the iconic Beverly Hilton. The announcement revealed a mix of anticipated winners across 28 diverse categories, celebrating everything from grand musicals to critically acclaimed dramas.
This year, the awards also introduced a new and somewhat controversial category for Best Podcast. While some nominees took a significant step closer to Oscar consideration, others faced unexpected setbacks.
The most surprising omissions included well-known stars Sydney Sweeney, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwyneth Paltrow, who did not make the cut.
Sydney Sweeney had been a prominent figure throughout the awards season, engaging in extensive promotion and press engagements to highlight her intense performance in “The Christy,” which was widely seen as a strong contender.
Her film has been heavily discussed since festival season, and industry whispers suggested she was heading toward a landmark career moment.

Instead, she was iced out completely.
After weeks of fighting for a nomination, the 28-year-old star was left on the sidelines as her competitors – and even lesser-hyped projects – snagged spots.
For someone who has dominated red carpets, headlines and casting announcements, the snub felt especially brutal.
Meanwhile, Paltrow also received the cold shoulder, despite receiving wide praise and review for her supporting role in Marty Supreme.
Her co-star Timothée Chalamet even scored a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), heightening expectations that she too would join the conversation.
Fans of Lopez expressed devastation over her snub for her acclaimed work in Kiss of the Spider Woman.
There were several other high-profile omissions on Monday’s ballot, including Bradley Cooper (Is This Thing On), Tessa Thompson (Hedda) and Julia Roberts (After The Hunt).
Wicked: For Good earned recognition for its music, its director Jon M. Chu, and its globe-trotting cast, but failed to secure a nomination for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy).

Oddly enough, Jacob Elordi secured two nods from two different projects, neither of which were Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.
Kathryn Bigelow was also passed over for Netflix’s anticipated nuclear-drama House of Dynamite, marking a rare miss for the Oscar-winning director.
Kristin Scott Thomas did not land a nomination for Slow Horses, even though the fifth season of the series earned recognition and Gary Oldman received an acting nod.
In the newly introduced Best Podcast category, both Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro missed out entirely despite aggressive and highly visible campaigning.
Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce’s record-breaking podcast New Heights, which featured a Taylor Swift’s guest appearance in August, was also overlooked.
Additionally, Taylor Sheridan’s Landman was completely shut out, continuing the filmmaker’s pattern of strong viewer popularity but limited awards-season traction.
HBO’s hit series, The Gilded Age, also completely struck out and Nigerian-British actress Wunmi Mosaku was snubbed for her supporting role in Sinners.
Shawn Hatosy, who recently won his first Emmy award for his role as Dr. Jack Abbot in The Pitt, was another surprising dismissal.

The ceremony, set for January 11 at the Beverly Hilton, will honor winners across 28 categories, one day after Helen Mirren and Sarah Jessica Parker receive lifetime-achievement honors at the Golden Eve Ceremony on January 8.
The Leonardo DiCaprio-led epic One Battle After Another emerged as the biggest film contender of the year, collecting nine nominations across major categories, including Best Picture, Director, Screenplay and Best Actor.
Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn also landed Supporting Actor nods for their roles in the film.
It will face Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice and Nouvelle Vague in the Best Picture – Musical or Comedy category.
In the Best Picture – Drama race, Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Values and Sinners will compete.

Netflix’s hit Adolescence built on its Emmy success with five nominations.
Stars Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, Owen Cooper and Ashley Walters all earned acting nods, and the series was recognized in the Best Limited TV Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for TV category.
Sixteen-year-old Cooper picked up a Supporting Actor nomination, while Doherty will compete in Supporting Actress against several White Lotus cast members.
The White Lotus narrowly surpassed Adolescence with six total nominations, driven largely by its expansive ensemble.
Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value scored eight nominations, placing it just behind One Battle After Another.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners earned seven nods, while Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet and Jon M. Chu’s Wicked: For Good followed closely with five each.
Although Wicked: For Good performed strongly in acting and craft categories, its absence from Best Musical or Comedy was considered one of the day’s biggest surprises.
All categories include six nominees this year – except Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which features eight. Nikki Glaser returns as host for the second consecutive year, following a well-received 2025 performance.
Helen Mirren will receive the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award on January 8, with Sarah Jessica Parker honored with the Carol Burnett Award at the same event.
