Taylor Swift Eras Tour Movie: When to get early showing tickets

WASHINGTON — Fans of Taylor Swift have eagerly been awaiting the premiere of the concert film version of her “Eras Tour,” but in a surprise announcement on social media, Swift announced the waiting would end early for some.

The “Eras Tour” concert movie, a three-hour film of one of her tour dates, was originally scheduled to premiere in theaters on Friday, Oct. 13.

But Wednesday night, Swift gave a surprise update.

“Look what you genuinely made me do: due to unprecedented demand we’re opening up early access showings of The Eras Tour Concert Film on THURSDAY in America and Canada!! As in… TOMORROW,” the pop star wrote. “We’re also adding additional showtimes Friday and throughout the weekend.”

Swift confirmed tickets to the new showings, including the ones for Thursday, would be available at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Although the Eras Tour isn’t slated to leave the Americas until 2024, when Swift will tour Europe, Japan and Australia, she confirmed that the film version would show in theaters in 90 countries across the would, opening up viewings for international audiences.

The concert was likely filmed at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium in August. During the first three of Swift’s six nights at the stadium, there were extra cameras around to catch the performance, launching initial speculation that a concert film was coming.

She’s already done concert films for previous albums, such as “Reputation,” which premiered on Netflix. But this will be the first time Swift will make a dent in the traditional box office.

AMC’s website lists the runtime of the film as 2 hours and 45 minutes, about half an hour less than the 3 hours and 15 minutes that Swift’s sets have taken in stadiums for the past six months. It’s likely the difference is due to cutting costume changes and set adjustments between songs.

Tickets are available for purchase at AMC Theatres, Regal Theater, Cinemark and Fandango.

The record-breaking stadium tour has already amassed a reputation of its own, with tickets being difficult to come by due to high demand and government inquiries launched over the handling of its presale by Ticketmaster.

While most concert films have a short shelf life in theaters, the Swift experience will likely have more staying power. AMC Theaters has already promised at least four showings per day on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday while it remains in theaters.
