Authorities have arrested a Pennsylvania teenager suspected of killing Penn State student Billy Schmidt. The teen was apprehended at a relative’s home in Colorado, ending a month-long search that concluded just hours before his alleged accomplice surrendered to law enforcement, officials revealed on Thursday.
The U.S. Marshals Service announced that 16-year-old Azzubair Outen-Fleming was detained in Colorado Springs after attempting to conceal his identity. He is currently held in a juvenile detention facility while awaiting extradition back to Philadelphia.
Earlier in the week, warrants were issued for Outen-Fleming and fellow 16-year-old Kaiseem Smith, both implicated in the fatal shooting incident. Smith subsequently turned himself in to Philadelphia police, just hours after Outen-Fleming’s capture had been disclosed by the Marshals Service.

According to Fox 29, Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore confirmed that Outen-Fleming has been formally charged with murder.
Schmidt, 22, was killed during an armed robbery attempt in Philadelphia that happened on June 6 at around 1:30 a.m.
Officers found him with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a local hospital where he died minutes after the shooting, which was captured on surveillance video.

In the footage, Schmidt is heard demanding his phone back before a gunshot is heard moments later.
The video shows a man throwing a cellphone before another individual can be seen running around a corner, while being chased by Schmidt, who was then shot in the chest.
Schmidt’s father, Bill Schmidt, told ABC7 that his son was on his way home from a bar where he was watching the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs with friends.

“He was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone and for him to get shot like that is a travesty,” Bill Schmidt said. “I’m shocked when they stole his phone that he chased them.”
