Teen Struck by Car While Escaping Prom Night Shooting: ‘A Night Turned Tragic

A terrifying incident unfolded for a teenage girl, who was struck by a car while desperately fleeing a mass shooting at her prom party, as reported by police and family members.

Jordyn Williams, a 17-year-old junior attending Muskegon High School, suffered multiple fractures and was rendered unconscious while escaping gunfire that erupted shortly before midnight on Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in Fruitport, a small town located roughly 30 miles from Grand Rapids. The shooting resulted in four people being injured.

Williams, among two individuals hit by vehicles amidst the pandemonium, is currently in intensive care, awaiting surgery according to her family.

“The evening went from enchanting to horrifying,” her parents expressed on a GoFundMe page. “Our daughter began the night full of excitement, looking stunning and all set for her prom. That memorable evening turned into a nightmare with gunshots breaking out at the high school prom after-party.”

“In her frantic escape, she was tragically struck by a car, leaving her unconscious with numerous injuries and broken bones. Now, I remain by her bedside, witnessing her struggle for recovery with tubes inserted for her breathing. Yet, I am thankful she is stable and showing signs of improvement,” they shared.

Four people were shot at the party and rushed to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Williams’ father, Andre Williams, told Fox 17 that his son told him his daughter had been severely injured trying to escape the carnage.

“From what I understand, there was several sets of shots. She kind of ducked down, from what I was told. And then when the second set of shots happened, she just darted off and tried to run away,” Williams said.

The second person struck by a vehicle and the four shooting victims have not been identified.

Fruitport Police said the shooting started as a dispute between two or more people, and that multiple people fired guns.

Police had not announced any arrests as of Wednesday morning.

The Williamses are raising money to help cover medical expenses and make their home wheelchair-accessible once she’s discharged from the hospital.

The Michigan VFW shooting came just hours after a 17-year-old was shot and killed taking pre-prom pictures at a local park in Tennessee Friday.
