In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, a 69-year-old woman from Fort White lost her life after her motorcycle collided with a car. The accident occurred on County Road 778, a two-lane stretch situated just east of Fort White, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The woman, who was riding a three-wheeled Harley Davidson, was traveling westbound behind a 2009 sedan operated by a 17-year-old boy, also from Fort White. According to the FHP, she attempted to overtake the sedan on the left within a designated passing zone.
Unfortunately, as she maneuvered to pass the vehicle, the teenager began to slow down and initiated a left turn onto SW Fortune Way. This led to a collision between the car and the motorcycle, resulting in the fatal accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this heartbreaking outcome.
At the same time, however, the teenager was slowing down and attempted to make a left turn onto SW Fortune Way, colliding with the motorcycle.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, FHP said. The driver of the sedan and his 20-year-old passenger were not seriously injured.
An investigation by the agency is ongoing.
