When it comes to finding the perfect gift for the woman who seemingly has it all, Travis Kelce appears to have found the answer in a stunning suite of jewelry with a storied past. This exquisite collection, once belonging to the legendary Elizabeth Taylor, has recently found its way into the spotlight once more, thanks to Taylor Swift.
In recent weeks, Swift has been seen gracing various events adorned with these opulent opal jewels, previously owned by the iconic movie star. Her first public appearance in the collection was marked by a ring and a round-cut bracelet, which she wore during an April outing in New York City. Following that, she donned a similar marquise-shaped bracelet for her New York Times Magazine interview.
The Grammy-winning artist then made headlines again when she was spotted in Brooklyn on a Saturday night, showcasing the entire set. This included both bracelets, the ring, and an eye-catching pair of chandelier earrings. This dazzling display prompted Adam Fox of Fox Estate Jewelry to share an Instagram Reel, hinting that Kelce might have acquired this unique collection as a gift for Swift.
Crafted by designer Darlene de Sedle, the complete jewelry suite was initially sold at a Christie’s auction in 2011 for a modest $6,000, as confirmed by Page Six Style. Later, Fox’s company sold it through 1stDibs in 2025 for an impressive $125,000.
According to Fox, the transaction occurred “during Christmas time,” and the purchaser was a sports agent—a client profile rather unusual for his business.
“On the majority of these online platforms, for higher-ticket items, somebody will reach out, ask questions. Sometimes they will try to negotiate, sometimes they won’t. This just randomly sold,” the third-generation estate jeweler told Page Six Style.
Despite the “very strange” nature of the purchase, Fox shrugged it off — that is, until he woke up on Sunday to a post from Instagram account WeWoreWhatJewels showing the full suite on Swift.
“I was like, ah, this makes so much more sense,” he told us, adding that it was “very cool” seeing jewelry he sold wind up on one of the most famous women in the world.
As for whether Kelce (or a member of his team) was the mystery buyer?
“I’m just the jewelry dealer,” he demurred. “I just had to assume. And the only reason I assumed that was because it was going to a sports agent.”
Fox had initially been drawn to the suite due to its Hollywood provenance, “very good” quality and unique designer; while Taylor reportedly owned a number of Darlene de Sedle’s pieces, the jeweler’s far from a household name.
“It’s not something that’s ever run across my desk,” he said of the set, crafted from black opals and natural Australian crystal set in 22-karat gold.
And following the 2011 Christie’s sale, the pieces disappeared from public view for more than a decade, adding to their intrigue.
“I’m just glad it went to somebody that actually appreciates it. I know Taylor Swift has a song about Elizabeth Taylor, and it all makes sense. It seems like it was bought with a lot of purpose; there was obviously a lot of thought put into this one,” Fox said.
“And coming from somebody like Elizabeth Taylor and going to somebody who, among today’s generation, is just as recognizable as Taylor was back then? I think that’s very cool.”
