AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two people died and two others are hurt after a shooting at a Target in north Austin Monday afternoon, according to a news flash sent to Austin City Council and the mayor obtained by KXAN. Austin Police said the suspect is detained, a social media post said, and will hold a media briefing.

Austin Police said the shooting occurred at the Target located at 8601 Research Boulevard, just before 3 p.m., the post said.

The suspect is described as a white male possibly wearing khaki shorts and a Hawaiian/floral shirt.

Police urged the community to stay away.

“DO NOT APPROACH. For your safety avoid the area,” police said.

APD also said the 8000 block of MoPac southbound frontage road is shut down between Executive Center Drive and Anderson Lane.
