Illinois Democrats reject Trump’s offer to help curb Chicago crime
Harris Faulkner has turned the spotlight on the growing violence in Chicago, highlighting President Trump’s repeated attempts to send the National Guard to the city. This suggestion, however, has been met with sharp criticism from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who argue that Trump does not grasp the city’s specific safety requirements and has even withdrawn funding from key safety institutions in Chicago.
The victims, identified as a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, were found in a vehicle parked on the 5900 block of South Ellis Avenue, near popular local landmarks like the Midway Plaisance Ice Skating Rink and Harper Quad, around 5:35 p.m., according to NBC 5 Chicago and the police.
Authorities confirmed that both suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head.

The man and woman were transported to the university hospital in critical condition, but were later pronounced dead.

A firearm was recovered from the scene, police said.
Video of the scene showed that the vehicle, which was damaged, appeared to have crashed either during or after the shooting, NBC 5 Chicago reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
“This incident is currently under investigation, and we cannot confirm details at this time,” a Chicago Police Department spokesperson told News Media.
