Surprise slither on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
In an unusual encounter, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were greeted by a collection of snakes after a man abruptly abandoned the exotic creatures during a confrontation. The man was reportedly using the snakes as a way to earn money from tourists.
“Today, our Hollywood VICE officers were on the Walk of Fame and encountered a man showcasing exotic snakes to tourists for cash,” read a post on social media from LAPD Hollywood.
The post continued, “When officers approached him, our ‘Snake Señor’ made a quick exit on foot, leaving the reptiles behind. Nice try, compadre.”
Officials have not disclosed potential charges against the man or whether he has been apprehended. Possessing certain exotic animals without a permit is illegal, and local vendors must have a permit for any commercial activities in the area.
The officers ran into the man while patrolling the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He then fled, leaving several large snakes.
“Looks like the only thing getting squeezed today was his escape plan,” the department joked.
LAPD’s social media post was set to “La Culebra,” Banda Machos’ song advising people to watch out for snakes.
“‘Ay la Culebra!’ (Watch out for that Snake!),” the department said.
It’s not illegal to own a snake in California, but certain species require a “restricted species permit” that carries a variety of associated fees and rules.
