Authorities are keeping the possibility of foul play open in the disappearance case, though it remains uncertain if it is a contributing factor.

CATALINA FOOTHILLS, Ariz. — The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has announced that Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie from the “TODAY” show, is missing from her Catalina Foothills residence in Arizona.

Officials report that Guthrie was last observed on Saturday evening at around 9:30 p.m. at her home, located near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue.

During a Sunday night press briefing, Sheriff Nanos revealed that search and rescue teams are actively looking for Guthrie. Meanwhile, deputies have reached out to nearby hospitals, but there have been no sightings of her reported.

The sheriff also noted that homicide detectives are currently investigating the scene as part of the ongoing efforts.

It is unknown if foul play is a factor in her disappearance and Nanos said the department is not ruling it out at this time.

“I don’t need to tell you, this is very concerning to us,” Nanos said. “We don’t typically get the sheriffs out at a scene like this.”

Guthrie is 5’5″ and 150 pounds, and she has brown hair and blue eyes. She has no known mental or cognitive challenges.

It is unknown what she was wearing at the time of her disappearance.
