Video Shows Ukraine and Russia’s First-Ever Drone Battle at Sea

The encounter at sea ended with no survivors.

Ukraine’s navy has published video it describes as showing the world’s first combat clash between sea drones.

Captured from aboard a Ukrainian remotely operated vessel, the footage appears to show the drone boat opening fire on a Russian ship.

“This marks the first-ever naval engagement between uncrewed surface vessels,” the Ukrainian Navy said in a statement shared Saturday on its Telegram channel.

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency also took part in the mission, according to the statement. The navy identified its remotely controlled craft as the Sargan 3000, fitted with a 12.7 mm “Protector” weapon.

The reported sea drone battle comes amid a war increasingly shaped by unmanned warfare. Russia has used Iranian-made and other so-called kamikaze drones in attacks on Ukrainian cities, while Kyiv has expanded its own drone capabilities.

Since Vladimir Putin launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Kyiv has built a growing arsenal of drones designed both to counter Russian attacks and to strike targets ever farther inside Russia.

The Post could not independently verify the timing of the incident or determine which vessel was destroyed.

Just last week, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps boasted about a US Navy drone sub it captured, raising fears it could try to reverse-engineer the technology or hand it over to Russia or China.
