WAYCROSS, Ga. — A shooting in Waycross Friday night left one man dead, with the suspected shooter now in custody, according to the Waycross Police Department (WPD).

Police identified the victim Saturday as 35-year-old Jacob Garrett Cothern, a Waycross resident.

WPD said officers responded to the shooting, which happened near the intersection of Snelson Street and Old Brunel Street, around 8:22 p.m.

Once on scene, officers reportedly found Cothern with multiple gunshot wounds.

While additional officers were responding to the scene, WPD said they encountered 29-year-old Brandon Frick a short distance away.

The police department said Frick was armed and attempted to leave the area. Officers reportedly engaged him and took him into custody at the Ware County Jail, WPD said.

Frick has been charged with murder.
