Yes! The Rookie has officially been renewed for a ninth season.
“So far, the mindset across the board is, as Melissa O’Neil said, ‘Let’s Grey’s Anatomy this thing,’” series creator Alexi Hawley told Deadline when speaking about the show’s Season 9 renewal. “I think everybody is having a good time, it’s a cast that truly loves each other and enjoys coming to work, they get to do fun stuff every day. And at this point, heading into Season 9, I don’t feel like we’re anywhere near out of ideas.”
What’s The Latest on The Rookie Spinoff?
Production on a pilot of a Rookie spinoff, the Jay Ellis-led series The Rookie: North, is already complete. The show has yet to officially be ordered to series, with Deadline reporting that the program is in contention with R.J. Decker for a spot on the ABC schedule. We should know the network’s decision soon, with the Disney Upfront event scheduled for May 12.
The series follows Alex Holland (Ellis), the oldest rookie of the Pierce County Police Department, and also stars Chris Sullivan, Janet Montgomery, Froy Gutierrez, Mya Lowe, Karen Fukuhara, and Malik Watson.
