SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) – In Springfield, the Sacred Heart-Griffin baseball team is once again proving its prowess this spring, as it gears up to defend its 2A state championship title. With the postseason rapidly approaching, the Cyclones are already making impressive strides on the field.
While the team takes pride in watching former Cyclone standout Sam Antannoci make waves with the Chicago White Sox, they remain focused on their own objectives. The current season is shaping up to be another successful one for SHG, as they strive to build on last year’s achievements.
Head Coach Nick Naumovich has acknowledged the valuable experience that the returning members of the 2025 championship roster bring, despite the graduation of some pivotal senior leaders. New players have emerged as leaders, demonstrating the team’s resilience and adaptability. “Our seniors this year have learned to observe first and communicate later, a skill they picked up from last year’s leaders,” Naumovich observed. “They’ve done an excellent job integrating younger teammates into the varsity squad, fostering a cohesive team atmosphere from day one.”
Anticipation builds as the IHSA baseball playoffs kick off with regional quarterfinals scheduled for May 25 and 26. The Cyclones are poised to make a significant impact as they aim for another victorious postseason run.
