Whoopi Goldberg has criticized Republicans who have remained silent on former President Donald Trump’s incendiary comments regarding Rob Reiner, who was tragically killed alongside his wife in their Los Angeles home over the weekend.
In the wake of the shocking murders, allegedly committed by the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, Trump took to Truth Social. He posted a baseless claim that Reiner died due to his “massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” Later that day, Trump reiterated his disparaging remarks, labeling Rob Reiner as “deranged” and “very bad for our country.”
During a recent episode of The View, Goldberg responded sharply. “You know who’s bad for the country?” she asked. “This man’s family is in deep mourning. The way you’ve spoken and doubled down on it makes you bad for the country, makes you very bad for the country.”
Goldberg went on to praise several prominent Republican lawmakers, such as Louisiana Rep. John Kennedy, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, and New York Rep. Mike Lawler, for their willingness to denounce Trump’s inappropriate comments.
“There’s something we all understand,” she added. “When something horrific happens, we come together. We don’t divide because someone didn’t like you. That’s not how we respond.”
The moderator also put the Republican politicians who haven’t come out against Trump’s remarks on blast, looking directly into the camera as she said, “There is no justification for him to have written what he wrote. There is no way to justify it. And all of those Republicans who are quiet, damn you all. Damn you all.”
Joy Behar, for her part, added Trump’s latest post to the long list of outbursts that will destroy his legacy.
“For years to come and the generations ahead of us, when we’re all dead, this stuff is gonna be in the Smithsonian for years. Everybody’s gonna know what he said,” she declared. “His legacy is in the dumpster. He doesn’t care though.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
