Hubers and Taylor were married in a jail ceremony and divorced less than a year later
Hubers and Taylor tied the knot on June 7, 2018 in a two-minute ceremony at the Campbell County Jail, according to the Cincinatti Enquirer. Taylor is a transgender woman whose legal name was Richard McBee at the time of her incarceration. She spent more than a decade in prison.
“[Hubers] is married to a person who spent 14 years in federal custody and has now been detained in Tennessee with another warrant for something else,” said Michelle Snodgrass, a Campbell County Commonwealth attorney, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Shortly after her marriage, Taylor was transferred to another detention center in Tennessee, the article says.
Her divorce was finalized in March 2019. Hubers told a judge that she had not spoken to her spouse since January 2019 and filed for divorce a few days later. A judge agreed that Hubers’ life sentence meant the marriage was “irretrievable,” the article said.
Hubers Appealed Her Sentence & the Kentucky Supreme Court Upheld
Hubers filed an appeal in his case, alleging there were problems in the selection of the jury and the location of the trial, according to Local 12 News. However, the Kentucky Supreme Court upheld her ruling in 2020, the news outlet reported.
Hubers, whose full name is Shayna Michelle Hubers, is incarcerated in the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women, a medium-security prison, according to her prison record.
She could be eligible for parole in 2032, she tells her her prison history. Today, Hubers is 30 years old. She was convicted on September 28, 2015 and began serving a sentence on August 14, 2015, she tells her her prison record. “She knew she was going to die or her face was completely deformed,” Hubers said in a clip played on the show. “He’s very vain … and wants to get a nose job. Just that kind of person and I shot him right here. I did the nose job he wanted.”
She later told the police: “I did. Yes, I did, ”and she stood near the wall and sang“ Amazing Grace, ”according to the show.
