Netflix Reality Star Faces Arrest for Alleged Assault Following Dating Show Filming

Blake Robertson, currently featured in the fourth season of Netflix’s “The Ultimatum,” faced arrest following accusations of assaulting his girlfriend, Hayley Hendrich, soon after filming concluded.

The incident occurred last October in Nacogdoches, Texas, where Robertson was arrested at a local business over claims that he struck Hendrich, according to a report by TMZ.

Hendrich informed the outlet she chose not to pursue charges against Robertson. Despite this, she mentioned that while they have discussed the matter privately, she desires for Robertson to take responsibility publicly.

Robertson’s legal representative, Sean Hightower, explained to TMZ, “Blake’s case was justly dismissed by the prosecutor almost immediately, and all records have been expunged.”

Efforts to obtain a comment from Hendrich by Page Six were initially unsuccessful.

Robertson and Hendrich are one of six couples who are starring on Season 4 of the hit Netflix reality show “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On.”

On the series, which hit the streaming platform last week, the couple decides whether they are going to stay together or date new people after switching partners.

Robertson gave Hendrich an ultimatum after two years of dating: get married or end their romance. However, she was reluctant to head to the altar because she wants Robertson to “open up more emotionally,” per Netflix.

Hendrich chose to explore a connection with Killian, who was on the series with his partner for four years, Ashley.

Meanwhile, Robertson chose to date Ashley for the social experiment.

After a fierce argument went down between the initial couples, Hendrich and Robertson decided to stay together.

The final two episodes of Season 4 of “The Ultimatum” air on Netflix on July 22.

NFL Star Saquon Barkley’s Family Home Invaded in Terrifying Break-In

Saquon Barkley, the notable Eagles running back, and his family found themselves in the unsettling position of victims during a home invasion that took place early Saturday morning. This incident occurred at their Chester County residence, as confirmed by the county’s district attorney’s office, according to a report by NBC 10 Philadelphia.

The unsettling event unfolded at approximately 5 a.m. in the Malvern area of Tredyffrin Township.

Upon receiving a burglary report, township police promptly responded to the call. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, the suspects quickly fled the premises. While one suspect reportedly managed to enter the former Giant’s home, it appears that nothing was taken, authorities said.

Barkley and his family were inside the home during this alarming invasion, yet thankfully, all emerged physically unscathed.

“All of the occupants in the home were physically OK, obviously a little unsettled as anybody would be, but nobody was harmed,” stated Capt. Tyler Moyer from the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, providing further reassurance following the troubling incident.

“We are incredibly grateful that the Barkley family was not injured during this incident. We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area around 5:00 a.m. If you saw anything unusual or have video that may assist investigators, please contact the Tredyffrin Township Police Department immediately,” the D.A.’s office said.

Authorities are tracking down the remaining unknown details of the incident, including information around a large white SUV that may have been involved, but more than one vehicle could have been used.

“We know there’s more than one, but we’re still trying to determine how many were involved,” Moyer added.

Barkley, who has been prepping for his third season with Philadelphia, is the latest victim amid growing security concerns around professional athletes.

Within the last year, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Sabrina Ionescu had home invasion incidents of their own.

Only a matter of days ago Spain star Lamine Yamal’s home was targeted just hours before their World Cup semifinal match.

And within the last two years a spate of other NFL stars have had their homes burglarized, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

“We will look at all angles of this because we know, obviously, it’s been all over the news in the past few years about different professional athletes’ homes getting burglarized,” Moyer said.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office is assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Mel C Stuns in Victoria Beckham’s Designer Wedding Dress

0

On Saturday, Mel C basked in the joy of newlywed life, sharing a tender moment with her husband, Chris Dingwall, just after they exchanged vows surrounded by family and friends.

The iconic Sporty Spice, renowned for her affinity for tracksuits, transformed into Bridal Spice for her special day. She stunned in a backless satin wedding gown that highlighted her elegance.

At 52, the singer flaunted her tattoos in the graceful dress, adorned with slender spaghetti straps that accentuated her toned physique.

With a bridal bouquet of wild white flowers in one hand, Mel C cozily nestled against her Australian model husband with the other, emanating pure happiness.

The couple appeared completely enamored as they stole a private moment away from their guests at the picturesque grounds of the Country House Cumbria, nestled in the serene Lake District.

Watching on as she tied the knot, were Mel’s Spice Girl bandmates Emma Bunton, Mel B and Geri Halliwell-Horner, but Victoria Beckham was unable to attend as she is in the US at the World Cup.

However, Victoria ensured she was still involved in her pal’s big day, as she designed Mel’s stunning wedding gown.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘It was a gift from Victoria; they are really close. Victoria would have loved to have been there if she could.’

A source close to Victoria added: ‘It was her great pleasure to make the dress for Mel.

‘She was sad she couldn’t be there because she’s in the US with David and, of course, the World Cup plans had been set for a long time.

‘But she was wishing her all the best from afar for Mel’s special day.’

Despite Posh’s absence, guests say that it was a ‘perfect’ ceremony, where Mel’s daughter Scarlett, 17, from her relationship with property developer Thomas Starr, acted as a bridesmaid.

However, there was a slight hiccup when a herd of cows from a nearby farm ran towards the Victorian venue while the singer and Chris were saying their vows. Guests looked alarmed when they saw the animals.

Sources say that the couple wanted an ‘intimate’ wedding, and while they were joined by her fellow Spice Girls, it was expected to be a small affair.

A source added: ‘Mel and Chris wanted an understated wedding, she didn’t want a big flashy day but something smaller and very classy.

‘Mel swore she would never get married, having a big do wasn’t really for her.

‘It is the perfect venue for them, totally out of the way but in the most beautiful place and everyone had the most fantastic time.

Nestled in the picturesque Cumbrian countryside, the Country House Cumbria claims to be the ‘perfect setting for an elopement, small, sophisticated wedding’, which Mel is said to have been keen to have.

It is co-owned by West End actor Ben Forster, who starred alongside her the the stage production of the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar in 2013, and his property developer partner Paul Longman.

Mel met Chris, thought to be in his 40s, in 2023 on the exclusive dating app, Raya.

She admitted she originally thought she was finished with romance following her split from previous long-term partners, including Thomas Starr.

But during a night out at the pub, her friends convinced her to download the app, turning the search for a partner into a game they jokingly dubbed ‘boy Bingo’.

Mel matched with Chris while she was in London and he was living in Sydney.

Despite the distance, she had an upcoming Australian DJ tour planned and decided to take a chance on the model.

Mel recently opened up about her future with Chris – and whether wedding bells could be in their plans.

She told The Times in January: ‘It’s something I didn’t think would be part of my story, but I’m so happy with Chris. Maybe it is something that will be in my life.’

In May, she explained how elements of her new album Sweat were inspired by her future husband-to-be.

She said: ‘Not long into making the record, I met somebody new, I fell in love, and so I ended up having this wonderful arc of emotions throughout the album – of heartbreak and then that excitement of a new relationship.’

She added to The Telegraph: ‘He’s very laid-back. He’s loads of fun… we work out together. We have very similar personalities and lifestyles.’

Mel had previously sworn off marriage, but in a recent interview she admitted her deep loneliness during her Spice Girls years contributed to her battle with depression.

The singer wrote about her clinical depression diagnosis in her 2022 memoir, Who I Am: My Story, revealing how she hit rock bottom when the Spice Girls split in 2000 and her issues with binge drinking and binge eating intensified.

Mel has explained how her depression ‘was very environmental’ and stemmed in part from feeling ‘lonely’.

At the height of the Spice Girls’ fame in the late 1990s, most of Mel’s bandmates were in settled relationships. Victoria had married and welcomed her first child with David Beckham by 1999, Mel B married first husband Jimmy Gulzar in 1998 and had her first child a year later, while Emma Bunton began a romance with her now-husband Jade Jones in 1999.

Meanwhile, Geri Halliwell was enjoying a string of high-profile romances, leading Mel to admit she felt left behind.

Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, she said being single ‘has been quite a big theme of my adult life, really. It was a long time before I was in a long-term relationship’.

She insisted she never dated a fan, explaining that the perception of sex and fame going hand-in-hand was wide off the mark.

‘It’s completely different. I mean, don’t get me wrong, other people had a better success rate than I did,’ the popstar explained.

‘You know, like historically with boy bands or rock bands, it’s like, “Oh, you know, pick a member of the crowd… bring her back”. Our gigs weren’t like that.

‘They were full of young girls and gays, which are the best audience. You just don’t get any action. But it was quite lonely for me at times.

‘I think there was many times in the band when we were working together where I was the only one without a partner… I would have liked to have dated. I had a dry spell. That’s what we call it.’

Mel went public with Australian model and writer Chris in 2024 after months of speculation about their romance

She added that her depression came from ‘the experiences that I’d had, and just getting to that point where I couldn’t continue living the way I was living’.

‘That was a really long road back to health, and I never really stopped. It was a different time as well, because I probably would have benefited to go off and have some time to heal, but I was touring and promoting my solo stuff,’ she said.

Mel did have some high-profile romances in the 1990s, including a brief, month-long fling with Robbie Williams in 1997 at the height of their pop fame.

In her memoir, Mel writes about how she was left heartbroken by Robbie after he ‘behaved badly’, claiming that the Take That star led her on and then ‘abruptly’ dropped her, which left her heartbroken.

‘It was a million years ago and lasted two seconds. Oh God, that sounds really bad. Oh, well,’ she told Theroux.

Mel went on to have a four-month romance in 2000 with another boyband star – J Brown from 5ive, with the Mel C admitting she is still friends with her ‘lovely’ ex.

‘I’ve not spoken to him for a while actually, but he’s an ex I’ve remained friends with. I don’t remain friends with many exes, but he’s a lovely boy,’ she said.

‘I saw Robbie recently. I mean, God, we were kids. Do you know what I mean? It’s like we’re talking like, 20-odd years ago. Nearly 30 years ago. It’s a long time.’

England vs. France: The Untold Stakes Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

0

As England and France prepare to face off tomorrow, the match isn’t quite the World Cup climax either team envisioned.

Following their losses in the semi-finals to Argentina and Spain, the teams will battle it out for third place at Miami Stadium, with an early kickoff set for 7am on Sunday (AEST).

“Neither our players nor the French squad are interested in this match,” admitted England’s coach Thomas Tuchel.

Kieran Jackson, a senior sports writer for The Independent, has criticized the necessity of the fixture, urging FIFA to discontinue what he deemed a “pointless” game, often seen merely as a consolation.

Although they won’t be competing in the final — which takes place Monday morning — both teams still have something to prove.

The Golden Boot race

For one, the Golden Boot is still up for grabs. The trophy is awarded to the player who scored the most goals in the tournament, with assists used as a tiebreaker.

Argentina’s Lionel Messi currently leads the race with eight goals and four assists, while France’s Kylian Mbappé is level on goals but trails with three assists.

Kylian Mbappe, a French football player, dressed in blue and white with the number 10 on his chest, stands on a football pitch with his arms raised in celebration.

England’s Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are also in contention, with six goals and one assist each.

While either player would need a remarkable hat-trick to overtake the front-runners, presuming they don’t score, the chance to finish as the tournament’s top scorer could provide extra motivation for the forwards to go on the attack.

A farewell for Deschamps

The match will be Didier Deschamps’ final game as France coach after 14 years in charge.

His tenure has included his side winning a World Cup title in 2018, a runner-up finish in 2022 and three consecutive semi-final appearances.

A middle-aged white man in a suit is walking on a football pitch. He has his arms raised as he claps.

The match gives his players one final opportunity to send off the man who transformed France into one of international football’s most consistent teams.

“We aren’t headed to the match we were hoping for, but we still have a match to play and we have a duty to fulfil,” Deschamps said ahead of the third-place playoff.

“When you wear the France shirt, it’s not just about what you get, it’s also about giving back. It’s the standard I set for myself, for my staff and for the players too. We have a responsibility towards every France fan who has followed us and shared in our ups and downs.”

England’s best finish in 60 years

For England, victory would secure their best World Cup finish since winning the tournament for the first and only time in 1966.

Since then, they have lost both of their previous third-place playoffs — against Italy in 1990 and Belgium in 2018.

France have enjoyed far greater recent success, winning the 2018 World Cup before finishing runners-up in 2022.

Chance for fringe players

After a gruelling five-week tournament, both teams could use the match as an opportunity to rotate their squads and rest key players.

That could provide valuable World Cup experience for players who have spent much of the campaign on the bench.

English midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is yet to play a minute of the tournament, but the 21-year-old could make his debut if Declan Rice — who has been battling illness — is rested.

A black football player wearing headphones and a hoodie jumper with his arms in the pockets

Other English players, including Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney, have only played a few minutes each and may be eager to get in on the action.

France’s 2018 champion N’Golo Kanté is also yet to take to the field. At 35, this could be his final chance to appear in a World Cup.

The prize money

The winner will also take home more prize money.

The third-placed team will be awarded US $29 million ($41.5 million), compared to the fourth-placed team’s US $27 million ($38.7 million).

Alabama Resident Charged in Decade-Long Online Feud Leading to Veteran Couple’s Tragic Deaths

0

An Alabama resident faces charges in connection with the deaths of a military veteran and his spouse, despite appearing to portray them as close friends on social media over the years.

Authorities apprehended George Birmingham, 46, early Sunday following the alleged murder of Justin and Lena Elrod, discovered deceased around 12:15 a.m. amid burglary reports. Birmingham’s social media activity paints a picture of closeness with the Elrods, having posted affectionate tributes as recently as June 16.

An examination of Facebook posts by News Media indicates a relationship of approximately ten years between Birmingham and the Elrods, with mentions of the couple stretching back nearly a decade.

On June 16, Birmingham shared a Facebook post pondering a hypothetical Mars mission, listing friends and family he’d like to accompany him, including Justin and Lena Elrod. He lauded Justin as an excellent listener and Lena as enjoyable to debate with, concluding with a heartfelt “I love you guys!”

“Now that I think about it, they probably wouldnt want our tribe,” Birmingham wrote as he jokingly ended the post. “But im very thankful for them.”

In February 2017, Birmingham also shared information about a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses for one of the Elrod’s children, writing, “This family is very dear to my heart.” That May, Birmingham even hosted a benefit comedy show to help further with medical expenses for the Elrod’s

Birmingham also referenced the Elrod family in a June 2018 post, writing “Some of my favorite ladies,” alongside a photo that included one of the Elrods daughters.

According to WBRC, a motive hasn’t been established, but authorities said Birmingham was an “acquaintance” of the Elrods.

Court records indicate Birmingham was accused of killing Lena Elrod with an electric saw and stabbed or struck Justin Elrod in the head with a metallic object.

Aliceville Mayor Terrence Windham described Justin Elrod as a hard worker who was humble.

“He was a very humble guy, and he was the last person that I would think that something like this would happen to,” Windham said. “He survived the military, survived working in the prison, and now, this situation, it just makes it even worse.”

Birmingham is also the suspect in a separate burglary that happened before he allegedly killed the Elrods’, authorities said.

Birmingham was arrested on charges of one count of capital murder, two counts of murder, one count of burglary and additional drug-related charges, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20.

Trump’s Explosive Beijing Revelation: Unveiling Surprising Letters

0

The Issue: President Trump reveals China stole American voter registration data in a primetime speech.

In a significant revelation, the president announced that China had illicitly accessed US voter information, underscoring the long-guarded suspicions of voter fraud (“Beijing’s U.S. voter hacking,” July 17). The disclosure has already sparked widespread conversation over election security.

The next crucial step involves taking decisive action and pursuing legal charges to address this breach of American democratic processes.

Donald Smith

Pagosa Springs, Colo.

China’s meddling with US voter data isn’t shocking to many, given its history of influencing elections in nations like Canada and Taiwan. Such activities have long been a point of international concern and governmental scrutiny.

Trump is right to expose this. But why is he always saying what a great relationship he has with Xi Jinping?

Andrew Delaney

Jamaica Estates

What Trump conspicuously left out in his speech was that members of his own administration acknowledged they found no evidence of voter fraud that could have changed the outcome of the 2020 election.

I doubt this will be the last time the president claims the 2020 election was rigged before midterm elections. I hope that each time the president talks about the issue, fewer and fewer Americans will believe him.

Denny Freidenrich

Laguna Beach, Calif.

Deciding the thrust of Trump’s lunatic screed was false, NBC and ABC chose not to televise it and CBS cut away from it to start debunking it before he was even finished.

What’s worse — that neither of our last two presidents has been mentally stable or that the mainstream media is determined to manipulate our views?

Matthew Brief

Manhattan

Citing “vulnerabilities” in a system is one thing. But to prove that US voting machines were hacked to change votes or that US citizens were actively involved in such efforts, well, that’s something entirely different. Until I see names and criminal indictments, this means very little to me.

Arthur Saginian

Santa Clarita, Calif.

Did the president discuss the soaring cost of living or the disastrous stalemate in our war against Iran? No; he used the opportunity to again make baseless claims about the security of United States elections.

His unwillingness to accept the result of an election that he lost is unique to this president, and it is destabilizing to our system of elections and our country.

The Issue: Mayor Mamdani’s World Cup watch party with detainees at Rikers Island.

In a photo taken with convicted criminals inside of Rikers Island, Mayor Mamdani watched the England vs. Argentina World Cup match so he could gain political brownie points (“Zo’s prison goals,” July 17).

He made buddy-buddy with criminals while those who are victims of criminals must be insulted. Evidently, our mayor loves putting criminals, illegal migrants and those who get free assistance of every kind above honest hardworking people of New York City, which insults law-abiding citizens.

Joseph Comperchio

Brooklyn

The hits just keep on coming with Mamdani. Our illustrious mayor saw fit to attend a World Cup watch party at Rikers Island with numerous alleged felons and other prisoners. The taxpayer-provided menu included salmon, penne à la vodka and chicken parmesan.

The mayor stated that every New Yorker deserves to have their dignity affirmed. Does this also apply to the victims of their crimes?

Mr. Mayor, your place is with crime victims, not crime perpetrators.

Kenneth Fitzgerald

Hicksville

This mayor should be visiting the families of crime victims, not prisoners at Rikers Island. Who voted for this commie?

Charli XCX Stuns at Matty Healy’s Wedding, Amid Swift Ties

Once connected by friendship, Charli XCX and Taylor Swift now find themselves embroiled in a feud so intense that rumors suggest the stars have composed diss tracks aimed squarely at each other.

Charli seemed to add fuel to the fire this past weekend by showing up to the wedding of Taylor’s former flame, Matty Healy, who tied the knot with model Gabbriette Bechtel.

The 33-year-old hitmaker dazzled at the celebration, donning a striking black gown that featured a daring thigh-high split, perfectly accentuating her toned legs.

Charli’s elegant dress, detailed with ruffles, hugged her figure flawlessly. She completed her eye-catching ensemble with chic black heels and a stylish clutch.

The picturesque Castillo del Lago, once owned by Madonna, served as the wedding venue, where Charli was accompanied by her husband, George Daniel. Influencers Stassie Karanikola and Devon Lee Carlson, along with actor Duke Nicholson, reportedly also made appearances among the guests.

While it made sense that Charli bagged an invite to Matty’s wedding – given her husband is his 1975 bandmate – it’s unclear if she received an invitation to Taylor’s wedding earlier this month.

A source exclusively told the Daily Mail that Matty and Gabbriette tied the knot underneath the Hollywood sign just as the sun began to set. Matty previously dated Charli’s friend Taylor

Just two weeks ago, Matty’s superstar ex Taylor tied the knot with Travis Kelce at a lavish wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York.

There were several celebrities, including Graham Norton and Hugh Grant, among the 1000 attendees.

Yet Charli was not one of them, despite previously being a close friend of Taylor’s and performing together.

Their relationship is thought to have broken down after Taylor and Matty split in 2023.

Three months after rocker Matty and Taylor parted ways, he was spotted enjoying  a steamy PDA with Gabbriette in New York City.

Matty and Gabbriette announced their engagement in 2024, after a whirlwind nine-month romance and not long after Taylor and Travis went public with their romance.

A source said that Matty and Taylor ‘started dating these people at the same time; it’s not that unusual’.

Taylor and Charli had known each other for years with Taylor bringing Charli out as a support act on her 2018 reputation tour.

Yet with Charli also a longtime friend of Matty’s, it seems she placed herself in his camp following his split.

Charli and Taylor’s feud came to a head last year after Taylor’s seemingly pointed words about Charli’s ‘coke habit’ in the track which features on Taylor’s new album, The Life Of A Showgirl.

Taylor recently admitted her song, Actually Romantic, is about an ‘adversarial relationship.’

Sharing a strikingly similar title to Charli’s 2018 track Everything Is Romantic, she sings: ‘I heard you call me “Boring Barbie” when the coke’s got you brave.’

Many listeners interpreted it as a pointed jab the singer, who has openly referenced drug use in her own music.

Charli and Taylor’s relationship is thought to have broken down after Taylor and Matty split in June 2023 (pictured in May that year)

Taylor’s lyrics include: ‘High-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face’ – seemingly a reference to Charli’s friendship with Matty.

She also hints that the singer in question is seemingly obsessed with her, adding: ‘But it’s actually sweet / All the time you’ve spent on me / It’s honestly wild.’

Taylor opened up about the song’s lyrics in the album’s accompanying film The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, saying: ‘It’s a love letter to someone who hates you.

‘There can be this moment where it’s unveiled to you, through things that they do that are very overt. And, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve just started to be like, “Oh my God, you did so much with this.” It’s flattering.’

She added: ‘That is, wow, that is very, very sweet of you to think about me this much, even if it’s negative. In my industry, attention is affection, and you’ve given me a whole lot of it.’

Meanwhile, Charli was rumoured to have written a song about Taylor called Sympathy Is A Knife which featured on her hit album Brat.

In the song, Charli sang: ‘Don’t know if I’m spiralling/ One voice tells me that they laugh/ George says I’m just paranoid/ Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show/ Fingers crossed behind my back/ I hope they break up real quick.’

Taylor gave further clues about Actually Romantic’s subject in an audio track-by-track breakdown of the new album for Amazon Music, in which she said: ‘It’s a song about realising that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about.

‘And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea.’

During Taylor’s 2018 Reputation stadium tour, Charli opened for the 14-time Grammy Award winner on more than 50 nights.

But the first hint of trouble seemed to brew the following year in 2019, as while speaking to Pitchfork, Charli said: ‘As an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up onstage and waving to 5-year-olds.’

She went on to say following the tour it made her decide to never open for anyone again.

Charli added: ‘I’ve done so much of it, and it really cemented my status as this underdog character, I need to just own my own f***ing s*** finally.’

Following backlash, she later took to her social media to say her comments had been taken out of context, insisting: ‘As I say in the article and have said many times before, I am extremely grateful to Taylor for inviting me to open for her.

‘She’s one of the biggest artists of my generation and the Reputation tour was one of the biggest tours in history.’

She said that, prior to the tour, she had been playing ’18+ club shows’ and performing for ‘all ages’ had been ‘new to me’.

Severe NYC Flooding Sparks Travel Turmoil Ahead of World Cup Final

0

As New York grapples with torrential floods, a looming crisis overshadows the excitement of the World Cup final. The deluge threatens to derail plans for hundreds of soccer enthusiasts who might miss the once-in-a-lifetime match, marking a tumultuous ending to the United States’ experience hosting this tournament.

Anticipation builds as Spain prepares to clash with Argentina in tonight’s highly anticipated World Cup final. The showdown will take place at the iconic MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, a short distance of about five miles from the heart of New York City.

Weather conditions have stolen much of the spotlight throughout the tournament. Both France and England experienced game delays due to Mother Nature’s unpredictable temperament, ranging from intense heatwaves to unexpected lightning warnings.

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over tonight’s grand finale as weather concerns once again challenge the scheduled kick-off. The match, planned for 3 p.m. ET (8 p.m. BST), now faces potential delays due to the adverse conditions.

On the eve of the tournament’s conclusion, New York City found itself underwater, with torrential rains wreaking havoc across the metropolis. Scenes of chaos unfolded as vehicles sat submerged and pedestrians navigated streets turned into waterways, with some trudging through waist-deep floods.

Between two and four inches of rain are said to have fallen, with a tornado warning also issued.

A flood watch covering eastern Bergen County, where MetLife is located, northeastern New Jersey and New York City remained in effect until 2am Sunday.

Although the heaviest rain had moved south and east by late Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service warned that further storms could produce rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour.

The final showstopper between Spain and Argentina will be able to go ahead unaffected – but many fans may miss out.

While the worst of the horrific weather had passed by Sunday morning, leaving blue skies in its wake, the torrential conditions of the previous day left mayhem in its wake.

The dangerous conditions caused further turmoil at the region’s three major airports wreaking havoc for the thousands descending on New York and New Jersey where 80,000 fans are expected to fill MetLife Stadium for Sunday’s final.

Hundreds of flights into the New York area from across the United States were rocked by delays, or worse, cancellations as the downpours compounded travel problems.

The Federal Aviation Administration ordered multiple ground stops at LaGuardia, JFK and Newark, until at least 5pm ET on Saturday due to the thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway was flooded, leaving drivers stranded on the washed-out roadway. Many sought safety on the roofs or bonnets of their vehicles as the water in some areas rose as high as car windows.

An FDNY fire truck was captured wading through the flooding – the water almost reaching its windscreen – to rescue the drivers. Firefighters assisted New Yorkers slowly inch their way along a ledge to dry land.

There had been calls to move the World Cup final and, while conditions are starting to improve, severe thunderstorm warnings remain for parts of New Jersey.

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on social media: ‘Don’t risk your safety in these dangerous conditions. – Exercise caution while traveling.

‘Take public transit whenever possible. Never walk, bike, or drive through floodwaters. No destination is worth risking your safety.’

It is understood, however, that there are hopes there will be no delay to tonight’s proceedings.

The downpours presented a lone benefit with the deluge of rain expected to help clear Canadian wildfire smoke from the air.

An air-quality health advisory remained in effect across New York City until midnight Saturday after fine-particle pollution pushed the Air Quality Index above 100.

Meteorologists interviewed by the Associated Press said the storms should improve air quality from unhealthy to moderate before kickoff.

On Saturday, New York residents received an alert from the National Weather Service, branding conditions ‘a life threatening situation’.

It read: A FLASH FLOOD WARNING is in effect for this area until 3.30pm EDT,’ it read.

‘This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.’

The New York Yankees’ baseball game against the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium was cancelled on Saturday due to the weather, but it is set to be rescheduled for this afternoon.

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart, who has been working as a pundit for BBC throughout the tournament, has been in New York and highlighted the struggles prior to kick-off.

Hart and the likes of Wayne Rooney had been based in Salford until the BBC opted to end their work from home World Cup ahead of England’s semi-final defeat by Argentina.

‘Weather’s absolutely banging here. Shoes are off, trainers are ruined’, Hart said in a video he shared to Instagram. He could be seen walking in heavy rain, drenched.

Argentina’s training session was delayed by 45 minutes on Saturday, while Spain’s flight from Kansas to New York was also delayed.

Effective Strategies for Maintaining Indoor Air Quality During Wildfires

MILWAUKEE – Watching the sun glow an unusual shade of orange through thick layers of smoky air can be unsettling. However, the most significant danger lurking in this dense haze isn’t what meets the eye but what remains nearly invisible to us.

Experts warn that minute airborne particles can trigger a spectrum of health problems, ranging from temporary discomfort to serious chronic conditions.

The pervasive smoke from wildfires can linger over urban areas for extended periods. This was recently observed across many U.S. regions, where smoke drifting down from Canadian wildfires shrouded states in dangerously unhealthy air, affecting millions.

To safeguard your health, officials strongly recommend staying indoors and focusing on maintaining clean air within your home environment.

Here’s how to operate your air conditioning unit safely amidst smoky conditions.

If you have central air conditioning, it should clean the air in your home.

Make sure filters are replaced on schedule and are of the highest level of filtration your system can handle. Filters rated MERV 13 or higher are ideal. Set the air to recirculate and close any vents that pull air from outside if you can. The University of Oregon’s Center for Wildfire Smoke Research and Practice recommends running the system’s fan through the entire smoke event, not just when cooling.

If you buy a portable air filter, look for a HEPA air filter or one that says it traps small particles of pollution. Ensure it does not generate ozone, another harmful air pollutant.

If you can only afford one portable air filter, use it to create a “clean room” in your house where you can spend most of your time.

“The basic message is that something is better than nothing,” said Amy Kalkbrenner, an environmental epidemiologist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The science behind DIY air filters

There’s good evidence that DIY filters made by duct-taping furnace air filters to a box fan work.

They’re simple, relatively affordable and scientists at the Environmental Protection Agency have found they are just as good at removing fine particles of pollution from the air as a small commercial air purifier.

“The good news is they really work,” said Kalkbrenner.

All you need to have to make one is: four 20-by-20-inch (50.8-by-50.8-centimeters) furnace air filters rated MERV 13 or higher, a box fan, cardboard and duct tape. The EPA’s website shows how you can modify the design to only use one or two filters. The fan should blow out, and the arrows on the filters should point in. Make sure everything is taped up air-tight.

Using your window AC and cooling your air safely

Many window air conditioners, mini-split heat exchangers and portable air conditioners don’t have the filters needed to remove fine pollution particles. But heat can also be dangerous.

“When smoke and heat occur together, the impacts on your health are even greater than when they occur by themselves,” said Jess Downey, a researcher at the University of Oregon’s Center for Wildfire Smoke Research and Practice

Downey said the ideal scenario is running the AC unit and using an air purifier or a DIY box fan filter to clean the air. Make sure your AC is well-sealed in your window frame, she added.

Make sure the window units are set to recirculate air. Portable units with a single hose should be used sparingly, according to the University of Oregon wildfire smoke center.

If you don’t have AC, any reprieve from hot, smoky air is important. Head to the library, shopping mall or other space with clean, cool air.

Ways to seal up a home to keep hazardous air out

Whether it’s a towel, some tape, or something else — plug areas where air could enter from outside.

“Being from Chicago, I think you can liken it to trying to keep the cold air out,” said Dr. Khalilah Gates, a lung doctor with Northwestern Medicine. “Any areas in which air can come in, consider sealing up those areas to reduce the amount that’s coming into the home.”

When smoke levels are high, experts recommend avoiding anything that burns — candles, fireplaces, even gas stoves — so plan ahead with some meal prep.

How wildfire smoke affects the body

Exposure to wildfire smoke can lead to shortness of breath, chest tightness, headaches, and a burning sensation in the nose and eyes.

“When you ever start to feel those symptoms and they’re not severe, it’s important to acknowledge, ‘Oh, my body is responding to this. I need to move away from it. I need to move inside,’” Gates said.

If you’re wheezing, can’t catch your breath or are in distress, get to the emergency room immediately, she said.

Nationwide Health Alert: Taylor Farms Expands Lettuce Recall Across 27 States, Sparking Consumer Concern

Taylor Farms has broadened its voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce, originally sent to 27 states, after federal health officials identified a connection between this lettuce and an outbreak of a parasite known to cause “explosive diarrhea.” The produce was sourced from a supplier in central Mexico.

This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) traced a multistate cyclospora outbreak affecting at least 1,600 individuals to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied from a single source in Mexico.

On Friday, the California-based Taylor Farms announced the recall of 25 products that include shredded lettuce and salad mixes from the contaminated lot in central Mexico. The company has halted lettuce purchases from this source and is actively working to remove the impacted products from circulation.

In a statement, Taylor Farms emphasized, “We are actively removing the implicated products. The company has ceased receiving produce from the implicated lot, suspended distribution of the iceberg lettuce from Central Mexico, informed our customers, and continues to collaborate with the FDA, CDC, and state authorities.”

The recalled lettuce was distributed across several states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Taylor Farms advised customers who have purchased the recalled iceberg lettuce not to consume it and to discard it immediately, warning customers that experience any health issues to contact their physician. They are offering full refunds at the location of the lettuce’s purchase.

The recall was in response to a rapidly expanding federal investigation to contain the foodborne illness. Earlier this week, the CDC identified possible exposure from a supplier in Mexico as the source of the outbreak, whose lettuce was then served at Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia

Taylor Farms’ recall covers products sold under eight different brand codes that were shipped as recently as Thursday and carry “best by” dates through Aug. 3.

The CDC has confirmed at least 1,645 cases of cyclospora infections and 141 hospitalizations. Cases have been identified in 34 states, with Michigan reporting the largest number of confirmed illnesses.

There are currently no reported deaths linked to the outbreak.

Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that spreads through food or water that has been contaminated with feces, most commonly when fresh produce is washed with contaminated water.

The infection can cause symptoms such as prolonged gastrointestinal illness, including severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue and loss of appetite.
