US Launches Third Night of Strikes on Iran Amid Trump’s Deal Talks and Hormuz Tariff Announcement

0

For the third night in a row, the United States military launched airstrikes, coinciding with an attack on two tankers in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

This military escalation follows President Donald Trump’s announcement of re-imposing a blockade on Iranian shipping in the Gulf, while committing to keeping the vital waterway open—albeit with a fee involved..

According to the US Central Command, these strikes were initiated as directed by President Trump shortly after he had openly stated on a US radio broadcast that Iran would face a decisive blow, both that night and the following day.

In a subsequent briefing at the White House, Trump confirmed that US forces were targeting Iranian assets in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates’ defense ministry reported that two Emirati oil tankers, the Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, were struck by Iranian cruise missiles while navigating the southern lane of the strait within Omani territorial waters. The attack resulted in the death of one crew member and injured eight others.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said a tanker had been hit by an unknown projectile while travelling 40 nautical miles north-east of Oman’s Qalhat and that all crew were safe.

Reuters could not immediately verify whether the UKMTO report referred to the same incident as the one reported by the UAE’s defence ministry. Iran has not commented on the latest attacks.

“The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran. We are reinstating THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE,” Trump had said earlier on Monday on Truth Social.

“The USA will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT’, but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped.”

Iran’s top joint military command said the US had no role in determining the future of Hormuz and would not be allowed to intervene. Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X that his country was the guardian of the strait and would remain so “forever”, adding in response to Trump’s comments that: “20% is of course too much. We will be fair.”

The UN’s shipping agency pushed back against Trump’s proposal, saying it opposes any fees for straits used in international navigation and stressing that there is no legal basis for introducing mandatory tolls on strait transits.

Trump has previously suggested the US could charge tolls on shipping through the strait, but it has so far not done so and it was unclear if it would follow through on Trump’s declaration this time.

The US Navy-led Joint Maritime Information Center said the blockade would take effect at 8pm GMT on Tuesday (6am Wednesday AEST) and apply to all vessel traffic regardless of flag, covering the entire Iranian coastline including ports and oil terminals.

It said the measure would not impede neutral transit passage through the strait to or from non-Iranian destinations, and that humanitarian shipments would be permitted subject to inspection.

Before the conflict began in February, around a fifth of the world’s oil and gas traffic passed through Hormuz daily, delivering more than 15 million barrels of fuel to global markets worth at least US$1.2 billion ($1.73 billion). If the US were to impose a 20per cent fee, it could generate around US$250 million a day ($361.5 million).

Iran has sought to establish a permanent fee and permit system of its own for vessels using the waterway.

At least 25 killed in latest US strikes

At least 25 people have been killed in Iran since hostilities resumed on Wednesday, according to a tally by the Agence France-Presse news agency based on Iranian announcements.

At least four explosions were heard on Monday east of Bandar Abbas, which sits on the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian state media reported, citing a reporter in the port city’s province.

On Monday, United Nations secretary-general António Guterres expressed “deep concern” at the regional escalation, including attacks by both sides.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had struck US military targets and bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, state media reported.

Air raid alerts sounded in Bahrain, where the military said it shot down a number of Iranian projectiles, while Kuwait’s army said its forces were intercepting “hostile aerial targets”.

Jordan’s army said it had intercepted four Iranian missiles.

Iran insists it only targets US interests in the Gulf, but the spokesman for its military command said any collaboration by Gulf countries with the US would be considered “an act of war”.

The latest exchanges mark an escalation over the past week, throwing into question the interim US-Iran agreement signed last month to reopen the Strait and halt hostilities.

Trump says he thinks a deal is still possible

Despite all signs to the contrary, Trump said that a deal with Iran to end the Middle East war was still possible.

“Yeah, I think a deal is possible. Sure, I do,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “We had a deal with them two days ago and then they said ‘Oh we can’t make that deal. We have to negotiate it further.'”

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said earlier on Monday that the June memorandum of understanding that formed the basis for the negotiations and lifted the US blockade was “in crisis”.

Baqaei said Iran would ignore its obligations under the deal if the US did the same, but added that Iran was continuing talks with mediators from Qatar, Pakistan and Oman to prevent further escalation.

Analyst Bader Al-Saif said the escalating attacks would merely delay a permanent agreement.

“Both sides want to end the impasse on their own terms, and they are increasingly finding it difficult to do so. Hence the return to and increase in the scale of attacks,” said Al-Saif, an associate fellow at Chatham House.

The war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on 28 February has destabilised the Gulf and spread across the region, with Iran attacking US bases in multiple countries.

Yemen’s Houthi movement fired missiles at Saudi Arabia after accusing the kingdom of bombing an airport under its control on Monday, breaking a four-year truce between Riyadh and the Iran-aligned group.

Oil prices jump

Driven by fears of further disruption in the strait, oil prices jumped more than 9 per cent on Monday, with Brent futures posting their biggest single-day dollar gain since 2 April, and highest settlement since 12 June. US crude futures made their largest daily gain since 29 April to settle at their highest since 15 June.

Higher energy prices, particularly gasoline costs, are politically sensitive for Trump before congressional elections in November.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said in a statement on Monday that the only way to restore regular shipping traffic was to end US military interventions in the waterway.

The US, which revoked a licence waiving sanctions on Iranian crude sales last week after earlier attacks on shipping, said its forces were positioned to safeguard freedom of navigation.

US officials said around 20 vessels had been escorted through the strait in the previous 24 hours, although ship-tracking data showed little traffic moving. MarineTraffic said on Monday that vessel activity through the strait declined by about 52per cent over 10 July to 12 compared to the previous week.

Norway’s Triumphant Return: Celebrating a Landmark World Cup Victory

0

Parades often celebrate victors, but sometimes it’s about the journey.

Such was the case for Norway.

Even though Norway faced a 2-1 defeat against England in the World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, they received a warm and enthusiastic welcome upon their return home, celebrating their monumental accomplishment.

As their plane approached its landing, Norwegian players and staff huddled by the windows, witnessing an escort of military jets guiding them back to Oslo for a reception fit for royalty.

Erling Haaland, known for his on-field prowess and off-field humor, emerged from the plane carrying a playful souvenir—a stuffed raccoon he had acquired in Dallas.

Over 100,000 fans flooded the streets of the nation’s capital, packing the palace before stretching far down the main street.

Then, the team stepped out to greet fans with the Royal Guard standing right by.

Members of Norway’s royal household joined tens of thousands of Norway supporters for the “Viking Row” chant, which became famous during the country’s takeover in the United States.

Crown Prince Haakon led the row as he banged a drum the same way Haaland and captain Martin Ødegaard did after Norway’s World Cup wins.

As supporters celebrated the country’s accomplishments, players traveled through Oslo on an open-top bus.

“I don’t think anyone had imagined this,” Ødegaard told Norwegian broadcaster NRK. “The support we have received in the USA and here at home in Norway has been beyond all expectations. It has been absolutely incredible to see.”

Long after dark, Norway players celebrated with beer and waved while the party continued.

In its first World Cup appearance since 1998, Norway reached the quarterfinals with key wins over Ivory Coast and Brazil.

Haaland was the architect of Norway’s dominance, scoring seven goals in his first career World Cup.

Senator Marshall Urges Gulf States to Take Lead Against Iran as US Completes Its Role

0

In a recent appearance on CNN’s “The Source,” Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas raised a call to action concerning the ongoing geopolitical tensions with Iran. He emphasized that while the United States has played a significant role in reducing the threat posed by Iran, it is now incumbent upon the Gulf states to step up. “We’ve done our job. We have defanged Iran, now it’s their turn to go in and finish the job that they need to finish,” Marshall asserted, advocating for the Gulf states to deploy their ground troops if necessary. He stressed, “It should not be American soldiers leading the way.”

Senator Marshall expressed a clear perspective on the timeline of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, indicating that Iran is “decades away from having nuclear weapons.” However, he underscored the ongoing challenge with a comparison to a “whack-a-mole” scenario, where constant vigilance is required. Here, he pressed the Gulf Coast countries to fulfill their part in this international issue. “We have defanged Iran, now it’s their turn to go in and finish the job that they need to finish,” he reiterated, pointing out the shared responsibility in restraining Iran’s potential threat.

Earlier in the discussion, Marshall mentioned that, given the current trajectory, Iran might struggle to develop nuclear capabilities within the next decade. Despite this, reports suggest that Iran is making efforts to rebuild its nuclear program, which reinforces the urgency of coordinated regional action.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Welcome Furry Friend on Romantic Getaway

0

The enigmatic tale surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s supposed new furry friend has finally reached a conclusion. Thanks to the Daily Mail, fresh evidence now confirms the couple’s latest addition to their family.

The beloved pair are indeed the proud owners of a charming, fluffy white Samoyed. The canine companion was recently spotted relishing a VIP travel experience to Florida, no less.

Displaying an air of ease and contentment, the pampered pooch was seen disembarking from Swift’s private jet alongside Kelce upon their arrival at the President Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach on Sunday.

Clearly, this dog is living life in the lap of luxury.

The initial reveal of the pet’s existence was courtesy of exclusive footage aired by the Daily Mail, featuring images from inside the couple’s wedding. The footage showcased the duo delightfully posing with their new furry addition, further fueling fans’ excitement.

Now, the pooch appears to be accompanying his owners on their honeymoon.

Swift was not pictured, but her new husband was seen emerging from the jet before tending to his belongings, which had been placed on the ground.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end wore a white top and a red cap, along with slouchy cream slacks that draped over his colorful Nikes.

A source told the Daily Mail that ‘it seems that Travis made it happen’ regarding the dog and that the name is rumored to be a ‘character they both like or a sports figure.’

Clues about the pooch’s existence had been dropped prior to the wedding.

In a 2025 episode of the Fitz & Whit podcast, Kelce’s brother Jason, 38, told hosts Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Whitworth how much Swift has influenced Kelce’s interior design choices, sharing a story that inadvertently revealed the truth.

He said Kelce had gone all in on a pair of designer couches that he described as ‘green velvet, over-the-top couches.’

He pushed his brother on the price tag: ‘I’m not gonna say the dollar amount – but I’m like, dude, what are these couches?’

Kelce defended the purchase: ‘It’s an investment. It’s art, Jason.’ But when Jason came back to Kelce’s house around six months later, one of the couches had been pushed to the wall.

‘He just got a puppy,’ Jason told the podcast. ‘The puppy had chewed a hole in the back of it.’

Whitworth – himself a friend and former teammate of Kelce’s – couldn’t resist adding: ‘Investment gone! Investment’s over.’

Still, clues about the pup’s identity have been mounting for months.

In March, a white Samoyed was spotted at Westchester County Airport hopping out of Swift’s silver Chevy Suburban surrounded by her security detail.

Just months earlier, however, Swift had appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and denied having a dog in her life.

Asked about rumors she had been spotted walking a mystery dog, she shot it down: ‘I have never walked a dog in Florida or maybe ever,’ she told the late-night host.

The dog is now Swift’s fourth pet.

She famously has three cats – Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson and Benjamin Button.

The cats have appeared in her music videos and graced magazine covers, becoming celebrities in their own right.

After months of teases, rumors and conflicting reports, the couple finally married in front of 1,000 of their closest friends – and the world’s biggest stars – in a colossal blowout at Madison Square Garden on July 3. Both the bride and groom were dressed in Christian Dior, her publicist announced.

There were no bridesmaids, instead, Swift’s brother Austin acted as her ‘man of honor’, and Jason was the best man.

The Chiefs’ tight end tried to meet Swift that evening, bringing along a friendship bracelet that contained his phone number. However, his attempt at handing her the jewelry was unsuccessful.

At the same time, Swift was at her own professional peak, traveling the world for her sold-out stadium shows, with Kelce flying in to support her.

Despite their hectic schedules and intense public interest in their romance, Kelce claimed that he felt calmed by both his girlfriend’s presence and down-to-earth nature.

‘Whenever I’m with her, it feels like we’re just regular people… When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love,’ he told GQ.

Netflix Confirms Exciting Developments for ‘Virgin River’ Fans

Mel looking at two people in 'Virgin River' Season 7

TV

“Fans of Virgin River will keep getting what they crave as long as they want it,” recently stated a Netflix executive.

Netflix is placing its faith in the beloved series Virgin River.

Based on Robyn Carr’s popular book series, this charming small-town romance holds the title of Netflix’s longest-running original show. It debuted in 2019, and its seventh season was released in March 2026.

‘Virgin River’ fans will ‘continue to get what they want,’ Netflix exec says

A seven-season run is impressive for any show, but it’s particularly notable at Netflix, which has developed a reputation to swiftly canceling shows that don’t meet its expectations. In the past year, the company has pulled the plug on several high-profile series, including the female-focused western The Abandons with Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey and the Duffer Brothers-produced sci-fi miniseries The Boroughs. Meanwhile, fan-favorite shows like The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer are set to wrap up with their upcoming seasons.

All that might give fans of Virgin River cause to worry that their show could be next on the chopping blocks. But in a recent interview with Deadline, Netflix’s Head of UCAN Scripted Series Jinny Howe reassured viewers about the series’ future.

“All I’m going to say is the fans of [Virgin River] are going to continue to get what they want as long as they want, and we are being very thoughtful about how to make sure we are both serving but protecting the fandom,” Howe said.

Netflix renewed Virgin River for season 8 last summer, months ahead of the season 7 premiere. Production on the eighth season began in Vancouver in April.

What to expect from ‘Virgin River’ Season 8

In an interview with Tudum, series star Alexandra Breckenridge said that she was excited to explore a different facet of Mel’s character in the new episodes.

“I am excited to see Mel as a mother,” she said. “I think we’ve anticipated that moment for far too long. It should be sweet. I’m sure it’ll be harder than she thinks it’s going to be.”

In season 7, Mel and Jack (Martin Henderson) adopted a baby from a young after her original adoption plans fell through. The season ended with the baby’s birth, but the infant had to immediately be rushed to a hospital for surgery to repair a heart defect.

Season 8 will follow Mel and Jack as they adjust to being first-time parents to a child with serious medical needs. Their storyline will focus on “the challenges that raising a child with special physical needs puts on their marriage and how challenging it is to be new parents, much less new parents in such a high-stakes situation,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith said.

Virgin River is streaming on Netflix.

Mark Lynch Launches U.S. Senate Bid in Special Primary Election

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Entrepreneur Mark Lynch took to social media to reveal his intention to run for the U.S. Senate in a special primary prompted by the passing of Lindsey Graham.

“My dedication remains steadfast to realizing what we have been divinely inspired to pursue since February 2025,” Lynch stated, emphasizing his goal to restore South Carolina’s U.S. Senate seat to genuine Conservative leadership for the Republican Party. He extended heartfelt gratitude to his supporters for their invaluable contributions, assuring them their sacrifices will always be remembered.

Lynch previously challenged Graham in pursuit of the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat during the 2026 primaries.

Per South Carolina legislation, a seven-day period to file for a special primary election is scheduled to commence on the second Tuesday after the candidate’s demise or by July 21, as reported by AP.

The subsequent special primary election is arranged for the second Tuesday following the conclusion of this filing interval, specifically on August 11. Should there be a requirement for a runoff, it would take place two weeks later on August 25, according to AP reports.

Central Illinois Residents Receive Support from Disaster Loan Outreach Centers Following Severe Storms

In a concerted effort to bolster recovery after June’s severe weather, Illinois officials have joined forces with the U.S. Small Business Administration. Together, they are amplifying outreach regarding Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs), set up specifically to assist those affected residents in dire need.

These centers are especially crucial for areas such as Charleston and Effingham County, which found themselves in states of emergency after devastating tornadoes struck on June 17. However, the scope of aid doesn’t end at county lines; surrounding areas, including Clark, Clay, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Fayette, Jasper, Moultrie, and Shelby Counties have also been granted eligibility to receive support.

In Coles County, locals seeking assistance can head to the Coles County Center for Human Services, situated at 825 18th Street in Charleston. Meanwhile, Effingham’s stakeholders can find their DLOC at the Effingham School District Building, located at 2803 S. Banker St. Each of these centers is operational from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., extending their services on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At the heart of their mission, these centers aim to provide valuable, in-person support for those affected who are looking to secure low-interest disaster loans for damages the storm wrought, which insurance does not cover. The centers welcome walk-ins, ensuring accessible aid for anyone in need of their services.

You can find an online application here. Applicants can also call the Small Business Administration at (800)-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Anyone who is deaf, hard of hearing, or has a speech disability can dial 7-1-1 for help.

Homeowners can get up to $500,000 in low-interest SBA disaster loans to fix or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Officials added that homeowners or renters can also get up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property. Businesses and not-for-profits can borrow up to $2 million. Learn more here.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Office of Homeland Security (IEMA OHS), U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and local municipalities are working together to promote the centers.

The deadline to submit for a disaster loan applications for physical property damage is Sept. 8, 2026, and the deadline to submit applications for economic injury is April 12, 2027. A full list of centers — along with their locations — can be found here.

FBI Announces $15K Reward for Information Following Tragic Discovery of Newborn at Electric Forest Festival

The FBI has announced a $15,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest related to the tragic death of a newborn, whose body was discovered at a popular Michigan music festival.

This reward is a development following the grim discovery made on June 28, at the Electric Forest Festival—a vibrant gathering known for its music and atmosphere. The infant’s body was located in a porta-potty within the festival’s camping grounds, prompting a state police investigation.

The heartbreaking scene was unveiled by an employee from a restroom vending company while attending to maintenance tasks. The newborn was identified as a neonate, indicating the baby was less than 28 days old.

Following preliminary autopsy results, law enforcement confirmed that the child was born alive and viable, shedding more light on the tragic circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.

In their ongoing investigation, police have spoken to a woman in Muskegon who attended the festival and is believed to hold crucial insight into the case. Authorities remain hopeful that the reward will incentivize individuals with relevant information to come forward, enhancing their pursuit of justice.

The woman was “fully cooperative” and has since been eliminated as a suspect in the case.

The FBI’s Detroit Field Office separately announced on Monday it was assisting the Michigan State Police with the investigation and would offer the $15,000 reward for the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or people responsible for the newborn’s death.

Mysterious Death of Chicago Business Owner in ICE Detention Sparks Family’s Quest for Justice

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — For numerous families in Chicago, “North Lake” carries a weighty significance that can feel foreboding.

Situated in the rural expanse of Baldwin, Michigan, the North Lake Correctional Facility has become a pivotal location for many. In the past year, this center has housed hundreds of individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), standing as one of the Midwest’s most sizable detention facilities.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

While some detainees have faced deportation or returned to Chicago through legal perseverance, one man’s story took a tragic turn he will never return from.

Nenko Gantchev, a 56-year-old detainee, passed away on December 15, 2025, at the North Lake facility. His death adds to a growing list of fatalities in ICE detention centers nationwide, where there are heightened worries about the quality of conditions and medical care provided to detainees.

This troubling trend has prompted lawmakers to question the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) about the increasing number of deaths. In response, the DHS Inspector General’s office has declared an examination into the conditions prevailing within these detention centers.

The I-Team found at least 45 people have died in ICE detention centers since the start of President Donald Trump’s second administration, according to ICE records.

DHS officials have been adamant there is no spike in deaths, and that while people are housed by ICE, they receive “the best healthcare they have received

Rare Worm Infection Mistaken for Eye Stye Marks U.S. First

0

A man in the United States was taken aback when he discovered that what he thought was a minor bump on his eyelid was actually due to a rare parasite, marking its first-known instance in the country.

Most Americans have encountered a stubborn stye on their eyelids, typically a common condition that resolves itself within a week with the aid of warm compresses.

When such bumps persist, medical professionals often suspect a cyst and generally advise patients to wait about a month before draining it during a medical appointment.

However, in an unprecedented case, researchers discovered that a particular eyelid bump was the result of a mosquito-transmitted worm that had infested the skin, an infection not previously recorded in the United States.

According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the unnamed man sought medical attention in Southern California after enduring the bump on his lower left eyelid for a prolonged period of five months.

It measured 0.3 inches (eight millimeters) across and had leaked fluid when it first appeared, before settling. After scans, doctors removed it during surgery.

Initially, they suspected it was a cyst – medically termed a chalazion. However, after it was removed and analyzed under a microscope, they found it was crawling with worms.

The man, 74, had no idea he had the worms, but reported that the bump, on his lower left eyelid, had appeared after he was bitten by an unidentified insect.

He said he also suffered from pain and swelling when the bite happened, but that this subsided shortly after.

The report stated the worm was a nematode, or long parasitic roundworm, called Dirofilaria repens, which is typically found infesting the skin of dogs and cats. In rare cases, it can also infect humans. Generally, it is found in the skin, but it has also been detected in the eye.

Pets are infected with the roundworm via mosquito bites, where the worm migrates from the skin into the bloodstream where it reproduces. Young worms are then taken up by mosquitoes, which transfer them to new hosts.

In rare cases, the parasite can also infect humans via mosquito bites.

The parasite is endemic in Europe, but has not previously been recorded infecting people who have not left the US.

In the latest case, the patient reported no recent travel, suggesting that they were infected in southern California.

Most patients with the parasite have no symptoms, the CDC says. Warning signs include swelling or inflammation in the skin and a bump that does not resolve on its own.

In serious cases, patients may also cough up blood, and suffer from chest pain, fever and breathing problems.

Doctors can easily treat the infection using surgery to remove the bump or anti-roundworm drugs. In cases where it infects the eye, they warn that it can lead to vision loss.

The above shows the lifecycle of Dirofilariasis roundworms

Dr Usiwoma Abugo, an ophthalmologist and clinical spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, said: ‘The recent finding of a nematode in a patient’s eyelid is concerning, but it is important to note that it is a new and uncommon finding.

‘The public should be mindful of this if they have a bump that is typically common that does not resolve after months of routine intervention.’

She added: ‘This patient may also have a significant history of being bitten prior to the formation of the bump.

‘The inflammation is not always limited to the eyelid, it can extend to other structures around or on the eye itself.

‘If this is you, be sure to reach out to your ophthalmologist to evaluate the inflammation more closely.’

The researchers noted in the paper that the increasing mosquito population in the state may have raised the risk of an infection.

The patient did not suffer any vision loss and recovered six months after his surgery.

Previous surveys have not detected the roundworm in the US, but it has been detected in South America in recent years.

In the US, the mosquito-borne worm infections have been recorded in humans in every state, but these have all been caused by a different species.

In the US, Dirofilaria immitis, which can infect humans, causes heartworms in dogs, and Dirofilaria tenuis can infect raccoons.

Experts say that infections with the worm can be avoided primarily by preventing mosquito bites and leaving as little skin exposed as possible.

Anyone who suspects an infection with the worm is urged to contact their health provider.
