Inside the Fierce Battle to Succeed Lindsey Graham as Fox News Favorite: A White House Strategy to Avert Nancy Mace Turmoil

0

The competition to succeed the late Lindsey Graham, who passed away at 71, has turned fierce following his abrupt passing.

Senator Graham, a veteran lawmaker and a notable supporter of Donald Trump, died unexpectedly on Saturday night due to unforeseen heart issues.

His death has triggered an intense power struggle for his Senate seat, drawing comments from the President himself.

On Monday, Trump expressed his support via Truth Social, advocating for Graham’s sister to take her brother’s place, and she was appointed as the interim representative on Thursday afternoon.

Expressing his views on social media, the President stated, ‘I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, the appointment of Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina.’

‘This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!’

South Carolina is likely to have two replacements for Graham in the next six months – one appointed by the governor to serve out the months remaining in his term and another election to permanently fill the position for the next six years.

A top Fox News host has already taken his name out of the running for the role, but others – including embattled MAGA firebrand Congresswoman Nancy Mace – are considering bids for the position.

But White House insiders tell the Daily Mail that Mace’s chances are slim after her weak fifth-place finish in the state’s gubernatorial primary last month.

Senior officials are opposed to Mace succeeding Graham and would raise money against her should she defy them, according to a Trump source.

The insider said plainly: ‘She would be a total disaster.’

Former congressman Trey Gowdy, who now hosts Sunday Night in America on Fox News, told the Daily Mail through a spokesman that he has not had any conversations about the open Senate seat and does not have any interest in it.

Gowdy represented South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District from 2011 to 2019, and held chairmanships of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the House Select Committee on Benghazi during his tenure. He was also a prominent member of the House Judiciary Committee.

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina floated Gowdy, Graham’s sister Darline Graham Nordone and former Senator Jim DeMint as three people who he could see fill the seat on an interim basis during an interview on CBS Monday morning.

‘I will say I hope that the governor will put a placeholder and let the voters decide. So I think in the next several hours or next day or so we will figure out who that person is,’ Scott told CBS host Gayle King on Monday.

McMaster followed Trump’s suggestion and tapped Nordone, making his official announcement on Tuesday afternoon in Columbia.

In a post on X made after Trump’s nod, Scott shared that he came to the conclusion ‘after speaking with Darline, there is no one better who understands Lindsey’s love for family, our state, and our country.’

Scott had also mentioned Gowdy as a potential pick in a separate interview with Fox News, and Politico additionally reported that he ‘made a round of calls supporting Gowdy,’ while adding that McMaster is likely to go in a different direction.

The field of candidates likely to run in the August 11 special primary includes South Carolina lieutenant governor Pamela Evette, who came in second to Wilson in the gubernatorial primary runoff last month.

A longtime Evette adviser told the Daily Mail that she is still deciding whether or not to enter the race, but confirmed that she has fielded calls from both in-state and national leaders who would like to see her continue to serve the state of South Carolina in government.

Two South Carolina members of Congress who lost in the primary, Mace and Ralph Norman, have also indicated their interest in running for the full term.

A spokesman for Mace’s campaign told the Daily Mail that ‘Lindsey Graham was a mentor to Nancy Mace, and one of the funniest, quickest people she ever served alongside. Anyone who knew him knew he loved a good line, and told more of them than anybody in Washington.’

On Sunday, Mace posted a clip of the character Michael Corleone in The Godfather: Part III, captioned with the quote ‘Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in…’. The idea of Mace running for office again was not well-received by conservatives.

Responding to the criticism, her spokesman added, ‘When she posted that quote, it wasn’t a campaign wink. It was said with affection, from someone who knew him well enough to know he’d have laughed first and loudest.’

In a three-week primary sprint, Evette would bring significant statewide name ID and a projected floor of 30 percent support, which could prove critical to victory on such a short timeline.

The vacancy for South Carolina’s Senate seat was created by Graham’s unexpected death, which was announced just after 2am Eastern time Sunday morning.

Per a statement issued by his office just before 5pm that day, ‘aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease,’ was the cause of death.

‘The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized, and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death,’ Graham’s spokesman added.

A 911 call for ‘cardiac arrest’ was placed from Graham’s residence around 8.30pm on Saturday evening.

World Cup Quarter-Finals: Messi and Mbappe Headline Star-Studded Lineup, But Which Unexpected England Player Joins Bellingham?

0

With the World Cup nearing its dramatic conclusion, the quarter-finals delivered some captivating moments.

Over the past month, fans have been treated to an array of exciting events, from spectacular goals and nail-biting matches to a cascade of red cards, all contributing to the excitement of the U.S.-hosted tournament.

As we gear up for the semi-finals and the competition heats up, let’s highlight the top performers from the quarter-finals based on SofaScore’s insights.

GK: Thibaut Courtois (Belgium) – 8.1

The Real Madrid goalkeeper, who consistently demonstrated exceptional skill by making pivotal saves for Belgium, had to leave the field after sustaining an injury in the 71st minute.

Thibaut Courtois was in tears after his World Cup was ended by injury and defeat by Spain

Thibaut Courtois was visibly emotional as his World Cup journey came to an abrupt end due to injury and a loss against Spain.

The 34-year-old was in tears as he came off the pitch in what could very well be his last World Cup appearance.

To rub salt in the wound, his replacement, Senne Lammens, couldn’t stop the opposing side from scoring, leaving many to wonder whether Courtois’ absence was the deciding factor in the loss.

RB: Julian Ryerson (Norway) – 7.1

Norway suffered a double setback in the second half of their quarter-final, with Ryerson forced off due to injury shortly after seeing a promising attacking moment ruled out by VAR.

Although Ryerson’s run ended in tears, he was a force to be reckoned with, boasting a 92% pass accuracy and four clearances and tackles, proving to be a significant obstacle for England’s offensive campaign.

He had a good impact on the attack, too, with a cool three crosses putting pressure on the Three Lions’ defence.

Ryerson’s club, Borussia Dortmund, will be crossing their fingers that the injury that forced their player off won’t keep him out for long.

CB: Dayot Upamecano (France) – 7.2

France’s march into yet another World Cup semi-final was built on far more than Mbappe and Dembele, as Dayot Upamecano’s performance proved.

Upamecano produced a commanding defensive display that allowed Didier Deschamps’ side to take complete control against Morocco. The centre-back set the tone long before France found their breakthrough.

Strong in tackles and dominant in the air, Upamecano snuffed out Moroccan attacks before they could gather momentum and repeatedly disrupted dangerous advances.

Each interception seemed to sap a little more belief from a Moroccan side searching for another famous upset in their solid World Cup campaign.

While France’s lineup boasts a star-studded attack of big names that grab the headlines, their route to the last four has been underpinned by a defence that has given opponents next to no wriggle room.

CB: Lisandro Martinez (Argentina) – 7.4

Lisandro Martinez underlined why Lionel Scaloni trusts him on the big stage

Lisandro Martinez responded with a steady hand (or foot) to the pressure cooker created by Switzerland in Kansas City.

After making his mark early in the round-of-32 against Cape Verde, the Manchester United centre-back delivered another display that underlined why Lionel Scaloni trusts him on the big stage.

‘The butcher’ was at the heart of Argentina’s resistance throughout 120 long minutes. Even with Argentina chasing a winner before the 90-minute mark, the defender almost became an unlikely hero when his goal-bound effort from a corner was blocked.

The Argentine side found their rhythm in extra time, breaking through the Swiss defence. While Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez handled things on the other end, Lisandro ensured there would be no room for penalties, booking a semi-final with England.

LB: Djed Spence (England) – 7.8

Djed Spence wreaked havoc against Norway during the nerve-shredding extra time

Djed Spence wreaked havoc against Norway during the nerve-shredding extra time

After a rocky start to the knockouts with a patchy performance against DR Congo and spending only 16 minutes on the pitch at the Azteca, Djed Spence has found his groove. Just in time, too.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender’s appearance on the team of the week is made more impressive by the fact that he only came off the bench on 85 minutes, ultimately playing for a total of 34 minutes in this match.

He wreaked havoc against Norway during the nerve-shredding extra time and facilitated two goal opportunities, contributed two tackles, and an interception during his short-but-sweet stint in the quarter-final. Welcome to the team, Djed.

CDM: Rodri (Spain) – 7.6

Rodri dictated the rhythm of the match as Spain proved too much for Belgium in Los Angeles

Rodri dictated the rhythm of the match as Spain proved too much for Belgium in Los Angeles

Rodri’s control of the midfield was the defining factor in Spain’s quarter-final victory over Belgium as he dictated the rhythm of the match, ensuring Luis de la Fuente’s side were always one step ahead.

The Spaniard played a crucial role in the build-up to Spain’s opening goal, providing the platform from which they could unlock the Belgian defence.

His influence has not come through direct goal contributions, but rather a 94% pass accuracy and one commanding display after another. Rodri laid the foundation for the first goal and provided consistency in the midfield throughout.

His place in Sofascore’s team of the week clearly shows that controlling a World Cup match from the midfield can be just as valuable as deciding one in the net.

RM: Ousmane Dembele (France) – 9.0

Ousmane Dembele secured France's win over Morocco by doubling the team's lead

Ousmane Dembele secured France’s win over Morocco by doubling the team’s lead

France owed their second goal of the quarter-final to Dembele, who is nipping at Messi’s heels this week at only 0.1 points behind him by Sofascore’s count.

Dembele secured France’s win over Morocco by doubling the team’s lead in the match and showing (in case anyone didn’t already know) the dominance of the French attacking players.

The PSG player has proved himself to be up there with the best, winning the Ballon d’Or in 2025 after a sensational season with the French club.

He is a force to be reckoned with, and will no doubt bring his quality contributions into the semi-final against Spain.

CAM: Jude Bellingham (England) – 8.4

Jude Bellingham's brace against Norway took his tournamet tally up to six goals in total

Jude Bellingham’s brace against Norway took his tournamet tally up to six goals in total

Sick of hearing ‘Hey Jude’ yet?

If you are, too bad. Bellingham doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. The tense matchup between England and Norway ended in a 2-1 victory, with Bellingham scoring the double for the second match in a row.

The quarter-final was set to be a battle of the strikers, with hopes riding on Kane and Haaland’s shoulders, but Bellingham was the one who prevailed in the stifling Miami heat, earning his serenade that was heard in pubs across the nation.

We can credit England’s No 10 for sparing us from the tension of a penalty shootout, as his second goal came in extra-time to pull the team ahead of Norway and secure a spot in the semi-final against Argentina.

That brings him up to six goals total in the tournament so far, level with Harry Kane. Get your Beatles playlist ready for Wednesday.

LM: Andreas Schjelderup (Norway) – 8.1

While all eyes were on Erling Haaland against England, Andreas Schjelderup turned the table

While all eyes were on Erling Haaland against England, Andreas Schjelderup turned the table

While all eyes were on Erling Haaland to dash England’s dreams, Andreas Schjelderup turned the tables to score his first international goal.

The 22-year-old was responsible for a lot of English stress on Saturday night, to his credit. His goal in the 36th minute gave Norway an early lead, and until Jude Bellingham’s equaliser on the stroke of half time, England fans were holding their breath.

The Benfica midfielder came out of nowhere to put Norway ahead, and his goal was the only ball the Vikings managed to get past Pickford during the match.

Despite the eventual loss, Schjelderup can celebrate his first international goal after 17 appearances and being part of Norway’s first World Cup squad since 1998. Not a bad result, all things considered.

CF: Lionel Messi (Argentina) – 9.1

Lionel Messi continues to make the extraordinary look routine and provided another assist

Lionel Messi continues to make the extraordinary look routine and provided another assist

The man who needs no introduction – but we’ll give him one anyway.

At 39 years old, playing in a remarkable sixth World Cup, Lionel Messi continues to make the extraordinary look routine. Four years on from finally lifting football’s biggest prize, Argentina’s captain is once again leading the reigning champions towards the finish line.

Messi was at the heart of everything against Switzerland. His corner kick enabled Alexis Mac Allister to open the scoring after just ten minutes, taking his tally to 10 assists at World Cups.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner now stands alone as Sofascore’s highest-rated player of the tournament so far, and is the only man to have been named in the Team of the Week in each of the knockout rounds.

Retirement still feels a long way off, particularly based on this recent display. He looks as influential as ever – and England will know better than anyone that stopping him on Wednesday could mean the difference between reaching the World Cup final under the lights in New York or watching Argentina do it again.

CF: Kylian Mbappe (France) – 7.7

Kylian Mbappe went level with Messi at the top of the Golden Boot race, with eight goals so far

Kylian Mbappe went level with Messi at the top of the Golden Boot race, with eight goals so far

Mbappe joins team-mate Dembele in the team of the week, having played a match that saw him level with Messi at the top of the Golden Boot race, with eight goals so far in the tournament.

Despite missing a penalty in the first half of the quarter-final match up against Morocco, Mbappe secured a goal at minute 60, bringing his World Cup career total up to 20.

Roy Keane, speaking on ITV, summarised Mbappe’s performance on the pitch in a nutshell, saying: ‘What these great players do is they dictate. When they do get too close, he’ll do a trick and the type of goals he is getting this tournament – players are frightened to death.’

We’ll have to see if the Spanish can be brave in the semi-finals and keep Mbappe from continuing his streak on Tuesday when he plays in Dallas.

Trump Initiates Third Series of Targeted Actions Against Iran

0

The United States stepped up its military actions against Iran by announcing a new round of strikes on Monday. This development came shortly after President Donald Trump declared that the U.S. is reinstating a blockade on Iran within the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz.

‘We’re taking out all of their capability for anything having to do with the Strait, the Hormuz Strait,’ Trump told CBS News Monday evening.

This aggressive military approach reflects a broader strategy articulated by President Trump, who suggested, “And I think in the end we will end up just controlling the whole thing.”

As tensions escalate, this marks the third consecutive day of American strikes targeting Tehran, totaling five within just a week. The consistent military activity signals a firm stance from the U.S. government in addressing perceived threats.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed in a statement, “At 4:45 p.m. ET today, U.S. Central Command began launching the third consecutive night of strikes against Iran, at the Commander in Chief’s direction.”

CENTCOM elaborated that these efforts aim to “continue imposing a heavy cost on Iranian forces and degrade their ability to attack innocent civilians and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.” The focus remains on safeguarding international maritime routes and ensuring regional stability.

Iran has insisted it controls the critical waterway, as another exchange of fire threatened a return to all-out war.

The US had until now said the strait should remain open to all without tolls, as it was before the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28.

Any attempt by the US or Iran to charge fees would violate global norms on freedom of navigation and raise tensions, likely causing further economic disruption far beyond the region.

The new round of attacks followed Trump telling conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, ‘We’re going to hit them very hard tonight and we’re going to hit them hard tomorrow — and there’s not a damn thing they can do about it.’

‘They have nothing,’ Trump added. ‘They have nothing going, other than they have big mouths.’

The President also claimed the US would be paid a 20 percent tariff for securing safe passage for commercial vessels through the Persian Gulf. The details of Trump’s demand were not immediately clear.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that the US ‘will be, from this point forward, known as ‘The Guardian of the Hormuz Strait.”

‘The process and formation will begin immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!’

The blockade will not take effect immediately: shipowners must be given 24 hours’ notice under maritime law.

Oil prices spiked by 5 percent, with Brent crude, the global benchmark, hitting $79.93 – its highest price since June 19.

Saudi Arabia launched strikes on Iran’s Houthi proxy terror group in Yemen, opening a new front in the war after Iran launched strikes against five US allies in the region.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels say Saudi warplanes bombarded Sanaa International Airport in Yemen. The group’s spokesman declared an ‘end to the de-escalation phase’ and warned that the ‘aggression will not go unanswered or unpunished.’

The attack reportedly came as an Iranian aircraft attempted to land at the airport. Evacuation orders have been issued for the airport and surrounding areas.

A Saudi-led military alliance based in Yemen’s south for a decade has been fighting the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels based in the north.

Tehran says the fallout has already reached the negotiating table, with its foreign ministry claiming Trump’s memorandum of understanding with Iran has entered a ‘crisis phase.’

Asked about the escalating strikes across the region, Trump told Fox News: ‘We’re taking over the strait.’

The Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf chokepoint carrying about a fifth of the world’s oil, has been a central flashpoint since the war began in February, sending markets spiraling with every escalation.

The truce collapsed last week when Iran struck three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and the US retaliated with two rounds of strikes.

Trump pronounced the deal dead from the NATO summit in Ankara: ‘There’s something wrong with them. They’re cuckoo. As far as I’m concerned, it’s over.’

US strikes continued this weekend after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth vowed revenge for the Iranian strike and said: ‘Iran made a poor choice. Now they pay.’

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared the strait closed until further notice after the attack, according to a statement cited by CNN.

Iran targeted various Middle Eastern countries that host US military bases, claiming responsibility for strikes in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar.

Some of the targets attacked by US forces included missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks and coastal surveillance locations, US Central Command said.

A spokesman added that President Trump directed the attacks ‘to degrade Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels freely transiting the strait.’

Iran had said the strait was being shut down ‘given the precariousness that was caused by this unlawful interference by outside parties.’

The regime added that the waterway’s closure would be ‘until further notice and until regional interference by the US ceases’ and that ‘no vessel or naval craft will be allowed to pass.’

Iran said on Saturday it struck US facilities at Jordan’s Prince Hassan Air Base, claiming it destroyed a command center and drone hangars.

Washington denied the regime’s claim, with a US official stating no Americans were hurt and no serious damage was done.

Jordan said it shot down four missiles, and the three that landed caused only minor damage.

Brandy Addresses Body Shaming with Impactful Message: ‘Choose Kindness

Brandy urged her followers to treat each other with more kindness in a powerful message about embracing body positivity.

“I’ve come to see that forming an opinion about someone’s looks takes only seconds, while understanding their life journey takes a lifetime,” the Cinderella actress, 47, shared on Instagram on Saturday, July 11. “Let’s aim to be gentler with one another—not because everyone is easily hurt, but because everyone carries unseen stories.”

Her heartfelt message opened with a contemplation of what “beauty” truly signifies in today’s social media-driven era.

“It’s possible we’ve been searching for it in the wrong places—in youth, flawlessness, approval, in bodies and faces that never change,” she observed. “Yet life isn’t meant to leave us untouched: it shapes us, humbles us, and refines us. Each phase of life leaves its mark, and perhaps true beauty lies in these changes, in becoming who we are meant to be.”

Florence Pugh Body Positive Celebs

The words and digital actions of these Hollywood stars demonstrate that body positivity is now firmly entrenched in mainstream culture. Prominent advocates have harnessed social media platforms to deliver messages of self-acceptance to their audiences. Mindy Kaling notably caught attention when she shared multiple photos of herself donning various two-piece outfits.

The “Boy Is Mine” singer — who shares daughter Sy’rai, 24, with ex Robert “Big Bert” Smith — advised fans that “the world will always be tempted to measure people by what is visible.”

“But love has never looked only at the surface. Love sees the whole person,” she wrote. “I’ve stopped trying to earn my reflection. I’ve stopped asking the mirror to tell me who I am. I know who I am. And that knowing has given me a freedom no opinion could ever take away.”

Brandy wrapped up her post by expressing hope that her thoughtful words would leave an impression on potential body-shamers.

“Before you speak about someone’s body, before you speak about someone’s face, before you decide who they are by what you see, remember, you are looking at someone’s child. Someone’s friend. Someone’s dream. Someone’s life. A soul,” she concluded. “And souls have always been more beautiful than surfaces.”

Brandy also shared a carousel of stunning photos of her wearing an entirely gold ensemble, including a netted coverup and hoop earrings.

Her post came several months after Brandy abruptly ended a performance in Chicago on October 18, 2025, during her coheadlining The Boy Is Mine Tour with fellow singer Monica. She later spoke out to assure fans that she was feeling better before returning to the stage the following night.

“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint,” she explained via Instagram. “Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”

The pop star went on, “I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.”

In March, Brandy celebrated a much happier occasion when she was honored by comedian Issa Rae and producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds while receiving a prestigious star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Airline Crew Demands Passenger Change Controversial T-Shirt Before Boarding

0

Meanwhile, on a United Airlines flight from Atlanta to Newark Liberty International Airport, a New Jersey man, Sam Saadeh, found himself at the center of a different controversy. Saadeh was wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the message, “Bombing kids is not self defense,” when he was approached by a United supervisor. The airline worker informed him that the flight attendant found the shirt’s message offensive, according to a report by CBS New York.

Saadeh recounted feeling bewildered during the encounter, noting, “He was like, ‘Hey, the flight attendant finds your shirt offensive.'” The situation escalated when Saadeh was faced with an ultimatum from the airline personnel: either change the shirt or be barred from the flight. This led to a moment of perplexity for Saadeh, who wondered why his anti-war sentiment was deemed inappropriate attire for flying.

Saadeh told the outlet he was “very confused” when he was pulled aside.

“He was like, ‘Hey, the flight attendant finds your shirt offensive,'” Saadeh recalled. “I was like, ‘Why?’ He goes, ‘Here are the choices. Either you change your shirt or you can’t get on this flight.'”

According to CBS New York, Saadeh said he ultimately changed shirts because he wanted to make it home but described the interaction as humiliating and said airline personnel were unable to explain why the message violated company policy.

United Airlines confirmed to News Media that Saadeh ultimately traveled on the flight after changing his shirt.

“This customer flew as scheduled after changing his shirt,” a United Media Relations spokesperson told News Media. “That’s all we’ll have to share.”

United’s Contract of Carriage states the airline may refuse transportation to passengers who are “not properly clothed, or whose clothing is lewd, obscene or offensive.”

News Media has not independently verified the passenger’s account, and United declined to provide additional details about why the shirt was deemed offensive.

Saadeh, who is of Palestinian descent, told CBS New York the shirt was intended to advocate for children and oppose violence regardless of nationality or ethnicity. He also said he filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Transportation and is consulting with attorneys.

Wear the Peace, the organization behind the shirt, also posted screenshots on Facebook of what it said was an email Saadeh sent describing the incident.

In the email, Saadeh wrote that a United flight attendant first asked what his shirt said before a supervisor later asked him to get off the plane.

According to the email, the supervisor told Saadeh the flight attendant was offended by the shirt because it contained the word “bomb” and said he would have to change it or he would not be allowed to remain on the flight.

Saadeh also wrote that after landing in Newark, a United representative told him other passengers had complained because they found the shirt offensive and felt unsafe.

In a Facebook post, Wear the Peace said the shirt was “a peaceful statement, not a threat” intended to draw attention to the deaths of children in Gaza.

“The message does not encourage violence, threaten anyone, or suggest that the person wearing it intends to harm others,” the organization wrote.

In a follow-up Facebook post, the organization disputed the explanation that the word “bomb” prompted concern, arguing there was an important distinction between the phrase “Bombing kids is not self defense” and language suggesting a passenger posed a threat.

“The shirt did not say, ‘I have a bomb.’ It said, ‘Bombing kids is not self defense,'” the organization wrote, adding that clothing containing words such as “TNT” or “killer” is not typically treated as a security concern.

Wear the Peace also claimed one of its members recently flew on a United flight alongside a passenger wearing an Israel Defense Forces shirt without incident, arguing the airline applied its policy inconsistently.

News Media has reached out to the U.S. Department of Transportation to confirm receipt of Saadeh’s complaint, inquire whether the agency is reviewing the incident, and request comment on the allegations that a passenger was required to change his clothing before being allowed to travel.

Lindsey Graham’s Sister Appointed to Complete His Senate Term Amid Resignation

(The Hill) — In a significant political move, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone to fill the remaining term of her late brother, Senator Lindsey Graham, who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. Graham Nordone will assume the role immediately, following the Republican senator’s sudden death.

Nordone’s tenure is set to last only until January, as she completes the term of her late brother. Looking ahead, a special GOP primary is scheduled for August to determine who will serve the upcoming full six-year term.

Earlier on Monday, President Trump expressed his endorsement of Nordone’s appointment, describing it as a “fabulous tribute” to her brother’s legacy.

As Graham’s sole sibling, Nordone shared a close bond with him, notably having introduced him during his presidential campaign launch in 2015.

Both siblings had a shared history and often spoke fondly of their upbringing. Raised in the room behind their family’s business, the Sanitary Cafe — a combined pool hall, bar, and restaurant — they faced personal challenges early on. When their mother succumbed to Hodgkin lymphoma, Lindsey Graham, in his early 20s, assumed a caretaker role for his then 11-year-old sister.

Fifteen months later, they would be orphans after their father died.

“I can remember the day my father passed away, standing in the living room of that house, absolutely scared to death,” Nordone said in June 2015, opening for Graham’s presidential announcement event. “And Lindsey wrapped his arms around me and promised me that he would always be there for me and always take care of me, and I can assure you, he’s done that.”

“He always made me feel so loved and so secure. Lindsey also made sure I finished high school, went to college,” she added. “He even legally adopted me.”

More recently, Nordone was even featured in one of Graham’s campaign ads as the late senator sought reelection.

“Of all the things that have happened in my life, her turning out so well is the highlight of it,” Graham said in a 2015 interview with C-SPAN.

Asked what kind of role he could envision Nordone playing in the White House, noting that Graham would be a bachelor if elected president, the GOP senator said: “She would be a support network for me.”

“I hadn’t really thought much about it, but at the end of the day, whatever I ask her to do, she would do,” he said. “And if she took a role on, she would be a great representative of our country.”

Graham even joked in an interview with Daily Mail Online in 2015 that she could serve as his First Lady if needed.

Nordone has two daughters and has worked with helping people with disabilities find jobs, according to The New York Times.

High School Sleuths Tackle Decades-Old Mystery of the Redhead Murders

0

Decades have passed since a terrifying series of murders, infamously known as the “Redhead Murders,” gripped the nation. Yet, frustratingly, many of these chilling cases remain unresolved.

This string of crimes is thought to be linked as the victims, all women found near major U.S. highways, shared a common characteristic: their reddish or strawberry blonde hair. Now, the cases are back in the spotlight thanks to a group of Tennessee high school students who have taken on the challenge of solving these mysteries as part of a class project.

Their determined quest is the focus of Prime Video’s gripping docuseries, Murder 101. The series provides an in-depth look at the considerable hurdles investigators have faced while trying to unravel these cases that are still shrouded in mystery decades later.

Here’s a comprehensive overview of the Redhead Murders and the current state of these investigations:

What Are the Redhead Murders?

The Redhead Murders refer to a series of homicides that occurred during the late 1970s and 1980s. In numerous instances, according to Knox News, young women were strangled, with their bodies discovered along highways and interstates across Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia. The fact that many victims shared a striking feature—reddish or strawberry blonde hair—led authorities to speculate that a transient serial killer might have been targeting them.

“The speculation came that there could be a truck stop connection to it, or a truck driver,” then deputy-director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Steve Watson told the outlet. “But without any identification (of the victims), you couldn’t put them anywhere.”

In April 1985, law enforcement officers from five different states joined together to create a special task force to examine the murders, yet most of the victims were unidentifiable, making any investigation a challenge.

For years, the murders remained unsolved.

Who Is Jerry Johns and How Is He Connected to the Redhead Murders?

In 2019, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced it had tied one of the murders to convicted felon Jerry Johns.

The remains of Tina Marie McKenney Farmer were found along Interstate 75 in Campbell County, Tennessee on Jan. 1, 1985, according to the TBI, but for years she was considered a Jane Doe.

In November of 2016—with Farmer’s identity still unknown—TBI Special Agent Brandon Elkins resubmitted the victim’s clothing and a blanket used to wrap her body for DNA testing, the TBI said. They discovered semen on the items matched Johns, who died in prison in 2015 while serving time for another violent assault.

In that case, Linda Schacke—a young dancer with red hair—had been propositioned by Johns at a Knox County club, according to A&E. However, Johns drove her to a wooded area near I-40 and strangled her, according to court records obtained by the outlet.

She managed to survive the violent encounter and her testimony helped convict Johns of aggravated kidnapping and assault in 1987, A&E reported.

“The woman resembled Tina Farmer,” the TBI noted in their press release about the case, “and the circumstances in both cases were strikingly similar.”

However, it would be several decades until Johns would be tied to Farmer’s murder. Law enforcement authorities were able to positively identify her in August of 2018 after they noticed her listed on a missing persons blog and, noticing the similarities to the 1985 murder victim, used a fingerprint card from the early 1980s to confirm her identity, the TBI said.

“Once he was identified as the killer, agents began conducting interviews with potential associates of Johns,” TBI spokesperson Leslie Earhart told Oxygen. “The investigative findings were presented to the Campbell County Grand Jury in 2019, which is when we were able to publicly announce the information gathered about Jerry Johns.”

The grand jury concluded that had Johns been alive, he would have been indicted on first-degree murder charges, authorities said.

What Role Have the Elizabethton High School Students Played in the Redhead Murders?

Investigators got some unexpected help in the case from Elizabethton High School students, who began looking into the murders as part of a sociology class in 2018, according to People.

Their teacher Alex Campbell was looking for an innovative way to get the students’ involved.

“I had never heard about the murders even though I’ve lived here my entire life,” he told the outlet. “They had these murders, but nobody had ever come to a consensus whether there was a person responsible for more than one of them, was there a serial killer active?”

Their work—first chronicled in the podcast Murder 101 and now profiled in the Prime Video docuseries of the same name—ultimately helped authorities identify Farmer, People reported.

The students also concluded that there was evidence to suggest the person who killed Farmer could have also been linked to the murders of Lisa Nichols, Michelle Inman, Elizabeth Lamotte, Tracy Walker and an unidentified Jane Doe found in Mississippi’s DeSoto County, People reported in 2024.

When interviewed in connection to Schacke’s case, Johns never admitted to any murders, per A&E.

TBI Says Jerry Johns Has Only Been Linked to One Murder

Earhart told Oxygen that to-date, Farmer is the only victim that has been positively linked to Johns.

“At this time, there is no evidence to indicate that Jerry Johns is responsible for the death of Elizabeth Lamotte,” Earhart said. “Michelle Inman was identified in 2023, so at this stage, agents are still pursuing leads and gathering information about who she may have had contact with before her death.”

Lamotte, then 17, disappeared from her New Hampshire home in November of 1984. Her body was discovered along Interstate 81 in Greene County near Exit 44 in April 1985, according to a statement from the TBI, however, she wouldn’t be positively identified until 2018.

In addition, Inman’s skeletal remains were found in March 1985 along Interstate 24 in Tennessee’s Cheatham County, authorities said.

Earhart added to Oxygen that Walker’s death “is not connected to Jerry Johns.”

Walker was abducted from the Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette, Indiana after she was last spotted getting into a car with a group of older men. Earhart said it is believed the men took her to Elk Valley, Tenn. where she was murdered.

“Facts of Tracy’s abduction and work by investigators have led agents to believe that this group of men may have been well organized, and that Tracy might not have been their only victim,” Earhart said. “Investigators are hoping anyone who has information or may have encountered this group of men in and around this time period will come forward.”

In 2022, De Soto County Sheriff’s Department positively identified the remains of a Jane Doe with light red to blonde hair found by a truck driver along Highway 78 in January of 1985 as Lorie Ann Mealer Pennell, according to DNASolves.com.

Her death—which was ruled a homicide—also remains unsolved, according to the news outlet.

Oxygen reached out to the sheriff’s office for additional comment, but did not receive an immediate response.

Nichols, who was also said to have strawberry blonde hair, was discovered strangled to death along Interstate 40 in West Memphis, Arkansas in September 1984, A&E reported. Authorities believe she may have been trying to hitchhike when she disappeared, WBIR reported.

Oxygen reached out to the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office to learn more about her case, but did not receive an immediate reply.

FBI Launches Highway Serial Killings Initiative

After noticing a large number of murdered women being dumped along highways across the country, the  FBI announced in 2009 the Highway Serial Killings initiative to increase awareness among law enforcement officers and the public about the unsolved crimes.

“The victims in these cases are primarily women who are living high-risk, transient lifestyles, often involving substance abuse and prostitution,” they noted at the time. “They’re frequently picked up at truck stops or service stations and sexually assaulted, murdered, and dumped along a highway.”

The FBI said investigation into the crimes could often be difficult because of the mobile nature of the suspects—often believed to be long-haul truck drivers—multiple jurisdictions involved and the scarcity of forensic evidence left behind.

Former FBI Assistant Director Frank Figluizzi told WXIX in 2024 that the initiative remained active as authorities looked for potential patterns among killings.

Breaking News: Arrest Made in Pickens County Double Murder Case

0

In Pickens County, Alabama, a man has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including capital murder, following a tragic double homicide. This chilling case has shaken the local community.

Early on Sunday morning, around 12:15 a.m., Pickens County law enforcement responded to a break-in on County Road 49. Upon arrival, deputies apprehended a suspect — George Birmingham — at the scene, linking him initially to the burglary.

As the investigation unfolded, authorities connected Birmingham to an even more serious crime: a double homicide that had occurred prior to the burglary. Victims of this horrific event, identified as Justin Elrod and Lena Elrod, were found at their home on Langdon Woods Road.

By Monday, formal charges against Birmingham escalated, reflecting the gravity of his alleged actions. These charges now include capital murder, two counts of murder, second-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.

According to the sheriff’s office, this investigation is still active. As detectives continue to gather evidence, there remains a possibility of additional charges being filed against Birmingham.

Lindsey Graham’s Heartwarming Journey: Adopting His Baby Sister and Building an Unbreakable Bond

0

At just 22 years old, Lindsey Graham faced the unimaginable when he lost both of his parents within a span of 15 months. Faced with the task of raising his 13-year-old sister, Darline, he stepped up to the challenge with unwavering determination.

Lindsey put his personal aspirations on the back burner to take care of Darline, eventually adopting her so she could benefit from his military entitlements.

In a touching moment from his recent re-election campaign advertisement, Darline emotionally recounted the day they found themselves orphaned.

“Lindsey rushed in, enveloping me in a hug and reassuringly saying, ‘I am so sorry, but it’s going to be OK. I’m going to take care of you.’ And he did just that. He has always been my pillar of support,” she recalled.

When approached for an interview on Monday, Darline respectfully declined, telling the Daily Mail that discussing her brother’s memory so soon after his passing was ‘too difficult.’

Graham, 71, was a lifelong bachelor, and his sister and her two daughters were his only close family. Preliminary findings from the DC medical examiner’s office found he died of an aortic dissection caused by cardiovascular disease after paramedics were called to his Capitol Hill home Saturday night for chest pains.

He told the Daily Mail in 2015 during his presidential run that Darline could serve as first lady if he ever made it to the White House.

‘I’ve got a sister, she could play that role if necessary,’ he said, adding with a chuckle, ‘I’ve got a lot of friends. We’ll have a rotating first lady.’

Now Darline, 63, has entered politics in the most tragic circumstances, named South Carolina’s interim senator with Donald Trump’s blessing.

A Republican primary in August will decide who takes the seat when Graham’s term expires in January.

‘This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly,’ Trump posted on Truth Social.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster is set to appoint Darline at a press conference at 4pm, sources told CBS News.

The siblings grew up sharing a single room behind the Sanitary Cafe, the bar, pool hall and liquor store their parents ran on Main Street in the small town of Central, South Carolina.

The family later moved into a trailer and then a house next door to the bar.

Darline leaned on her big brother long before they were orphaned, running to him whenever she was sick or stuck on her homework.

He taught her to ride a bike, sprinting alongside and shouting encouragement, and picked her up when she fell.

‘He’s kind of like a brother, a father and a mother rolled into one,’ she told the New York Times in 2015.

Their mother died of Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1976, and a heart attack claimed their father a little more than a year later.

Darline moved in with an aunt and uncle while Graham finished his studies at the University of South Carolina.

He gave up his weekends to travel home and care for her while his classmates stayed on campus to enjoy themselves.

He then enlisted in the Air Force, where his guardianship of Darline allowed her to qualify for his benefits, and she has credited him with getting her through high school and on to college.

She went on to become a mother of two and built a career helping people with disabilities find work, a success her brother wore as a badge of honor.

‘Of all the things that have happened in my life, her turning out so well is the highlight of it by far,’ Graham told C-SPAN in 2015.

Darline introduced him on stage when he launched his White House bid in their hometown in 2015.

‘Lindsey was always my parent,’ she said at the time. ‘There was no doubt in my mind or anyone else’s mind that Lindsey was my guardian.’

Darline tearfully recalled the day they were left orphaned in a recent ad for Graham's re-election campaign. 'Lindsey came running in and just grabbed me up and hugged me. He was like, "I am so sorry, but it's going to be OK. I¿m going to take care of you." And he did. He¿s always been there for me'

She has said his devotion to raising her was the reason he never married.

‘He was just dedicating all of that time to raising me and going to school and trying to get an education. There’s just only so much time in a day,’ she told the Times.

Fifty years after he promised to take care of her, Darline is expected to be sworn in as his successor, the sister he raised now serving as caretaker to his constituents of more than two decades.
