Trump Vows Security Toll: US Plans Strait of Hormuz Blockade to Curb Iran

0

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — On Monday, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. will reinstate a blockade on Iran in the strategic Strait of Hormuz and introduce charges for other vessels seeking safe passage. This move suggests a shift in policy, amidst Iran’s assertion of its control over the vital maritime channel, as tensions escalate with fresh military exchanges threatening to reignite conflict.

Previously, the United States had advocated for unrestricted access to the strait, allowing free passage as it stood prior to the joint U.S. and Israeli offensive against Iran on February 28. Should either the U.S. or Iran impose fees, it would contravene international laws safeguarding navigational freedom, potentially exacerbating regional tensions and triggering economic ripples worldwide.

The market reacted with Brent crude oil prices climbing by 7.8% on Monday, reaching $81.92 per barrel, though still considerably lower than the peak of nearly $120 seen at the height of the conflict.

Recent escalations, prompted by Iranian assaults on vessels, have undermined the fragile ceasefire brokered last month. As part of that agreement, the U.S. had temporarily lifted its mid-April blockade and agreed to fully reopen the strait.

“We are reinstating the blockade on Iran,” Trump declared on social media, assuring that “all other countries will have fair and open access to the Strait,” highlighting the ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The president said the U.S. would be “reimbursed” by 20% of the value of cargo to help cover “any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security.”

The U.S. military said it will resume its blockade of Iranian ports Tuesday at 4 p.m. EDT.

The struggle over the strait is escalating

Iran asserts it has the right to manage traffic through the strait and potentially charge fees in accordance with the interim peace deal. The U.S. has disputed that.

Iran on Monday vowed to fight back against any U.S. interference in the strait. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi mocked Trump on social media and used his support for tolls to legitimize Iran’s position.

“POTUS is absolutely right. Whoever provides secure and safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz should be compensated for this service,” Araghchi wrote on X. “Iran has always been the GUARDIAN of the Strait and will remain so FOREVER. 20% is of course too much. We will be fair.”

The International Maritime Organization, the United Nations agency overseeing international shipping, said it was waiting to find out more about Trump’s proposal but remained opposed to tolls for passage through international waterways.

“There is no legal basis through which to introduce mandatory tolls simply to transit through a strait,” it said in a statement.

The U.S. had opposed charging fees in the strait

Meeting with Gulf leaders late last month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio had spoken forcefully against Iran charging fees for transit through the strait.

“That’s international waterway. There isn’t a nation on Earth that supports having to pay money to go through the straits,” Rubio told reporters in Bahrain on June 25.

Rubio also said there was “zero support among the Gulf countries for any sort of toll or fees or anything that charges for the use of international waters. The president’s made it clear that’s not going to happen.”

A fifth of the world’s oil and gas passed through the strait before Iran effectively shut it down at the start of the war, driving up global prices of energy, fertilizer and other goods. Traffic had picked up after last month’s agreement but remained well below prewar levels.

The American military has tried to establish a route through the strait along the coast of Oman that would be outside of Iranian control. Iran has attacked ships using that route, saying the U.S. is violating the interim peace deal. The U.S. has attacked Iran in response, drawing Iranian attacks on U.S.-allied Arab states.

US strikes as allied Arab states report a wave of attacks

The U.S. military said it struck dozens of sites on Monday in response to an Iranian attack on a container ship the day before, including air defense systems, radar sites, missile and drone equipment, and small boats. It said it used drone ships for the first time to hit an Iranian ship maintenance facility and submarine on Sunday.

Missile alert sirens sounded three times Monday in Bahrain, home to the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet. There was no immediate word on damage.

Separately, Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said its consulate in Iraq had been attacked. It did not immediately blame anyone for the attack or disclose damages or casualties.

The oil-rich kingdom – home to several U.S. military bases – also condemned Iran and “its factions and militias loyal to it in Iraq” for attacking what it described as “several border points” and a maritime oil drilling platform that belonged to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.

In Jordan, the kingdom’s military said it shot down four Iranian missiles in an incident that “resulted in zero casualties or material damage.” Jordan also hosts U.S. military forces and aircraft.

In Iran, authorities reported attacks in Hormozgan, Khuzestan and Markazi provinces and said at least two people were killed, according to state-run IRNA news agency. Semiofficial Iranian media also reported strikes in the eastern Sistan and Baluchestan province, which is on a coast of the Gulf of Oman.

Iran blames the US for the chaos in the region

The attacks on Iran continued hours after the U.S. ended its strikes – again raising the possibility that Gulf Arab states were retaliating. There were unclaimed attacks on Iran on Thursday.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei blamed Washington for the chaos gripping the region. He said Iran wouldn’t agree to visits by the International Atomic Energy Agency to nuclear sites the U.S. bombed in 2025. That’s where Tehran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium is believed to be entombed.

Trump suggested last week that the interim deal in the war was “over” and the U.S. ended waivers allowing Iran to sell crude oil on the open market in U.S. dollars. But mediators, including Pakistan, Qatar and Egypt, have continued efforts to reach a final agreement to end the war.

Iran and the U.S. are nearly halfway through the 60-day period in which they were supposed to negotiate such an agreement, which was also supposed to address Iran’s disputed nuclear program.

Burnham Set to Become PM Following Historic 349 MP Nominations

0

Andy Burnham is now set to become the Labour leader, having achieved the necessary support from 349 MPs for his leadership bid.

Earlier today, Mike Reader, a backbench MP, announced his endorsement of Mr. Burnham. This made him the 323rd MP to support Burnham, putting the leadership contest out of reach for any other contenders.

Prior to Reader’s endorsement, 322 MPs had already pledged their backing for Burnham, the former Mayor of Greater Manchester. This level of support effectively eliminates other competitors, as a challenger would need 81 nominations to qualify, with only 403 Labour MPs available to choose from.

As of this afternoon, Burnham has further solidified his position by securing an additional 26 nominations, bringing his total to 349.

Among these latest endorsements is Communities Secretary Steve Reed, who is closely aligned with Sir Keir Starmer, adding significant weight to Burnham’s campaign.

Mr Reed was the only member of the Cabinet not to nominate Mr Burnham last week – Shabana Mahmood and Anna Turley by convention will not nominate anyone because of their positions chairing Labour’s national executive committee and the party respectively. Sir Keir, as outgoing leader, also by convention does not take part.

Others who nominated Mr Burnham on Monday included junior ministers Sir Chris Bryant and Mike Tapp, former minister Jess Phillips and Richard Burgon, secretary of the left-wing Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs.

In reality, Mr Burnham’s appointment was already assured because Keir Starmer has said he will not support anyone. He will officially become party leader on Friday, and take over from Keir Starmer on Monday.

However, there is still widespread concern about a lack of clarity on what Mr Burnham will do with his new power – obtained without even the approval of Labour members, let alone the general public.

He is said to be plotting a ‘mega-Budget’ in the Autumn, combining a major fiscal package with a full spending review.

Fears are mounting about a new tax raid focused on the ‘wealthy’ South, with allies pushing proposals including a land tax, council tax revaluation and enhanced mansion tax to fund a splurge on council housing and public control of utilities.

Mr Burnham – who will appear at a hustings with MPs behind closed doors tonight – has not fleshed out any tax or spending plans beyond a commitment to stick to the Labour manifesto and increase devolution.

Despite his colleagues’ frenzied rush to vow loyalty, the former Cabinet minister has almost no mandate from the public.

He did not stand on Labour’s election-winning mandate in 2024 and the 25,000 voters who backed him in the Makerfield by-election represent just 0.05 per cent of the British electorate.

Ministers and MPs have been frantically jockeying for jobs in the new administration, with Ed Miliband hoping to be made chancellor despite alarm in some quarters over his ‘Soviet’ views.

New Labour figures have been heavily tipped, including the idea of David Miliband coming back as Foreign Secretary. Another ex-Cabinet minister, James Purnell, will be No10 chief of staff.

Mr Burnham will be formally declared Labour leader at a special conference on July 17 and is expected to then become prime minister on July 20.

Once MPs have made a nomination they cannot change it unless the candidate withdraws.

Former armed forces minister Al Carns was the last prospective opponent to fold last week, saying that ‘months of internal Labour politics isn’t what the country needs right now’.

Meanwhile, Sir Keir is making the most of his last week in office – by heading to France instead.

The premier – nicknamed ‘never here Keir’ by critics of his globetrotting – will attend a ‘Coalition of the Willing’ meeting in Paris, and is expected to attend Bastille Day events tomorrow.

Essential Exercises to Enhance Ease of Movement for Seniors Over 60

Does rising from the floor seem more challenging after turning 60? Discover three routines you can practice daily to regain this essential skill.

>

For many, the ability to get up off the floor diminishes gradually in their 60s without them even noticing. It’s a crucial skill for maintaining independence. Over time, legs weaken, hips stiffen, and suddenly, navigating the floor feels like a foreign experience.

Having spent nearly four decades as a personal trainer, and the last twenty years as director and co-founder of TRAINFITNESS—a provider of personal trainer courses both online and in-person across the UK—I’ve witnessed countless clients face this challenge. Yet, I’ve also seen how three specific exercises can make a remarkable difference.

By engaging in these three exercises every day, you can significantly improve your ability to rise from the floor—and more swiftly than you might anticipate.

Common Challenges Getting Up

There are four things that tend to get in the way:

  • Fear. Once someone has been on the floor and struggled to get up, or has watched a friend or family member struggle, the whole idea becomes something to avoid. That avoidance then makes the problem worse, because the skill only stays sharp with practice.
  • Weak hips and legs. The exact pattern of pushing up from a kneeling position needs a lot of one-legged strength, which is precisely what fades in this age group without deliberate training.
  • Wrists and hands. Bearing weight on the hands is uncomfortable at best and painful at worst for many over 60s, and if the wrists can’t hold the body up, one of the most useful rise strategies is off the table.
  • Mobility. Getting up efficiently needs the hips to open enough that you can get one foot flat on the floor with the knee bent. Many over 60s have lost that range and don’t realize it until they need it.

10-Minute Home Routine That Builds Posture Strength Faster Than the Gym After 60

Why It Gets Harder After 60

Muscle loss picks up pace after 60, and the fibers that fade first are the fast-firing ones needed for quick position changes. The hip mobility that let you drop into a squat at 40 also disappears gradually, and the wrists soften from decades of typing rather than pushing.

Balance recovery slows down too. Getting up involves a controlled shift of weight through several positions, and each transition is a small balance challenge. If the balance system is a bit slower, each transition becomes a stumble risk.

The reason this matters goes beyond convenience. A well-known assessment called the sitting-rising test has shown that people who can get down to the floor and back up without using their hands score much better on longevity than people who need multiple hands and knees to do it. Every point off the maximum score of ten is associated with a higher risk of dying in the next few years.

The practical side is just as important. If you fall, you have to get back up. If you can’t, you’re on the floor waiting for help, which is a scenario nobody wants to face. Being able to get off the floor unaided is one of the biggest markers of remaining independent.

The Skills You Really Need

  • Leg strength. You need enough single-leg strength to push the whole body up from a low position, using one leg at a time.
  • Hip mobility. Getting a foot flat under you, with the knee bent, needs a reasonable amount of external rotation and hip flexion. Without that range, you can’t get into the position that lets the leg do its job.
  • Trunk strength. It holds everything together while the legs do their work, keeping the body upright and stopping it from collapsing sideways during the transition.
  • Wrist, hand and shoulder strength. If the legs can’t do it alone, being able to push through a hand on the floor is a way up. This is often the difference between getting back up and staying down.
  • Balance and coordination. All of the above have to happen in the right order, with weight shifting smoothly from one point of support to another.

Irish Fugitive Linked to American Mother’s Murder Captured in Jordan

0

A migrant who fled Ireland following the violent murder of an American woman in a renowned tourist destination has been apprehended in his home country of Jordan, as reported by Irish media.

This individual, identified by Irish police as a “person of interest,” was taken into custody over the past two days by Jordan’s Public Security Directorate. Authorities discovered his return to Jordan and recognized him as a central figure in the ongoing Garda investigation into the murder, according to the Irish Mirror. Irish officials were reportedly notified of this arrest on Monday.

Irish police confirmed to News Media their awareness of “the arrest of a male in Jordan by the Jordanian authorities.” However, they did not reveal his identity nor officially link him as the person of interest in their investigation.

The authorities also clarified that they have “not made any request to the Jordanian authorities for the arrest of any person at this time.”

According to the Irish Independent, there is no extradition treaty between Ireland and Jordan, where the individual is currently held.

Jamey Carney

The man at the center of the case had reportedly been refused asylum in Ireland but remained in the country while appealing that decision before the murder took place. He still possessed his passport, allowing him to leave Ireland before Carney’s body was discovered, according to the Irish Mirror.

The reported arrest marks a major turn in the investigation after the man fled Ireland before Carney’s body was discovered, sparking an international search spanning Ireland, Turkey and now Jordan.

Jamey Carney, 43, a New York native who moved to Ireland in 2021, died from suffocation after suffering head injuries at her home in Killarney, County Kerry, The Irish Times reported. The idyllic tourist town is hugely popular among U.S. tourists.

Detectives believe Carney was killed around 11 p.m. Monday, hours before her 13-year-old daughter discovered her body at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. By then, the man had traveled roughly 200 miles by bus to Dublin Airport and boarded a flight to Istanbul, according to the Irish Independent.

The Irish Independent reported the man had expressed a desire to relocate to the United States and had told acquaintances Carney was helping him pursue U.S. residency. Investigators now believe the Jordanian national was with Carney on Monday evening, the night she was fatally assaulted.

He arrived in Ireland in 2024 – amid an influx of illegal immigrants descending on the island country – and worked in the hospitality and construction sectors before becoming involved in a relationship with Carney, according to the Irish Independent.

Irish police also have yet to publicly identify the person of interest or release his name, photograph or any physical description, a decision that has drawn criticism from a former FBI agent and Irish politicians, as previously reported by News Media.

Because Carney was an American citizen, an Irish police request to Interpol will now be monitored by the U.S. National Central Bureau (USNCB), the U.S. liaison to Interpol staffed by personnel from the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security, according to the Irish Independent.

The FBI told News Media it stands ready to assist Irish authorities if requested.

“Through our Legal Attaché in London, we have strong, established relationships and stand ready to assist in any way that the Irish government may request,” the FBI said in a statement. “We would refer you to the Irish authorities leading the investigation for any comment on this matter.”

News Media asked Irish police and Ireland’s Department of Justice to confirm reports that the man had previously been refused asylum while appealing that decision. Neither agency confirmed the reports.

The man had been living in state-run accommodation for asylum seekers in Killarney before spending increasing amounts of time at Carney’s home after they became romantically involved, according to the Irish Mirror.

He first arrived in the United Kingdom before traveling through Northern Ireland and eventually settling in County Kerry, according to the Irish Mirror.

His social media accounts contain posts from the United Kingdom and Turkey in recent years.

Carney’s social media profiles described her as a “New Yorker in Ireland” and showed her with a man she identified as her partner, writing in one post that they were a “mixed couple.” Carney also indicated in one social media post that she had begun learning Arabic.

Multiple Irish media outlets have identified the man as the person police are seeking, though Irish police have not publicly confirmed his identity or reported immigration status.

It’s been an interesting season for the Dream. They got off to a roaring start with a 12-4 record through late June, but the wheels came off quickly. They lost four in a row on a west coast road trip and dropped six of their past seven games entering Monday’s game.

The Sparks have been on a roller coaster ride just looking at the standings. They haven’t been more than one game above .500 this season and each time the’ve gotten over that mark, they hit a losing streak. A win tonight could get them back to .500 for the fourth time this season.

Federal Judge Strikes Down Trump’s $1.8 Billion Fund Usage Plan

    0

A federal judge, appointed by former President Obama, has delivered a sharp rebuke of Donald Trump’s $1.8 billion fund, suggesting that sanctions be imposed on the former president’s legal team.

On Monday, US District Judge Kathleen Williams expressed that Trump’s lawsuit targeting the Internal Revenue Service over leaked tax returns was initiated with a dubious intent.

Judge Williams noted that the lawsuit seemed like an attempt to manipulate the judicial system to validate a deal that offered immunity to Trump’s associates while earmarking billions in taxpayer dollars for legally unfounded claims.

The legal proceedings came to a close in May when Trump settled the lawsuit after the Department of Justice consented to establish a $1.776 billion fund. This fund aimed to reimburse Trump’s political supporters and shield him from impending tax audits.

Following a storm of criticism from Washington’s legislators, Trump decided to discontinue the fund earlier this summer.

Judge Williams, 70, also ordered sanctions for the attorney involved in the lawsuit, arguing their handling of this case violated DOJ policies and potentially the law.

Williams referred Trump’s personal attorney Alejandro Brito to the Florida Bar for possible disciplinary action. She also barred Trump’s former White House lawyer, Daniel Z. Epstein, from being admitted to practice before the Southern District of Florida for one year or until the court orders otherwise.

Separately, Williams ordered copies of her ruling sent to the New York bar, where Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche faces disciplinary proceedings against him.

The judge also barred Trump, the Justice Department and all other parties in the case from citing the purported settlement as evidence of a settlement in any future judicial proceedings.

The President, his sons Don Jr and Eric, and the Trump Organization initially filed suit against the Treasury and IRS in the Southern District of Florida federal court after the leak of their tax returns in 2019.

In May, they agreed to drop their suit, as well as two claims, including for damages resulting from the raid on Mar-a-Lago in 2022 and the Russian election interference probe, in exchange for the government’s creation of the ‘Anti-Weaponization Fund.’

The now-defunct settlement granted Trump’s fund with the power to issue formal apologies and monetary relief owed to claimants.

It was intended to be governed by a five-member commission appointed by the Attorney General, with Trump given the power to remove any member.

While Trump was barred from directly receiving payments from the fund, entities associated with him were not explicitly prohibited from filing additional ones.

The settlement also had a provision that protected the president, his family and all his business entities from future tax audits.

Williams’s ruling on Monday suggests that Trump may no longer have immunity from future IRS investigations.

In response, a spokesperson for Trump’s legal team issued the following statement: ‘The IRS wrongly allowed a rogue, politically-motivated employee to leak private and confidential information about President Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization.’

‘President Trump continues to hold those who wrong America and Americans accountable,’ the spokesperson added.

West Virginia Police Department’s Evidence Room Scandal Sparks Turmoil Without Terminations

    0

City officials in a West Virginia town are disputing claims from their own police department that staff members were all dismissed. This clarification follows a sweeping internal review initiated due to accusations of a break-in at the department’s evidence room.

The Barrackville Police Department stirred controversy with a Facebook post on July 7. In the message, they stated that city authorities had terminated the entire department.

“With immediate effect, the Barrackville Police Department has been relieved of duty by the Mayor and City Council,” read the department’s post. “We are deeply thankful for the support, trust, and encouragement received from the Barrackville community during our tenure. Serving and protecting this town has been an honor and a privilege.”

The statement came on the heels of the abrupt resignation of then-Police Chief Zachary Freeburn, who also stepped down “effective immediately.”

However, in a statement to News Media, Barrackville’s general counsel, John Funkhouser, said the police department’s claim of a mass firing is “entirely inaccurate.” He said two officers were placed on temporary leave pending an internal investigation into an alleged break-in at the department’s evidence room.

Funkhouser said then-Chief Freeburn told council member Alex Neville on July 1 that the department’s evidence locker was cleaned out under an order from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, leaving firearms confiscated years ago along with $30 in abandoned cash. The following day, Freeburn resigned.

Officer David Hunt then reached out to Barrackville Mayor Thomas Straight regarding an “action plan” for the department. Due to an alleged lack of “proper records and other documentation,” Straight placed Hunt and officer Ethan Darden on temporary inactive status to give the town’s council “time to review all pertinent information regarding the operation of the Barrackville Police Department.”

Straight raised concerns on July 6 that unauthorized individuals could remotely access surveillance cameras at the police department, which included those housed in the evidence room. When several council members entered the evidence room, they found “a list of safe combinations on a desk and used one to open the safe, which turned up nothing.”

One police cruiser was also found unlocked by the council members, along with another one that had an “unsecured rifle” inside. The officers were placed on leave the following day.

Hunt responded by saying he was going to investigate the alleged break-in at the police department and wanted to claim “whistleblower” status, inviting the West Virginia State Police to investigate. After town officials met with the West Virginia State police, the Barrackville Police Department’s clerk resigned.

“The assertion that the entire police staff has been fired in entirely inaccurate. The Mayor and Council engaged in necessary acts of oversight to ensure the accountability of the Barrackville Police Department and confirm that the Department was complying with all rules and regulations under which the department should have been operating. The Town of Barrackville is committed to transparency, accountability and the safety of its residents,” Funkhouser said in a statement.

Hunt’s account to WBOY differs from the town’s version of events, telling the outlet that he discovered the evidence room had been entered by someone else when he got to work on July 7.

After accusing town officials of entering the evidence room, he and another officer, who consist of the entire town’s police force, were fired.

In a Facebook post, the Barrackville Town Council announced that the July 7 meeting was canceled due to “a lack of sufficient information regarding items listed under unfinished business.”

In the meantime, Marion County Sheriff Roger Cunningham told WBOY that their agency will handle calls within Barrackville.

Potential Successors to Graham in the Senate: A Closer Look

(The Hill) – In the wake of the sudden passing of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Saturday evening, a political race has swiftly commenced to find his replacement.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (R) has taken immediate steps to address the vacancy, with plans to announce an interim appointment for the veteran senator this coming Monday at 4 p.m. EDT, as stated by his office.

The upcoming appointee will carry out senatorial duties for a brief period—slightly over five months—until a new successor is formally elected by South Carolina’s voters to officially assume the role on January 3, 2027.

A special primary election, slated for August 11, will enable South Carolinians to cast their votes to determine the GOP nominee. Should no candidate secure a decisive win, an additional runoff will occur on August 25.

The Republican candidate who emerges victoriously from this political contest will then face the Democratic challenger, Annie Andrews, in the general election scheduled for November.

Here’s who’s on the short list of potential candidates to replace Graham:

    Darline Graham Nordone, Graham’s sister

The sister of the late senator, Graham Nordone has already been recommended to replace him temporarily by the most prominent Republican, President Trump.

“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Graham Nordone’s older brother ultimately raised her after she was orphaned by the loss of both of their parents within 15 months.

By 1976, Graham, who was in his twenties, stepped up to raise his then-12-year-old sister while juggling classes at the University of South Carolina.

Now she could step in into Graham’s shoes in the 119th Congress.

    Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.)

Norman is exploring a run to replace Graham as the GOP nominee for Senate, a source familiar with the campaign confirmed to The Hill.

Norman has already asked for the president’s endorsement, according to Bloomberg Government.

Trump told the South Carolina lawmaker “give me a week” before he makes a decision on backing Norman or another Republican to replace Graham, who was a well-respected defense hawk and close ally of the president.

Earlier this year, Norman lost the Republican nomination to become South Carolina’s next governor.

    Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette (R-S.C.)

Evette is another potential candidate that could file paperwork to replace Graham long term. She received Trump’s original endorsement to become the Palmetto State’s next governor, but ultimately loss the nomination in a runoff against Attorney General Alan Wilson (R).

Sources told The Associated Press that she’s fielded calls about serving as Graham’s replacement after serving under McMaster for nearly eight years.

    Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.)

Mace is expected to conduct polling on her chances of serving as Graham’s replacement as soon as next week.

She and others vying for the party nomination have until July 28 to file paperwork after the filing period opens on July 21. Mace lost the Republican nomination for the South Carolina governorship earlier this year.

Due to her gubernatorial campaign, she forfeited a chance at retaining her seat in the House.

In recent months, Mace has towed the line with Trump, siding with Democrats on efforts to release the files from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate and heavily opposing putting boots on the ground in Iran.

    Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent

Some are eying Bessent to take up Graham’s seat. The Cabinet secretary, who previously resided in South Carolina before joining the second Trump administration, has not mentioned any interest.

However, he did reflect on Graham’s legacy in a Sunday statement.

“It was an honor to call him my friend. And work with him to advance President Trump’s agenda at home and on the international stage,” Bessent wrote in the post on X.

“Lindsey was a one-of-a-kind politician who could speak at length on both global defense policy and South Carolina kitchen table issues. He will be missed across our state, country and the entire globe,” he added.

    Rep. William Timmons (R-S.C.)

Timmons has said he was open to replacing Graham if called upon.

“If and when the time comes to discuss the future, I have always been willing to serve South Carolina wherever I can make the greatest difference,” Timmons told CNBC in a statement.

    Rep. Russell Fry (R-S.C.)

Fry has been a staunch ally of Trump’s in the lower chamber and could be another name considered for the role.

He endorsed Graham’s sister to serve as the late senator’s temporary replacement.

“I couldn’t agree with President Trump more— having Senator Graham’s sister, Darline, finish his term would be the most utmost tribute to Lindsey’s life of service,” Fry wrote in a post on X.

    Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.)

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) spoke in favor of Gowdy replacing Graham at least temporarily.

“Trey Gowdy would be a fantastic placeholder, but certainly there are other names in the mix,” Scott told CNN on Monday. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Trey would serve well.”

Scott has also floated former Sen. Jim DeMint (D-S.C.) as a potential GOP candidate.

Gas Station Showdown: Fatal Love Triangle Ends in Tragedy

A Missouri man, Ramel Morgan, has been sentenced to prison after being spotted on surveillance footage with a firearm at a gas station just before a deadly shooting occurred.

Ramel Morgan, aged 20, entered a guilty plea for second-degree murder on July 9 in relation to the shooting death of an unnamed victim. He confessed to discharging the fatal shots on December 7, 2025, at a Kansas City gas station, an event captured by the station’s surveillance cameras. Morgan surrendered to the authorities a few weeks following the incident, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime.

Though the victim’s identity has not been released, law enforcement indicated a potential love triangle might have linked Morgan, the victim, and a woman both were reportedly involved with.

Police records show that officers were dispatched to the scene in response to shooting reports around 11:45 p.m. on December 7, 2025. Upon arrival, neither the victim nor the suspect was present. It was later discovered that the victim managed to drive himself to a hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

A witness told police that they saw the suspect, later identified as Morgan, fire several shots into the victim’s silver Mustang before fleeing the scene on foot. Police found a 9mm Winchester shell casing at the scene. At the hospital, police found the victim’s silver Mustang and a Glock 22 .40-caliber handgun inside.

Police then reviewed the surveillance footage from the gas station, which showed Morgan’s gray Hyundai Sonata pulling up to the gas pumps. Three unnamed individuals got out of the car and went inside the store; Morgan then exited the driver’s side and went inside, where he was seen carrying “an object resembling a handgun.” Morgan was seen coming in and out of the store until he saw the victim’s Mustang pull into a parking space.

According to the complaint, Morgan walked over to the passenger’s side of the victim’s car and spoke with the driver, who was identified as the victim. After a brief conversation, Morgan opened fire and shot into the Mustang multiple times before running away.

The three unnamed individuals ran out of the store and got into a black Jeep, which then drove away from the gas station. Police found Morgan’s Sonata in the parking lot.

Police tracked down the driver of the Jeep and other witnesses who were at the gas station during the shooting. One of them had recorded the incident on their phone, which captured a male voice saying, “Come here before I kill this [expletive],” followed by a female voice saying, “You do what you have to do.”

Police said a witness who was at the scene told officers that Morgan asked the victim if he was there to see an unnamed woman. The same woman was identified by a witness as being “involved romantically” with both Morgan and the victim, “which [the witness] believed led to the shooting.”

Several witnesses identified Morgan in a photo lineup. One witness told police that Morgan confessed to shooting the victim after seeing him with a gun.

Morgan was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Bryce Harper Slams FanDuel Over Controversial Cameo Video Fiasco

    0

Bryce Harper recently addressed his role in a contentious FanDuel video, accusing the online sportsbook of misleading him to exploit a gambler battling addiction.

Per the Philadelphia Inquirer, Harper had filmed a video message for Terry Thompson, a VIP client who gambled away $18.5 million with FanDuel. Thompson faced financial ruin, eventually losing his home after securing second and third mortgages to cover his mounting losses.

In a desperate attempt to recoup financial stability, Thompson also parted with a company stake he had held for twenty years.

Thompson has now filed lawsuits against both FanDuel and DraftKings.

The personalized video message Harper made for Thompson stirred significant controversy. However, the Phillies star released a statement on Instagram Monday, asserting that he was unaware of the video’s full purpose when he participated.

Bryce Harper said he did not know the video he recorded for Thompson was a gambling promotion Philadelphia Inquirer

“I joined Cameo to engage with fans through paid personalized videos. What happened here went beyond anything I knew about or approved,” he began.

“In November 2024, someone identifying themselves only as ‘Bryttanni’ submitted an order through Cameo for a personal ‘holiday video for Terry.’ Cameo had a separate category for business video requests, and at the time, I did not know this video would be used for commercial purposes.

“The request included a short script. I read it in good faith. FanDuel then put its own logo on the video and used it as a gambling promotion. I did not know FanDuel would do this, I did not consent to it, and FanDuel had no right to do it.”

Harper also posted a screenshot of the Cameo request from Thompson’s VIP host, Brytttani, which included the script that he ultimately read in the video.

“Hey Terry, what’s up, brother, your host Bryttanni from FanDuel wanted to make sure your Thanksgiving was extra special,” Harper said in the video.

“I just wanted to hop on here and wish your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. Tell [redacted name to protect the identity of minor] I said ‘Hello.’ I appreciate all of the support through the years.”

Harper added that he also was unaware of Thompson’s gambling addiction, and has “no affiliation with FanDuel whatsoever.”

Thompson told the Inquirer that he was addicted to micro-betting, and FanDuel gave him lavish perks such as Super Bowl tickets.

However, he ultimately lost nearly $2 million, and police were reportedly called to check on him at his home after he lost his final $10,000.
