Indiana Man Accused of Self-Mutilation and Arson in Shocking Garage Incident

0

In Indiana, authorities have charged a man accused of severing his own penis, soaking it with gasoline, and setting it ablaze inside a garage, which subsequently led to a structural fire.

Christopher Michael Peden is facing legal action for arson damage related to this bizarre incident, which court documents reveal occurred on May 6, as reported by Oxygen.

Records show that the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to the residence shared by Peden, his mother, and his brother during the early hours of May 6. They responded to a call reporting a fire in a standalone garage, confirmed by a probable cause affidavit reviewed by Oxygen.

According to the court documents, Peden’s brother informed investigators that he and their mother were asleep when a neighbor alerted them to the garage fire. He mentioned that the only flammable substance present in the garage was a small gas container used for refueling their lawn mower.

Initially, the family was uncertain of Peden’s whereabouts. However, it was later revealed by a Fort Wayne police officer — as stated in the affidavit — that Peden had been admitted to the hospital, claiming that he was stabbed in downtown Fort Wayne shortly before the fire incident.

Yet, once at the hospital, Peden allegedly admitted that he’d been lying at the scene of the stabbing and admitted to harming himself with a kitchen knife. He told officers, per the affidavit, that he’d gone into the garage around 2 a.m. and used the knife to cut off his penis, then “poured gasoline on his penis and set it on fire on the floor of the garage just inside the door.”

He then left the garage and walked away from the property until he encountered the police.

Inside the garage, authorities discovered the remains of a red plastic gasoline container and four BIC lighters. They also found a kitchen knife “near the area of origin,” according to the court documents.

Peden was released from custody July 7 after posting a surety bond, according to court records.

His attorney David Felts told Oxygen he is working to arrange a meeting with his client and declined to provide any additional details about the alleged incident, adding that his client’s “mental and physical wellbeing remains my foremost concern throughout this process.”

Harry Kane’s Unforgettable Golf Showdown with Trump: A Surreal Soccer-Star Experience

0

British footballer Harry Kane revealed on Friday that he took part in a round of golf with U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida approximately 18 months ago, following a personal invitation from the president.

Kane, addressing the media in Miami before England’s World Cup quarterfinal face-off with Norway, confirmed this unique encounter with Trump during a press briefing.

“While in Palm Beach, I received an invite from him. It was quite an extraordinary experience to meet the president and have the chance to play golf alongside him,” he shared, commending Trump’s golfing prowess.

Kane remarked, “I must admit, his golfing abilities are impressive. I certainly hope to play with such skill when I reach his age.”

Trump reminisced about the golfing event earlier this week, expressing his admiration for Kane, who has become one of the standout players in this year’s FIFA World Cup.

“I think Kane is a great player,” the president said. “See, I played golf with him, and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer.”

The two are believed to have played at Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, though neither specified the course.

Trump has taken a strong interest in the World Cup, which is being hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Earlier this week, he called FIFA President Gianni Infantino in an attempt to reverse a red card given to U.S. men’s national team star player Folarin Balogun, which caused him to receive an automatic one-match suspension.

Balogun’s suspension was ultimately reduced to a suspended sentence, a decision Infantino insisted was not influenced by the president’s outreach, making him eligible to play in the U.S.’s Round of 16 match against Belgium.

The U.S. was later eliminated from the tournament after losing 4-1 to Belgium.

Kane is hoping to lead England to the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 1966. The 32-year-old is among the top scorers in the tournament so far, having already scored six goals for England.

Norway and England play on Saturday afternoon. A day earlier, the British and Norwegian embassies in Washington, D.C., shared light-hearted banter online ahead of the game.

Showrunner Breaks Down Hunter Davenport’s Unexpected Twist in Off Campus Season 1

0

Amazon Prime Video’s hit series “Off Campus” concluded its first season with an unexpected twist. The secondary couple, Dean Di Laurentis (portrayed by Stephen Kalyn) and Allie Hayes (played by Mika Abdalla), find themselves in trouble when their decision to explore other romantic interests backfires. The controversy peaks when Allie chooses to get involved with Hunter Davenport (Charlie Evans), a choice fraught with tension given Hunter’s strained history with Dean.

Fans familiar with Elle Kennedy’s novels may have been startled by Hunter’s appearance in the season finale, as he is absent from the book “The Deal,” which the season adapts. In an interview with Deadline, the series’ creator and co-showrunner Louisa Levy shed light on this unexpected narrative choice. According to her, introducing Hunter served to inject an external conflict into Allie and Dean’s tumultuous relationship, hinting that this may be a prelude to what awaits in Season 2.

Levy mentioned, “[Hunter’s introduction] diverges a bit from the books. Our goal was to bring the internal conflicts out and keep the audience engaged, providing a new angle on this character while respecting his origins. Season 2 has some developments in store, but for now, that’s all I’m willing to share; we have a journey ahead before unveiling more.”

Hunter Davenport is a character from the Briar U spin-off series

Hunter Davenport’s reveal introduces a compelling double twist. Initially, he masquerades under the alias Carter St. James, which intensifies the impact when his true identity and relationship with Allie come to light. His late entrance into the story is notable since he features prominently in the spin-off series “Briar U” as the lead of “The Play.” Levy, in her conversation with Deadline, elaborated on the decision to incorporate this character in the series.

“Hunter is a significant figure in the ‘Briar U’ lineup, and we were keen on emphasizing that our narrative extends beyond just four books,” Levy commented. “We aim to explore the expansive universe of Elle Kennedy’s characters, introducing them in surprising ways, particularly those with stories yet to unfold.”

The way Levy describes it, the show intends to use Kennedy’s other works to complement the “Off Campus” books the series is primarily based on. As such, Hunter Davenport might be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to surprise appearances. TV shows like “Off Campus” always want to keep the viewer on the edge of their seat, and this is a clever way to do that for fans who are already familiar with the novels.

“Off Campus” Season 1 is streaming on Prime Video.

Tragic Bahamas Plane Crash Claims Beloved Musicians’ Lives as Flights Get Grounded

0

A tragic sequence of aviation mishaps in the Bahamas, highlighted by a fatal plane crash in North Andros and a separate aircraft fire, led the government to halt the operations of a local airline and initiate a federal safety investigation.

Not long after 1 p.m. local time on Friday, a Cessna 402, registered in the Bahamas, took off from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, en route to San Andros Airport.

According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA), the plane “encountered difficulties” and crashed into the bushes shortly before it was scheduled to land.

In response, first responders from the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Airport Authority, and emergency medical teams swiftly arrived at the densely wooded crash site.

The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union confirmed in a statement Saturday that 10 people died in the crash, including prominent members of the “The Pond Band” and a local DJ, whose artistry the union said “touched so many lives and helped to enrich the cultural fabric of The Bahamas.”

Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis said a sole survivor was pulled from the wreckage.

“Ann and I are praying for the families who are now facing unbearable grief,” Davis wrote in a statement on X. “We are also praying for the survivor, whose recovery and care will remain in our thoughts.”

The identities of those killed in the crash have not yet been released.

While the AAIA’s preliminary reports initially indicated seven people were on board, officials are still establishing the facts of the flight manifest.

Just hours before the fatal crash in North Andros, a Flamingo Air flight en route to Mayaguana was forced to turn back to Nassau after the pilot reported a concern, according to the Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation (MoET).

After the aircraft landed and passengers safely deplaned, the plane caught fire on the runway.

Following the two back-to-back safety incidents, the Civil Aviation Authority Bahamas (CAAB) temporarily suspended Flamingo Air’s Air Operator Certificate, according to MoET officials.

“The suspension is a precautionary safety measure and should not be treated as an adverse compliance action against Flamingo Air,” the agency wrote in a statement.

Zack Wheeler Opts Out of All-Star Game: Here’s Why It Matters

0

Zack Wheeler is making headlines with his decision to stand firm.

The star pitcher for the Phillies has voiced his disappointment after being initially overlooked for the All-Star Game held at his home field. Despite a belated invitation from Major League Baseball, Wheeler opted to skip the event, expressing that he felt “disrespected” and didn’t want to be seen as merely a “fifth option.”

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Wheeler conveyed his feelings candidly, as reported by The Athletic. “They disrespected me, so I’m not going to participate,” he stated.

While Wheeler takes a stand, six other Phillies players—Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Jesus Luzardo, Brandon Marsh, Christopher Sanchez, and Jhoan Duran—are set to represent the team at the July 14 showcase at Citizens Bank Park. Despite his impressive 2.28 ERA across 14 starts since returning from thoracic outlet syndrome, Wheeler was initially left out of the All-Star lineup.

Adding to his impressive season, Wheeler (9-1) recently struck out 14 batters, allowing just one run over seven innings in a victorious outing against Cincinnati.

“I felt like that was a reminder for whoever needs to be reminded,” Wheeler said after the win. “It pisses me off. It’s kind of BS. Maybe if I wasn’t necessarily right in [the All-Star mix], I wouldn’t be saying this. But I feel like I’ve earned it.”

Wheeler, 36, is a three-time All-Star. Each of those selections came after the Mets showed virtually no interest in him after the 2019 season, allowing Philadelphia to steal a right-hander from their rivals who would become one of baseball’s best pitchers.

All these years later, the disrespect continues.

“I 100 percent believe he was snubbed from being an All-Star,” former Phillies star Jimmy Rollins said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “We’ve seen the guys they want to make stars come up and have five starts and become an All-Star because they have a name for themselves. Zack Wheeler has been doing it for a while and part of being an All-Star is having a reputation of being a great starter, that he is. He’s been Cy Young second place for a number of years. The guy over in Pittsburgh [Paul Skenes] is pretty good so we understand that.

“But for him to not be in the All-Stars, especially in this city, coming back with nine wins in the first half, that’s a pretty tough pill to swallow. And if I’m him I would be pissed.

“But I would want to make sure if I’m him, I’m taking it out on everyone who had a chance to vote me in.”

Hayden Panettiere Withdraws from Event Due to Urgent Matter

0

In an unexpected turn of events, Hayden Panettiere has pulled out of her scheduled appearance at a fan convention, a decision prompted by a pressing family emergency, according to exclusive information obtained by the Daily Mail.

The 36-year-old actress was set to make an appearance at Creep I.E. Aftermath, a popular event hosted in Ontario, the charming town in Southern California.

On Friday afternoon, the event organizers announced that the former child star could not attend, citing unforeseen circumstances. To accommodate fans, they quickly arranged for a replacement guest to step in.

‘Hayden Panettiere has an emergency and will not be able to attend this weekend,’ stated the organizers, expressing their anticipation of her participation in future events.

A representative for Panettiere informed the Daily Mail that her decision was influenced by a private family issue related to the health of an elderly relative, necessitating her priority shift.

Creep I.E. Aftermath has announced that Dominique Swain, who starred in Face/Off and as the title character in the 1997 film of Lolita, is filling in for her.

The development comes two months after Panettiere released her memoir This Is Me, in which she bared her soul on her past addictions, the travails of child stardom and her turbulent romance with her abusive ex Brian Hickerson.

Her autobiography also details her fraught equation with her mother Lesley Vogel, who used to be her manager but from whom she is now estranged.

In 2018, in order to devote herself to her recovery from her personal demons, Panettiere voluntarily gave up custody of her now 11-year-old daughter Kaya.

Kaya was handed over to the care of her father, Ukrainian boxing star Wladimir Klitschko, with whom Panettiere now shares an amicable co-parenting bond.

‘Not being under the same roof with her every day has been the most gut-wrenching experience of my life,’ Panettiere wrote in her book: ‘and it’s hard to describe the layers of emotion – including sadness, resentment, and anger – I’ve felt because of it.’

Panettiere struggled with alcohol and opiates until she finally achieved sobriety following an eight-month stint in rehab in 2020.

After contracting jaundice, she was informed by her doctor ‘that if I didn’t stop drinking, I’d be dead within five years,’ she wrote in the book.

When she entered rehab, she suffered intense withdrawal to the point that on one occasion she ‘heard voices that were so terrifying I got on all fours and crawled to my bathroom, where I lay on the cool, clean tiles and waited for the panic to pass.’

In 2024, fans theorized that she had fallen off the wagon when she slurred her words during an interview about her brother Jansen’s death the previous year.

Her representatives defended her sobriety in a statement saying: ‘Speaking about her brother for the first time was very emotional for her – and it had been a long and exhausting day for her. She was not under the influence,’ via Page Six.

Jansen had been found dead aged 28 at his apartment in February 2023 of an undiagnosed enlarged heart and aortic valve complications.

Panettiere first took up with Hickerson in 2018, when she was in the depths of her struggles with drink and opioids and had recently split from Klitschko.

Over the course of their turbulent relationship Hickerson faced multiple domestic violence charges, and in 2021 he served 13 days in prison for injuring her.

He announced in July 2022 that they had split, but from that November onwards they were glimpsed together repeatedly, igniting rumors of a reunion.

The pair were spotted together at LAX as recently as this March, two months prior to the release of her memoir, in which she offered a blistering account of their romance.

Shortly before publication, he publicly expressed ‘hope’ they might eventually marry, an idea she dismissed out of hand in a subsequent interview, via TMZ.

Typhoon Bavi Prompts Mass Evacuations for Close to 2 Million in China

0

On Saturday, over 1.8 million individuals were evacuated by China as Typhoon Bavi advanced towards Wenzhou, a significant eastern city, following its assault on Japan’s southern Sakishima islands, where it unleashed intense rain and fierce winds, while also skirting the northern coast of Taiwan.

Despite Bavi’s gradual weakening and slowing as it moves northwest across cooler waters, it remains a formidable threat, chiefly because of its massive capacity to retain moisture, stretching across areas as vast as France.

Clocking maximum sustained winds at 144 km per hour, comparable to a Category 1 hurricane as per the Saffir-Simpson scale, Bavi was positioned roughly 200 km southeast of Wenling in Zhejiang province as of Saturday night (AEST), based on data from the National Meteorological Center.

Projections indicate that Bavi will strike near Wenzhou, a metropolis of approximately 10 million residents, in the early hours of Sunday.

State reports disclosed that evacuations exceeded 1.7 million within Zhejiang province, where Wenzhou resides, and in excess of 100,000 in the neighboring Fujian province.

“I’m a little worried, but I think it’ll be OK. We’ve been through typhoons before. We’ll get through it,” said Wenzhou resident Huang Xinghuan, 50, who was out buying groceries at a traditional wet market before it closed ahead of the typhoon.

Huang said his family had stocked about two to three days’ worth of water. “I think supplies are well guaranteed now. There’s no need to panic or stockpile a lot of food or other supplies,” he added.

While Japan and Taiwan have not so far reported any deaths from the typhoon, 17 people died in the Philippines due to heavy rains brought by an enhanced southwest monsoon, worsened by Bavi’s impact.

Taiwan’s fire department said 87 people had been injured, mostly falls from motorcycles or bicycles, as well as people falling over or being struck by objects.

More than 18,000 households and facilities across Okinawa, Japan lost power as the typhoon pounded Japan’s remote southwestern islands, with the Miyako region hardest hit.

Japanese airlines cancelled dozens of flights, affecting more than 26,000 passengers.

“Miyako is taking worst of typhoon Bavi,” professional storm-chaser James Reynolds posted on X from Ishigaki on Saturday.

“Conditions on Ishigaki gale force with some overnight gusts to typhoon strength.”

Taiwan spared worst

In Taiwan, the government evacuated more than 14,000 people from mainly mountainous areas as the island shut down for the approach of Bavi to the north.

While Bavi did not make landfall on Taiwan, the government took precautions to prevent loss of life, given forecasts for almost 1 metre (3 feet) of rain in some areas.

Most of those evacuated were in areas in the north and east, with 920 international flights cancelled, effectively closing Taiwan’s main international airport at Taoyuan, outside the capital Taipei, as well as all 282 domestic flights.

Almost all cities and counties across Taiwan declared a typhoon holiday for Saturday, closing any offices and schools that may have been open on the weekend, though in Taipei some restaurants and convenience stores remained open.

The main north-south high-speed rail line also continued to operate, but with reduced service.

In downtown Taipei some people were still out on the street in blustery wind and rain.

“It’s OK, it’s not that serious,” said resident Yeh Mao-hsiung, 68, out for a morning walk with his dog. “It’s just a little bit more wind.”

But in Taipei’s Beitou neighbourhood in the foothills of the mountains surrounding the city, gusts of around 100 kph (60 mph) knocked down trees and swelled rivers.

In Wenzhou, Chen Qiuqin, in her 60s, walked through steady rain on her way to her parents’ home to help them prepare for the approaching typhoon but said she was not too concerned given the government’s preparations.

“I was worried about the flowerpots on my mother’s balcony, so I’m going to help move them inside. My parents are both elderly and they’re home alone, so I wasn’t at ease,” she said.

Vermilion Advantage Advocates for New Grocery Store After Recent Closure

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — In a move motivated by concerns over storm-inflicted damages and safety issues, the Danville County Market has decided to shutter its doors for good. In response, Vermilion Advantage is actively advocating for the establishment of a new grocery outlet.

Situated on North Vermilion Street close to the mall, the now-closed market leaves a gap that Amy Brown, CEO of Vermilion Advantage, is eager to fill. As part of the region’s economic development efforts, she is spearheading a proposal to bring a fresh grocery store to Danville.

This development follows discussions held on Friday with Niemann Foods, which owns the County Market brand. According to Brown, there’s evidence that locals prefer to shop for groceries within city limits, highlighting a robust demand that supports their initiative.

“Our grocery retail performance is notably strong, which suggests there is an attractive market opportunity,” Brown stated. She hopes this indicator might encourage County Market to reconsider their closure decision.

In the meantime, they suggest shoppers go to the County Market in nearby Tilton.

Robert Davi, ‘Die Hard’ star, launches passionate critique at NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani

0

Yippee ki-yay Zohran!

In a passionate online video, Robert Davi, best known for his role in “Die Hard,” sharply criticized Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Davi, expressing his frustration, accused the socialist Democrat of neglecting New York’s Italian-American community. This backlash followed the release of a City Hall map that highlighted various immigrant neighborhoods but conspicuously left out Little Italy.

The controversial map, named “New York City Immigrant Enclaves,” showcased numerous communities like Little Palestine, Little Egypt, and Little Africa. However, it overlooked historically significant Italian, Irish, and Jewish neighborhoods, sparking disapproval from various quarters.

Davi, 75, recounted his family’s history with noticeable emotion. He mentioned his grandparents’ migration from Sicily and Naples, emphasizing their encouragement to learn English in the land of their new beginnings. “This is America,” he proclaimed with a fervent sense of patriotism, “God bless America.”

Reflecting further, Davi shared stories of his grandfather’s service in World War I, where he was injured three times. Highlighting his family’s immigrant contributions, he asserted his grandfather had helped build New York City, embodying the resilience and dedication of Italian immigrants.

“I was born in Astoria, Queens, you jerk. I understand the lifeblood of New York City and the immigrant populations and all peoples.

Then he gave 35-year-old Mamdani — born in Kampala, Uganda — some advice.

Then he gave 35-year-old Mamdani — born in Kampala, Uganda — some advice.

“Go back to where you belong, Mamdani, go back to where you belong and run for office there,” thundered the actor, who lives in Apollo Beach, Fla., and played played FBI Special Agent Big Johnson in “Die Hard.”

Davi also ripped into Mamdani for skipping the traditional installation Mass for New York Archbishop Ronald Hicks at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in February 2026.

“And what you did to the Catholic Church by snubbing the Archbishop. You jerk,” Davi raged. “What you did, snub little Italy, and you wanna take down the statues.”

Only after catching some serious blowback from dozens of groups — including the Italian American Civil Rights League, which accused the mega-left-leaning administration of erasing Italian Americans — Mamdani said his administration now plans to add Little Italy, according to Fox News.

Davi’s scorched-earth rant quickly lit up X, where supporters cheered on the veteran actor.

“I agree with every word,” wrote one commenter on X. “Get rid of these scumbags.”

Another piled on: “As an Iranian; kick out Mamdani from office. He is very dangerous for USA and the rest of the world.”

“Amen. Stand for American Values or go stand on the line for the next plane out,” a third wrote. “He is a disgrace and should be removed. America for Americans.”

The mayor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
