US Issues Warning for Travelers to Turks and Caicos Amid Rising Sexual Assaults and Scams

0

With their pristine white beaches, the Turks and Caicos Islands have long attracted American tourists. However, U.S. authorities are once again cautioning travelers about safety concerns.

On Tuesday, the U.S. State Department revised its Level 2 travel advisory for this British Overseas Territory, urging travelers to exercise increased caution.

Renowned for their stunning turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs, the islands boast luxury resorts, while Grand Turk remains a favored stop for Caribbean cruise ships.

The advisory highlights that crime is most prevalent in Providenciales, the principal tourist hub of the Turks and Caicos Islands and home to the famous Grace Bay Beach.

Given that most tourists enter through Providenciales International Airport (PLS), the State Department has pointed out that the local police may face resource challenges in crime investigation.

“There have been reports of sexual assaults in the Turks and Caicos Islands,” the advisory states.

“Petty crime is common, especially in popular tourist locations.”

The State Department also warned Americans about specific scams that involve overcharging tourists in heavily traveled areas.

“You may encounter aggressive vendors,” the advisory noted. “Some will offer ‘free’ gifts that lead to money demands. Most sites have tourist police available to help in uncomfortable situations.”

The advisory also said that firearms and ammunition are banned on the Turks and Caicos Islands, and those laws are strictly enforced by police.

“This includes single bullets and cartridges brought by mistake in carry-on bags or luggage,” the advisory said.

“A firearm license or permit obtained in the United States or any other country is not valid in the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

The warning added, “Travelers may face arrest, jail time and heavy fines. … We cannot get US citizens out of detention.”

The State Department recommends that travelers avoid opening their hotel or residence door to strangers, use caution when walking or driving at night and avoid physically resisting if confronted during a robbery.

Fox News Digital reached out to the State Department for comment.

The warning comes amid a series of recent travel and security advisories from US officials.

Earlier in June, powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, prompting the State Department to update its longstanding Level 3 travel advisory.

The same month, the US Embassy in Jerusalem warned Americans that the security environment across the Middle East remained “complex” and could change rapidly.

Taylor Swift’s Controversial Wedding Outfit at Margaret Qualley & Jack Antonoff’s Big Day: Fans Weigh In

Although Margaret Qualley might have missed attending Taylor Swift’s nuptials, Swift made it to Qualley’s in 2023 when she wed Jack Antonoff. Yet, buzz around the event still centers on the singer’s controversial dress choice. While she didn’t don white, many argued that the shade was pale enough to resemble it. Quite the conversation starter!

Those who paid attention to Qualley and Antonoff’s wedding back then may recall that at the time, Swift’s blue frock looked downright bridal in the wrong lighting. Of course, some outlets were quick to share links to the Erdem dress to prove it was actually blue, and Swifties also rubbished social media posts that were some kind of a dig at the bride. “That’s just weird lighting, I bet it’s very obviously blue in person,” penned one fan on Instagram. “It’s definitely blue,” wrote another. That said, there were still some who noted that because of how it might photograph in some light, it wasn’t a great choice. “While it may technically be blue it’s way too light to be worn to a wedding,” someone said.

In the time since, some have continued to debate whether or not the dress was right for a wedding. Unfortunately for the “Fearless” singer, the chatter was amplified shortly after her own nuptials. Thing only got worse now that Antonoff and Qualley’s rumors were right all along and they’re splitting. On X (formerly known as Twitter), users poked fun at Swift’s dress having had an impact on the marriage. “This being one of the reasons why they’re divorcing,” one wrote, alongside a pic of the singer at the festivities nearly three years prior. As it always happens with Swift on X, it’s kind of giving the “She’s a witch” scene from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”

The internet can’t decide if Taylor’s dress was a faux pas

Fast forward to 2026, and Taylor Swift’s attire for the wedding of Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff remains a hot topic. Opinions are divided; some criticize the color and material as unsuitable for the occasion, while others suggest that misleading photos due to lighting shouldn’t be the final word.

“I don’t care that it’s technically blue it’s so pale and LACE as a mega celeb the least she could do is not wear something so bride adjacent,” an X user lamented. Sure enough, some experts are of the mind that anything that could remotely pass for bridal, which means lace detailing as well as anything close to white, is a risk for wedding guests. However, some disagreed. “There’s nothing wrong with wearing a blue dress or lace lmao it was a coastal wedding. If you wanna b***h about inappropriate dresses then go whack Lana for wearing white,” they pointed out. In fairness, Lana Del Rey actually wore a white dress (with pink flowers on it, but of the itty bitty variety) to the wedding, along with a white cardigan. At the time, that generated enough online attention for CNN to report on it. However, in the aftermath of Antonoff and Qualley’s separation, that doesn’t seem to have stuck out quite as much amongst those who keep track of celebs who’ve worn inappropriate outfits to other people’s weddings.

Unfortunately, whether the blue dress was a borderline bad decision or not, Swift seems to be held to seriously high standards, and several social media users pointed that out. “You guys will blame Taylor Swift for anything,” wrote one Instagram user. Is the “Anti-Hero” singer the reason for the couple’s split? Probably not. However, even if the truth about Antonoff and Qualley were to come out, we doubt that would change the haters’ minds.

Unveiling the Untold Stories of the Overlooked Migrants

0

Tulips have served as a vibrant connection for David Van Berkel’s family to their Dutch heritage for many years.

In Victoria, these flowers still thrive on the family farm. However, Van Berkel is concerned that another vital piece of his heritage is slowly vanishing — the rich language, captivating stories, and the shared history that has woven the fabric of Dutch Australian generations.

Van Berkel cherishes some of his earliest memories of his father’s flower farm, a legacy infused with a deep-rooted Dutch tradition. His family has cultivated tulips for as long as he can remember, both on Australian soil and back in their ancestral home, the Netherlands.

“When my opa [grandfather] first immigrated in 1950, he brought with him not only a love for flower bulbs but also went on to become one of Australia’s foremost tulip and hyacinth growers of his era,” he shared with SBS News.

Fields of colourful tulips growing in rows on a sunny hillside.

Remarkably, this legacy of floriculture blooms as brilliantly today as it did decades ago.

“Tulips are having a major resurgence and they’re very popular in our Dutch migrant community,” he said.

Van Berkel is the third generation to run the family’s farm at Monbulk, a town in Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges, and said gardening “runs in his blood”.

But while the flowers have endured, Van Berkel worries other parts of his Dutch identity have not.

A language lost

Like many in Australia’s Dutch diaspora, Van Berkel said aspects of his heritage are “slipping away”, particularly language.

I wish I learned to speak Dutch growing up. The Dutch language is slowly disappearing from our family and also from the district.

Van Berkel’s experience reflects a broader trend. Research by linguist Michael Clyne found Dutch Australians experienced one of the highest rates of language shift to English of any major migrant community in Australia, a change linked to post-World War Two assimilation, intermarriage, and rapid integration.

Census data also shows that while almost 382,000 Australians claim Dutch ancestry, only a minority of Netherlands-born Australians now speak Dutch at home.

A man wearing a navy sweater stands next to an older man wearing a peaked cap.

Nonja Peters, a historian and anthropologist at Curtin University, said under Australia’s assimilation policies, post-war migrants were encouraged to speak only English.

“Once children entered the school yard, they were Australian. No ESL (English as a second language), no help with anything, they just had to deal with it. It was a sink-or-swim education policy,” she told SBS News.

“At the time, the children were told that if they didn’t cope, it was their fault.”

They learned not to talk about their backgrounds. It was like they had no past basically.

For many migrant families, speaking English became a priority as they sought to fit into Australian society, often at the expense of maintaining their native language.

The hidden scars of war

For Peters, that history is more than academic. It is also deeply personal.

She arrived in Australia in 1949 as a young child with her parents. During World War Two, her father was taken by Nazi forces and sent to work in a steel factory in Strasbourg in Nazi-annexed French regions. Peters’ mother followed him.

“For 12 hours a day, they forcibly laboured in that steel factory under Nazi SS [Schutzstaffel] guns, to bolster the Nazi war machine,” she said.

A man wearing a hat stands next to a woman in jacket and a child holding a doll.

In 1948, Australia began accepting migrants under the Empire and Allied ex-Servicemen’s Scheme that offered assisted migration for former soldiers who had fought with Allied forces during the war. Peters’ parents were among them.

However, like many post-war migrants, she said they arrived “carrying the consequences of war, occupation, loss, abduction, forced labour, famine, incarceration and enforced family separation”.

“Yet they entered an Australia whose assimilation policies expected them to begin again as if those histories did not matter,” Peters said.

Most psychological suffering was either silenced, misdiagnosed, or blamed on the migrant themselves.

Despite these experiences, many Dutch arrivals became known as “invisible migrants” because they were widely seen as having integrated quickly into Australian society, according to Jill A’Vard from the Monbulk Historical Society.

For many, Australia also offered the opportunity to rebuild their lives and create a new future after the war.

Recovering hidden stories

Those stories are now the focus of an exhibition in Monbulk — From the Lowlands to the Ranges — a project spearheaded by the local historical society, where community members are working to preserve the experiences of Dutch migrants for future generations.

Jill A’Vard is also compiling the stories into a book to be released in August.

“Many early Dutch migrants here survived unimaginable hardships, living with no electricity or running water,” said Maria McCarthy from the Monbulk Historical Society.

“But compared with what they had left behind, Australia was still seen as an opportunity to take their families forward.”

A woman weaing a striped jumper stands next to a photo board with another woman in a back vest.

The van Horick family is among those featured in the exhibition. Gerry van Horick was just eight years old when his parents set sail for Australia in 1963.

Upon arrival, they were sent to the Bonegilla Migrant Camp in north-east Victoria.

Between 1947 and 1971, Bonegilla became Australia’s largest migrant reception centre, with more than 300,000 migrants passing through its gates.

A man wearing glasses and a blue checked shirt sits in front of a story board in a library.

For many migrants, including the Dutch, Australia offered opportunity but few comforts in those early years, van Horick said.

“The accommodation was very sparse, just enough for a bed. We had a communal kitchen where we used to eat, communal shower blocks,” he said.

Life changed for his family when the Van Berkels offered his father a job and a place to live.

“Dad joined the garden business at Monbulk, and for almost 14 years we lived in a house on their property,” van Horick said.

“It was a very big part of our early experience and migration journey.”

Stories like these are common among post-war Dutch migrants, Peters said.

“At the start, [Dutch business owners] hire from their own community, because they understand and trust each other. And trust is key to running a family business,” she said.

Carrying a legacy forward

Preserving Dutch heritage for future generations is also a focus for Van Berkel.

“We’re proud of our history and where we come from, and the impact of such a small country on the world.

It is really important that our children understand how we got to live in this lucky country, through the hard work of others.

Taylor Swift Sparks Speculation with Eye-Catching Ring at Friend’s Wedding

0

Taylor Swift debuted her stunning new wedding ring while attending a wedding ceremony with her husband, Travis Kelce, showcasing their newlywed glow.

The couple was among the guests at the nuptials of ex-Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and Laura Kruk, which took place at the picturesque Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Orange County, California on Friday.

Their attendance came just a week after they celebrated their own $50 million wedding extravaganza at the renowned Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The 36-year-old music icon and the NFL star, also 36, appeared publicly for the first time as a married couple, and cameras caught the enchanting sparkle of Swift’s wedding ring during the outdoor celebration.

One striking photograph captured Swift placing her hand over her heart as the couple shared their vows, her impressive ring gleaming. In additional shots, the large gemstone caught the sunlight as she embraced guests and enjoyed a glass of champagne.

The pop star complemented her new rock with a strapless pink brocade Markarian gown retailing for $4,115, finished with her signature red lip. Meanwhile, Kelce cut a sharp figure in a gray suit.

The pair walked into the ceremony hand in hand, still basking in marital bliss.

The wedding ring was an addition to the old mine brilliant cut diamond engagement ring which Kelce used to pop the question and which is valued between $550,000 and $1 million.

But it appears the Miss Americana star is still a bit shy about showing off her new bling so soon after her own celebrity-studded wedding.

Swift and Kelce jetted off from the Big Apple to the ultra-exclusive Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, where they enjoyed ‘complete privacy’ over the July Fourth weekend and the following days.

They were spotted arriving in California on Thursday after Swift’s private jet flew from Montana to Hollywood Burbank Airport. Daily Mail footage captured dozens of umbrellas opening to shield the couple as they disembarked the plane.

The pair then entered a convoy of vehicles that appeared to whisk Swift and her new husband to her Beverly Hills mansion, located 15 miles away.

Smith-Schuster’s wedding is expected to be just a brief interruption in Swift and Kelce’s romantic honeymoon adventures.

After celebrating the former football player’s nuptials, the couple is reportedly set to continue their honeymoon tour, with Greece and a wider European island-hopping getaway rumored to be on the itinerary.

Speculation has continued to swirl over the details of their lavish wedding celebration at the legendary Manhattan stadium, including what exactly the couple exchanged at the altar.

Last week, Sophie Lomax, Head of Design at Austen & Blake, shared her predictions with the Daily Mail.

‘We predict Taylor will likely choose a yellow gold wedding band to match her engagement ring. This warm, traditional metal is an enduring symbol of love and commitment,’ Lomax said.

‘Her engagement ring will likely determine her chosen karat, as it’s recommended that the two rings match,’ she added.

Lomax explained that the band may be vintage inspired to match her engagement ring.

‘Taylor’s engagement ring features beautiful detailing on the yellow gold band. It adds a romantic, almost whimsical touch to the design,’ the design head said.

‘A vintage-inspired wedding ring usually echoes these features with intricate designs and classic details that capture the romance of bygone eras,’ she added.

‘They’re ideal for those who appreciate historical beauty and rare styles. These rings offer a distinctive and enduring symbol of love.’

Swift and Kelce partied late into the night for their ‘rehearsal dinner’ with 100 of their closest friends, including Hadid, her partner Cooper, Selena Gomez and Jack Antonoff.

The following day, they exchanged 20-minute vows in front of a star-studded guest list that included nearly all of Kelce’s Chiefs teammates last week, though Page Six had previously reported that the couple had already married.

Their 1,000-guest ceremony came almost one year after they announced their engagement on Instagram last August, with the caption reading: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’

Kelce proposed in an intimate garden setting at his home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. They kept the engagement private for about two weeks before the public reveal.

Unlike her new wedding ring, Swift proudly showed off her engagement ring, a vintage-inspired old mine brilliant-cut diamond designed by Kelce alongside Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry in New York City.

Experts previously estimated the ring’s value to be anywhere between $1.3 million and $5 million.

According to Lubeck’s bio, the Neptune Beach, Florida-born jewelry designer is ‘a goldsmith, hand engraver, and vintage jewelry collector’ who now creates one-of-a-kind pieces in Manhattan.

In an interview with UK’s Heart radio station last year, Swift gushed about her ‘hardware upgrade’ and explained that she had shown Kelce a video of the designer back in 2024.

‘I had shown him a video [that] I just thought was so cool. I had shown him a video a year and a half ago, and he was just paying attention to everything, it turns out,’ the Opalite singer explained.

Swift revealed that she was left ‘gasping’ the moment she first saw the sparkler.

Texas DoorDash driver completes delivery despite being struck by fleeing suspect’s vehicle

Doing whatever it took.

In a dramatic twist to an already tense situation, a persistent DoorDash driver in Texas managed to complete her food delivery just after an encounter with a robbery suspect engaged in a high-speed police chase through local neighborhoods.

The delivery person, who remains unnamed, had parked near her customer’s residence in Houston’s Greater Greenspoint area on a Wednesday afternoon, with police sirens echoing nearby, as shown in footage provided to KRTK.

She exited her car with the customer’s order clutched in one hand, only to witness a silver sedan barreling down the street toward her, forcing her to quickly retreat to the side of her vehicle.

Even though she tried her best to avoid the speeding car, the suspect’s vehicle collided with her own before knocking her onto its hood.

The suspect, identified as Torrance Whitaker, raced out of his car towards the other side of the street, leaving the woman to gather herself alone.

The woman picked up the order that had been tossed onto the road and ran to the sidewalk as several police cruisers chased Whitaker.

As chaos rang through the neighborhood, the delivery driver nonchalantly walked to the front door of her customer’s home and dropped off the order.

“It’s amazing how the girl just delivered the food. I asked her if she was okay, and she said she was okay,” neighbor Lily Portillo told the outlet. “She needs a big tip. I really hope somebody finds her and hope she’s okay.”

Police launched a manhunt through the neighborhood looking for Whitaker, as one officer returned to the scene to check in on the woman.

“Yeah, I’m good,” she told the concerned officer.

The woman didn’t break any bones but was left in a lot of pain after the crash, the outlet reported.

She was looking into filing a claim against Whitaker’s car insurance for the damage to her vehicle.

She also filed a complaint against Whitaker with the Houston Police Department, alleging Torrance “unlawfully, intentionally, knowingly, and recklessly caused bodily injury” to her, according to court records viewed by The Post.

Whitaker, who was wanted for burglary, jumped over fences and through several homes’ yards before he was eventually stopped by a Houston Police K-9 unit.

Whitaker was charged with felony evading arrest and aggravated assault on the DoorDash driver, according to court documents viewed by The Post.

U.S. Extends Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and Syrians Amidst Ongoing Community Challenges and Protests in Chicago

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced on Friday the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians by two weeks, while Syrians were granted a brief one-week extension.

TPS provides individuals escaping natural disasters, conflict, or persecution the ability to live and work legally in the United States.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

The Obama administration first designated Haiti for TPS back in 2010 following a catastrophic earthquake. Syria was added to the list two years later as the country grappled with the onset of its civil war, which concluded in 2024.

The TPS for both Haitians and Syrians was originally scheduled to expire this past Friday. The impending expiration set off nationwide protests, including significant demonstrations in Chicago, home to large Haitian and Syrian populations affected by the looming loss of their legal status.

The new expiration dates for TPS are now set for July 24 for Haitians and July 17 for Syrians.

Affected individuals are at risk of deportation and may have already lost authorization to work and other privileges, including the ability to hold a driver’s license. Many of the hundreds of Syrian immigrants who call the Chicago area home are living in fear after losing their TPS protections.

ABC7 spoke with community leaders earlier Friday, before the extension was granted.

With TPS ending, affected individuals are at risk of deportation and may have already lost authorization to work and other privileges, including the ability to hold a driver’s lice

“There is a high level of frustrations, fear and uncertainty,” said Ali Tarokh, development, and communications director for the Syrian Community Network.

Tarokh said families are unsure what comes next.

“People are in limbo and they don’t know what’s going on to happen to them. So, the level of stress is high within our communities,” he said.

Nationwide, more than 6,100 Syrians and 350,000 Haitians could be impacted. In Illinois, about 260 Haitian families are affected following a federal ruling last month by the Supreme Court’s conservative majority, which sided with the Trump administration’s efforts to end TPS for immigrants from several countries.

Darryl Auguste, a member of the Coalition of Haitian American Organizations in the Chicago Land Area, said the impact extends far beyond those directly holding TPS.

“And also, when we say effect, it’s not just core effect, the actual Haitians with TPS, but the ripple effects regarding these mothers who have children, who are citizens, they are affected by that. Those children. So, it’s more than what we say in terms of numbers of just 350,000 across the nation. It’s much larger than that,” Auguste said.

According to the U.S. State Department, both Haiti and Syria remain under a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory. Advocacy groups say there has already been an uptick in immigration enforcement activity, prompting warnings for those who have lost TPS to prepare for possible encounters with authorities.

“We definitely advise folks to put together a family preparedness plans, make sure that they have, you know, their paperwork, all of their documentation in order,” said Fred Tsao, senior policy counsel with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrants and Refugee Rights.

Despite the uncertainty, advocacy groups say there is still hope. They are urging lawmakers to act on Senate Bill 4814, introduced last month, which would require the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to designate Haiti for TPS through January 2029. A similar companion bill has already passed the House with bipartisan support.

Taylor Swift Wardrobe Malfunction Steals the Spotlight at Former Chiefs Star’s Wedding

Taylor Swift experienced a wardrobe slip-up in a striking pink gown while attending the wedding of former Chiefs player JuJu Smith-Schuster alongside her husband, Travis Kelce.

The renowned 36-year-old Grammy awardee was seen with the NFL star, who is also 36, a mere week following the couple’s exchange of vows before a crowd of 1,000 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Swift and Kelce were among the attendees as Smith-Schuster married Laura Kruk at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, located in the heart of Orange County, California.

Video from the event captured the Love Story singer socializing with other wedding guests at the expansive location, adorning a strapless pink dress featuring floral accents and a voluminous skirt.

During a moment of conversation, the music icon suddenly lifted her hands to her chest in reaction.

She then gripped the sides of the ensemble to move the neckline higher up before briefly resting her hands on her chest again to check the dress was secure.

‘The bride and groom’s wedding ceremony looks have been created by Christian Dior Haute Couture.

‘They are designed by Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of Dior Women’s, Men’s and Haute Couture Collections, in close collaboration with the Bride and Groom,’ Paine shared.

‘This is the designer’s first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity. Their shoes were custom made by Christian Louboutin and the bride wore Cartier jewelry.’

Paine also revealed that Swift did not have bridesmaids and the NFL player did not have groomsmen for the ceremony.

‘Instead, her brother Austin Swift served as Taylor’s Man of Honor and Jason Kelce was Travis’ Best Man. The ceremony joined both families together and was officiated by friend Adam Sandler.’

Kelce’s brother Jason was in attendance and his daughters served as flower girls throwing white and pink rose petals around the bride as she walked down the aisle.

Sir Paul McCartney performed during the ceremony and sang lyrics to I Want To Hold Your Hand. Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks also sang during the wedding festivities on Friday.

A-list stars that received a coveted invite were also spotted heading to the venue such as Karlie Kloss, Hugh Grant, Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper and Dakota Johnson.

Swift’s wedding gown designer Jonathan Anderson recently broke silence on bringing the dress to life and working with the songstress for her special day.

‘It was a joy to work with her. We became very good friends,’ he recently said during an interview with WWD. ‘It’s an emotional thing doing someone’s wedding.’

AMC CEO, Adam Aron, had been a guest at the nuptials and had given details about Swift’s dress in a since-deleted post on X.

He said that the bride had worn a white wedding gown with a ‘long, veiled train’ and added the ensemble had been ‘stunning.’

However, some Swifties have voiced frustration that the performer has yet to share pictures of the dress.

Over on Reddit, one fan penned, ‘I want to see the dress she wore!’ while another typed, ‘I’ve been checking IG like crazy. I just know they’re going to be gorgeous!’

‘Come on, it’s been days. Give us something!’ one shared, and a social media user also said, ‘Not sure why it’s taking her so long. Is she waiting for a magazine to publish them first?’

Sources have told the Daily Mail that Swift’s wedding gown was off-the-shoulder and included a massive ’25-foot long’ train.

‘Taylor wore a big white dress that was off-the-shoulder and had a super long train. It looked to be 25-feet long,’ one insider said.

Another guest described the dress as ‘fluffy and white,’ while adding that the veil was made of lace and looked ‘pure romantic perfection.’

Venezia Secures €16M Transfer Agreement for Super Eagles Striker Adams

The Italian Serie A team, Venezia, has finalized a deal with Sevilla to acquire Nigeria’s international striker Akor Adams for a reported €16 million, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

This transfer marks a significant advancement in Adams’ career, following his resurgence in Spain after initially facing challenges in La Liga.

Move follows impressive turnaround

Adams transitioned to Sevilla from the French outfit Montpellier, but his early days at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium were difficult, marred by injuries that hindered his adaptation to the Spanish league.

However, the 26-year-old striker bounced back impressively in the 2025/26 season. He played a pivotal role for Sevilla, netting 10 league goals and providing three assists across 32 matches, thus cementing his status as one of the club’s dependable forwards.

His impressive performances caught the eye of several European clubs during the summer transfer window, and it was Venezia who acted swiftly to secure his services.

The Italian club have now reached a full agreement with Sevilla, with the transfer expected to be completed once the remaining formalities are finalised.

Venezia strengthen attack

Venezia view Adams as a key addition to their squad as they prepare for the 2026/27 Serie A campaign.

The club believe the Nigerian forward’s physical presence and goalscoring ability will strengthen their attack and improve their chances of competing in the Italian top flight.

For Adams, the move offers another opportunity to continue his development in one of Europe’s leading leagues after successfully overcoming the injury setbacks that affected the early stages of his spell in Spain.

The Super Eagles striker will also hope consistent performances at club level improve his standing in the Nigerian national team ahead of future international competitions.

If the transfer is completed as expected, Adams will become one of Venezia’s biggest investments in recent years, with the club banking on his recent form to justify the €16 million fee and make an immediate impact in Serie A.

California Burglary Bust: Suspects Allegedly Snap Selfies During $100K Heist

In a separate case in California, two men face accusations of stealing over $100,000 in goods, including tools, copper wire, and vehicles. Remarkably, authorities report that the suspects documented their alleged crimes by taking selfies during their burglary spree.

The stated thefts took place at a business located in American Canyon on July 6, as confirmed by the American Canyon Police Department.

Police responded to an emergency call reporting a burglary in the 1100 block of Green Island Road, swiftly arriving on the scene to investigate.

Authorities arrested Daniel Lemas, right, and Dennis Tylij

Investigators identified two vehicles connected to the burglary and shared the information with neighboring law enforcement agencies.

The following day, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office stopped one of the vehicles and detained the driver, who was identified as Daniel Lemas, 53, of Hayward.

Police said evidence recovered during the investigation included selfie photographs allegedly showing Lemas committing the burglary.

Lemas was arrested on charges of burglary and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on multiple felony charges stemming from the investigation.

On July 8, the Hayward Police Department stopped the second vehicle connected to the burglary and detained the driver, identified as 49-year-old Dennis Tylij of Hayward.

After responding to the scene, American Canyon police arrested Tylij, who was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on a felony conspiracy charge.

Giants Bullpen Stumbles Once More in Defeat to Rockies

0

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants’ bullpen often finds itself in trouble, even when things seem under control. A recent matchup against the Rockies continued to illustrate this pattern.

On Friday night, the Giants were just one inning away from securing a victory dominated by their bullpen against a fellow National League West rival. This would have marked their second such triumph in a week’s time.

Yet once more, their plans unraveled just shy of crossing the finish line.

Dylan Smith managed to regain his footing in a subsequent appearance. After allowing a decisive three-run homer in Colorado just five days earlier, Smith impressively navigated through a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the seventh inning, marking one of the most remarkable relief efforts by a San Francisco pitcher this year.

Later, Rafael Devers delivered a pivotal hit, granting the Giants a narrow lead late in the game. This had all the makings of a redemption tale for one of the league’s most beleaguered bullpens.

Turns out, there’s a reason these relievers aren’t considered reliable.

Tasked with closing out the one-run advantage, Caleb Kilian allowed the first three batters he faced to reach base, including a walk to pinch-hitter Troy Johnston, and allowed all three to come around to score in what turned out to be yet another agonizing loss, 4-3.

It was only made more painful by the false hope in the bottom of the ninth. Colorado closer Jordan Romano issued three walks, a confusing play went in the Giants’ favor upon video review and Rafael Devers made it a one-run game with his third RBI of the night.

But, even after Cole Carrigg was shown conclusively to have trapped a line drive off the bat of Casey Schmitt to load the bases with one out, Bryce Eldridge grounded out on the first pitch he saw from Romano’s replacement, Juan Mejia, who earned a one-pitch save for getting out of the fraught situation.

Dylan Smith escaped an even stickier jam, entering with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth, but four clean innings, it turned out, was too much to ask of this group of relievers.

That, however, was the situation manager Tony Vitello was facing when he came out to get Robbie Ray with nobody out and the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

Ray walked the first three batters of the inning, finishing five-plus innings with six in total, setting up Smith to enter just about the stickiest situation imaginable.

But, against all odds, he got Tyler Freeman to pop out on a first-pitch slider, worked his way back from a 2-0 count to strike out Willi Castro and benefited from the glovework of Luis Arraez, who cleanly fielded a sharp grounder off the bat of Mickey Moniak for the third out.

Kilian, on the flip side, pitched himself into trouble he couldn’t escape. He was handed the loss and a blown save, his third in 11 opportunities. He has allowed nine earned runs in his past six appearances, raising his ERA to 4.74 from 2.97 before his last blown save.

Last week at Colorado, Giants relievers had limited the Rockies to just one one over seven innings in the final two games of the series before Smith served up a three-run homer to Kyle Karros in their 7-6 loss. Once again, the dam proved incapable of holding.

What it means

Falling to 3-5 against the NL West’s perennial bottom feeders, the Giants have now lost as many games to the Rockies this season as they did in 2024 and 2025 combined (21-5).

Who’s hot

Devers was responsible for all of the Giants’ runs, leading off the second with his 19th home run of the season to put them ahead 1-0, and finished 3-for-3 with an intentional walk and a sacrifice fly.

The solo shot, which he golfed onto the arcade in right field, was his 17th homer in his past 58 games dating back to May 6, when he hit his third of the season. At the time, Devers was on pace for just 14 over 162 games.

Now, if he can slug one more in the next two games, he would become the first Giants hitter since Barry Bonds to go into the All-Star break with at least 20 home runs.

Who’s not

Ray continued to limit runs, yielding three or fewer for the sixth time in his past seven starts to lower his ERA to a rotation-best 3.38, but the way he got there was concerning.

He put six runners on base via walks, including the first three batters he faced in the sixth. Shockingly (or not), it was still one away from a season-high seven back on May 24.

The left-hander struggled to land his pitches for strikes most of his time on the mound, finding the strike zone on only 53 of his 100 pitches, and it eventually caught up to him.

Ray threw only one strike to each of the three batters he walked to begin the sixth.

The one walk by Kilian, however, came back to hurt them the worst.

Up next

Tyler Mahle will try to complete five innings for only the second time in four starts since returning from a hamstring strain. It will be a rematch from the last time he took the mound, also against the Rockies, who got to him for four early runs in an eventual 7-6 loss last week at Coors Field.
