Angus Taylor Justifies Liberal Senator’s Triple Zero Test Calls Amid Telstra Outage

0

Opposition leader Angus Taylor has defended Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson following her decision to test the triple zero emergency service during a Telstra outage on Wednesday.

Sarah Henderson, who serves as the Opposition’s communications spokesperson, attempted two calls to the emergency services number during widespread disruptions caused by the outage. The incident had thrown the entire country into disarray.

Under Australian law, making false calls to triple zero can lead to a maximum penalty of three years in prison. Henderson’s actions have drawn criticism from the Labor party, labeling the calls as irresponsible.

Australia’s leading telecom provider, Telstra, continued to face connectivity issues into the following day. These problems were exacerbated by a separate incident that made it difficult for some users to reach triple zero.

Although Telstra managed to resolve major issues by mid-morning on Wednesday, residual effects lingered, with several transport networks remaining slow or completely stalled into Thursday.

Early on Thursday morning, the company said overnight work had reduced the separate triple zero error by about 90 per cent. On Thursday afternoon, it said it had “implemented a solution” that had addressed the issue, and customers could feel confident calling triple zero.

‘Doing her job’

Taylor argued on Thursday that Henderson was doing her job as Coalition communications spokesperson and that her actions were not illegal.

“If [Communications Minister Anika Wells] hadn’t been absent for seven hours, Sarah wouldn’t have had to do these things,” Taylor said.

“These actions were not illegal and they were made necessary by complete and utter failure from this minister and that should be the focus of the press, and it should be the focus of the nation.”

The senator insisted she was within her rights to make the test calls on Thursday morning.

“I was simply, as the shadow minister for communications, making those initial calls to work out whether the … system was actually operating,” she told Sydney radio station 2GB.

“I accept the criticism, but what I will say is that I am in a unique position holding this government to account.”

Industry Minister Tim Ayres said making the calls at a time when the emergency phone network was being impacted was reckless.

“I was absolutely shocked by that revelation. I just say to Australians, don’t do what she did,” he told ABC radio.

“It’s utterly irresponsible. I just don’t know why anybody would do that, but I’d certainly say nobody should follow her example.”

Political ‘point scoring’

Telstra’s chief financial officer Michael Ackland said on Thursday that Telstra had completed more than 630 welfare checks during the outage for people who had called triple zero but failed to be connected.

Ackland said 230 had reported via SMS that they did not require a further response, 402 required follow-up calls and 170 of those were passed on to police.

Opposition regional communications spokesperson Anne Webster defended Henderson’s conduct, saying the test calls were necessary.

“She’s the shadow minister, she needs to know whether it works or doesn’t work … I would have thought that it was reasonable,” she told ABC radio on Thursday.

“People want to know. I mean, we’re a curious set of beings, aren’t we?”

Opposition defence spokesman James Paterson described the criticism levelled at Henderson as an attempt at point-scoring.

“This is an absolutely desperate attempt from the government to try and distract from their own failures,” he told Sky News.

“I understand why she did what she did. It’s certainly not an offence, and if the government was serious, they would have to put up or shut up here.”

The communications regulator is opening an investigation into Wednesday’s network outage, which experts have said exposed just how reliant critical infrastructure is on a handful of providers.

It is the third major national outage in less than a year for the $56 billion giant, which powers about 25 million Australian mobile services.

Kate Bush Earns £8 Million as ‘Running Up That Hill’ Tops the Charts

In a remarkable turn of events, Kate Bush generated a stunning £8 million from her 1985 hit “Running Up That Hill” after it soared to the top of the charts last year, a full 37 years following its original release.

This resurgence in popularity occurred after the song featured prominently in the fourth season of the Netflix supernatural series “Stranger Things,” catapulting it to number one in the UK and rekindling its international success.

Originally crafted by Bush for her renowned “Hounds of Love” album, the track also climbed to the top of the Australian charts and reached the number one spot on the iTunes chart in the US, indicating its widespread appeal across generations.

This resurgence in interest allowed Kate to triple her net worth, while simultaneously helping the song smash three Guinness World Records, underscoring its timeless allure and impact.

Bush achieved the distinction of being the oldest female artist to secure a Number One position in the UK’s Official Singles Chart. Furthermore, her song broke records for having the longest duration to reach Number One and the longest gap between Number One rankings on the UK’s Official Singles Chart.

She achieved a UK number one with her debut single Wuthering Heights in 1978, meaning there was a 44-year gap between to chart toppers.

Running Up That Hill reached number three in the charts when it was first released in 1985.

Kate’s company Noble & Brite Ltd brought in on £8.8million in 2022 and, even after £2.5m was paid to creditors, £6m was kept in net assets.

Her total equity tripled from £2m in May 2022 to £6.3m in May this year.

She paid more than £2.4m out in tax, according to her accounts filed with Companies House.

In the show, Running Up That Hill was grieving teen Max Mayfield’s (Sadie Sink) favourite song, and it unexpectedly saved her life in episode four.

The song reached the top of the UK charts in June last year after it appeared in the popular Netflix science fiction series and went viral on TikTok.

It was also the first time Kate had a number one in Australia since 1978, when her debut single Wuthering Heights claimed the top spot.

The singer-songwriter told BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour last year of the renewed interest in her music: ‘It’s so exciting, it’s quite shocking really, isn’t it?

‘The whole world’s gone mad!’

She added: ‘The thought of all these really young people hearing the song for the first time and discovering it is, well, I think it’s very special.’

The songstress also admitted that she hadn’t listened to her track in quite a while as she doesn’t tend to replay her ‘old stuff’.

Bonnie Tyler Celebrates Her Health Shortly Before Hospitalization and Passing

0

Bonnie Tyler expressed excitement about being in good health to perform shortly before she was admitted to the hospital and tragically passed away.

“I’m in good health at the moment, knock on wood, and I’m thoroughly enjoying my time on stage,” she said to Hello! in an interview published in March.

“I continue to rock out on stage with my wonderful band, and when you have your health, you truly have everything,” the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” performer remarked.

Tyler mentioned her fitness routine involves practicing Pilates for “20 minutes a day,” even if she’s just in her hotel room.

She also disclosed that she had surgery to address some issues she had been experiencing with her knees.

“I have had problems with my knees; I didn’t have new knees, I had what they call washouts [a surgical knee procedure], which turned out to be very successful,” she told the outlet.

“So, hopefully that will last for a long time,” Tyler added.

The “Holding Out for a Hero” songstress’s interview came five months before she died on July 8. Tyler was 75.

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in [a] hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” a spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday.

“We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy,” they added.

In April, Tyler was hospitalized after she began experiencing intense abdominal pain.

The “If I Sing You a Love Song” songstress had a serious tear in her bowel and had to undergo emergency surgery.

The following month, Tyler was placed in a medically induced coma after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal.

In June, her team revealed that she was out of the coma but said the “recovery process is slow.”

At the time, all of Tyler’s planned concerts had been canceled through August and her management released a statement thanking fans around the world for their “tremendous sympathy and support.”

Tyler is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Sullivan.

Lindsay Lohan Reconnects with Father Michael in a Special Birthday Reunion

0

Lindsay Lohan marked her 40th birthday with a heartwarming reunion with her father, Michael Lohan, in the picturesque setting of the Hamptons.

The father-daughter duo was spotted celebrating this significant milestone at the Le Bilboquet restaurant in Sag Harbor, New York. Michael, now 66, appeared prominently in an Instagram Story during the festive occasion.

The star of “Mean Girls” delighted her over 16 million Instagram followers by sharing a clip originally posted by her friend Ryan Roth. In the video, Lindsay is seen seated before her birthday cake, with Michael and other guests capturing the celebratory vibes.

Along with her father, Lindsay’s mother Dina, 63, and siblings Michael Jr., 38, Ali, 32, and Dakota, 30, were in attendance at the gathering, Page Six reported, as was her husband Bader Shammas, 40, who she resides with in Dubai with their son.

Addressing the party’s attendees, Lindsay expressed, ‘I have known from my past and where I am today. So many chapters of my life and all the things I have gone through and how far I have come.’

She continued with heartfelt words, ‘Some of you have known me since I was a little girl and some have become lifelong friends along the way. Every one of you has helped shape the person that I am today.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Lindsay for further comment on the story.

Among the other notable names in attendance at the Hamptons bash, sources told the outlet, included NBA icon Steph Curry and wife Ayesha, who struck up a friendship in Dubai through mutual friend, chef Michael Mina.

The party began with an outdoor cocktail reception prior to venturing indoors for a dinner, where the cake was later presented, sources told the outlet.

Lindsay and her father have dealt with ups and downs over the years, as they have been estranged for extended periods prior to their recent reconciliation.

Michael Lohan Sr.’s appearance at the birthday bash comes about three months after he suffered a series of health scares that landed him in the hospital on multiple occasions.

Michael had an artery blockage, which led to him having an angioplasty to insert a stent in his heart amid the serious situation, he told TMZ in May.

He said that after weeks of dealing with fatigue and shallow breathing, doctors detected the blockage and let him know he had to undergo surgery to correct the issue.

Following his discharge, Michael told the outlet that he passed out at his home and had to go back in for medical treatment.

Michael Sr. has been in the headlines in recent years amid a series of incidents with his estranged wife Kate Major, who filed for divorce from him in 2018. They are parents to sons Landon and Logan.

In April, Major had been taken into custody in Texas, in connection with allegations she threw a knife in Michael Sr.’s direction. It was one in a number of arrests she has piled up in the past 15 years, leading to a protective order Michael Sr. obtained against her following the recent arrest.

Lindsay previously acknowledged her birthday as she took to Instagram Thursday to share a note with her followers as she hinted at her troubled past and the ‘mistakes’ she has made.

The movie actress said in her post that she was grateful for the ‘lessons’ she has learned in life and also thanked the ‘people who’ve stood beside me.’

Her note began with ‘forty’ as she looked back on her four decades: ‘Grateful for every chapter that brought me here. For the lessons, the laughter, the love, the unexpected turns, and the people who’ve stood beside me through it all.

‘This next decade feels different. More grounded. More intentional. More joyful. Here’s to family, friendship, new beginnings, and making the most beautiful memories yet. Thank you for all the birthday love.’

Lohan also said she believes ‘your 30s are [when] things start clicking.’

Asked what advice she has for people entering their 30s, Lohan told People: ‘I’d say that this decade is yours.

‘I think there’s so much pressure around what you’re supposed to have to figure out by a certain age, but I don’t think that’s necessarily the right way to look at it. Your 30s are [when] things start clicking, and you should also take seriously how you want to set yourself up for your future.’

The Dubai resident described turning 35 as another ‘wake-up call moment.’

The actress reflected: ‘I don’t know that I’d say it’s between 30 and 40. For me, it can also be 35 and 40 … I think 35 is another milestone in a way because then you’re almost 40. You’re closer. So it’s like another wake-up call moment.’

Lohan – who married Shammas in 2022 – has learned the importance of appreciating her success and her family.

Asked what she’s learned over the last decade, Lindsay replied: ‘The value of time. That time is precious, and sometimes we forget time goes by so quickly that we should really enjoy every moment to its fullest.’

Lohan previously explained that while she’s a ‘very positive person’, she’s also learned to temper her enthusiasm. The actress admits that she’s learned an important life lesson thanks to her husband.

The Parent Trap star told People: ‘I’m a very positive person so I always expect everything to go the way it’s supposed to go.

‘My husband has taught me, “You have to be prepared for other things, so you don’t get disappointed. If this doesn’t go that way, then it’s okay.”‘

Lohan added, ‘And that’s really important to me because I never really understood the value of that.

‘You are your own vessel. If you don’t nurture yourself, anything can distract you in a second. Anything can take a turn.’

Lohan’s career has also been on an upswing as she starred in two hit Christmas movies which led to a Freaky Friday sequel. She is now filming the movie Count My Lies with Shailene Woodley.

Denmark’s World Santa Congress Celebrates Year-Round Festive Spirit

AALBORG – As Europe sizzles under the summer sun, the Danish city of Aalborg is channeling its festive spirit, offering onlookers a surprising sight that is more reminiscent of the holiday season.

In a charming blend of magic and mirth, scores of Santas, Mrs. Clauses, and elves from across the globe have gathered for the World Santa Claus Congress. This annual event is a well-loved midsummer tradition in Denmark’s fourth-largest city.

Originally held at an amusement park near Copenhagen in 1957, the congress shifted to Aalborg on the Jutland peninsula just two years ago. However, this time, the Santa suits proved a tad warm amid the Danish summer heat.

Next year, the congress will celebrate its 70th year, a testament to its enduring popularity. What began as entertainment for children has blossomed into a cherished convention for those who don Santa suits in malls and shops come December.

The event serves as the perfect platform for professional Santas — besides the legendary figure himself — to exchange amusing anecdotes, size up their beards, hone their skills, and partake in friendly competitions well ahead of the hustle and bustle of Christmas checklist-making.

The packed agenda features events like gingerbread eating, gift wrapping, balloon modeling, and several noisy parades.

“The grandmas say: ‘Oh, it’s too early to come here’,” said organizer Peter Gislund, himself a Santa Claus in Aalborg during the Christmas season. “The kids say: ‘Hooray! Santa’s here already’.”

Christmas as a state of mind, not just a season

Over the years, the annual four-day gathering has attracted Santas and Mrs. Clauses from as far away as Australia, Hong Kong, Canada and the United States.

Most of the three dozen or so Santas and Mrs. Clauses at the congress this week hail from Scandinavia, but some flew in — like Paradise Yamamoto from Tokyo.

“This is very fun, so many children … Ho, ho, ho!” said Yamamoto with a laugh after parading through Aalborg waving a Japanese flag and dancing to the song “Feliz Navidad” — one of many Christmas classics played during the event.

Robert Hercz, a 64-year-old Norwegian Santa from Oslo, said that despite their different nationalities, all Santas on hand share “a gene” — for generosity and spreading joy.

“You have it or you don’t,” said Hercz, who was attending the congress for the first time. “We have the true Santa spirit. And it’s all about giving, sharing, and putting a little bit of joy in people’s hearts.”

It’s not all ho-ho-ing and belly rubs.

“When Santas are together, they always mingle and talk a little bit,” said Gislund. “Maybe I put a little bit of sparkle in the beard and so on. That’s the good part of meeting some Santas from all over the world.”

For Simon Brøns, a 33-year-old Danish Santa, the event is proof that the festive spirit isn’t just for Christmas.

“Christmas is not a season. It’s a feeling you have in your stomach,” he said with a smile. “So if you want, you can have Christmas the whole year.”

Secret Service Advised Trump’s Departure from Turkey on Old Air Force One for Security Reasons, Sources Reveal

0

In a precautionary move amid escalating tensions with Iran, the Secret Service recommended that President Donald Trump depart Turkey using the older Air Force One instead of the newly upgraded aircraft gifted by Qatar. This advice was shared with ABC News by multiple informed sources.

Earlier in the day, the Qatari-donated plane had left the NATO summit in Turkey bound for Mildenhall Air Force Base in England. President Trump claimed the relocation was intended for military personnel to have an opportunity to tour the aircraft.

While addressing the media, Trump maintained that the decision to switch planes wasn’t linked to security issues. However, he noted that he considers himself a prime target for Iran, saying he’s “No. 1 on the kill list for Iran.”

According to two U.S. officials who spoke to ABC News, the decision to change the flight plan was not because of any direct threat. Instead, it pertained partly to the differences in the security features of the two aircraft.

The Secret Service’s recommendation was first reported by The New York Times. At the time of publication, the White House had not responded to ABC News’ inquiry for comment, and the Secret Service had also refrained from making any statements.

When the president ultimately left Turkey in the old Air Force One to link up with the new plane in England, passengers on the aircraft were instructed to keep their windows down during the flight, and according to flight data, the plane carrying the president did not turn on its tracker until it was over the Black Sea near Istanbul.

Massive Drone Attacks on Russian Oil Infrastructure Amid Moscow’s Diesel Export Ban

0

In a bold and expansive move this week, Ukraine ramped up its drone assaults on Russia’s maritime and energy infrastructure. Over a span of three days, these operations reportedly targeted 21 vessels, placing intensified pressure on Moscow’s fuel reserves and highlighting the increasing frequency and reach of such attacks on key Russian refineries.

These recent drone offensives underscore Ukraine’s burgeoning capability to conduct long-range strikes, showcasing a notable advancement in their military technology.

Amidst these developments, a significant diplomatic engagement took place on Wednesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President Donald Trump at the NATO summit in Ankara. During their discussions, President Trump indicated that America would facilitate Ukraine’s manufacturing of Patriot air-defense interceptors. The leaders also explored the possibility of a new drone agreement between the two countries.

In related events, dramatic drone footage revealed flames and smoke billowing from an oil tanker, reportedly empty, in the Rostov region. Ukrainian military sources confirmed that this was a result of their overnight drone attacks near the Sea of Azov, as captured in a video handout dated July 8, 2026. President Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of bolstering air defense as a top priority during his discussions with President Trump. Additionally, he mentioned that the two governments have initiated steps toward establishing a standalone drone agreement.

“Air defense is the priority,” Zelenskyy said. He described the emerging drone deal as “a very good beginning” and said he hoped to discuss additional details with Trump.

The timing allowed Zelenskyy to arrive at the summit with evidence that Ukraine’s domestic drone industry can threaten Russian assets far beyond the conventional battlefield.

Trump praised Zelenskyy as “very effective” and credited Ukrainian forces with successfully operating American weapons against Russia’s much larger military.

“He’s had the best equipment because he had our equipment,” Trump said. “But somebody has to use that equipment. And you have a lot of brave people that are using that equipment.”

Ukraine is increasingly forcing Russia to defend refineries, airfields, shipping routes and other infrastructure far beyond the front. Kyiv has not achieved a comparable breakthrough in the grinding ground campaign, and Russia continues to bombard Ukrainian cities. But repeated long-range strikes have begun disrupting fuel production and maritime logistics while imposing costs on parts of Russia that were once largely insulated from the fighting.

Moscow attacked by Ukraine drones

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces said nine Russian-linked vessels were struck in the Sea of Azov on Wednesday, bringing the number targeted over 72 hours to 21.

Commander Robert “Magyar” Brovdi said the targets included 19 oil tankers, a cargo ship and a ferry operating near Russian-occupied Crimea, according to East2West news agency. He described the campaign against the fleet as reaching an “industrial scale.”

Ukrainian and Russian officials confirmed that the overnight offensive targeted tankers, refineries, pipeline facilities and a military airfield across several Russian regions.

Ukraine says many of the vessels were part of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet and were being used to transport fuel to Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula Moscow seized and illegally annexed in 2014.

The maritime strikes were accompanied by attacks on the Saratov refinery and energy facilities in the Russian regions of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan. Russian authorities said one person was killed in Saratov.

Ukraine also said it struck the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Russia’s Voronezh region. The base has been used by Russian combat aircraft involved in attacks against Ukraine, according to Kyiv.

The latest wave followed a Ukrainian strike Monday on the Omsk refinery in Siberia, approximately 1,700 miles from Ukrainian-controlled territory. The facility is Russia’s largest oil refinery and processed about 460,000 barrels of crude per day last year, according to Reuters.

Two industry sources subsequently told Reuters that the Omsk facility had halted oil processing following the attack.

The disruption comes as parts of Russia face gasoline and diesel shortages attributed in part to repeated Ukrainian attacks on refineries and fuel depots.

Long lines have formed at filling stations in several cities, while some regions have introduced purchasing restrictions. Russia announced Wednesday that it was temporarily banning diesel exports through July 31 to protect domestic supplies.

The shortages have become one of the most visible ways the war is reaching ordinary Russians.

Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Kremlin-funded RT network, acknowledged the hardships during an appearance on Russian state television and urged Russians not to respond by challenging the country’s leadership.

“There is no petrol,” Simonyan said in a translated clip distributed by regional media.

Recalling food rationing after the collapse of the Soviet Union, she said: “We endured it. And we will endure it now.”

Simonyan argued that Russia’s enemies wanted the population to react as it had during the 1917 revolution and “run off to overthrow” the czar.

“Yes, it is hard, yes, very hard,” she said, urging Russians to remain calm.

The pressure on Russia’s energy infrastructure formed the backdrop to Zelenskyy’s Wednesday meeting with Trump at the Beştepe Presidential Compound.

Russia continued its bombardment of Ukraine during the summit, striking Kyiv and other cities with missiles and drones. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said storage facilities were burning in the capital’s Desnyanskyi district and reported another fire in the Sviatoshynskyi district.

Bonnie Tyler Delivers Powerful Last Performance of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ Before Passing Away

0

In a memorable and final performance, Bonnie Tyler passionately sang “Total Eclipse of the Heart” during what would be her last concert before her untimely passing.

The acclaimed Grammy nominee brought her powerful voice to the stage at London’s iconic Shepherd’s Bush Empire on March 19, captivating audiences with her mesmerizing hit.

Radiating joy as she delivered the iconic ’80s power ballad, Tyler engaged the crowd by extending her microphone for them to join in the chorus.

Appearing vibrant and full of life, Tyler dazzled in a glittering top paired with a sleek black blazer during her performance.

Though she had plans to grace the stage once more in Cardiff just two days later, the concert was delayed. By the end of April, Tyler faced a serious health challenge, leading to her hospitalization in Faro, Portugal, due to a severe bowel tear.

Tyler, born Gaynor Sullivan, underwent emergency intestinal surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma due to complications from the procedure.

When doctors first attempted to bring Tyler out of the coma, she went into cardiac arrest — but was ultimately awoken in June.

However, the “Holding Out For a Hero” hitmaker’s team clarified that she was still “seriously ill” and had a “slow … recovery process” ahead of her.

On Thursday, news broke of Tyler’s death at age 75.

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” a spokesperson said.

“We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy,” the statement concluded.

Just ahead of her health scare, Tyler gushed to Hello! magazine about being “fit enough” to perform “at the moment.

“Touch wood,” she quipped. “I’m really enjoying doing the shows. I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”

Tyler, who is survived by husband Robert Sullivan, had been scheduled to embark on a European tour in May.

Her cause of death remains unknown.

Undocumented Migrant Accused of Fatal Incident as Concerns Over Biden’s Border Policies Persist

0

The tragic events unfolding along the nation’s Southern border continue to highlight serious concerns about immigration policies. Under the current administration, every community now faces challenges previously considered unique to border towns, as far-reaching effects spread nationwide.

On June 29th, in Coldwater, Michigan—a town nestled between the bustling cities of Chicago and Detroit—an altercation at a pork processing plant ended in tragedy. A 20-year-old employee reportedly became involved in a heated dispute and, instead of de-escalating the situation, allegedly resorted to lethal violence. Valmir Djempsley, identified as an illegal immigrant from Haiti, is accused of fatally stabbing a co-worker. Authorities state that his entry into the United States was facilitated by catch-and-release practices implemented by the Biden-Harris administration.

In a recent development, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the murder suspect arrested for the fatal stabbing at a Michigan meat processing facility is indeed an illegal immigrant from Haiti. Valmir Djempsley reportedly entered the U.S. through the Texas border in 2024, under the current administration’s policies. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have since placed a detainer on Djempsley, who now faces murder charges.

DHS statement:

“This illegal alien barbarically stabbed his coworker to death,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “This murderer was released into American communities by the Biden Administration. If it weren’t for the reckless open border policies of the Biden Administration, this criminal never would have been in our country in the first place and his victim would still be alive. We have lodged a detainer asking Michigan to not release this dangerous criminal from jail without notifying ICE.”

According to a complaint filed in Branch County’s 3-A District Court, Coldwater police responded to a reported stabbing at The Clemons Meat Processing Plant, 572 Newton Road shortly after 7:41 p.m.

The victim [Brandon Eduardo Vasquez-Chavez] was found unresponsive with a single stab wound to his lower back. Despite lifesaving efforts, Vasquez-Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:19 p.m.

Djempsley was detained by Branch County Sheriff’s Sgt. Paulino Hernandez after witnesses identified him as the suspect.

Multiple witnesses told investigators that Djempsley and Vasquez-Chavez had been involved in a verbal argument moments before the stabbing. Witnesses reported seeing Djempsley confront the victim about a knife, then chase him and lunge toward his back with the weapon in a production area of the plant.

After Djempsley was Mirandized, he allegedly admitted that he argued with the victim and used the weapon, but claimed it was because he was head-butted. That part was not corroborated by witnesses. There could be security cameras in the processing plant that may confirm the eyewitness accounts, and police are in possession of the knife.

Gov. Mike DeWine Bemoans Damage to Ohio’s Economy and Communities After SCOTUS Ends Haitian TPS. Really?

Djempsley appeared in court and entered a not guilty plea on Wednesday. Bond was denied due to public safety concerns and flight risk, Judge Weigle also noted Djempsley has an ICE hold.

He is scheduled for a preliminary examination on July 10 at 9:30 a.m. Open murder carries a possible life sentence under Michigan law. Djempsley remains in custody at the Branch County Jail.

Republicans like Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Rep. Mike Lawler (NY-17) decry the revocation of temporary protected status (TPS) of Haitians and how this will be a loss of good workers and a detriment to the economy. Lawler is still pushing legislation to try to keep them here, claiming that the crime, drug trafficking, and fractious conditions in Haiti are too dangerous to send them back.

While I have never disputed the ability of the President to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS), I strongly disagree with ending Haitian TPS at this time.

First, the situation on the ground in Haiti is a humanitarian and political disaster and continues to warrant an extension. The State Department has a level 4 travel advisory telling all Americans to evacuate and not travel there precisely because the gangs are in charge of the country, engaged in gun and drug trafficking, and kidnapping innocent Haitians. We want to root it out and allow for a stable government to be establish with a free a fair election, creating the conditions for a safe return for Haitians.

Second, of the 350,000+ lawful Haitian TPS holders, roughly 1/3rd work in our healthcare system. Immediately shutting off TPS will create a crisis in our hospitals, nursing homes, and in the I/DD community.

I’m asking the administration to allow for an orderly process by which Haitian TPS holders can maintain their work authorization while their immigration cases are adjudicated over the next six months, if the revocation of TPS moves forward.

Furthermore, I believe the Senate should take up my legislation with Congresswoman Gillen to temporarily extend Haitian TPS to address these issues.

One can argue that these men are not representative of the purportedly hardworking Haitians that Lawler and DeWine are trying to protect. But evidence to the contrary continues to add up the more of these murders and accidents unfold.

And what of the victims’ families? The Florida Bangladeshi woman who in April was bludgeoned to death, allegedly by a TPS Haitian, Rolbert Joachin, leaving two children without a mother. Or the family of Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira Jr., who on July 1 was run over, allegedly by Haitian illegal alien Michael Bon. These are the most recent crimes allegedly perpetrated by Haitian illegal aliens and TPS Haitians, not including the criminal gangs and the fraud rings occupying the attention of the FBI and the Fraud Task Force.

Did this latest victim, Brandon Eduardo Vasquez-Chavez, have family? We may never know. But to lose one’s life over supposedly being head-butted borders on senseless, which explains to a “T” the actions of the prior administration and the broken immigration system, which only served to facilitate and further these tragedies.

Rock Icon Bonnie Tyler Passes at 75: Mourning a Legendary Voice

In a startling turn of events, Bonnie Tyler passed away at the age of 75. This came just weeks after she suffered a cardiac arrest post-surgery, which led to her being placed in a medically induced coma.

The celebrated Welsh singer, whose birth name was Gaynor Hopkins, left us just a few months following a critical stay in intensive care due to emergency intestinal surgery complications.

Her grieving family and management shared the devastating news on her official website Thursday, revealing that she passed away in a Portuguese hospital.

Renowned for timeless anthems like “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” and “Holding Out For A Hero,” Bonnie was preparing for an upcoming European tour when her health sadly deteriorated.

The announcement conveyed: “Bonnie’s family and team are deeply saddened to confirm that Bonnie unexpectedly left us last night in a hospital in Portugal due to the illness she had been battling.”

Bonnie was first admitted to hospital in May to be treated for emergency bowel surgery and a perforated intestine after a burst appendix.

A spokesperson for the singer confirmed at the time: ‘Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please.

‘We will issue a further statement when we are able to.’

Bonnie’s last public performance was in March, when she performed at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.

Following news of Bonnie’s death, many fans rushed to the star’s final Instagram post, which took on a poignant new meaning in the wake of her death.

The Instagram post was a clip of MP Carolyn Harris asking the Leader of the House to join her in wishing the Welsh singer well after news broke in mid-May that she’d been hospitalised.

Bonnie had also shared her excitement that she was involved in an original song, One World One Home, for the documentary Homeless.

Posting the film’s trailer on her Instagram, Bonnie said she was ‘grateful’ for the chance to perform on the soundtrack.

Vernon Kay also paid tribute to Bonnie on BBC Radio 2, before playing her famous track Holding Out For A Hero.

He said: ‘Sad news that Bonnie Tyler has passed, so from us on mid-mornings on BBC Radio 2 and everyone on Radio 2, our thoughts are with her family.’

Many fans paid tribute on X, writing: ‘Such sad news about Bonnie Tyler. She was always one of those ”what you see, is what you get” pop stars. The big voice, the big hair, big 80s production matched her personality – larger than life, yet down to earth. Farwell to one of Wales’ finest performers.

‘RIP Bonnie Tyler, thank you for giving us the best Nicholas Galitzine scene ever, Jeff singing to Total Eclipse Of The Heart in Bottoms is iconic.

‘Dear Bonnie Tyler, thank you for you magnificent voice, the big smiles, the huge joy you have brought to us over the years. What a gift.’

Bonnie was due to perform at the Sunshine Festival in Worcester this summer, along with a number of European dates, and was also booked to perform at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on December 17.

It was first reported that Bonnie had started feeling unwell in May.

She had been bedridden for two days at her Algarve home before her worried husband Robert Sullivan took her to the private hospital she was seen at before being transferred to Faro.

The singer, who has had multiple hits in her long career and competed at the Eurovision Song Contest representing the UK in 2013, is believed to have been rushed to hospital on April 30.

A day earlier, when her health woes first emerged, the spokesman had said: ‘We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery.

‘The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.

‘We know that all of her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.’

She was said to have been ‘stable’ in an intermediate care unit at Faro Hospital before an apparent worsening of her health led to her being transferred to intensive care.

On June 15, the singer’s team said she had woken up from a medically induced coma after suffering a cardiac arrest in Portugal a month previously.

They said at the time: ‘Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains seriously ill. Although her condition is improving, the recovery process is slow.’

Sources said she had been maintaining her professional activity in the run-up to being taken to hospital, despite complaining of persistent pain for several weeks.

Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops pumping blood, causing it to stop beating and disrupting oxygen flow to the body and brain.

It causes instant unconsciousness and collapse. Immediate action involving starting CPR and using a defibrillator where available is essential to prevent death.

A ruptured appendix is a severe medical emergency requiring immediate surgical intervention and antibiotics to prevent fatal infections.

When an infected appendix ruptures, it creates a hole and causes fecal matter and bacteria to leak into the abdominal cavity.

The Welsh songstress was due to start her European tour later this year.

Speaking in March, Bonnie spoke about pain she’d been having in her knees, which at the time were her only real health concerns.

She told Hello!: ‘I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows.

‘I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.

‘I do home Pilates, only 20 minutes a day – it’s something I can do in my hotel rooms.

‘I have had problems with my knees; I didn’t have new knees, I had what they call washouts [a surgical knee procedure], which turned out to be very successful. So, hopefully that will last for a long time.’

Bonnie and property developer Robert split their time between their homes in Portugal and south Wales.

She first bought a property in the Algarve in the 1970s having fallen in love with the region while recording an album.

In 2009, she knocked down her five-bedroom villa in Albufeira to build a full-frontal glass home with elaborate garden water features.

Speaking about the area, she said: ‘It’s a magical place where you could sail out to sea at midnight and enjoy a barbecue and return to shore in the early hours of the morning to find the local bars still open.’

Bonnie and her husband, who is a former Olympian Judo athlete, also owned a number of rental properties in Portugal.

Speaking to the Mirror last year, she said: ‘I started singing when I was 17 and I never thought I’d still be doing it at this age. I’ve slowed down a little bit, but I know now that I will never retire.

‘Even though I was so lucky because I was in Portugal when the first lockdown was announced, by the end of it, I’d had enough. I was going crazy. I needed to get back out there on the road!’

Bonnie previously told the Daily Mail that she inherited her love of music from her mother but it took her a while to overcome her shyness to perform.

She said: ‘My mother, Elsie, was a big part of why I became a singer. She had the most beautiful voice; she sounded like Maria Callas.

‘I inherited her love of music. But I had no confidence. She used to say to me: ‘Believe in yourself because no one else is going to do it for you.’ But it took me a long time.’

Tyler was born – as Gaynor Hopkins – a coal miner´s daughter in public housing with an outside toilet in Skewen, Wales, about seven miles (11 kilometers) outside Swansea. She grew up with three sisters and two brothers.

She adored the Beatles and her first album was A Hard Day´s Night, and she previously shared the first song she bought was Hippy Hippy Shake by the Swinging Blue Jeans at 13 and watched Top of the Pops religiously, according to her memoir, Straight From the Heart.

Bonnie shared she would record Top of the Pops on a reel-to-reel two-track recorder and write down the lyrics of songs she loved.

‘I used to sing them into my hairbrush for hours and hours, and that´s how it all started for me. I fell in love with singing just from doing that.

‘Looking back, even then my voice had a husky tone to it, but I didn´t think much of it. I thought everyone´s voices were different from each others,’ she wrote.

Bonnie was entered into a local talent competition by her aunt as a teenager and became inspired to pursue a career in singing.

At first she found work as a backing singer for various bands and changed her stage name to Sherene Davis to avoid being confused with Welsh folk singer Mary Hopkin.

Bonnie was then discovered by a talent scout at a club in Swansea and signed a record contract with RCA, which led to her releasing her first single, Lost in France, in 1977.

That same year she developed vocal cord nodules and was forced to undergo surgery, and the star feared she’d never sing again.

Luckily, Bonnie recovered well and her first major hit, It’s A Heartache, went to number four on the UK singles chart and three on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Bonnie was then booked as a support act for Tom Jones off the back of her music success, and like the Sex Bomb star, she has expressed pride at retaining her Wlesh accent, following fears she would need to have elocution lessons.

She told The Times in 2025: ‘I had some elocution lessons but now I’m delighted that I’ve kept my accent and that Tom Jones did too.’

Bonnie’s second album, Natural Force was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, and she then left RCA to join CBS/Columbia in 1982.

Bonnie went onto find huge success in mainland Europe during the 1990s, and in recent years has focused on touring the world performing all of her biggest hits

Her biggest hit was Total Eclipse of the Heart, which topped the chart on both sides of the Atlantic in 1983 and earned her a Grammy nomination.

The song spent four weeks at No. 1, and when Stereogum reevaluated it in 2020, the music outlet declared it an ‘extinction-level event rendered in musical form.’

‘It´s pop music as heart-pounding, chest-thumping, blood-gargling, heavens-falling passion explosion. It´s sheer spectacle. It´s fireworks and lasers and lightning and thunder. It soars and swoops and barrel-rolls,’ the site said.

Bonnie worked with Meatloaf songwriter and producer, Jim Steinman, and he borrowed one of the song´s lyrics – ‘Turn around, bright eyes’ – from his 1969 musical The Dream Engine.

‘Jim liked to put down a basic rhythm track, do nine takes of the song, choose the best one and then put the kitchen sink on there, like Phil Spector used to,’ Bonnie told The Guardian in 2023.

‘He gave me a cassette to listen to in my hotel and we both preferred take two.’

The song became a pop culture fixture and was covered by the English singer Nicki French in 1995, and the band Westlife in 2006.

Cate Blanchett sang it while hitting Billy Bob Thornton with her car in 2001’s Bandits, it appeared in a wedding scene in 2003’s Old School and Jennifer Saunders performed the song in 2004’s Shrek 2.

Her fifth studio album, Faster Than The Speed of Light, debuted at No. 1 on the UK albums chart and sold more than one million copies in the US.

Bonnie went onto find huge success in mainland Europe during the 1990s, and in recent years has focused on touring the world performing all of her biggest hits.

Faster Than the Speed of Night earned a Grammy nomination for best rock vocal performance – losing to Pat Benatar´s Love Is a Battlefield – and Tyler got another nod for Total Eclipse of the Heart in the best pop vocal performance category, losing to Irene Cara’s Flashdance – What a Feeling.’

Tyler never reached such dizzying heights again but stayed current with such movie soundtrack singles as Holding Out For a Hero – from 1984’s Footloose – and Here She Comes from Metropolis, also in 1984.

Her 2019 disc Between the Earth and the Stars featured duets with Rod Stewart, Cliff Richard and Status Quo´s Francis Rossi, and she ended that year performing a Vatican Christmas concert before Pope Francis.

Her final studio album was The Best Is Yet to Come, which was released in 2021.

Last year, she teamed up with producers David Guetta and Hypaton for a club version of Total Eclipse of the Heart called Together, and earlier this year, the original version passed a billion streams on Spotify.

She said at the time: ‘I’m really happy, when you think about it, there’s only 8.3 billion people in the world.’
