Scorching Heatwave Sweeps Across US, Shattering Records Before Independence Day

0

HILL CITY, Kansas/CHICAGO/NEW YORK — This Wednesday, sweltering record temperatures have extended from the Midwest to the eastern United States. These heat warnings could affect millions through the July 4 holiday weekend, coinciding with America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

Forecasters predict that the intense heat will drive “real-feel” temperatures to range between 100 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 to 46.1 degrees Celsius) in many areas. This surge poses a heightened risk of heat-related illnesses among vulnerable groups and may strain power grids already under pressure from increased demands by data centers and electric vehicle usage.

In the small high plains town of Hill City, Kansas, situated 270 miles east of Denver, Sabrina Hooper faces the challenge of working as a mail carrier amidst these extreme temperatures, having just started the job a week ago.

“The heat is absolutely crippling,” shared Hooper, 34, who spends her days traversing up to 10 miles to deliver parcels. Fortunately, she finds some respite from sprinklers: “It’s delightful. I can remove my hat, let it soak, and put it back on.”

Back in 2012, Hill City held the title of the hottest location in the U.S. for five consecutive days during another extreme heatwave, with heat indexes soaring to a blistering 108 degrees.

The heat index measures how it feels when humidity is factored into the air temperature.

Dana Robles, who lives in Brownsville, Texas, a city just off the Gulf Coast at the US-Mexico border, worried on Wednesday about the mounting costs of cooling her home as the heat index rose to 108 degrees. During peak temperatures, her family’s monthly power bill can exceed $300, which is nearly one-third what they pay for rent.

Robles also fears blackouts due to the overtaxed power grid.

“I’m scared the electricity is going to go off all day and our food is going to get spoiled,” she said.

In Chicago, high-school science teacher Michelle Klein, 57, had started preparing for the heat over the weekend. She filled her car with gas, did her weekly grocery shopping early, stocked the refrigerator with extra cold drinks and gave her plants a deep soak.

“The basil was being a diva and needed another drink of water this morning,” Klein said on Tuesday evening after going on her usual evening walk despite the 103-degree heat index.

In the city’s suburbs, property investor Amy Kaspar got an urgent call Monday night from a tenant whose air conditioner ‌was only blowing out warm air.

Kaspar discovered that the appliance was working fine – it simply could not keep up with cooling the tenant’s unit, given the intense heat and humidity.

“Combined with the wind, it feels like standing behind the exhaust of a bus right now in Chicago,” said Kaspar, 50.

Cooling centers and check-ins

Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications urged residents on Wednesday to periodically check in with relatives, neighbors, seniors and other vulnerable populations. If contact cannot be made, the office said, Chicagoans can request a well-being check from the city by calling 311.

The scorching US temperatures mirrored those in western Europe, which recently has been engulfed in its own record-breaking heatwave, an event scientists said would have been “virtually impossible” without human-caused climate change.

Scientists have confirmed through years of studies that greenhouse gas emissions are making heatwaves around the world both more likely and intense.

The extreme heat only began creeping into New York City as of Wednesday morning, by which point the city had opened hundreds of cooling centers and deployed more than a dozen “cool vans” equipped with water, electrolytes, sunscreen and meals for New Yorkers in need of relief, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said at a press conference.

Air conditioning was on full blast at a senior center in Harlem on Wednesday, where a sign in 13 languages advertised the space as a “cooling center” for the public.

The senior center’s director, Richard Allman, said it would remain open beyond its usual hours over the July 4 weekend.

“We try to make this a comfortable place for people on an extra-hot day,” he said.

Ahead of the heatwave, city leaders had asked operators of signs in the city’s iconic Times Square to reduce the brightness of their billboards to lower energy consumption, and requested that businesses set thermostats no lower than 78 degrees.

The city’s energy provider, Con Edison, urged customers to limit energy use from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The city has also extended public pool hours, opened additional cooling centers in libraries and municipal buildings, and expanded street outreach efforts.

Florida Attorney General Calls for Judge’s Impeachment After Controversial Baby Drowning Ruling

0

Florida’s Attorney General, James Uthmeier, alongside several local legislators, is attempting to impeach a judge following his controversial acquittal of a woman through an unprecedented COVID-related insanity defense.

Circuit Judge Miguel de la O, sitting in Miami-Dade, acquitted Precious Bland, who faced charges of manslaughter and attempted murder after allegedly drowning her young daughter and attacking her husband and another child with a knife.

Defense attorneys for Bland argued that she had a psychotic episode triggered by COVID-19, rendering her incapable of comprehending her actions. Their case centered on claims that Bland experienced hallucinations and felt compelled to ‘baptize’ her family, believing it was a divine instruction.

According to a police report accessed by News Media, during the incident in 2021, Bland was reportedly shouting proclamations that “Jesus Christ is coming, and COVID will end us all,” as stated by her husband to the authorities.

“The defendant insisted that everyone needed to be baptized and that she was going to baptize everyone in the bathtub,” the report read.

The police report details a harrowing scene where Bland instructed one of the children in the home to retrieve a knife, but the child claimed to not know why.

Bland then allegedly stabbed her husband several times during a struggle, and he “along with his four other children, ran out of the residence in fear for their lives and he contacted the police,” the report read.

Bland’s older daughter, in an attempt to grab the baby away from the defendant, “sustained a stab wound to her forearm during the struggle,” the report continued.

The girl “then ran out of the residence in fear for her life. Officers arrived on the scene, made entry into the residence, and placed the defendant into custody,” the report said.

Officers located the baby “face down, unresponsive, inside the bathtub filled with bloody water,” according to the report.

De la O sided with the defense, acquitting Bland on all three counts and allowing her to return to her home ahead of a future hearing to decide on her treatment options. Uthmeier called the judge’s decision unacceptable.

“In a bench trial — where the judge made the decision, not a jury — he allowed a woman off on an insanity defense after she drowned her baby. He cited insanity related to COVID. This is unacceptable,” Uthmeier told News Media in an interview.

“I believe we have impeachment provisions in our state constitutions for a reason. The federal government has similar authorities, but we don’t see judges getting impeached in modern times. So, I believe this is wrong. We’re going to be pushing hard to work with our legislature to hold some of these judges accountable. I believe they’re violating their oath and endangering our citizens,” Uthmeier told News Media.

Uthmeier also revealed that he was exploring impeachment options for a number of other judges as well, disclosing to News Media that he was working with other Florida legislators on the matter.

“I’ve already had some Florida legislators reach out, excited to work with me on articles of impeachment, and hopefully get some of these dangerous people off the bench,” he told News Media.

“We have taken a big interest in judges that we believe are exceeding their authority, abusing discretion, or acting in a way that jeopardizes public safety. We’ve already called for impeachments in a couple of other judicial cases: a judge in Tallahassee who let a convicted child predator go free — a guy where a jury found him guilty of a child sex offense, and he then murdered his five-year-old stepdaughter. There’s a case in Miami where a judge let the defendant out on bail after he shoved rocks in a girl’s mouth as she was being raped,” Uthmeier explained.

Bland’s attorney, Larry Handfield, said he believed the ruling was the first successful COVID-related insanity defense in the country.

“This was COVID,” Handfield told NBC6 South Florida.

“It’s a woman who served our country for five years,” he said, referring to Bland’s five years in the U.S. Navy.

Handfield said she was “living the American dream until COVID came. She didn’t ask for COVID.”

Uthmeier also said he believed this was one of, if not the, first ruling of its kind.

“I am not aware of this having happened before. I certainly have not read through all of the transcripts from the proceeding, but to me, anybody who drowns their daughter should not be released. To the extent that insanity is going to weigh in on things, I believe it should factor into where you are housed for your incarceration, not give you a ‘get out of jail free’ card where you’re just allowed to walk scot-free and put other people in danger. If somebody truly has serious mental defects where they need treatment or help in some way, so be it, but they should get that help behind a barred hospital — some sort of mental institution where they are confined and not able to go free and walk the streets again,” Uthmeier said.

The Florida attorney general also said he believed the ruling was part of a “national trend” of federal judges overstepping.

“I think all of us as leaders in this country need to wake up and realize that the impeachment and removal of judges is something under the Constitution that can be pursued. And until we do it — until we reject their abuse of authority — they’re going to continue to have credibility when they do these wayward things. So, I’m going to be pushing impeachment very often and loudly over the next year,” he concluded.

The court appointed forensic psychologist Dayra Bodan to determine whether or not Bland’s degree of insanity warranted involuntary hospitalization. Bland is slated to have another hearing on July 6 to determine treatment options.

News Media contacted Bland’s attorney but did not receive a response. The 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida, where Judge de la O presides, told News Media “judicial ethics canons do not permit comment on pending cases.”

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Pledge $26 Million to Charities Ahead of Wedding Celebration

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made a remarkable charitable gesture this week, donating $26 million to various charities in advance of their upcoming wedding at Madison Square Garden this Friday.

Swift’s publicist confirmed that the funds were distributed among 20 different organizations, both local and national, many of which are places the couple has meaningful connections with. While their engagement wasn’t addressed in the official announcement, a law enforcement source on the security team informed the Associated Press that the ceremony is scheduled for Friday, following a more intimate rehearsal dinner planned for Thursday evening.

Nine of the chosen charities operate out of New York City. Among these are Food Bank For NYC, City Harvest, and Musical Mentors, a nonprofit that links music educators with students who lack access to music lessons.

The precise amount allocated to each charity has not been publicly disclosed.

Among the other beneficiaries are organizations located in areas significant to Swift and Kelce. These include the Rhode Island Community Food Bank—near Swift’s estate in Watch Hill—and Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, a nod to Kelce’s role as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.

A handful of national groups also received money: Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book giveaway program spearheaded by the music legend; the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Feeding America.

The large donations ahead of Swift and Kelce’s wedding is reminiscent of charitable gifts the couple has given in the past. Swift, a billionaire, gave millions to food banks ahead of her Eras Tour stops, while Kelce has been recognized by the Chiefs for winning “charity challenges” and operating his own nonprofit.

Swift and Kelce have been in a relationship since 2023, enthralling millions around the world. Their relationship have been documented in countless shots of Swift celebrating at Chiefs games and fan videos of Kelce dancing along at Swift’s Eras concert tour as it traveled the globe. In 2025, they announced their engagement with the caption but have remained mum on wedding details.

Yet buzz has remained high around New York’s MSG, with multiple trucks and crews going in and out delivering materials for what is expected to be an elaborate event.

Discover Rare Photos of Taylor Swift’s Timeless Innocence

A new star has emerged!

Before she ascended to the heights of global fame and became a household name, Taylor Swift was simply another aspiring young girl with dreams in the fiercely competitive world of country music.

Now, at 36, as she gears up for her headline-grabbing wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce, a collection of never-before-seen photos unveiled by the Daily Mail chronicles her incredible journey from a charming, toothless youngster with platinum blonde hair to the worldwide celebrity we know today.

This extraordinary collection of images offers a unique peek into her formative years, capturing the transformation from an innocent-faced child to a promising teen with a guitar in hand, on the verge of stardom.

Andrew Orth, a noted celebrity portrait photographer and former neighbor of the Swift family, meticulously documented her evolution over a ten-year span.

‘Taylor was a very pretty little girl,’ Orth previously told the Daily Mail.

Before skyrocketing to super stardom and becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the world, Taylor Swift was merely just a chubby-cheeked girl next door

‘She had this white hair, crystal blue eyes, pale skin, and pouty lips. She was just something,’ he continued.

‘She had a way about her, she knew she was adorable and she really was the cutest thing in the world.’

He first snapped Swift when she was just four years old in her family’s barn in Reading, Pennsylvania, where the future star proudly showed off her toothless grin.

When the Swift clan eventually headed off for the bright lights of Nashville, Tennessee, Orth continued to shoot her sporadically as she sought to make a name for herself in country music.

In the cache of photos, Swift can be seen posing with her guitar, cowboy hats and her once-iconic curly tresses.

The selection of past snaps is a far cry from the countless red carpet and paparazzi images of the 14-time Grammy winner that now flood every stretch of the internet.

The treasured shots resurfaced just as Swift and Kelce, also 36, prepare to tie the knot at New York City’s Madison Square Garden later this week.

Remarkably, Orth anticipated in an interview more than a decade ago that the Grammy winner would likely find the one in her 30s.

‘Probably in her thirties she’ll find something more that’s significant… I think that she has no patience for them now,’ he said back in 2013 – long before her string of high-profile relationships – and breakups – dominated gossip headlines.

‘She’s the kind of girl that when she finds the right guy, she’s going to stick with him.’

More than a decade on, the rumor mill has been kicked into overdrive as the Swift-Kelce wedding inches closer.

The pair started dating in 2023 – two years before Kelce got down on one knee with a diamond ring said to be ten carats.

The couple dropped news of their engagement in August last year with a flurry of photos on social media from the intimate proposal.

Now, after months of fevered will-she-won’t-she speculation, activity around MSG reached a fever pitch this week as a huge volume of delivery trucks arrived at the venue and workers fueled whispers that The Love Story hitmaker may be entering her ‘bridezilla’ era.

Adding to the growing sense of drama, it was also claimed that the couple were building a custom princess ‘castle’ inside the arena ahead of lavish celebrations that are expected to take place across Thursday and Friday.

There are even rumors that Swift has bought up every available calla lily in New York City.

While the superstar couple have gone to extraordinary lengths to keep specific details of their wedding under wraps, the ceremony looks set to rival any one of Swift’s sold-out Eras Tour concerts.

Shocking Twist: Disturbing Text Leads to Violent Head Stomping Incident

Background: An alleyway off the 3300 block of East Capitol Street, the grim scene where the victim’s body was discovered (WRC). Inset left: Dalonte Jackson (Cedar Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery). Inset right: A person believed to be Maurice Pierre Hawley (Superior Court of the District of Columbia).

Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the death of a Washington, D.C. resident. The victim was found severely injured in an alley, reportedly after being assaulted and run over.

Maurice Pierre Hawley, 35, is facing first-degree murder charges for the death of Dalonte Lamont Jackson, also 35. This information was confirmed by the Metropolitan Police Department in a statement. Hawley was apprehended in Jackson, North Carolina, and subsequently extradited to Washington, D.C.

The sequence of events leading to this tragedy began around 4:30 p.m. on May 24. Officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of East Capitol Street following reports of an “unconscious person.” Upon arrival, the officers discovered Jackson critically injured.

An arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime describes Jackson’s condition at the scene — he was found “lying face down” in the alley, with his clothing disheveled, a cut on his foot, and a “pool of blood” encircling his head. Despite efforts to save him, Jackson succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital five days later.

Authorities determined that his cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner of death was homicide.

Detectives investigated and searched through surveillance footage. They say that minutes before officers were dispatched to the alleyway, video showed a gray Mazda pull up and a door open.

The video went on, showing the victim “in a prone position” and apparently “suffering and struggling to move.” According to a witness cited in the court record, someone had dragged Jackson out of the vehicle — while another person “stood back and watched” — and “stomped” on Jackson’s head 10 times.

The two suspects then left, before returning about a minute later and driving “over the legs of the victim,” authorities said. The Mazda then drove away for good.

Detectives spoke with another witness who said the victim had appeared at the witness’s apartment about 45 minutes before he was found. Jackson had reportedly texted a third witness informing them of his location and writing, “I don’t feel safe, just in case.”

This third witness, a woman, tried to call Jackson, but he didn’t answer, instead texting back, “don’t call.” When she texted him about 20 minutes later, “it didn’t go through,” the affidavit states.

One of the first two witnesses explained that Jackson is an “openly gay man” but that he “deals with a lot of ‘down low’ men.” The woman added that someone told him to “take care, because some have a lot to lose” and she warned Jackson “about tempers flaring” and him “possibly threatening males on the ‘down-low’ about ‘outing’ them.”

Investigators tracked the Mazda in question and say they tied it to a “Pierre Hawley.” They then spoke with another person who gave their account of what happened that day.

Jackson had reportedly been sending “sexual messages” to Hawley on social media. After Jackson showed up at a residence with Hawley and at least one other person inside, Hawley allegedly “kept hitting and punching” the victim.

At one point during the alleged attack, Jackson reportedly cried, “stop Moe, stop” and “I’m a diabetic.” The lengthy affidavit adds that after dumping the victim’s body, someone worked to clean up the crime scene.

The case is not being investigated as a hate crime, local NBC affiliate WRC reported.

It’s unclear whether any additional suspect is wanted by authorities. Law&Crime reached out to the Metropolitan Police Department for more information.

Hawley has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 31.

Americans Reflect on the State of a 250-Year-Old Democracy: Mixed Emotions Emerge

0

WASHINGTON (AP) — As the United States commemorates its 250th anniversary, countless Americans are opting to ignore the cacophony of political debates. They’re tuning out the relentless din emanating from Washington and the uproar often amplified by social media platforms.

In contrast, they are gravitating towards fostering their own interpretations of America the Beautiful through various personal lenses.

“We need to seek unity, whether it’s through humor or resilience, and help everyone remain level-headed,” expressed one man, standing at his bustling fireworks stall, which serves as his profitable side venture.

The stereotypical portrayal of Americans as loud and self-assured, if not occasionally nationalistic, clashes with the more subdued sentiments and cautious optimism shared by numerous individuals interviewed by AP.

“There’s a significant amount of debate happening,” remarked Christina Zhou, a research assistant aged 25, residing in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Nonetheless, she affirmed, “there are still numerous wonderful things occurring.”

“What I’m trying to do is think about just things that are happening locally,” she added. “It feels a little bit more like within our own personal control.”

‘We’re just happy Americans’

In Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, farmer Mindy Dean, 50, and her family will be milking their goats Saturday and maybe taking in some local fireworks. Or maybe not. The 250th hoopla has been mostly lost on her. “We’re just happy Americans,” she said. “We kinda do our own thing and just enjoy our freedom as Americans.”

In contrast, the goat-free Neil Casey, an 81-year-old retiree from Nashua, New Hampshire, and his friend Maureen Regan, who lives in Cambridge, are free-range celebrants. They’re roaming Boston’s historical sites, like Paul Revere’s house, and as many of the city’s Fourth events as they can manage. They, too, are plugging their ears to discord.

“I’m very much aware of our country and what we’ve been through, you know, so I’m just trying to immerse myself in the atmosphere of the 250th,” Casey said. Regan took heart in all the soccer fans who poured into the country for the World Cup and praised what they experienced.

“They love everything we have,” she said, ”and I want people to not forget that and remember how lucky we are.” Her advice to compatriots: “Just enjoy the moment. Enjoy that we’ve been here for 250 years.”

Still, for some, it is nearly impossible to separate holiday patriotism from steps by President Donald Trump to bend the celebrations toward himself, as with the Fourth of July festivities on the National Mall that he said will culminate in a Trump rally Saturday.

When patriotism feels ‘Republican’

“When you’re celebrating the Fourth of July right now, it feels like that’s like a Republican thing to do,” said Madeline Capodilupo, 26, a special-education teacher who lives in Boston. She’ll spend the weekend with her fiancé’s family at their Maine beach house.

“It’s just hard to celebrate something when it doesn’t feel like we should be celebrating anything,” she said.

What celebrants are celebrating, exactly, is diverse and personal.

Ronald Hall spent 18 months in the Air Force toward the end of the Vietnam War. His wife, Karen, served two years in the Army and took part in Operation Desert Storm during the first Gulf War. While they shopped for vegetables at Detroit’s Eastern Market this week, Ronald said he’s spent a lifetime celebrating American ideals, which might be distinct from reality.

As a Black man, he said, America’s promise of freedom and equality was at the core. “I grew up remembering the promise,” he said. “That’s what we celebrated: the promise, not the country.”

Old warriors find their faith tested

Veterans are always front and center in America’s big occasions and the 250th is no different. At the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, residents are looking forward to a community celebration in the coming days that will feature a National Guard Black Hawk helicopter, a World War II ambulance, food trucks, music and even Uncle Sam on stilts.

The old warriors are keeping the faith. But that faith is being tested.

“I believe this country is the greatest that ever existed,” said Leo LeClerc, 83, an Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam. “Our democracy is strong and it will continue to be strong as long as people participate in it.”

But, he said. “I don’t like what’s going on in this country” and “I don’t feel very good about the 250th.” An independent who voted for Trump in 2016, he now believes a “cult of personality has taken over” around the president.

Tom Gaumont, 74, an Army veteran and former history teacher, remembered the 1976 bicentennial as a more hopeful time, despite the aftershocks of President Richard Nixon’s resignation under threat of impeachment.

“I’m kinda sad at this point with what I anticipate,” Gaumont said. “I’ve seen and taught about how these things kind of crumble, so I’m concerned.”

“We’ve lasted this long,” he added, “and this is a very existential time in our history.”

Allan Bailey, 83, a Republican who also served in Vietnam and later owned a motel, voiced similar pessimism.

“I’m worried about how the country is going, I really am,” he said. “I don’t know what we’re going to leave our children, and that bothers me a lot.”

A security guard works to ‘make the USA the greatest’

In Dearborn, Michigan, Nabeel Mawari, 38, sounded a more hopeful note. On Saturday, he’ll be working his security guard job while his wife and two young sons celebrate the holiday with relatives. An immigrant from Yemen, now a U.S. citizen, Mawari spoke from his backyard about life in the United States.

“My life is here,” Mawari said. “We try to make the U.S.A. the greatest. That’s why I’m here. I love this country. The Fourth of July, it is very important.”

Then there’s the man who, for perhaps very understandable reasons, wanted to stay far away from the political fray.

Gary MacGrath, 77, has been a caricaturist at a suburban Philadelphia fair for 14 years. This year, McGrath’s booth was sandwiched right between the local Democratic and Republican Party clubs. Talk about a rock and a hard place. He said he learned as a bartender earlier in life to “never talk about religion or politics” and was heeding that lesson now.

But he did permit himself this: “It’s 250 years,” he said. “Let’s keep democracy going.”

Explosion in Monaco Leaves Ukrainian Oligarch Injured

0

In an unprecedented incident in Monaco, a blast from an explosive device injured Ukrainian tycoon Vadym Yermolaiev and two others, authorities reported on Tuesday. This intentional act has sent shockwaves through the principality.

The explosion, which occurred around 9 pm local time on Monday (5 am Tuesday AEST), injured three individuals, including a teenager. It took place in a residential building situated near the French border.

A source with knowledge of the investigation, who preferred to remain anonymous, informed the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news outlet that Yermolaiev was among the injured parties.

Christophe Mirmand, Monaco’s minister of state, initially referred to the incident as an “attack” in comments to the AFP, but later revised his language, characterizing it as a “deliberate explosion”.

Prince Albert II of Monaco has condemned the event, labeling it a “heinous crime” and expressing that it has deeply unsettled the Monegasque community.

An aide to France’s interior minister Laurent Nunez said police were working “to find the perpetrator, who has fled”.

An AFP photographer at the scene saw a heavy police presence with access to the area cordoned off, while a helicopter circled overhead.

Public prosecutor Stephane Thibault said a suspect had left a bag or package in the building’s lobby before leaving.

Nothing appeared for the moment to indicate why the building might have been targeted, he said.

A couple in their 50s or 60s wounded in the blast were in life-threatening conditions, while a 13-year-old who was “very likely related to the couple” suffered less serious injuries, Mirmand said, without disclosing their identities.

Emergency services treated four other people for shock and cuts from windows shattered in the blast.

The explosive device apparently contained bolts and buckshot, Mirmand said.

“This is the first time in history, to my knowledge, that such an act has taken place in the principality,” he said.

Yermolaiev, a multi-millionaire Monaco resident, has been subject to sanctions from Kyiv since December 2023, which Ukrainian security services reportedly said stemmed from his alcohol business activity in Russian-occupied Crimea.

Mirmand said the prosecutor would give a news briefing on Tuesday local time.

NFL Mourns the Loss of Los Angeles Rams Icon LeRoy Irvin at Age 68

0

LeRoy Irvin, a former cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams and a two-time Pro Bowl selectee, has died at the age of 68. The news was confirmed by his former teammate and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Eric Dickerson.

Dickerson, who shared the field with Irvin for five seasons during his remarkable tenure with the Rams, expressed his sorrow over Irvin’s passing through an Instagram post on Thursday. He revealed that he was “devastated to hear about” the recent news.

“LeRoy was more than just a formidable corner and a fierce rival on the field; he was a genuine friend and an outstanding man who consistently radiated tremendous energy,” Dickerson shared. “Rest in peace, my brother. My thoughts and prayers are with the Irvin family and all of Rams Nation.”

Accompanying his heartfelt message, Dickerson posted a photograph of him and Irvin beaming at an event hosted by Dickerson’s foundation.

Irvin embarked on his journey with the Rams in 1980, when the team drafted him as the 70th overall pick. Throughout his 11-season career in Los Angeles, he was a starter in 104 games.

He finished his career with one season in Detroit.

Irvin compiled 35 interceptions during his time in the NFL and was named a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro on two separate occasions.

Further details surrounding his passing were not disclosed.

Rabbis Demand Apology from Mamdani in Fox News’ ‘Antisemitism Exposed’ Newsletter

– Orthodox Jew alleges California city penalized him for hosting prayer meetings at home
– Commentator from MS NOW describes Mamdani’s primary victory as a frightening event for NYC Jews

With mounting anger, more than 700 rabbis are calling on New York City’s Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, to issue an apology after referring to AIPAC in discussions about so-called “dark money.” Critics argue that equating AIPAC with Jewish people taps into age-old antisemitic tropes, which potentially endangers the Jewish community. Travis Kelce’s Alleged Taylor Swift Contract Leak Sparks Mystery and Public Curiosity

0

It was a moment that left many in shock, breaking numerous hearts while simultaneously confirming widespread suspicions.

For almost two years, fans followed the enchanting narrative of a pop icon intertwined with her athletic beau. However, for those devoted to the journey of their relationship, the revelation that it might all be an orchestrated ruse struck a chord.

On September 3, 2024, a photo emerged on Reddit, allegedly showcasing documents haphazardly left by an employee at Travis Kelce’s public relations firm, Full Scope Public Relations.

Under the title Comprehensive Media Plan for Travis Kelce’s Public Relations Following Breakup with Taylor Swift, the instant these images surfaced, they sent both admirers and detractors into a frenzy.

Kelce’s team swiftly dismissed the so-called ‘contract’ as ‘completely false and fabricated,’ announcing their intentions to seek legal counsel and promising to unravel the threads of this malicious fiction.

Within days, denials had been issued from both camps.

But the contract sent shockwaves through the pop culture ecosystem, blindsiding millions of fans who were deeply invested in this particular love story.

For those who had always been skeptical of Swift’s many high-profile romances, it seemed proof of a relationship built for public performance and Swift’s carefully curated image – mutually beneficial but based on nothing more heartfelt than a marketing strategy.

There was even a date set to announce the split – September 28, 2024.

Three days post that fateful date, an official statement would be issued, by which time, the document reasoned, the ‘initial media frenzy’ would have settled down and ‘clarity’ would be restored.

The announcement was to be ‘gracious, respectful and stress mutual respect.’ In other words, on brand.

‘Example,’ the writing went. ‘Travis and Taylor have decided to part ways after careful consideration. They both value and respect each other’s personal lives and appreciate your respect for privacy during this time.’

The irony of a PR plea for ‘privacy’ was not lost.

Both, the statement would continue, remained ‘committed to their careers and personal growth.’ As well, it added for good measure, continuing to be friends who ‘wish each other the best.’

The breakup would be framed as a ‘natural part of life’ – and who could be unaware of Swift’s familiarity with just how natural, given her lengthy list of exes, each of whom spawned a career-defining track or album.

But a representative for Full Scope was categorical: ‘These documents are entirely false and fabricated and were not created, issued or authorized by this agency.’

They went on to note that the PR agency had contacted Reddit’s legal team ‘to initiate proceedings against the individuals or entities responsible for the unlawful and injurious forgery of documents.’

Of course, with the couple’s impending nuptials, any lingering doubts as to the veracity of the relationship have been well and truly laid to rest.

But one that is very far from settled is the question of who perpetrated the stunt in the first place.

At the time, Swifties took matters into their own hands, turning to the Internet to try and decipher who was behind it.

While many of Swift’s loyal fans had theorized early on that the document was fake due to the language and writing style used, many were incensed that someone would try to undermine this longed-for ‘happily ever after.’

Multiple online forums and social media posts by fans were devoted to trying to unearth the identity of the creator. Given the Swifties’ legendary tenacity, it is something of a miracle that the guilty party has, so far, managed to remain anonymous despite providing what was perhaps the most dramatic plot point in this love story.

Swift and Kelce have been rich fodder for Swifties’ romantic dreams since the summer of 2023, when rumors began swirling that the two might be linked.

Representatives later declared: 'These documents are entirely false and fabricated and were not created, issued or authorized by this agency'

Kelce revealed his own thwarted bid to engineer a meeting at an Eras concert in July of that year, telling his brother Jason on their podcast, New Heights, that he had naively hoped to hand the star a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.

Just two months later, the couple confirmed their romance when, in September, Swift watched the tight end play a game in Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium from his family’s personal suite.

After two years of dating, Kelce proposed to Swift in August 2025 with an eye-poppingly large custom Artifex Fine Jewelry diamond engagement ring.

He turned the backyard of the Kansas City house he bought with Swift in mind into an Arcadian idyll, festooned with her favorite flowers and Swift announced to the world with a joint Instagram post captioned archly: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’

Perhaps it’s surprising that Swift, who’s long chafed at the outsize scrutiny on her personal life, should have chosen to celebrate her marriage in the ‘World’s most famous arena.’

But the location allows her and her lover to have tight control over security and optics – the venue is windowless and has an entrance that shields the couple and their undoubtedly buzzy guests from the public eye.

As for the author of that mystery contract, they remain a ghost. But one thing is certain – the only contract these two will be signing is a pre-nup.
