A grandmother suffered catastrophic injuries when a driving instructor struck her bicycle from behind at 55mph.

Rebecca Tanton says Jon Dick has never apologised for the collision in Lincolnshire two years ago, maintaining throughout that he had done nothing wrong.

In November, however, Dick was convicted of causing serious injury by careless driving. He received a suspended prison sentence and a two-year driving ban, ending his work as a driving instructor.

Ms Tanton, who is in her late 50s, says she will ‘never recover’ from the devastating injuries. She needed seven metal plates inserted into her bones and later developed sepsis.

In a further tragedy, her 33-year-old son died from brain cancer shortly after she came out of one of six operations. Still in hospital, she had to organise his funeral from her bed.

She told the Daily Mail: ‘My helmet saved my life, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

‘But my life is changed completely. I am simply existing in constant pain, while Jon Dick is still walking around freely – and he has shown no remorse whatsoever.’

Before the crash, Ms Tanton, a mother of three, lived an exceptionally active life. She regularly rode horses and swam, and cycled 40 miles every day.

One of these daily rides, at just 4pm on October 7, 2024, saw her sharing Manby Road towards Louth with Dick, in his mid 50s.

Dashcam footage shows him driving alone in his Ford Puma, marked as a training vehicle, out of Manby with the radio playing, and accelerating up a hill just as Ms Tanton comes into view.

Despite wearing his glasses, Dick fails to spot Ms Tanton and ploughs into her from behind, shouting ‘f****** a***holes’ as he realises.

Rear-view footage shows her being thrown into the air before sickeningly clattering onto the tarmac, forcing the next car to swerve in order to avoid running her over.

Ms Tanton says: ‘I remember very little of the aftermath, but I heard someone say I wouldn’t make it if they put me in the air ambulance.

‘The paramedics wanted to take me to Hull, but realised I would have to go to Grimsby first by road to be stabilised. I needed an emergency blood transfusion because I was losing so much.’

Her pelvis was smashed to pieces, and bones were broken along the entire right side of her body.

A hole in her face down to the bone over a fractured eye socket was hemorrhaging so much blood that it had to be treated with plastic surgery that evening.

Long weeks in ICU followed, during which five plates were screwed into Ms Tanton’s pelvis: one into her hip, and one into her shoulder.

She said: ‘From the moment Jon Dick carelessly drove his car into me, he took away my freedom, independence and love of life.’

In March last year, just as the wounds were beginning to heal, Ms Tanton was struck down with sepsis – meaning infection had taken hold around the plates screwed to her bones.

Everything had to be opened back up, the infection washed out, an abscess cut away, and her wounds filled with antibiotic beads.

During this operation, however, her bladder was accidentally torn – saddling her with a catheter for three months.

When it seemed things could get no more difficult, Ms Tanton awoke from a surgery to the worst news imaginable: her 33-year-old son had died suddenly from a rare brain tumour.

Josh was a marine pilot out of Gravesend, meaning he used his expert knowledge to guide large commercial ships along the River Thames.

Ms Tanton said: ‘The funeral of my beloved son had to be postponed until I was in a stable condition to attend.

‘Which I did with a catheter, and barely able to walk, because of the injuries caused in this collision.’

Meanwhile, the sepsis was cleared, but doctors found that infection was clinging to the plates – which couldn’t be removed, because the bones had not properly fused.

That means Ms Tanton is now living with a ‘ticking timebomb’ with the threat of sepsis returning. If that happens, doctors have said she has just a one-in-three chance of survival.

Dick was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and first appeared at Boston Magistrates’ Court in July 2025, but he was allowed at the time to continue driving.

He was sentenced in December 2025 to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and disqualified from driving for 24 months. 

In her victim impact statement, read out in court, Ms Tanton said: ‘The impact this has had on my elderly father, my eldest son and family, also my daughter, nearly seeing me die praying every time I am hospitalised, is unquantifiable. It’s all a living nightmare for all of us.’

Jason, her eldest son, told the court: ‘This incident has changed all of our lives completely. It’s hard to describe the fear, sadness and stress we’ve all gone through.

‘Every time I see my mum struggle, I’m reminded how close we came to losing her. I’m so proud of her strength and determination, but I also wish none of this had ever happened.’

Dick was approached by the Daily Mail for comment.

Los Angeles prosecutors will reportedly not pursue the death penalty against Nick Reiner in the alleged killings of his parents, a decision sources say reflects Rob and Michele Reiner’s long-held opposition to executions.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman is declining to seek capital punishment in the case in part because Rob and Michele Reiner were strongly opposed to the death penalty, according to TMZ .

A source familiar with Hochman’s thinking said the couple’s other children, Jake and Romy Reiner, were also taken into account as prosecutors weighed the potential punishment.

While Jake and Romy are not supporting their brother’s case or helping finance his legal defense, the source said they would have faced an especially difficult sentencing process had execution remained a possible outcome.

Reiner, 33, is accused of stabbing Rob and Michele Reiner to death on December 14, 2025.

He has entered not-guilty pleas to two murder charges, which include special-circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder committed by lying in wait.

He is scheduled to return to court later today for a pretrial hearing.

Another hearing set for next month will focus on Reiner’s request to use a $1.5 million trust fund to cover the costs of his defense.

Reiner was arrested after his parents’ bloodied bodies were discovered at their home in the affluent Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Rob Reiner, 79, who directed huge hits including When Harry Met Sally and A Few Good Men, and his wife, Michele Singer, 70, had been stabbed to death.

Nick Reiner, who has a history of addiction, lived in a guest house on his parents’ property. 

He had attended a party at the home of comedian Conan O’Brien on December 13 with his parents, where some attendees reportedly said he had behaved erratically.

Reiner, who just celebrated his 33rd birthday on Monday, was indicted by a Los Angeles grand jury in August.

The indictment accuses him of two counts of first-degree murder with additional special circumstances of multiple murders and lying in wait.

It also includes the special allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon.

The charges in the indictment superseded the previous ones that were filed over the December 2025 double slaying.

Special circumstances allegations can also increase potential penalties during the sentencing phase.

Hochman, after the indictment was unsealed last month, said: ‘This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing.

‘The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait.

‘We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.’

Reiner in June filed a petition demanding access to a $1.5 million trust fund set up by the parents he is charged with murdering, court documents show.

The 136-page petition filed in Los Angeles says Reiner should have begun receiving the money two years ago, and his inability to access it left him unable to pay the expensive attorney who had originally represented him after his arrest over the December stabbing of his mother and father.

‘Nick loved his parents, and he is devastated by their deaths,’ the petition stated. ‘But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this trust litigation.’

Reiner is one of three children that Rob and Michele had together. Rob also adopted a child during his first marriage.

According to the June petition, the trust was one of three set up for the couple’s children with ‘unambiguous instructions’ as part of an estate plan established in 1993.

Reiner should have received half of the money when he turned 30, with the other half available to him five years later, the petition stated.

His attorneys said the awards are mandatory and unconditional.

‘They were a commitment by Nick’s parents, in the most binding way the law of trusts allows, that these resources would belong to Nick for his use and benefit,’ the petition alleged.

Reiner was originally represented by celebrity attorney Alan Jackson, who left the case a short time later. The petition says Reiner’s inability to access the trust money meant he could not pay the lawyer.

Rob Reiner, the son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner, started his showbiz career in acting.

He won fame as the oafish son-in-law Michael ‘Meathead’ Stivic on groundbreaking 1970s sitcom All in the Family, before transitioning to directing.

As a director, his output included classic films like 1984’s rock music mockumentary This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride from 1987, and seminal coming-of-age movie Stand By Me.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Hochman and Reiner’s attorney for comment. 

Sacramento County authorities have acknowledged they were unable to track down a man accused of stalking a California woman for months before he allegedly killed her last week.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said deputies had probable cause to arrest 22-year-old Rohit Rohit in July after he allegedly breached a restraining order.

But deputies were unable to find him, officials said. On September 8, Rohit allegedly shot and killed Shalini Thakur, 38, despite the protective order she had obtained against him.

Disturbing surveillance video captured the moments before the killing outside a Sacramento Panera Bread shortly before 3pm. Authorities said Rohit, a DoorDash driver from India who entered the United States illegally in August 2023, chased Thakur before allegedly opening fire.

Rohit then drove away from the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. He later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after officers stopped his vehicle.

Thakur’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, is now mourning the death of her only daughter just two years after losing her husband.

Kumari broke down in tears during her daughter’s funeral in Sacramento on Monday as Thakur’s body was carried past in a wooden casket.

Tara Singh, a community representative with Guru Nanak Sat Sangat of California, a Sikh temple nonprofit that attended the service, said Kumari has been devastated by the loss and is struggling to process what happened.

‘Today, Mom is saying, “Please let me go with her, and I can’t be living all my life alone,”‘ Singh told CBS News. ‘It’s a very sad moment.’

Indian-born Thakur was a beloved waitress at the IHOP in Arden-Arcade, and she touched so many people that several customers even turned up to her funeral. 

Most of her family is home in India, so her mother and uncle were the only relatives able to attend the memorial service on Monday. 

Thakur’s friend, Satinder Dulai, remembered her for her bright spirit.  

‘She was a lady with a vibrant personality,’ Dulai told CBS. ‘Larger than life, with this glow about her, her aura. 

‘She had a bubbly personality. She had a lot of goals. And I think one by one, she was completing them. She was a little feisty, but very loving.’ 

‘I want to honor her heart and her kindness,’ said Melinda Willey, a regular IHOP customer who formed a friendship with Thakur. 

Many mourners also slammed the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for failing to protect Thakur from Rohit despite him being on their radar for months. 

‘He was an illegal person in this country and she has a restraining order. I don’t know how the police department didn’t take any action,’ Singh said. 

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Amar Gandhi said Thakur died just before 3pm on September 8, when Rohit approached her at the shopping mall where she worked on Howe Avenue and ‘began to accost her.’

‘As the victim attempted to run away, Rohit chased her down, pulled out a firearm, and shot her multiple times,’ he said. ‘The victim fell to the ground.’

Gandhi added that Rohit then walked over to Thakur’s body as she lay dying on the sidewalk, and ‘shot her in the head at close range.’ 

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and tracked Rohit’s vehicle as he fled. They quickly located him and said he ‘immediately slammed on his brakes’.

‘Deputies attempted to call out the driver for some time, but ultimately discovered that he was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,’ Lieutenant Gandhi said. 

Homicide detectives were aware that Rohit had been harassing and stalking Thakur after meeting her through his DoorDash pickups from her workplace. 

The campaign of harassment dates back to at least January, when Thakur discovered an Apple AirTag he had planted under the hood of her car. 

Gandhi said Rohit’s behavior became ‘increasingly alarming,’ and on one occasion, he deflated Thakur’s tires and followed her to work so that he could offer her assistance.

Rohit even obtained a copy of her apartment key and entered her home on Sierra Boulevard while she was sleeping. 

He claimed the next day that he snuck into her home as a welfare check after she did not respond to his messages. 

The series of troubling incidents prompted Thakur to obtain a restraining order against Rohit, which he breached in July by dropping off random grocery items at her front door. 

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has blamed Biden’s immigration policies for the tragedy, saying Rohit illegally entered the US via Arizona in 2023.

Rohit was arrested by US Border Patrol agents in August of that year, but was ‘released into the country by the Biden administration,’ according to the DHS.

Rohit managed to pass background checks through Checkr to gain work with DoorDash by providing a Social Security number, sources told the Daily Mail. 

He had not made a delivery in more than six weeks and was not active on the platform on the day of the murder.

A DoorDash spokesman expressed condolences for Thakur’s family, and said the company is ‘fully cooperating’ with police as they investigate the case. 

‘This is an unimaginable tragedy, and our hearts are with Ms. Thakur’s family and loved ones as they grieve this immense loss,’ the spokesperson said. 

‘DoorDash has absolutely zero tolerance for violence or harassment of any kind, and we encourage anyone experiencing unwanted attention to report it directly in the DoorDash app, and to contact local law enforcement if they feel unsafe. 

‘We are fully cooperating with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office as they investigate.’ 

Kelly Osbourne has explained why she no longer has a relationship with her older sister, Aimee, saying she sees no possibility of the siblings reconciling.

The 41-year-old television personality previously confirmed in 2021 that she and Aimee, 43, had been estranged for years after their personalities clashed.

Now, Kelly has said she has permanently removed Aimee from her life. She claimed her sister never properly acknowledged either her or their brother Jack, 40, and said she felt Aimee was “embarrassed” by their family.

Appearing on Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, Kelly said: “I respect her, I accept her, but we’re different, and that’s OK.

“If you’re not going to accept me for who I am, and constantly be trying to change me and say horrible things about me, and truly seem to thrive when I’m not doing well, I don’t want you in my life.”

When asked whether there was any chance of a reconciliation, Kelly replied: “No, no.” Calling herself and Aimee “polar opposites,” she added: “It’s one of the hardest things of my life that I never got a big sister. I had to learn how to do certain things that a big sister should have taught you on my own. I do have a resentment there.”

“It was always me and Jack. If I’m honest, my older sister didn’t really ever acknowledge me and my brother. She was just in her own world, doing her own thing,” Kelly continued.

“And I do, to a certain extent, if I’m honest, feel as though she was embarrassed of us,” she said, clarifying that she meant “of the whole family.”

Later in the interview Kelly spoke about her deep loyalty to the other members of her family, telling the podcast: ‘I have never been ashamed of my family, we’re not conventional, but we are honest. I am like my father in the sense that I wear my heart on my sleeve, I can’t pretend. I am who I am. You can love me or hate me.’

Aimee, who is the eldest child of Sharon and the late rocker Ozzy, decided against featuring in their reality TV show, moving out of the family home at 16.

While MTV’s The Osbournes, which launched in 2002, catapulted her younger siblings Kelly and Jack to worldwide fame, Aimee stayed in the shadows, refusing to be drawn into the world of reality television. 

She previously said that she would have liked to have stayed at home ‘a little longer’, but as the MTV crew moved in the then teenager moved out.

In a previous interview with The Independent, Aimee said of not appearing on The Osbournes, ‘Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television?’

‘I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable,’ she continued.

Kelly says for her as a 16-year-old she was ‘so excited’ to take part in the show, but admits the family quickly realised the impact it would have on their lives.

Speaking on We Need To Talk she recalled: ‘I remember the night before The Osbournes launched on TV. Me, my mum and my brother went for a walk on Venice Beach and we all looked at each other and my mom said, “Have we just made the biggest mistake of our lives?”‘

‘And I was like “I don’t know.” Because we weren’t normal, we weren’t like everyone else, we were just being ourselves. And all of a sudden the judgement came in, and the very next day, there were paparazzi outside my house.’

‘I didn’t even think the show would make me famous, and I was just excited because it was MTV, it was cool.’

The family’s show came to an end in 2005 after running for four series. Kelly was 20 when the cameras left and she explains that despite the show only being a part of her life for four years, to some extent she can never escape that period of time.

‘The reason why we decided to end the series… Because the thing is, there’s nowhere to go but down. We wanted to end on a high and we wanted to have our lives back,’ she explained.

‘And I wanted to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and that took me a minute. It’s only just now, when I’m in my 40’s that I’m free to do that.’

‘There are some people that still see me as that 16 year old. Half of me is like ‘haha I’ll take it’, the other half is like “come on, like people grow up, people change, life happens.”‘

Previously I’m A Celebrity star Jack revealed that he and sister Aimee are also ‘not close at all’ in a podcast recorded weeks before the death of their father Ozzy. 

Jack said on the Disrespectfully podcast: ‘Back then she really wanted to be a musician and the kind of musician she wanted to be was like a Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, like this kind of obscure, mysterious, moody…

‘And she deemed doing a show on MTV as low-hanging fruit. She was like, “I’m not going to be seen riding coat-tails,” kind of thing, that’s how she perceived it.

‘Once the show was hugely successful I think she was kind of like, “Well I can’t now come on because I don’t want to be seen even more so as jumping on the bandwagon.” And she dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure.’

Aimee has remained out of the limelight and has released music under the name ARO, which are her initials and also has a few acting credits under her belt.

Jack revealed on the podcast they weren’t on close terms when he was quizzed on whether Aimee regretted not taking part in the family’s reality series.

He admitted: ‘I’ve never had the conversation with her, we’re not close at all. We don’t have a great relationship, she’ll be the first to tell you that, so it’s no secret.

‘I’ve never asked her outright, “Do you regret it’” I think there must be a level of like, “Hey, my life would have probably been different than what it is if I’d done that”, so I don’t know, I think I would feel like I would have regretted it.’

Sharon previously admitted she was devastated when Aimee moved out, saying on The Talk in 2018: ‘She felt too that she didn’t want to grow up on camera. She hated the idea – it was appalling to her.

‘And so she left at 16 and I regret every day that she did. It broke my heart when she moved.’

Last year, Aimee courageously put herself in the spotlight for her beloved father at his funeral procession.

The Black Sabbath rocker died aged 76 on July 22, 2025 and his funeral cortege travelled through his hometown of Birmingham, passing thousands of fans who lined the streets.

Kelly and Aimee were pictured with their devastated mother and brother for the rock legend’s send off.

Ozzy shared daughters Kelly and Aimee, as well as son Jack, with his wife of 43 years Sharon, and also had three children, Louis, Jessica and Eliot, from his first marriage to wife Thelma Riley.
