NYC Cocktail Bar Heist: Workers Bound as Thieves Escape with $30K in Liquor, Cash, and DJ Gear

0

In a brazen heist that could have been lifted from a Hollywood script, three armed and masked individuals stormed a Manhattan cocktail bar, tying up employees in the process. The robbers made away with a haul of nearly $30,000, including high-end booze, cash, and DJ gear, police reports confirm.

The dramatic robbery unfolded at the Obvio Cocktail Bar, located on East 28th Street, nestled between the busy Fifth and Madison Avenues in the Nomad district. The suspects infiltrated the chic establishment around 4 a.m. on July 13, according to the NYPD.

Clad in masks, one of the robbers brandished a black handgun equipped with an ominous extended magazine. With this show of force, they coerced two male employees, aged 38 and 43, into separate bathrooms of the posh venue, authorities reported.

The unfortunate staff members found themselves trapped, their hands secured with electrical cords and tape, leaving them helpless, as detailed by police.

Following this swift and well-coordinated operation, the culprits managed to seize a safe brimming with $7,000 in cash, as well as DJ equipment valued at $13,000. Not content with just that, they also took off with $7,000 worth of premium liquor bottles, authorities revealed.

Both workers sustained redness to their wrists but refused medical attention at the scene.

Images released by cops on Monday captured one of the suspects washing a gray 1993 Ford E-350 Econoline van used to carry out the brazen robbery. Investigators have since recovered the van.

The pricey modern lounge — which requires elegant attire — boasts live DJ sets, craft cocktails, and an exclusive, dimly lit social-club ambiance, according to its website.

Obvio, which has an upscale dinner and dessert menu, was also named to have the “martini of the year” by The New York Times in 2025.

Obvio did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

An investigation into the robbery remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

Tragic Shooting at Mark Twain Elementary School in Chicago: Two Custodians Killed

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — Tragedy struck Mark Twain Elementary School on Monday afternoon when two custodians were discovered shot to death, authorities and union representatives confirmed.

Fortunately, no students were present during the time of the shooting, the school’s principal stated. However, the violent occurrence has left many parents anxious about school safety as the new academic year approaches.

Police received an emergency call around 3:40 p.m. from the 5100 block of South Lotus in the Garfield Ridge area. Upon arrival, officers found a 48-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man each suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. Both victims were rushed to a hospital but succumbed to their injuries.

Chilling police radio transmissions indicated dire findings with statements such as “In the hallway we have one female,” “The shooter shot himself in the head,” and “There is a firearm right next to the offender,” suggesting a possible murder-suicide.

At this time, police have not disclosed any information regarding the motive behind the tragic shooting.

The two people who died were school custodians, according to their union. In a statement, the union said, “Two families have lost a loved one and our prayers are with their families, and the staff, students, and families at Mark Twain Elementary School.”

Among those expressing concern was parent Felicia Puga, whose daughter is set to begin second grade in two weeks.

“I’m appalled. This is ridiculous. Fourteen days until school. And janitors, people that are in the school with my child,” Puga said. “Imagine if a new student wanted to come in here to the office. They’re with their parents. Hey, we want to register our kid for so-and-so, and then this just happens.”

Former student Edgar Ochoa said the shooting was unexpected.

“I think it’s kind of sad. It’s kind of unexpected because, you know, when I came here it was never bad around here,” Ochoa said.

In a letter to parents, the school’s principal wrote, “We know that this news will be deeply concerning to our families and staff.”

The principal also wrote, “Please know that we are taking this situation very seriously to ensure the safety of our school community.”

According to the principal, the school immediately contacted police and the Chicago Public Schools Office of Safety and Security following the shooting.

As the investigation continues, some parents remain uneasy about returning their children to school.

“How would you feel as a parent? Would you feel your kids are safe? No. Not at all,” Puga said.

Area One detectives are investigating.

Radio Veteran’s Fiery Response to Layoff: Aiming Criticism at Former Employers

0

A former beloved radio personality recently unleashed his frustrations on the executives of the California station that parted ways with him after an impressive 24-year tenure.

For nearly 25 years, Lamont Hollywood graced the airwaves as a fixture of San Mateo’s 107.7 KSAN The Bone, initially captivating listeners as part of a morning duo with Paul Tonelli and later, with his engaging solo show.

Yet, in a surprising turn revealed Monday, Hollywood shared the news of his abrupt dismissal by station owners Cumulus. He vented his displeasure in an extensive Facebook post, targeting the “giant corporate conglomerates.”

“Corporate bigwigs treat radio stations merely as entries on a balance sheet, completely oblivious to the soul of radio which thrives on genuine human connections, community trust, and vibrant personalities,” Hollywood expressed.

He critiqued the trend of ‘hollowing out local newsrooms,’ which are sometimes being supplanted by artificial intelligence and automated systems in a bid to cut costs.

‘They think they can algorithmically automate decades of trust, local flavor, and real intimacy with a community,’ Hollywood wrote.

‘When companies gut the very voices that give a station its identity, they destroy the soul of the medium and push loyal listeners away.’

Hollywood added that ‘executive salaries and bonuses’ were preserved by the practice.

How do you think local radio loses its soul when corporate bosses replace beloved hosts with automation?

He added that he would be ‘moving to an independent platform’ to retain direct ownership of his show.

‘I am already hard at work preparing to bring it directly back to you,’ he said.

Hollywood has worked in radio for 37 years, almost all of which he spent working alongside Tonelli.

The duo began their lengthy tenure together at a station in neighboring San Jose in 1989.

Starting in 2002, they ran the morning show from 5.30am to 10am with a mix of comedy, listener calls and rock n’ roll hits.

The pair were a regional staple, hosting the station’s pregame show for San Francisco 49ers games and even inducted into the Bay Area Hall of Fame in 2021, with Tonelli leaving abruptly in 2024.

During their final sign off two years ago, colleagues wept as they told him what an inspiration Hollywood and Tonelli had been to them.

This time around, Hollywood was not able to say goodbye on the air, but made his thoughts clear on social media.

Hollywood announced he will be continuing on an independent platform. Hollywood is pictured with colleagues Chasta Michaelis and Paul Tonelli

‘This isn’t a final goodbye—it’s a deep, heartfelt thank you, and a promise that the best is yet to come. Keep the music loud, stay tuned, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for every single year,’ Hollywood wrote.

His post was met with an outpouring of support in the comments section.

‘Man, this is sure a sad day. No words can adequately convey how I feel. I sincerely wish the next chapter of your life brings you more sleep and less driving. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into your show back to the KSJO days,’ one person wrote.

‘A little piece of me just died after reading this. I grew up in Santa Cruz and with KSJO, 107.7 the Bone, along with you and Tonnelli. You, Chasta, Tonnelli, Baby Huey, even Sully kept me laughing and giggling through some pretty hard times in my life and for that I thank you all. Thank you for all that you do and have done,’ another added.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Cumulus for comment.

MEMORISE: Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. – 1 Corinthians 9:24 (KJV)

READ: Proverbs 31:1-9 (KJV)

1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 25-27

Open Heaven 11 August 2026 MESSAGE

The farther you want to go in lite, the more you must invest in yourself. For example, if you are driving a Car with a tank full of petrol from Lagos, which is in South West Nigeria, to somewhere in Northern Nigeria, you will need to refuel your car at some point during the course of your journey. However, if you were only going to Ibadan, which is also a city in the South West of Nigeria, you wouldn’t need to stop on your way to buy more petrol.

Anyone who wants to go far in life must invest resources that include holiness, hard work, knowledge, and good interpersonal skills in his or her life, while avoiding unproductive habits such as binge-watching movies, scrolling aimlessly on social media, wild partying, and the like. Discipline is required to go far in life. I recall when I was a child, my mother would compel me to stay indoors and study while my friends were outdoors playing football. I used to complain a lot about it, but she insisted until it became a part of me. One time, I was at my uncle’s place, where a masquerade show was taking place on the street, and everyone was outside watching the show except me. My uncle came to me and asked why I didn’t go outside to watch the show, and I responded, “The fellow everyone will watch someday does not sit around watching shows.” Many years later, when God had lifted me, he reminded me of that day and said, “Today, the whole world is watching you.”

Beloved, what you invest in yourself is what will determine your height in life. While the other captives in the king of Babylon’s palace were busy dining and feasting on the king’s delicacies, Daniel and his three counterparts focused on consecrating themselves to the Lord (Daniel 1:3-12). I believe that they were not the only Jews in the king’s palace at that time, but they were the only ones who went on to do exploits because they invested the right resources in themselves.

Child of God, if you have big dreams that you want to see come to pass, then you must pay the price to invest in yourself. You must also let go of unnecessary weights, such as laziness and a lack of self-control, as well as impurities like sin, which can hinder you from fulfilling God’s plans for your life. I pray that you will fulfil God’s plans for your life, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven 11 August 2026 PRAYER POINTS

Father, please help me to invest the right resources in my life so I can fulfil Your plans for me, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven 11 August 2026 HYMN 20 – I’m Pressing On The Upward Way

1 I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining ev’ry day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Refrain:
Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith, on heaven’s tableland;
Where love, and joy, and light abound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2 My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

3 Beyond the mist I fain would rise,
To rest beneath unclouded skies,
Above earth’s turmoil peace is found,
By those who dwell on higher ground.

4 I long to scale the utmost height,
Though rough the way, and hard the flight,
My song, while climbing, shall resound,
Lord, lead me on to higher ground

5 Lord, lead me up the mountain side,
I dare not climb without my Guide;
And, heaven gained, I’ll gaze around,
With grateful heart from higher ground.

Unlock Ageless Confidence: 4 Standing Exercises to Transform Belly Overhang Faster Than Pilates After 60

0

Forget the exercise mat! These four standing routines target your core while ramping up energy expenditure beyond your current fitness level.

>

Pilates is lauded for its ability to strengthen the core, but if your aim after 60 is to tackle belly fat, solely relying on this form of exercise might not be the most time-efficient strategy. While Pilates excels at enhancing core power, it doesn’t necessarily provide the comprehensive body strength needed to effectively combat belly fat as we age.

Excess belly fat is a result of overall body fat, and research indicates that targeting just the underlying muscles is not enough for spot reduction. To lose weight healthily, the focus should be on elevating your daily calorie burn while developing lean muscle mass throughout the body. Instead of depending on heavy weights that can strain aging joints, standing exercises present an effective, joint-friendly alternative for meeting those goals.

Trends from the National Institutes of Health reveal that adults begin losing muscle mass every decade starting around age 30, with the rate accelerating significantly after 60. Given that muscle tissue is metabolically active, its loss leads to a slower metabolism, facilitating weight gain. Thankfully, standing exercises not only assist in building strength but also help maintain muscle, ensuring your metabolism remains efficient and calorie-burning, thus promoting weight loss and a slimmer waistline.

“Building muscle becomes even more critical as we age, as it sustains metabolism and underpins long-term weight management,” Bickerstaff notes.

Sit-to-Stand Squats

The sit-to-stand squat trains one of the most important movements in daily life: getting up out of a chair. Since it loads your largest lower body muscles while keeping your core engaged, it burns more calories than doing isolated ab exercises.

How to do it:

  1. Sit on the edge of a sturdy chair with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Lean slightly forward at your hips.
  3. Engage your core.
  4. Stand up by driving through your heels.
  5. Lower yourself back to the chair with control.
  6. Aim for two to three sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 60 to 90 seconds between sets.

If You Can Hold a Wall Sit This Long After 60, Your Leg Strength Is Top-Tier

Step-ups

Step-ups build strength in your glutes, quads, and calves while raising your heart rate, giving you a strength and cardio boost all in a single move. They’re also easier on your joints compared to traditional lower body exercises like squats or leg press.

How to do it:

  1. Stand in front of a sturdy step.
  2. Place one foot firmly onto the step.
  3. Press through your heel to lift your body up.
  4. Bring the opposite foot onto the step.
  5. Lower yourself back down with control.
  6. Complete all reps on one side before switching legs.
  7. Complete two to three sets of 8 to 12 reps per leg, resting for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Standing Knee Raises

“Standing knee raises strengthen your deep abdominal muscles without getting down onto the floor,” explains Bickerstaff. “They also help improve balance, coordination, and hip mobility.” Additionally, lifting one knee at a time forces your core to stabilize your body, so you build balance and coordination alongside core strength.

How to do it:

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Hold onto a chair or wall for support if needed.
  3. Flex your ab muscles.
  4. Slowly lift one knee toward your chest without leaning backward.
  5. Lower it back down with control.
  6. Repeat, then change sides.
  7. Perform two to three sets of 10 to 15 reps per side. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Is Walking 30 Minutes a Day Enough to Stay Fit After 60?

Standing Wood Chops

The standing wood chop is the move that ties the whole routine together, because it works your entire core rather than isolating your abs. The diagonal, rotational pattern also helps build the twisting strength and stability you use every time you reach, lift, or turn, which tends to decline with age.

How to do it:

  1. Hold a light dumbbell or medicine ball with both hands.
  2. Start with your hands beside one hip.
  3. Rotate your torso to lift the weight diagonally across your body.
  4. Finish with your hands above the opposite shoulder.
  5. Return slowly to the starting position.
  6. Repeat on the same side, then switch sides.
  7. Aim for two to three sets of 10 to 12 reps per side, resting for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Marcellus Wiley Cleared: Former NFL Star Faces No Charges in Domestic Battery Case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Recent court documents viewable on News 6 reveal that former NFL athlete and TV commentator Marcellus Wiley, who faced arrest in Orange County last month, will not see charges formally pursued against him.

Everything began when deputies were summoned to the World Center Marriott along World Center Drive during the bustling Fourth of July celebrations, the records disclose.

The arrest affidavit indicates Wiley’s wife claimed to officers that he had jabbed her cheek the day before. She also expressed her fear of him and alleged he had made threats to her life.

However, Wiley, now 51, refuted these claims, insisting no physical exchange occurred. He presented deputies with text messages which, he argued, showed mutual friendliness between them. The deputies also reported an absence of noticeable injuries and that there were no witnesses who saw the alleged confrontation.

Court records unveiled on Monday disclosed that the case would not proceed to charges due to the unsubstantiated testimonial evidence, lacking enough corroboration for a conviction to be secured.

Wiley has played for multiple NFL teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Colombia Earthquake Catastrophe: 111 Lives Lost in Devastating 7.4 Tremor

0

In response to a devastating earthquake, Colombia has declared a state of emergency. The powerful tremor resulted in at least 111 fatalities and caused widespread destruction, leaving many more people trapped beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Registering at a magnitude of 7.4, the earthquake struck western Colombia late Monday, setting off a desperate race to find survivors amid the debris in several urban areas.

From the country’s capital, Bogota, Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella assured the nation, saying, “The national government is utilizing all resources at its disposal to protect lives, assist affected communities, and distribute aid to every area in need.”

Having only assumed office three days ago, President Espriella reported that the catastrophe resulted in 111 deaths and injured 87 individuals, while more than 1,000 buildings suffered damage.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located in the coastal Choco region of Colombia, at a depth of 100 kilometers. This impoverished area alone reported 12 casualties, highlighting the widespread impact of the disaster.

The nearby city of Pereira was one of the worst-hit areas, with local authorities earlier announcing that at least 40 people had died in the Risaralda region of which it is the provincial capital.

The quake crumpled a tower of a beloved cathedral in the city of Manizales.

A woman wearing a blue T-shirt is being helped by a man wearing a black singlet

“A great many buildings” in the city sustained damage, administrative worker Jaime Zuluaga, 50, said.

“Traffic is paralysed and people don’t want to go back to their homes for fear of an aftershock.”

‘Missing people’ trapped beneath the rubble

At least 20 buildings crumbled in Colombia’s third-largest city, Cali, trapping people beneath the debris, mayor Alejandro Eder said.

Choco’s governor warned of serious damage in the provincial capital Quibdo, where videos showed more buildings reduced to rubble.

“We are all devastated,” Quibdo community leader Luis Gregorio Moreno told the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.

“At this moment there are reported deaths, dozens of wounded, but what there are most of are missing people,” he said.

Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela also felt the early-morning quake, which prompted building evacuations in the Colombian capital, Bogota.

Still wearing their pyjamas, crowds of people rushed out into the street upon feeling the tremor, AFP reporters saw.

“The quake was very, very strong,” said content creator Valeria Polo, 29, in the capital, where only minimal damage was recorded.

Six small airports in western Colombia suspended operations, the civil aeronautics agency said, and the soccer governing body postponed upcoming football matches.

The United States was “closely monitoring the large earthquake that struck Colombia and stands ready to support the people of Colombia,” US secretary of state Marco Rubio said in a post on X.

European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen said the EU was “ready to provide more support” to the South American country.

“We have already mobilised Copernicus, our satellite service, to help with rescue operations,” she wrote on social media.

Mexico, Ecuador and France also offered assistance.

Latin America is already reeling from two disastrous quakes that struck Venezuela in June, killing more than 6,000 people and causing widespread destruction.

Mom’s Boyfriend Waited to Report 2-Year-Old’s Death, Cops Say

In a heart-wrenching case, a Georgia man stands accused of concealing the body of a two-year-old boy in a wooded area behind their apartment complex and later falsely reporting him as missing after a significant delay.

The suspect, 23-year-old Dairon Keith, faces charges for both concealing the death of another individual and providing false statements to law enforcement in relation to the tragic demise of Messiah Harris, according to an email from Marietta police received by Law&Crime.

Keith, identified as the boyfriend of Messiah’s mother, alerted authorities to the child’s disappearance around 2 p.m. on Friday from their apartment located on 8 Ridge Run. He alleged that Messiah was last seen approximately half an hour before making the 911 call. Unfortunately, Messiah’s lifeless body was discovered by police nearly five hours later, hidden behind the apartment complex.

Investigators reported that Keith allegedly gave conflicting accounts that raised suspicions of deceit. He is accused of transporting Messiah’s body into the wooded area behind the complex, where he attempted to conceal it under soil and loose vegetation.

“Preliminary indications are that his body had been in the woods for a considerable amount of time,” cops wrote.

A medical examiner is conducting an autopsy that will determine a cause and manner of death that could lead to additional charges. Cops did not mention Messiah’s mother in the press release.

Officers arrested Keith and took him to the Cobb County Jail, where he is being held without bond. His next court date is not listed.

Messiah was just weeks away from his third birthday. He lived in the apartment complex with his mother, her boyfriend and other siblings, next-door neighbor Matt Ducre told local ABC affiliate WSB. Ducre said he remembered last seeing Messiah in Keith’s arms.

“He was holding him and saying he was fixing to be three,” Ducre said.

Stassie Karanikolaou Reveals Why She Missed Kylie’s Birthday

Stassie, who is also 29, has navigated the rumor mill before when it comes to her longtime friendship with Kylie Jenner. Their connection dates back to a chance meeting at Barnes & Noble during their middle school years. In 2021, whispers of a rift grew louder when Kylie was conspicuously absent from Stassie’s birthday celebration photos, sparking widespread speculation.

Addressing the swirling rumors, Stassie expressed her disbelief in an interview with Bustle, saying, “It’s nuts because I’m like, ‘I’ve known this girl since I was literally 13.’ If you think that [because] we don’t post a photo together for a month we’re not friends, you’re insane.”

Despite the gossip, the pair has continued to maintain a close bond. Kylie has even described Stassie as being akin to a “sister.”

Reflecting on their enduring relationship during a 2023 episode of The Kardashians, Kylie remarked, “She’s definitely my oldest friend. We grew up together, we’ve been through so much together.”

Curious about how Kylie has evolved over the years? Stay tuned to discover more about her journey.

Chrissy Metz Credits GLP-1 for Stunning 100-lb Weight Loss Transformation

Chrissy Metz has revealed a key factor in her impressive weight loss journey: the use of a GLP-1 medication. The actress, best known for her role on “This Is Us,” disclosed this after shedding an astonishing 100 pounds last year.

The 45-year-old shared her decision came after long-term struggles with ineffective dieting. Despite her efforts, Metz felt compelled to explore new options given her family’s history with obesity and her personal health challenges, including the onset of perimenopause.

“I’m not getting any younger,” Metz confessed in a recent People magazine interview. “With obesity issues prevalent in my family and my father, I felt it was time to try something different after numerous diets and therapies that didn’t yield results.”

Having teamed up with Ro, a digital health firm specializing in GLP-1 medications, Metz did not disclose when she began taking the medication or the specific type. Initially skeptical, she now describes her experience with the weight-loss aid as “great” and beneficial.

“It’s refreshing not to be constantly preoccupied with every meal choice,” she elaborated. “My past was plagued by a negative relationship with food, where I was taught to demonize it, thinking certain things shouldn’t be eaten.”

She acknowledged that “judgy” people will have a lot to say about her decision, but she isn’t giving them attention.

“It doesn’t matter, because like I always say, they’re not in my life,” she explained. “They’re not in my doctor’s notes. They’re not in the hereditary issues my family has.”

Metz added that she’s still working on building muscle with a trainer and hasn’t put a number on how much weight she wants to lose.

“I’m just a regular old girl who is trying her best,” she insisted.

In April 2025, Metz told the Daily Mail she had lost 100 pounds thanks to strength training. She gave a diplomatic answer when asked if she would ever try Ozempic at the time.

“It’s something I feel like, it is so personal and sure, I think it’s important to like destigmatize anything,” she said. “But I also think it’s people’s personal decision to decide what it is that they want to do for their body.”

“I think ultimately, at the end of the day, we all just want to feel good and feel good about ourselves,” she added.

Still, she noted of her skittishness to ever getting weight-loss surgery, “I don’t even take Tylenol, like, I really am such a weirdo that way. I’m like, ‘Yeah, no.’”
