Exclusive: Emma Roberts’ Intimate Wedding Moments Revealed

0

Emma Roberts is offering a glimpse into her enchanting Idaho nuptials with Cody John.

The actress took to Instagram on Thursday to unveil heartwarming behind-the-scenes photos. Her post, succinctly tagged “lately,” opens with a touching snapshot of the couple’s marriage license.

In the photograph, the 35-year-old star of “Unfabulous” and her groom, aged 36, are seen beneath a sign marked “Auditor and Recorder.”

Exchanging smiles, the beloved pair stood in the office of the clerk.

Roberts donned a floor-skimming pink gown, paired with chic white sunglasses and slingback heels, her hair cascading elegantly.

John, for his part, paired a Sun Valley jacket with colorful shorts and green sneakers.

In the social media upload’s second slide, the duo packed on the PDA in a photobooth strip — and closed the slideshow with sweet shots cozied up to each other.

Roberts’ 5-year-old son, Rhodes, also appeared in the post as well, with the “Scream Queens” alum holding him in her arms after the July wedding ceremony.

The little one, notably, walked Roberts down the aisle — as her dad, Eric Roberts, was not present for the last month’s nuptials.

“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” the actor, 70, subsequently told Page Six in an exclusive statement.

“It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants,” Eric continued.

His sister Julia Roberts was present when Emma and John said “I do” — and shared her “love” for the newlyweds in an Instagram comment Thursday.

The “American Horror Story” alum started dating John in 2022 after being set up by a mutual friend, and he proposed two years later.

When they tied the knot at John’s family’s Idaho home, the bride stunned in four dresses, including a black one.

“I love[d] the idea of wearing black for the after-party,” Emma told Vogue, quipping that she wanted to do “something that’s a little unexpected.”

Trump Unveils Stunning UFO Files: Shocking Videos and Heart-Stopping Encounters Revealed

0

In a surprising development, the Trump administration has unveiled a new batch of previously classified UFO documents, bringing to light numerous reports and intriguing videos that had been obscured from public view.

This recent release, marking the fifth installment which arrived on Friday, features spine-chilling descriptions of massive triangular crafts, enigmatic high-speed orbs, and even a metallic sphere rumored to be harboring a human body.

One of the most remarkable accounts comes from a military pilot, who reported an encounter with a silent, 500-foot triangular object that silently glided over Bagram Airfield, a base operated by the United States, back in 2002.

The report details how the pilot, along with a fellow aviator, was engaged in stargazing at around 4:30 a.m., when they suddenly noticed that the stars began to vanish from sight above them.

“It felt as though an enormous object passed overhead,” the summary of the FBI interview reveals.

The pilot described the object as an equilateral triangle that moved silently across the sky at a steady speed and altitude, despite displaying no visible lights.

Another file recounts claims that a large metal sphere crashed into the center of Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro in 1963, gouging a hole 13 feet deep.

The mysterious object reportedly had window-shaped openings covered with thick glass, and contained a human body dressed in heavy clothing bearing inscriptions that could not be deciphered.

However, the records preserve witness statements and media reports rather than verified government findings, and they offer no evidence that either object was extraterrestrial.

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said in a statement: ‘The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.

‘These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation, and it’s time the American people see it for themselves.

‘This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.’

One of the records, a three-page FBI interview summary, details the pilot’s alleged encounter with the enormous triangular craft over Bagram.

The witness said he and another pilot were watching the night sky when stars began disappearing from view, as though they were being obscured by something passing overhead.

‘It appeared as if something huge went overhead,’ the interview summary states.

He estimated that the equilateral object measured approximately 500 feet across and was traveling at around 173mph.

Despite its enormous size, it allegedly maintained a steady speed and altitude without making any sound or displaying visible lights.

The second pilot reportedly witnessed it too, asking: ‘Did you see that?’ as it passed above them.

The witness said he did not report the encounter at the time and later failed to find anything that could explain what they had observed.

The same file reveals that the pilot subsequently reported unexplained lights during commercial flights beginning in October 2023.

He first noticed them while flying from Boston to Dublin at 37,000 feet and believed they were hovering at least 13,000 feet above his aircraft.

The lights reportedly brightened and faded in cycles lasting between 10 seconds and one minute. Some remained stationary while others traveled in straight lines or suddenly changed direction.

Although they resembled aircraft landing lights, the pilot said their behavior did not match planes, meteors, satellites or Starlink.

He claimed to have witnessed the phenomenon approximately 10 times, with individual encounters lasting from 45 minutes to two hours.

Friday's release included another encounter with a mysterious triangular craft that appeared over Colorado Springs in October 2023

Friday’s release included another encounter with a mysterious triangular craft that appeared over Colorado Springs in October 2023

During a flight in February 2024, he recorded more than 10 lights moving and changing brightness as his aircraft traveled at approximately Mach 0.80 near Sioux Falls.

The pilot said he never felt threatened and believed the lights remained at least 100 miles away.

A separate FBI file describes an even more dramatic encounter involving a giant black triangle over Colorado Springs in October 2023.

The witness told agents that he was standing outside with a co-worker on a clear night when a strange, dark-gray cloud appeared in the sky.

He described the cloud as stationary and seemingly ‘pixelated or distorted’ before a red light emerged from it.

As he watched, an enormous solid-black triangle reportedly came into view, displaying a diffuse red light at each of its three corners.

The witness estimated that the object was as large as the parking lot where he was standing and measured between three and five stories thick.

It initially traveled at a speed comparable to a helicopter before ‘almost instantaneously’ accelerating to what he believed was Mach 1 or Mach 2.

He claimed waves appeared to radiate from the craft, producing a shimmering distortion similar to the mirage seen above a hot road.

Another newly released study analyzed films of unidentified objects recorded over Utah and Montana in the early 1950s

Despite its apparent size and speed, the triangle allegedly generated no noise, displayed no visible propulsion and produced no unusual odor.

The witness said it then abruptly rolled 90 degrees onto its left side while veering right, the opposite direction in which a conventional aircraft would normally bank, before quickly returning to level flight.

After the object disappeared to the south, he looked back and discovered that the strange cloud from which it had emerged had also vanished.

Around a minute later, he called his wife to describe what he had seen, but she told him his voice sounded ‘robotic,’ as though electronic interference was disrupting the call.

The FBI report records the witness’s account but offers no conclusion about what he saw and does not independently verify his estimates of the object’s size, speed or altitude.

Another newly released study analyzed films of unidentified objects recorded over Utah and Montana in the early 1950s.

The objects appeared disk-shaped and blue-white, with analysts calculating that those in the Utah footage traveled at up to 2,457mph and endured acceleration reaching 965 times the force of gravity.

The report concluded that birds, balloons and conventional aircraft could not explain the calculated movements, describing the objects as neither identifiable natural phenomena nor ‘commonly known man-made objects.’

But those figures relied on assumptions about the objects’ distance from the camera, which analysts acknowledged was arbitrary.

In a bizarre 2026 encounter, two witnesses reported red lights descending over a remote area of the western US, with one allegedly hovering just six feet above the ground.

Another glow appeared to move through a dry wash around 330 feet behind them.

Afterward, one witness discovered that his mechanical watch had jumped 25 minutes ahead, while his phone, vehicle clock and his companion’s digital watch continued showing the correct time.

The watch allegedly continued running normally afterward, but remained 25 minutes fast.

This is a developing story… More updates to come.

On Instagram, David unveiled this exciting collaboration, sharing a promotional video where he savors one of Nespresso’s signature drinks.

Commenting on the new campaign, David expressed, ‘I’ve always been a fan of Nespresso coffee.’

He continued, ‘Whether I’m enjoying a quiet moment at home with my family or gearing up for a business meeting, the diverse blend options are fantastic. They’re easy to prepare, and every cup is a delight to taste.’

With Nespresso, David will share an exclusive view of the genuine coffee moments he enjoys.

This includes quiet moments to himself around his hectic schedule, making his favourite Nespresso coffees and recipes, highlighting how he needs a moment of mindfulness, either with family or to himself as part of his morning ritual.

Anna Lundstrom, CEO for Nespresso in the UK and ROI said: ‘David Beckham has always had an unforgettable style, taste and passion for creating elevated experiences which are many of the qualities of Nespresso.

‘We are delighted to be working with David to showcase his genuine love for the nations favourite drink and his journey of coffee discovery, as well as showing how even the routine coffee moments; with family, with friends, and ourselves, can make every day even more meaningful.’

This is just the latest in a long line of brand deals for David, with the sportsman seen posing for a campaign with Italian motorists Maserati in February.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that David earned a jaw-dropping £657,322 per week in 2022 – as he and his wife Victoria shared an £8million dividend from their business empire.

The power couple entered 2022 feeling flush after sales across their ventures surged following lockdowns – with the former Spice Girl’s fashion range making a loss.

Beckham Brand Holdings, which acts as the umbrella company for David’s investments and branding and Victoria’s fashion and beauty firm, revealed in accounts filed that profits for 2021 hit £19.1m, up from £11.6m a year earlier.

Most came from DB Ventures – the former England footballer’s brand is licensed to the likes of video games producer Electronic Arts, Adidas, watch company Tudor, whisky brand Haig Club and car manufacturer Maserati.

DB Ventures’ turnover shot up from £11.4million to £34million, while profits climbed from £12.9million to £24.1million.

Victoria’s arm, which has in the past been propped up by her husband’s success, saw losses fall from £8.7million to £5.9million as sales climbed 13 per cent to £40.9million.

Victoria Beckham Holdings, part-owned by the Beckhams and part-owned by London private equity firm Neo Investment Partners, kicked off a turnaround plan in 2021.

14-Year-Old’s Tragic School Shooting Linked to Bullying and Academic Pressure

0

In a tragic incident that unfolded in Thailand, police have disclosed that a teenager, who fatally shot his grandparents and then targeted a local school, had been coping with bullying and overwhelming school assignments.

This 14-year-old used his grandfather’s firearm to kill his grandparents before proceeding to a high school in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok, where he gunned down five members of the school staff.

Before he turned the weapon on himself, the attack left about 30 others wounded at the school.

Seventeen-year-old Purin Khumchoo recounted how he narrowly escaped the shooting spree.

“He was younger than me, and I sensed he was troubled,” Purin shared with AFP outside the school. “Friends who knew him mentioned he had a fascination with the FBI and firearms, and was bullied by many peers.”

‘When I saw him aiming the gun at me, I thought he looked very professional, as if he had been trained for a long time.’

The suspect was said to be an avid gamer, while a teacher at the school said that he was a ‘good kid with good study records’, and that he was not known to be aggressive.

Those killed at the school were all teachers and staff. Nine of those who were wounded are in critical condition, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said.

He added that the teenage suspect was ‘under stress’ and had planned the assault.

‘Police interrogated his close friend, who said the suspect had been under stress’ related to his schooling, Anutin told reporters outside the secondary school in Nonthaburi province, bordering Bangkok.

‘His actions also suggested that he had clearly planned (the shooting).’

Newly emerged images now show the suspect, dressed in the school’s purple uniform, stalking the building’s corridors as he appears to load up a handgun.

Photos published by local media show the suspect wearing a purple school uniform and carrying a black cross-body bag, with several bullet casings visible on the ground.

Pupils streamed out of the high school as the wounded were loaded onto ambulances and teachers hugged each other and cried.

In photos circulated by emergency workers, one person is seen lying down on a stretcher outside an ambulance, while a medic tends to another.

Lieutenant Colonel Dechrapee Kongdee, the Nonthaburi provincial police commander, confirmed earlier that the suspected shooter had died.

The gunman also allegedly killed his grandparents, whom he lived with, before going to the school. They were found dead at home, Thailand’s public health minister said.

A witness told reporters that pupils hid inside a classroom while they heard gunshots from another building before police officers knocked on the door and cleared a way for them to leave the building.

The suspect was reportedly seen reloading ammunition inside the building, according to sources at the scene.

Photos published by local media show the suspect wearing a purple school uniform and carrying a black cross-body bag, with several bullet casings visible on the ground.

Armed response units were deployed to the school while pupils and staff were evacuated from the campus.

One 18-year-old pupil told Reuters he initially thought firecrackers were going off or someone banging an object.

‘I didn’t think it was a gun at first,’ he said.

‘There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.’

Emergency worker Kiatikhun Verapongpradith, 47, described arriving as the shooting was ongoing and his team treated pupils with injuries in the back, chest and arms.

They found a male teacher lying dead on an upper floor of the school, and in another room they found a female teacher with wounds in her chest and arm.

‘We gave CPR for about 30 minutes and rushed her to the hospital as we could not get her heart rate up, but we tried our best,’ he said.

In the 2025 academic year, the school had an enrollment of around 3,100 pupils and 147 teachers, according to district authorities.

Police have been gathering evidence at the suspect’s home, Thailand’s deputy interior minister Polapee Suwanchawee said.

Deputy Education Minister Akkharanan Kannakittinan said in a statement he was coordinating to provide assistance.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul offered his condolences and said he had ordered relevant officials to take care of the victims.

‘It’s such a terrible incident. It should never have happened. How could this happen in our country?,’ he told reporters at Bangkok’s Government House.

The Debsirin School is a well-known secondary school in Thailand and has branches across the country.

The original Debsirin School in Bangkok was founded by Thai King Chulalongkorn in 1885.

Its school in Nonthaburi, where the shooting has taken place, is situated in the northwestern outskirts of Bangkok.

Following Friday’s shooting, an opposition leader called for Thai authorities to review the country’s gun control measures.

Thailand has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the region, with around 10 million firearms estimated to be in circulation – one for every seven inhabitants.

‘Although the motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time, an act of violence in an educational institution, which should be one of the safest places in our society, serves as a stark reminder for Thai society to seriously and systematically review gun control measures,’ Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People’s Party, wrote in a Facebook post.

In February, police shot and arrested a teenage shooter who opened fire at a school in the south of the country in February, leaving the school principal dead and two students injured.

The teen had used a police officer’s weapon in the shooting.

A local police chief said at the time that the suspect was hospitalised for psychiatric treatment in December and had been discharged.

The teen stabbed a police officer with a knife and stole his weapon – a 9mm pistol – just before the incident, and then used it to carry out the attack.

In 2022, an ex-policeman armed with a gun and a knife stormed into a nursery in the country’s north and murdered 24 children and 12 adults, one of Thailand’s deadliest massacres.

2026 Census Privacy: What ABS Can and Cannot Disclose

0

On Census night, Australians will share personal details, including their name and address, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

These particulars are kept strictly confidential and are not disclosed to police, migration authorities, or any governmental agency.

Jenny Telford, who manages the Census and Population division at the ABS, emphasized that the protection of personal data is of utmost importance.

“The ABS is bound by stringent safeguards, including legal provisions, ensuring that no information can be released in a manner that could identify individuals or households,” she explained to SBS News.

“As you complete the Census form, your name and address are detached early in our process from other responses, and we are committed to destroying these details after processing and compiling the necessary statistics for Australia.”

Who can access Census information?

Since 1911, names and addresses have been collected as part of the national Census of Population and Housing.

The ABS reports collecting this information improves the “accuracy and efficiency of data linkage” and the quality of statistics.

The agency also states people’s addresses are collected to:

  • Produce accurate population estimates for regions
  • Ensure that no household is missed in the Census
  • Provide insights into internal migration within Australia

A crowd of people lay on the grass and on picnic blankets in a park overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the ocean.

After the Census processing period is complete, no-one working with Census data is able to view personal identifiers at the same time as survey results.

What the ABS can and cannot share

Names included in this year’s Census forms will be retained for up to 18 months after the Census, until the end of February 2028. Addresses are retained for a maximum of 36 months until the end of August 2029.

People can also choose to have their information preserved for 99 years as part of the Census Time Capsule. This information is securely transferred to the National Archives of Australia, the agency responsible for collecting and preserving government documents.

Personal information cannot be accessed for any reason until 2125. If a person elects to transfer their information to the archives, this decision cannot be reversed, according to the ABS.

A man wearing a white helmet and a black vest cycles through the city in a bike lane.

All ABS staff, including temporary employees, are legally bound to never release information collected during the Census. This includes staff past or present.

Penalties for sharing information collected during the Census (whether directly or indirectly) include fines of up to $26,400 and up to two years’ imprisonment.

Personal information is protected under the 1905 Census and Statistics Act.

Unlock Crime Insights: GPD’s Latest Flock Cameras Update

0

GPD Assistant Police Chief Efrain Torres was introduced at the meeting

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a significant update at the Gainesville City Commission meeting held on August 6, Police Chief Nelson Moya provided insights into the current crime statistics and elaborated on the deployment of Flock cameras by the Gainesville Police Department (GPD). Alarmingly, the data revealed a 22% surge in violent crimes over the past year.

Chief Nelson Moya kicked off the quarterly briefing by introducing Assistant Police Chief Efrain Torres, setting the stage for a detailed discussion of crime trends in Gainesville.

Reflecting on past achievements, Moya highlighted a notable 16% decline in overall crime and a 10% drop in violent crime between 2024 and 2025. However, the first half of 2026 presents a mixed picture: while there is a continued overall crime reduction of 6%, violent crimes have notably surged by 22%. Disturbingly, homicides have skyrocketed by 133%, with rapes up by 27%, robberies by 22%, and aggravated assaults by 20%. Moya offered context on the increase in rape cases, noting, “It’s gone from 74 to 94… We’re only talking about 20 extra cases.”

Incident data from January to June 2026 (click to enlarge)

Further analyzing the uptick in rape statistics, Moya pointed to an increase in incidents within some houseless encampments, describing a disturbing trend of “exceptional violence” that warrants concern. The agency remains hopeful that ongoing efforts to engage with the houseless community and provide essential services will help curb this trend and reduce these alarming numbers.

Firearm statistics for the first and second quarters of 2026

The number of confirmed shots fired increased from 11 in the first quarter of 2026 to 14 in the second quarter; seven people were shot in each quarter; and the number of suicides increased from three to five.

Domestic violence

Captain Summer Hallett said GPD added a detective to assist with the recent focus on domestic violence, and GPD representatives met in June and July with the Child Advocacy Center, Peaceful Paths, the State Attorney’s Office, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the University of Florida Police Department, victim advocates, Elder Affairs, the Combined Communications Center, and the Alachua County Crisis Center.

GPD has committed to writing reports on all domestic disturbances, whether or not anyone is charged, “because sometimes, if those go undocumented, they will escalate… to violence,” Hallett said. She said GPD would like to provide services to families before it gets to that point. GPD is also updating its domestic violence policies, along with the sexual battery policy and other criminal investigations policies.

One idea that came out of the meetings was to have a single email address for reporting violations of domestic violence injunctions so the victim doesn’t have to wait until victim advocates or detectives are in the office.

Flock cameras

Mayor Harvey Ward mentioned recent social media posts from a person “who was absolutely convinced that we’ve spent millions of dollars on Flock cameras at the City of Gainesville, and it gets out of hand pretty quickly, what people believe about what’s actually happening.” He said he had asked Moya to be prepared to talk about GPD’s use of Flock cameras.

Chief Moya began by expressing his “support of technology that helps us fight crime… It is a tool, provided that tool has some safeguards, so it is not used irresponsibly.” He said, “At last check, we have 10 of them, 10 different locations, and… about five other locations through another vendor; both provide the same data.”

Chief Moya: “Flock, even with a subpoena, will not give us any data past 30 days.”

He said GPD’s contract with Flock allows the servers to retain the data for up to 30 days: “Flock, even with a subpoena, will not give us any data past 30 days. It’s also important to note that Flock and their servers are under the regulations stipulated by the DOJ through the FBI, hence through FDLE, and hence [Florida’s] Criminal Justice Information System; they are the ones that regulate the technical aspect of the storage, as they inspect Flock.”

Moya said he was not aware of any local breaches or misuses of Flock data. He said nobody sits and monitors the Flock cameras; the cameras capture a tag, and the system pulls the registration information for the tag and checks that the registered owner has a valid driver’s license. Moya said, “It does not have a facial recognition component.” He said it also provides alerts for Amber Alerts that are tied to a specific tag, along with stolen vehicles and stolen tags.

Moya said the agency can also do specific searches: “For example, if we know that we’re dealing with a shooting suspect and he’s driving a black Mazda, we can input that to the system so that it gives us alerts on black Mazdas — but beyond that, it is strictly and solely used [on a historical basis], based on reported crimes.”

Moya said the cameras are important “from a public safety aspect: the cases that I know for sure have yielded success… [are] irreplaceable.”

Chief Moya: “If you’re a police officer, you can’t sit there [and] type in a tag [without entering] an active case number.”

Moya said GPD has “parameters [and] policies in place internally… that manage who enters our portal… If you’re a police officer, you can’t sit there [and] type in a tag [without entering] an active case number.” An administrator than tracks which cases are being entered, “to ensure that it is relevant to public safety. So there is no free-for-all, where we can sit there and look up a tag to see if a Commissioner is going by this intersection at what time.”

Moya concluded, “It is a network that is extremely beneficial to law enforcement in general, not solely here, but throughout our country.”

Ward asked Moya to confirm that GPD’s Flock cameras “are specifically license plate readers,” and Moya said that was correct. Ward added, “Flock has other kinds of cameras, but we are using license plate readers”; Moya again confirmed that was correct.

“A process of inspection, audit, and accountability”

Moya said it’s his responsibility to “infuse a process of inspection, audit, and accountability” around access to the data.

Commissioner Bryan Eastman said he wanted to do a “deep dive” into that at a future meeting: “What we’re talking about is a much larger question about how we collect data, how we share that data, how much our police department utilizes that data, and how we make sure it’s not misused.”

Commissioner James Ingle said, “As I’ve found with almost every part of the City, I’m consistently impressed with how much outside the normal job description people think of, when they think of a police department, a fire department, Parks and Rec, or any of that – like, how over and above pretty much every part of the City does, and I think this shows a lot of that.”

Maraji Slams Bold Prediction Against Peller and Jarvis’ Marriage: “The Audacity!

In response to a man’s remark about the age gap in the marriage of TikTok luminaries Peller and Jarvis, esteemed Nigerian comedian and content creator Maraji did not hold back.

The man confidently forecasted that the couple’s union was doomed due to their age difference.

Maraji was not at all pleased with this man’s assuredness when it came to making predictions about another’s relationship.

Her reaction highlighted her objection to the seemingly unfounded confidence displayed by the individual, who presumed to know the fate of Peller and Jarvis’s marriage.

Maraji’s disapproval sheds light on the broader conversation around making hasty judgments, particularly about relationships, based on superficial observations like age differences.

Expressing her disbelief, Maraji questioned the audacity behind making such a definitive statement about the future of Peller and Jarvis’ marriage.

Her reaction comes amid ongoing public interest in the relationship between Peller and Jarvis, whose romance has continued to attract attention from fans and social media users.

While their relationship has received support from many admirers, it has also faced criticism and speculation, particularly concerning their age gap and how it could affect their future together.

However, Maraji’s response suggests that she believes people should be more cautious about making sweeping judgments about other people’s relationships based solely on age differences.

The debate has once again highlighted the scrutiny celebrities and social media personalities often face, with their personal relationships becoming subjects of public discussion and predictions.

The 26-year-old, using a pseudonym to maintain her privacy, initially chalked up her deteriorating health to a virus. However, as the days extended into a bout of worsening symptoms, her instincts pointed elsewhere.

A thought gradually crystallized: the onset of her troubles coincided with her switch to a different medication for her attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

ADHD, a condition impacting around 15.5 million adults and nearly seven million children in the United States, is characterized by ongoing challenges with focus, impulsivity, and sometimes, hyperactivity.

Diagnosed in 2021, Sarah had been prescribed lisdexamfetamine, sold under the brand name Vyvanse. It had controlled her symptoms well, she says.

But when her health insurer stopped covering the dose she needed, her psychiatrist prescribed an alternative medication containing methylphenidate, also known as Relexxii.

And that, she realized, is when her problems began.

‘I had almost no physical energy, but I felt mentally hyper for some reason,’ said Sarah. ‘I was so confused, dizzy and anxious, I actually thought I could be dying.

‘And then I suddenly thought, this all started when I was switched to Relexxii. I tried to call my doctor, but couldn’t get through.

‘The pharmacist suggested going to urgent care, but I felt too dreadful – so I decided just to stop taking the tablets.’

Within 24 hours, the vomiting had eased. Over the following week, she slowly began to recover, although it took several weeks for her to feel back to normal.

Sarah has since found a new psychiatrist, who prescribed a different ADHD medication that controls her symptoms without causing the same side effects.

But the experience has left her shaken.

‘I had no idea a medication could make you feel like that,’ she said. ‘It was terrifying.’

Sarah’s reaction was severe. But millions of Americans take ADHD medication – often for years, and sometimes for life.

And, according to some experts, remarkably little is known about the long-term benefits and risks of taking these drugs.

The issue came into sharp focus last year when a British coroner linked the death of a 28-year-old finance worker to his ADHD medication.

Jacob Wooderson, from London, suffered sudden arrhythmic death syndrome – when a young and seemingly healthy person dies of cardiac arrest – shortly after his dose of Elvanse, also known as lisdexamfetamine, was increased.

In the wake of his death, experts on both sides of the Atlantic warned that the case highlighted broader questions about the safety of ADHD treatments.

There is little doubt these medications have transformed many patients’ lives. But psychiatrists who spoke to the Daily Mail say major questions remain over their long-term effectiveness and their possible effects on both physical and mental health.

The most commonly prescribed ADHD medications – including lisdexamfetamine, mixed amphetamine salts (Adderall) and methylphenidate (Ritalin and Concerta) – are stimulants.

They work by increasing levels of the brain chemicals dopamine and norepinephrine, which help regulate attention, motivation, alertness and impulse control.

By boosting the activity of these chemical messengers, the drugs can help people concentrate for longer, reduce impulsive behavior and, for many, better manage the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Although non-stimulant medications are also available, they account for a minority of prescriptions.

Until relatively recently, ADHD was widely regarded as a childhood disorder that many youngsters would eventually grow out of.

Today, it is increasingly recognized as a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition. As a result, millions of adults now take ADHD medication every day, with many expected to remain on treatment for years – if not decades.

Awareness of the condition has also been boosted by high-profile figures speaking openly about their diagnoses, including Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles, actor Tom Holland and swimming legend Michael Phelps.

Biles, now 29, revealed she had ADHD after her confidential medical records were leaked following the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was reportedly diagnosed at nine years old, and said she had taken medication since childhood and insisted there was ‘nothing to be ashamed of.’

Holland, 30, has spoken about being diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia as a child, while 41-year-old Phelps has said he was diagnosed aged nine and learned to channel his symptoms into his record-breaking swimming career after stopping medication as a teenager.

The number of prescriptions for ADHD medications reflects this shift in attitude.

Stimulant prescriptions nearly doubled over the past decade, climbing from 50.4 million in 2012 to 80.8 million in 2023 – a 60 percent increase.

That shift, some experts say, has raced ahead of the evidence.

‘There’s no way to know they’re safe if you take them for life because we’ve studied them for at most a few months, and most drug studies of this sort do not focus very thoroughly on adverse effects,’ Professor Joanna Moncrieff told the Daily Mail.

‘The benefits are not clear-cut at the very least. Lots of people do not benefit, and we don’t know whether those benefits are sustained if people take the medication for long periods either.’

Among the biggest concerns are the effects these drugs may have on the heart.

Stimulants are known to increase heart rate and blood pressure, prompting doctors to exercise caution in patients with existing cardiovascular disease.

More recently, a growing body of research has raised questions about whether years of treatment could also increase the risk of more serious heart problems.

A landmark 2024 Swedish study of more than 278,000 people with ADHD found that taking the drugs for longer than three to five years was associated with a 23 percent higher risk of cardiovascular disease overall, with particularly large increases in the risk of high blood pressure.

A second study, published in 2025, found that adults with pre-existing conditions – especially heart disease – were far more likely to experience cardiovascular side effects while taking stimulant medication.

‘To be clear, that association does not establish that the medication directly caused those outcomes,’ board-certified psychiatrist Dr Barry K Herman told the Daily Mail. ‘But it does reinforce the need for ongoing monitoring rather than treating stimulant prescriptions as ‘set it and forget it’.’

The American Heart Association recommends clinicians assess patients for fainting, dizziness with exertion, chest pain, and family history of sudden cardiac death before prescribing stimulants.

‘Physicians should review patient cardiovascular and psychiatric history and obtain baseline blood pressure, pulse, weight, and height before prescribing stimulants,’ Goodman said.

‘Older adults on stimulant medications should have regular monitoring of their vital signs and, for adults over 40, a regular checkup with a primary care provider and occasional electrocardiogram.’

Another area attracting growing attention is a possible link between long-term stimulant use and Parkinson’s disease, although the evidence remains limited.

One population study, published in Neuropsychopharmacology, found that people prescribed psychostimulants for ADHD were more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease or related movement disorders later in life than those who had not received the drugs.

‘The neurological effects are something people need to know about,’ Professor Moncrieff said.

‘That’s based on a small number of studies looking at Parkinson’s and related disorders in people taking both recreational and prescribed stimulants. To me, it hasn’t received as much attention as it deserves.’

Psychosis is another concern.

Research has linked high doses of amphetamine-based ADHD medications to an increased risk of new-onset psychosis or mania, although experts stress that such reactions remain rare.

‘The risk of psychosis is rare but real,’ New York psychiatrist Dr Dan Goodman told the Daily Mail.

A study published in BMJ Mental Health followed more than 16,000 adults in Iceland who began ADHD medication between 2010 and 2022. Within a year, 61 patients—around one in 264—had been hospitalized with their first episode of psychosis or mania.

‘Although important, these findings should be placed in context,’ Goodman said. ‘The absolute risk remains low, and observational studies cannot prove that stimulants caused psychosis. However, the evidence is consistent with other research suggesting higher doses of amphetamine-based stimulants carry a greater risk than methylphenidate.’

He said patients should be prescribed the lowest effective dose and monitored closely, particularly when starting treatment or increasing their dose.

Some patients also report more subtle psychological changes while taking stimulant medication. Rather than dramatic side effects, they describe feeling emotionally flattened or less like themselves.

‘[The medications] damp emotions,’ Moncrieff said. ‘They seem to work by increasing people’s focus on boring things and reducing their tendency to think laterally and creatively.’

She believes some patients can also experience emotional blunting that affects relationships and their sense of identity.

‘The emotional numbing is likely to interfere with relationships and people’s ability to empathize with others,’ she said.

Then there is another question: just how much benefit do these drugs provide over the long term?

There is little doubt ADHD medications can improve focus and reduce hyperactivity in the short term. But a growing body of research suggests those immediate improvements do not always translate into better grades, higher academic achievement or lasting improvements in quality of life.

A 2024 umbrella review of 115 meta-analyses found no high-certainty evidence that any ADHD treatment – drug or non-drug – delivered sustained long-term benefits.

Perhaps the most influential evidence comes from the landmark Multimodal Treatment Study of ADHD (MTA), the largest long-term trial of ADHD treatment.

While medication produced significant improvements initially, those benefits had largely disappeared by the three-year follow-up.

Sixteen years later, researchers found no evidence that people who continued taking medication had fewer ADHD symptoms than those who did not.

Professor Moncrieff said: ‘People taking amphetamines might think they’re doing brilliantly.

‘But we need objective research on whether they actually improve people’s performance, and the research that we have does not suggest that they do.’

Experts stress that none of this means people should stop taking their medication.

‘When discussing ADHD medications, it’s important to have a balanced perspective,’ Dr Lauren Grawert, a double board-certified psychiatrist and addiction psychiatrist, told the Daily Mail.

‘They can dramatically improve people’s lives, reducing accidents and helping at school, work and in everyday life. But they should be carefully monitored over time.’

Dr Omotolu Aje-Omokore, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who treats ADHD patients, said: ‘These medications deserve the same thoughtful prescribing and ongoing monitoring as any other treatment,’ he said.

‘When the right medication is matched to the right patient, with regular follow-up and open communication, the benefits often far outweigh the risks.’
