GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Bruce Randal Davis, 62, was arrested early this morning after allegedly throwing a spear-tip blade at a housemate.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s deputy was called to a home in Arredondo Estates at about 11:37 p.m. on October 18. Four people were in the front yard when the deputy arrived, and all reportedly lived at the residence.
Davis reportedly acknowledged that he had argued with the alleged victim. The victim told the deputy that Davis had thrown a knife at him, threatened to kill him and that he wanted to press charges.
The deputy separated the individuals at the scene. Davis initially declined to answer questions before being handcuffed and placed in a patrol vehicle.
The victim reportedly said Davis was intoxicated and had been disrupting the household. During the confrontation, Davis allegedly threatened to kill him and threw a knife that struck and became lodged in a floorboard near his feet.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, Davis reportedly agreed to speak with the deputy. He admitted arguing with the victim but denied throwing a knife. When asked whether a bladed weapon had been involved, Davis described a spear-tip blade he was using to build an antique weapon and consented to the deputy entering his bedroom to retrieve it.
The deputy reportedly located a spear-tip blade embedded in the staircase leading down into the room, matching the victim’s description. The victim identified it as the weapon Davis had allegedly thrown.
Davis faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His record includes nine felony convictions, including two for violent offenses, as well as three misdemeanor convictions, two of them violent. He has served three state prison sentences and was most recently released in 2021. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $20,000.

President Donald Trump swiftly softened his criticism of a reporter on Monday after dismissing her question as “fake news.”
Trump was speaking to journalists before departing for Kansas, where he planned to campaign for Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections. During the exchange, a reporter asked how he responded to claims that French President Emmanuel Macron had held him responsible for violent unrest across France.
“I think that’s fake news,” Trump said before turning to the journalist and asking which outlet she represented.
“No sir,” she replied. “I’m Mary Margaret [Olohan] with The Daily Wire.”
Trump’s expression appeared to change once he recognized the publication, and he responded with a smile: “Oh, Daily Wire’s good. Sorry, The Daily Wire’s good.”
He then addressed the question, saying Macron was “a friend of mine” and moving into a broader criticism of France’s immigration policies.
Trump said he had warned Macron years earlier that France was making a serious mistake by allowing people from around the world to enter the country.
“Paris is going to be a Muslim city very soon,” Trump said, adding that he believed such a development was not what had been intended.

Trump continued by saying he had urged Macron to strengthen France’s borders when they first met, adding that he had known the French leader for roughly eight or nine years.
“We closed our borders, he didn’t,” Trump said. “And you know what? His borders are a problem.”
He concluded that Macron should have taken action much earlier, insisting that he had repeatedly advised him to do so.
Trump had made similar comments on Truth Social over the weekend, after images circulated showing masked protesters allegedly setting cars on fire and looting businesses.

“France is burning!” the president wrote in a post on Sunday.
He attributed the unrest to immigration, claiming that the arrival of people from what he described as “an entirely different world” had damaged France.
Trump also called on the French government to close its borders and regain control before the situation became worse.
The protests initially began about a month earlier, involving teachers and students concerned about staffing shortages. They later expanded into a broader movement focused on the rising cost of living.

They have been joined by extremist politicians and activists such as Jean-Luc Melenchon, head of the hard-Left France Unbowed party.
Scenes from the weekend showed looters in France smashing their way into designer stores to steal luxury items amid the ‘unrestrained violence’.
Dozens of hooded young men were filmed swarming high-end outlets like Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton, leaving shelves of expensive jewelry and clothing entirely bare.
In an address Sunday night, Macron blamed ‘agitators from far-Left fringe groups, joined by numerous criminals’ for plunging his country into ‘unbridled violence.’
He made a plea ‘for unity’ following the weekend of chaos, which saw nearly 2,400 people arrested and almost 1,000 police and gendarmes injured – seven seriously.
‘Looking at these images, we have all asked ourselves how French people could do this to France.
‘Nothing justifies it, nothing explains it, nothing excuses it.
‘Those who looted will have to pay back for the damage, and those who sought to bring down the Republic will be held accountable,’ he then vowed.
Wall Street Con Man Daniel Gordon Dodges $59M NY Tax Bill in Calif.
A convicted Wall Street fraudster once labeled New York’s No. 1 tax deadbeat has been enjoying a lavish life in California while his tax liability has climbed to $59.1 million, The Post has learned. Daniel Gordon now runs a charity praised by Gov. Gavin Newsom and promotes erectile dysfunction medication, despite continuing to evade the enormous bill.
Gordon, a former Merrill Lynch trader who pleaded guilty in 2003 to defrauding the bank of $43 million through an elaborate wire-fraud scheme, lives with his wife, Kate, in a 10,495-square-foot property near Palm Springs. California tax records place the Rancho Mirage home’s value at more than $5 million.
The sprawling estate sits in the exclusive desert community, once home to figures including Frank Sinatra, Bill Gates and President Gerald Ford. A real estate listing highlights its sunken tennis court, three-hole putting green and resort-style swimming pool, complete with cascading waterfalls and a swim-up bar.
Now 50, Gordon has recast himself as a California philanthropist through Gordon Philanthropies, a charity focused on prison reform. He has appeared in television interviews and posed for photo opportunities with the Los Angeles Police Department and the California Department of Corrections, while his website features images of him at ribbon-cuttings and other charitable events.
In November 2024, Gordon received an enthusiastic letter from Gov. Newsom. Addressed to “Daniel,” the message included a large handwritten “Thank you!” above the governor’s signature and is prominently displayed on Gordon Philanthropies’ Facebook page.
“Thank you again for your generous contributions,” Newsom wrote. “I look forward to your continued partnership.”
Gordon and Newsom’s office did not respond to requests for comment. California prison officials also declined to answer questions about Gordon’s criminal history and massive tax debt, instead pointing to regulations that allow the department to accept private donations.
The California lifestyle follows years of scrutiny over Gordon’s unpaid taxes. In 2016, New York tax authorities identified him as the state’s biggest tax dodger, placing him at the top of their “Top 100” list with $25.1 million in outstanding warrants. Officials told The Post at the time that they intended to track him down and collect the money.
Nearly a decade later, two active tax warrants filed in Albany County total $59,141,763.16.
The debt stems from Gordon’s attempted theft from Merrill Lynch. At 24, the Yale graduate deceived his supervisors into wiring $43 million to an offshore shell company, then took the money through a phony insurance transaction.
Although Gordon was ordered in 2003 to return the stolen fortune, federal and New York tax authorities also sought taxes on the proceeds. Under tax law, stolen money can be treated as taxable income. Interest and penalties have since pushed the liability far beyond the original amount.
At a 2013 bankruptcy trial, Gordon acknowledged under oath that he had avoided more than $34 million in back taxes. He testified that the IRS had made clear that returning the $43 million did not eliminate his tax obligation: “Under our laws you owe us taxes … regardless of the fact that it was repaid.”
His guilty pleas did not erase the tax debt. When tax authorities continued pursuing him, Gordon turned to bankruptcy court in an effort to obtain relief.
In a sharply worded 2015 ruling, US Bankruptcy Judge Robert E. Gerber rejected Gordon’s attempt to discharge his personal liabilities through Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The judge found that Gordon had fraudulently concealed $3.1 million in assets and lied under oath, describing his explanations as claims that “insulted the intelligence of the court.”
Evidence presented at the trial showed that Gordon had transferred $2 million to a fictitious Nevada shell company with no employees, office or accounting records. Judge Gerber was also taken aback when Gordon’s lawyer confirmed that the former trader had charged ex-New York Knicks center Eddy Curry an 89.79% interest rate on a $570,000 loan. The debt grew to $2 million in only 18 months.
Gordon told the court he had only $3,147 to his name. Yet he also acknowledged paying $19,000 a month for an Upper East Side apartment and spending $140,000 on a summer rental in the Hamptons. The Manhattan lease had been concealed through a corporate entity.
Despite the publicity surrounding Gordon’s case, New York officials have still not filed the routine paperwork needed to collect the vast tax debt, The Post has learned. That inaction continued even after a whistleblower alerted authorities more than two years ago.
Leaked emails obtained by The Post indicate that state investigators took no apparent action after receiving a detailed guide to more than $26 million in assets allegedly connected to Gordon.
In March 2024, a whistleblower sent multiple tips to the internal affairs division of the New York Department of Taxation and Finance. The source, a Texas entrepreneur who asked not to be identified because of death threats, has been involved in a contentious legal dispute with Gordon.
One email identified “$4.1mm dollars in non-exempt California Real Estate in addition to the 22mm worth of shares of stock in public companies,” according to the whistleblower.
“I would really like the state of New York, at least, to get their money back,” the tipster wrote.
The tipster even pointed state investigators to an address right in their own backyard: a stock transfer agent at 1 State St. in Lower Manhattan holding shares tied to a Gordon-linked corporate vehicle.

A New York tax investigator, identified in the messages only as Inv. Politylo, replied promising to “forward this to the appropriate department.”
More than two years later, however, county records show New York has yet to record a single lien against the Rancho Mirage mansion. Empire State tax warrants expire after 20 years, meaning Albany has already blown half the clock to collect.
Darren Dopp, a spokesman for the New York Department of Taxation and Finance, declined to comment on what efforts the agency under Gov. Kathy Hochul has made to collect the $59.1 million, citing state tax secrecy laws.
Thanks to a bureaucratic rule, New York drops deadbeats from its “Top 100” list if officials fail to file a fresh warrant in 12 months, Dopp said. Debtors can also drop off the list by challenging an assessment, cutting a deal, dying, or declaring bankruptcy.
Edward Zelinsky, a tax professor at Yeshiva University’s Cardozo School of Law, said tracking down Gordon’s California assets should be straightforward for New York’s top lawyers.
“This is certainly something that should be within the routine competence of the New York attorney general, particularly for large judgments where it would be financially feasible to acquire help from counsel in the other state,” he said.
A spokesperson for New York Attorney General Letitia James insisted the state’s top prosecutor can’t lift a finger unless tax officials formally hand over the file.
“The Department of Taxation and Finance is the primary enforcement agency in matters involving outstanding public tax debts unless a referral is made to the Office of the Attorney General,” James spokeswoman Alexis Richards said.
“Per the Post’s own reporting, the Department issued warrants for Mr. Gordon’s state tax debts. That is the end of the story here, but unfortunately The Post seems determined to disparage the critical work the Office of the Attorney General does every day to protect New Yorkers and their wallets,” she added.
The Tax Department, for its part, claimed it never sends collection cases to James’ office.
“The AG’s office is not involved in the case,” Dopp said. “The AG’s office does not handle our collections matters.”
“It’s very unusual,” added Timothy Noonan, a partner at Hodgson Russ LLP. “I would think a taxpayer like that would be high on the radar screen.”
When tax deadbeats flee the state, tax authorities “can authorize the Attorney General to pursue collection anywhere else,” Noonan said. Specifically, by “domesticating the warrant” in California, Albany could turn its New York tax tab into a local court judgment overnight, freeze Gordon’s bank accounts and seize his desert mansion, Noonan said.
Generally, there is no law that prevents the AG and the tax department from picking up the phone to coordinate, said Steven Goldburd, a managing partner at Manhattan tax firm Goldburd McCone LLP.
“Governments are all about going after low-hanging fruit,” he said. “It is infinitely easier to attack a $2,000 tax bill of a taxpayer that will likely never fight back than the multimillion-dollar tax bill of a legally well-armed taxpayer that will.”
Still, while a wealthy tax dodger can employ high-priced consultants to shield themselves from collection and delay enforcement, “an LLC is a legal barrier, not a magic cloak,” former Manhattan DA asset forfeiture chief Duncan Levin told The Post.
“New York cannot simply grab company assets to pay an owner’s personal tax bill,” Levin said. “But if the company is really his personal piggy bank, that barrier may come down.”
Levin added that Gordon’s California palace could be a much easier target because it sits in his own name, though seizing real estate requires a court order.
“A $5 million house is not a $5 million check,” Levin said. “The state’s job is to turn a tax warrant into a recovery. You don’t collect a debt by admiring the size of it.”
Meanwhile, Gordon stays busy in California. Corporate filings show his charity, his penny stock outfit Polomar Health Services, and his GLD Partners investment arm all operate out of the same Los Angeles office suite.
SEC records show he holds 49% voting control at Polomar, which recently spent more than $193,000 buying “Wafesil” — a dissolving sildenafil erection drug — directly from another firm Gordon controls.
Disclosures reveal Polomar has also been pushing an “inhalable sildenafil” program: essentially an asthma-style rescue inhaler loaded with generic Viagra.
Chicago Protest Calls for U.S. Support as Russian Strikes Escalate
CHICAGO (WLS) — Protesters gathered in downtown Chicago on Monday evening, urging the Trump administration to maintain its support for Ukraine as Russian airstrikes intensified and fears mounted over the toll on civilians.
The demonstration was held outside the Wrigley Building. Participants observed moments of silence and spoke about relatives and loved ones who remain in Ukraine.
Several protesters said family members have been sending alarming updates as Russian attacks continue.
“It would cost the American people nothing, nothing, except maybe some political capital to let Ukraine defend itself,” said Chicago resident Julian Hayen. “It would not cost American people anything to share intelligence with Ukraine so they can intercept missiles.”
Demonstrators cited reports of a sharp increase in Russian airstrikes over the past week. International outrage followed reports that a 1-year-old child was killed at a playground.
“It’s exhausting for everybody,” said Chicago resident Andrew Benson. “It’s exhausting for us protesters, but we need to get the message out and be able to get as much support as necessary.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine received no advance warning about the missiles launched from Russia that day. He said energy facilities were among the main targets, while civilian structures were also hit.
The strikes came as concerns grew in Ukraine over whether U.S. support may be weakening. Those concerns include reports of limited intelligence sharing and questions about access to Starlink and Starshield technology, which play an important role in Ukraine’s satellite operations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio rejected reports that access to the technology had been restricted.
“There’s been no pause from the United States, but again, what he should be focused on, and what we want to be focused on, is bringing an end to this war,” Rubio said.
Protesters who still have relatives in Ukraine said they felt the Trump administration had effectively left the country to defend itself.
“U.S. has always been on the side of freedom and independence,” said Zoryana Smozhanyka, a U.S. Army veteran. “We have fought for our independence here in the U.S. and I as an American veteran can attest to that. It’s absolutely insane to me that we are now fighting on the side of Russia.”
President Donald Trump disputed that assessment, saying the United States has already delivered substantial support to Ukraine.
“Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine, they haven’t been doing much,” Trump told reporters Monday on the White House South Lawn. He added, “We’ve given a lot to Ukraine, they’ve given us nothing.”

North Korea Releases New Proof-of-Life Images of Kim Jong Un
North Korea has released what it described as “proof of life” images of leader Kim Jong Un, following unsubstantiated claims that he had died after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
The photographs, issued on Monday, appear to show the 42-year-old leader alongside his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, 13, visiting a clothing and footwear exhibition hall in Pyongyang.
The images emerged after Chinese dissident Xie Wanjun claimed, without providing evidence, that the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea had suffered “a severe cerebral haemorrhage” and fallen into a coma.
Wanjun, the US-based chairman of the China Democracy Party, alleged that Kim had been taken to a hospital in Beijing, where he supposedly died.
Writing on X, he said: “His body has been secretly transported back to North Korea, and the news of his death is being kept under wraps.”
North Korea’s state news agency subsequently published the photographs of Kim and his daughter. Although the agency said they were taken on Monday, the timing and location of the images could not be independently verified.
One photograph shows Kim examining a pink shoe while officials stand nearby.
In another, he appears to inspect rolls of fabric as an official speaks with him.

A third image shows the North Korean leader touching the fabric of a woman’s coat draped over a mannequin, with aides following behind him.
Questions about Kim’s health have persisted for years.
In September, South Korea’s spy agency said he was “extremely obese” and faced an elevated risk of heart disease after gaining weight.

Kim’s heavy smoking and chronic obesity have also prompted international speculation about who could succeed him as Supreme Leader of the nuclear-armed state if he were to die unexpectedly.
Seoul politician Youn Kun-young, citing South Korea’s National Intelligence Service, said Kim’s health condition was classified as “extremely obese” and that he weighed more than 310lb.
Youn added that Kim was considered at “high risk of cardiovascular disease”, although he had shown no apparent difficulty with physical activity, including running up stairs.
“It is assessed that there are no signs of health issues, given the close monitoring by (his) dedicated medical team,” he said.
Speculation about Kim’s health intensified in 2020 after he missed a commemoration marking the birthday of his late grandfather. His absence from public view for around 20 days fuelled reports that he had become seriously ill following surgery.
Kim’s father, Kim Jong Il, and grandfather, Kim Il Sung, were also obese and heavy smokers. Both men died from heart attacks.

This is despite the fact that North Korea has struggled with repeated food shortages over the years, with the UN calling food insecurity a key humanitarian concern.
But a chef who worked with Kim’s personal chefs during a North Korea-US summit has said the leader has a taste for luxury foods.
Paul Smart – who was the executive chef at Hanoi’s Metropole hotel, where the summit was held – said in 2019: ‘He likes caviar, lobster, really luxurious product. Foie gras, he really likes to indulge in cuisine.’
He added the steaks the North Koreans brought for the leader weren’t dissimilar to highly coveted Japanese wagyu, and were cooked rare.
Australians Warned Against Using Popular Halloween Decorations
Halloween fans have been urged by the RSPCA not to hang fake cobwebs outside their homes.
The animal welfare organisation issued the warning on its blog last week, as Australians began preparing for Halloween on October 31.
Fake spiderwebs are a popular Halloween decoration, with some brands sold at Woolworths, Kmart and Coles for as little as $1. However, many products already carry a warning that they are intended for indoor use only.
The warning reflects the serious danger the decorative netting can pose to native wildlife, including birds and bats.
The risk is particularly high in Australia because Halloween takes place during spring, when wildlife is especially active.
“Artificial spiderwebs are one of the biggest safety hazards and unfortunately one of the most commonly used decorations for yards and fences,” the RSPCA said.
“Artificial spiderwebs, loose netting and fine fibres can entangle birds, flying foxes, insects and small mammals, potentially causing injury or preventing them from feeding and moving safely.
“Decorations placed in trees, shrubs or near waterways may also block flight paths, disturb nesting or sheltering animals and leave harmful debris behind.”

The RSPCA instead advised Australians to keep fake cobwebs and other netting-based decorations indoors.

“Remove them promptly after Halloween celebrations end and check the area carefully for any pieces that may have come loose.”
Woolworths has also published a warning on its website: “Protect our wildlife at Halloween: Fake spiderwebs can entangle and trap birds and small animals. Please use indoors only.”
The same instruction appears on the packaging of its fake cobweb products.

Coles told Yahoo News that it would reconsider selling the decoration after being made aware of the threat to wildlife.
“We care about the impact the products we sell can have on the environment and recognise concerns that artificial spiderweb decorations used outdoors can pose an environmental risk,” the supermarket said.
“We regularly review our seasonal ranges and will continue to work with our suppliers to explore more sustainable options for seasonal decorations.”

Should retailers stop selling outdoor fake spiderwebs to protect wildlife, even if it spoils Halloween fun?
Several local councils have also taken actions against the common Halloween decoration with Marion Council, in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, warning residents with fake cobwebs outside could be fined.
The council will issue $300 fine if cobwebs are left on public footpaths, trees or fencing but cannot extend to private property due to South Australian laws.
‘Fake spider webs, while spooky, can be harmful to birds and other wildlife. They can get tangled or even eat the plastic, which hurts them,’ the council wrote online.
‘Can you take the challenge of using decorations that are safer for nature?’
The RSPCA urged anyone who finds an animal caught in fake cobwebs to contact it or a local wildlife service as quickly as possible.
‘Do not try to untangle it or aid it yourself. Instead, call a local wildlife rescue group or the RSPCA in your state immediately,’ it said.
‘Only trained professionals should handle these animals to avoid causing further harm to the animal, or risk to humans.’

The Victoria’s Secret show returned to Los Angeles for the first time in 19 years on Sunday, and it featured some of the brand’s biggest bombshells, including supermodel sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid; VS veteran Adriana Lima, 45; Swedish beauty Elsa Hosk, 37; and new mom Barbara Palvin, 33.
South African model Candice Swanepoel, 37, was also among the bombshells, along with Alessandra Ambrosio, 45; Leonardo DiCaprio’s longtime girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, 28; Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, 39; Russian superstar Irina Shayk, 40; and plus-size beauty Ashley Graham, 38.
The iconic event featured musical performances from Megan Thee Stallion, Megan Moroney and Tate McRae.

By 2001, it was being broadcast live on television, and each year, millions tuned in to watch the stunning models strut their stuff and the A-list performers dazzle on stage.
But in 2019, after more than two decades of it reigning supreme, the annual show was canceled amidst immense criticism over the brand’s lack of diversity when it comes to body types, before then-chief marketing officer Ed Razek’s eyebrow-raising comments about trans and plus-sized models.
Texas Husband Jarmon Mattix Fatally Shot in Front of Wife, Sister
A Texas father was fatally shot in front of his wife and sister after a confrontation that began following a softball game, with relatives alleging that racial slurs were directed at him shortly before the shooting.
Jarmon Mattix, a father of three, was shot Sunday after a dispute that began during a softball game in Humble, Texas, and continued into the parking lot.
The cause of the confrontation, which involved two groups, remains unclear. Four people were shot, Harris County homicide detective sergeant Sidney Miller told reporters, while children were among those who witnessed the violence.
Mattix, a 36-year-old commercial truck driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. His sister, Destiny Williams, told KPRC that his wife and mother-in-law were among those injured.
“[The shooter] shot my brother right in front of me and my mother,” she said.
“My sister-in-law was on top of him, trying to give him CPR.”
Police have not confirmed Mattix’s relationship to the injured victims, whose wounds were described as non-life-threatening.
An unidentified man was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators are still working to establish what led to the shooting, while Mattix’s family has raised concerns that racism may have played a role.

Williams said she heard the shooter and another man direct “different racial slurs” at her older brother before he was killed.
“My brother was targeted and it’s just a devastating situation we’re in right now,” she told KPRC.
“My brother… didn’t have [a criminal] record. It’s the fact… sometimes being black, it can happen like that.”
Investigators have not determined whether the shooting was racially motivated, but Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the possibility “will be looked into” and described the violence as “senseless.”
Williams, visibly angered by the killing, called on police to “do [their] job.”
“Black. Brown. White. Blue,” she said. “It doesn’t matter. We all are people.”
Police have identified two suspects, although it remains unclear whether charges have been filed.
