Nevada Man Tragically Passes Away on Iconic Sequoia National Park Trail Amid Sudden Emergency

0

On Thursday, an elderly hiker faced a tragic fate in California’s Sequoia National Park. Despite efforts by rescuers, the man succumbed to a sudden medical emergency while enjoying the park’s stunning scenery.

Authorities have identified the deceased as 79-year-old John Francis Oliver from Henderson, Nevada, near Las Vegas. This information was confirmed by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by Your Central Valley.

Oliver’s lifeless body was discovered on the General Sherman Tree Trail—a renowned one-mile route leading visitors to the world’s largest living tree, the majestic General Sherman Tree. This information, sourced from the National Park Service (NPS), was shared by news outlets.

Emergency responders hurried to the scene and provided medical assistance to Oliver. Unfortunately, their valiant efforts were in vain, as the elderly man was ultimately pronounced dead within the beautiful confines of the park, according to SFGATE.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office declined to release additional details about what led to the medical emergency or the circumstances surrounding Oliver’s death “out of respect for the family,” SFGATE reported.

The man’s cause of death has also not yet been determined.

The incident came as temperatures in the region climbed into the upper 90s, according to the National Weather Service.

An extreme heat warning was also in effect Thursday for portions of the nearby Mojave Desert and Indian Wells Valley.

Thursday’s death marks the latest in a string of fatal incidents at Sequoia National Park and nearby areas in recent months.

In June, a 17-year-old girl died after slipping into a fast-moving river during her first visit to Sequoia National Park, according to a GoFundMe.

In neighboring Kings Canyon National Park, a San Mateo couple drowned at Roaring River Falls in May, according to Fox 2 San Francisco.

Last summer, NPS also said a local missing hiker, 36, was found dead in Sequoia National Park.

AusAlert Emergency Test: Essential Tips to Keep Your Family Safe

0

Australia is set to introduce AusAlert, a cutting-edge national emergency warning system aimed at providing quicker and more dependable alerts during critical events such as bushfires, floods, and cyclones.

The public will get a firsthand experience of this system during a countrywide test scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Monday’s trial will serve to highlight any potential issues, allowing authorities to address them before AusAlert is deployed in genuine emergency scenarios.

What will happen on Monday?

During the test, compatible devices will emit a 10-second siren, vibrate, and display a full-screen alert.

The message displayed on the screen will clearly indicate that it is only a test and no action is needed from recipients.

The Government’s new cell-broadcast national messaging system known as ‘AusAlert’ is seen on a smart phone

In the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria, the test will happen at 2pm AEST.

In South Australia, the Northern Territory and Broken Hill, the test will happen at 1.30pm ACST.

In Western Australia, the test will happen at 12pm AWST.

A map of Australia with time zones

Do I need to do anything?

It’s just a test, so you don’t need to prepare besides informing yourself of what’s going to happen in those ten seconds.

The alert is designed to ensure warnings are not missed, but authorities have advised people who rely on concealed mobile phones for their safety to switch those devices off or place them in airplane mode before the test.

Drivers are also reminded not to handle their phones if an alert is received while on the road.

“You’ll get a notification on your home screen that is much larger than you would normally see,” Emergency Management Minister Kirsty McBain said.

“It will say: ‘This is a test. We are testing AusAlert. You do not need to take any further action. You can get more information from the AusAlert website.'”

How does it work?

The AusAlert system, developed following recommendations from the Black Summer royal commission, uses cell broadcast technology to send location-based alerts directly to compatible mobile phones.

Unlike the current SMS-based system, it does not rely on a single mobile tower, making it more resilient if parts of the network are damaged or congested.

McBain explained the technology, saying it uses triangulation, or a modular square of towers.

“As long as it pings off any of those towers, you still receive your AusAlert notification.”

Advice for concealed phones

The alert is designed to override silent mode and Do Not Disturb on compatible devices.

While that’s intended to make sure warnings aren’t missed, it also raises important safety considerations for some.

Karen Bentley, Chief Executive of WESNET, the national peak body for specialist women’s domestic and family violence services, said there are steps people with concealed phones for safety can take.

“If you have a concealed or hidden phone to support your safety, you should consider turning that device off or switching it into airplane mode one hour before the national test, and keeping it off or in airplane mode for 24 hours,” she said.

“A phone on silent or Do Not Disturb will still receive the alert. A phone that is switched off or in airplane mode will not.”

What about state-based warnings?

From October, several emergency agencies will begin rolling out AusAlert as a new way of warning people about life-threatening emergencies.

State and territory emergency services will decide when and where AusAlert is used past this date.

The system is intended to complement, not replace, existing emergency warnings and information from broadcasters and emergency services.

Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie Propel Veteran Leadership for Rams

0

In what’s being touted as a masterstroke, the Rams clinched victory in this year’s NFL offseason.

The team made a series of bold moves, starting with acquiring All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. They bolstered their defensive line by signing Jaylen Watson, and in a stunning trade, they secured Myles Garrett, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. To lay a foundation for the future, they drafted quarterback Ty Simpson, who is already being earmarked as their franchise player.

These strategic moves were complemented by keeping their current roster intact through the re-signing of key free agents.

Yet, the Rams were not merely amassing star power; they strategically brought in veteran players who bring leadership qualities vital for mentoring emerging talents within the squad.

Sunday was a significant day as the Rams kicked off their training camp at Loyola Marymount University. This setting provided a platform for intense 11-on-11 matchups that pit offensive prowess against defensive might, all under the watchful eyes of the assembled team. A clear takeaway from the day was the profound impact of the veteran presence, poised to guide and elevate the youthful members across all elements of the game.

Let’s start with two-time Super Bowl Champions McDuffie and Watson.

“They’re true pros,” defensive coordinator Chris Shula said of his new cornerbacks. “They bring a great perspective to the room. Leadership is influence.”

The evidence of that was already unfolding on the practice field at LMU.

Young defensive backs peppered McDuffie and Watson with questions between sessions. Veterans shared ideas instead of holding them close to the chest. Conversations flowed as naturally as the breeze off the Pacific Ocean.

“Everybody is combining their knowledge to become the best defense possible,” Shula said.

McDuffie, fresh off four seasons with the Chiefs, could have walked into camp with his two Super Bowl rings. Instead, he left his résumé at the door.

“I’m not trying to change the culture,” McDuffie said after practice. “It’s a clean slate. Let’s come in and build with each other. I don’t think there should be one guy up there that has to talk all the time. Everybody should have a voice.”

That philosophy already existed inside the Rams’ locker room where they had a handful of veteran leaders in quarterback and reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, safety Quentin Lake, linebacker Nate Landman, running back Kyren Williams, defensive end Kobie Turner, and punter Ethan Evans. All captains last season and players who coaches called “the glue” of the team and “coaches on the field.” You can now add McDuffie, Watson, and Garrett to that list.

Garrett’s arrival may be the biggest addition of them all. The seven-time Pro-Bowler and five-time All-Pro changes games with his mere presence. Last season with the Browns, Garrett set the NFL’s single-season sack record with 23 sacks, breaking the previous mark held by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. Now, his influence on his teammates could become just as valuable as his pass rush.

“When he’s out there you can just feel his presence,” said McDuffie of Garrett. “Everybody talks about a player’s aura, and he definitely has one. He’s gigantic. He’s a monster.”

New Rams’ special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone, who coached Garrett in Cleveland, knows him better than anyone.

“When there was an opportunity to acquire him, people started asking me about his character and the kind of person he is,” said Ventrone. “Having coached him over the last three years, I can tell you he’s a great dude, a great teammate, and incredibly hard worker and just a complete freak of an athlete. Everyone is going to see it. He’s a special, special player.”

Ventrone, who was hired in the offseason to revamp a miserable Rams’ special teams unit that was ranked among the worst in the league last season, brought on two veteran special teamers in Joe Cardona and Grant Stuard to help leadership and accountability to that unit.

“They’re two of my favorite players that I’ve ever coached,” said Ventrone of Cardona and Stuard’s NFL credibility. “They’re not only smart football players. They’re smart people. I’m grateful Les and Sean were able to bring them here.”

Snead and McVay didn’t just simply add talent this offseason, they surrounded one of the NFL’s youngest teams with veteran leaders, teachers, and extensions of the coaching staff.

If that investment pays off with another Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium next February, then they didn’t just assemble one of the most talented teams in NFL history. They may have assembled the smartest.

A well-known boyband star’s son took Lionel Richie by surprise during his American Idol audition.

At 77, the legendary singer was visibly stunned when he encountered the 23-year-old nepo baby on the show’s stage last year.

The young performer mirrors his father, flaunting curly blonde locks, a mustache, and a sharply defined jawline.

Having previously toured alongside his father’s band, famed for their smash hit “I Want It That Way,” the musician is not new to the spotlight.

A year after gracing the television talent show, his audition clip is once again making waves on social media.

Can you guess who his famous father is?

During the audition the judges asked why Baylee looked so familiar before learning he was Brian’s son.

Baylee opened for the Backstreet Boys on their DNA World Tour in 2019 when he was just 16 years old.

‘Since I was 6 years old, my dream has always been to go on tour,’ Baylee told PEOPLE.

The singer said he has always desired to follow in his father’s footsteps and in more ways than just being his doppelganger.

Telling a sweet story about the moment he realised he wanted to be like his pop star dad, Baylee said: ‘I put on one of my dad’s jackets from one of his outfits in his dressing room and I stood in front of the mirror.

‘He comes in and is like, “Hey Bubs, what are you doing?” and I’m like, “Well I want to be like you.”

4 Standing Exercises to Quickly Trim Apron Belly After 60 Without Gym Classes

0

Discover four effective standing exercises that a fitness expert recommends over traditional gym classes to tackle an apron belly, especially for those over 60 years old.

>

Many people fixate on finding the perfect lower-ab exercise when dealing with an apron belly, typically turning their focus toward targeting this specific area. However, this approach can be misleading. The body doesn’t shed fat in localized areas based solely on exercises concentrated there. Instead, a comprehensive workout that emphasizes overall effort and consistency proves to be more beneficial.

Standing exercises provide added benefits by making the workout feel dynamic and engaged right from the start. They involve multiple muscle groups, including the legs, hips, arms, and core, all while elevating your heart rate. This leads to increased calorie burn and a more effective training outcome compared to stationary exercises on machines or slow-paced classes that don’t quite push you to your limits.

For clients over the age of 60, ensuring they can control the intensity of their workout is crucial. The goal is to maintain proper form, elevate breathing, and execute movements that they can reliably repeat in future sessions. This balance is essential because achieving body composition goals requires consistent, quality workouts rather than enduring a single, exhausting session.

This specially designed four-exercise circuit combines power, strength, and intervals with a quicker pace, allowing for a robust training experience within a short period. Starting with lighter weights and taking adequate rest breaks helps maintain sharpness. Additionally, opting for low-impact variations ensures that workouts remain gentle on the knees, hips, and back when necessary.

Single-Arm Kettlebell Swing

The single-arm kettlebell swing brings a lot of effort into one standing movement. Your hips create the power, your grip controls the bell, and your core keeps your torso from rotating as the weight moves. That makes it a strong option for a short, calorie-burning circuit when your form stays crisp. Use a light kettlebell and practice the two-hand swing first if this version feels new.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, core, upper back, grip, shoulders.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip-width and place a kettlebell in front of you.
  2. Hinge at your hips and grip the handle with one hand.
  3. Pull the kettlebell back between your legs.
  4. Drive your hips forward to swing the bell to chest height.
  5. Keep your free arm relaxed at your side or out for balance.
  6. Let the bell return between your legs and repeat before switching sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Two-hand kettlebell swings, kettlebell deadlifts, single-arm swing holds.

Form Tip: Let your hips drive the bell. Your arm should guide the weight, not lift it.

5 Chair Exercises That Restore Thigh Muscle Faster Than Gym Sessions After 60

Dumbbell Squat to Press

The dumbbell squat to press gives the workout a full-body strength piece. Your legs create the drive out of the squat, and your upper body finishes the press overhead. The move raises the demand of the circuit without needing heavy weights. Keep the dumbbells light enough that the press stays smooth.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, shoulders, triceps, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and hold dumbbells at shoulder height.
  2. Brace your core and keep your chest lifted.
  3. Lower into a squat you can control.
  4. Press through your whole feet to stand tall.
  5. Press the dumbbells overhead.
  6. Lower the weights back to your shoulders and repeat.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Bodyweight squat to reach, goblet squat, alternating dumbbell squat to press.

Form Tip: Stand fully before pressing so the movement stays powerful and controlled.

Squat Jumps

Squat jumps add the highest-intensity piece of the circuit. They train your legs to produce force quickly, and even a small jump can raise your heart rate fast. Keep the jump low and land quietly so the exercise stays athletic without feeling reckless. Use the lower-impact variation when jumping doesn’t feel right for your joints.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, calves, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart.
  2. Brace your core and lower into a shallow squat.
  3. Drive through your feet and jump straight up.
  4. Land softly with your knees slightly bent.
  5. Reset your stance.
  6. Repeat for the full set.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Squat to calf raise, assisted squat jumps, low squat jumps.

Form Tip: Land with control and reset before the next rep.

High Knees

High knees finish the circuit with a simple conditioning interval. The goal is to move quickly while staying tall and controlled. Your breathing should pick up, but your posture shouldn’t fall apart. Use a marching version if running in place feels too jarring.

Muscles Trained: Hip flexors, quadriceps, calves, glutes, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Brace your core and keep your chest lifted.
  3. Drive one knee toward hip height.
  4. Lower that foot and quickly switch sides.
  5. Pump your arms naturally as you move.
  6. Continue for the full interval.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 20 to 30 seconds. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Marching high knees, supported high knees, slow-tempo high knees.

Form Tip: Stay tall and keep the footfalls light.

5 Morning Exercises That Restore Arm Strength Faster Than Weight Training After 60

How to Use These Standing Exercises After 60

Use these four exercises as a circuit two to three days per week. Complete one set of each move in order, rest for 60 to 90 seconds, then repeat for two to three total rounds.

  • Start with the cleanest version: Good form lets you train harder over time. Use lighter weights, lower jumps, or marching high knees when needed.
  • Keep the pace honest: The workout should raise your breathing, but every rep should still look controlled.
  • Rest before form slips: Short rests help the circuit feel active. Take a little more time when your jumps, swings, or presses start to lose quality.
  • Use the low-impact options: Squat to calf raises and marching high knees still create useful effort while reducing impact.
  • Build the rest of the week around movement: Walking, strength work, and consistent meals help support the body-composition changes behind the apron-belly goal.

Trimming an apron belly takes more than a few ab reps. Use standing exercises that create real effort, keep your whole body involved, and give you a repeatable way to train with purpose.

Nivea and Lil Wayne: Unraveling the Reasons Behind Their Breakup

Bursting onto the music scene in the early 2000s, R&B sensation Nivea quickly became a household name with chart-toppers like “Don’t Mess With My Man,” “Okay,” and “Laundromat.” Throughout the years, this Grammy-nominated artist has not only maintained her stature in the industry but also successfully juggled the challenges of co-parenting children with musical heavyweight The-Dream and esteemed rapper Lil Wayne.

In a heartfelt disclosure on July 21, 2026, Nivea revealed a personal battle that few saw coming. A few months earlier, she had been diagnosed with leukemia, catching her devoted fans by surprise. Yet, with admirable resilience, Nivea recounted her ongoing treatment journey and shared that it “was going great so far,” offering hope and reassurance to all who support her.

During an intimate conversation on Cadillac Chronicles, Nivea opened up, stating, “Earlier this year, I found out I had leukemia.” Embracing a tone of gratitude, she continued, “I’m so thankful to God. The treatment has been progressing positively, and I’m hopeful it will remain on this path. It sounds cliché to say you never know the moment or the hour, but that truth has reshaped my perspective. Now, I practice gratefulness daily, and I cherish everything with renewed appreciation.”

Beyond her illustrious career, Nivea’s personal life has stirred much interest, particularly her tumultuous relationship with Lil Wayne, which ended not once, but twice. Read on to discover more about the dynamics behind their split.

The on-and-off romance between Nivea and Lil Wayne began back in 2002, leading to an engagement that ultimately dissolved by 2003. Opening up about the breakup, Nivea attributed the end of the relationship to Wayne’s infidelities. One significant breach of trust was Wayne moving his ex-wife back into the residence they shared, prompting Nivea to reconsider and eventually step away from the relationship.

Nivea explained that Weezy asked her to step away from her music career to be a stay-at-home partner, and moved them into an apartment together. But she later discovered he maneuvered her out of their house so he could move his ex-wife, Toya Johnson, back in.

During an appearance on Kandi Burruss’ YouTube show On That Note, Nivea explained, “I’m just sitting there, like, being a housewife. All of a sudden — this is kind of funny — he was like, ‘I ain’t never stay in an apartment before. Let’s get an apartment!’ So we move out the house and get an apartment. I didn’t realize he did that to move Toya back in the house.”

Nivea described herself as “heartbroken,” and that’s why their engagement ended the first time.

Following their initial split, Nivea married fellow singer and producer Terius “The-Dream” Nash in December 2004. Together, they had three children before they divorced in June 2008. A year later, Nivea and Wayne rekindled their relationship. They got engaged again while Nivea was pregnant with their son, Neal.

However, the relationship didn’t last then either because the “Lollipop” rapper simultaneously fathered a child with actress Lauren London, leading Nivea to call off the engagement in 2010.

“I found out the day I was confirmed pregnant with our son that he had another one that should be expected three months ahead of ours,” Nivea told VLADTV.

She added that she became close with London during that time, explaining, “It’s still a testament to the type of man [Lil Wayne] is because all of his baby mothers, we’re all cool with each other.”

Circus Performer Hospitalized in Serious Condition After Accidentally Shot with Arrow During Show

In a dramatic incident under the big top, a circus performer endured a harrowing experience when an arrow aimed by his partner struck him in the neck, necessitating an emergency airlift to the hospital. The mishap occurred during a performance in New York.

According to New York State Police, the accident took place at the Orange County Fair in Wallkill on Friday at approximately 9:30 p.m. Edwin Cuervo Rangel, aged 38, was performing alongside his wife, Ana Daza Tavera, 42, when the unfortunate event unfolded.

Cuervo Rangel and Daza Tavera, who hail from Wisconsin, are not only professional partners in the circus but also a married couple, as reported by News 12.

Police reports reveal that the duo was executing a stunt involving Daza Tavera aiming an arrow at a foam target held by Cuervo Rangel. Instead of hitting the mark, the arrow struck him, leading to his rapid evacuation for medical attention.

Tense Tunnel Clash: Columbus Crew vs. Cincinnati Unpacked

0

On Saturday evening, tensions ran high between FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew as their players nearly came to physical altercations in the tunnel heading to their locker rooms.

A video circulating on social media captured the intense scene as coaches, security personnel, and police officers in uniform stepped in to separate the rival Major League Soccer teams, working to calm a situation that had boiled over following Columbus Crew’s narrow 2-1 victory over Cincinnati.

The conflict originated late in the game when Cincinnati midfielder Gerardo Valenzuela executed an aggressive move against Crew forward Taha Habroune, causing him to fall dramatically to the ground.

The foul led to players from both squads getting into a scuffle on the field, and Valenzuela was eventually assessed a red card for violent conduct.

However, things didn’t calm down much after the final whistle, with Columbus defender Mohamed Farsi and team captain Sean Zawadzki having to be held back by teammates and coaches from running into the visitor tunnel, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

And then moments later things escalated once again, which led to the scene that was captured by 10TV WBNS reporter Adam King.

The video showed players from both teams shouting at one another as coaches, security and police stood between them.

Eventually, cooler heads prevailed as the two clubs went their separate ways.

“In the tunnel, nothing really happened,” Farsi told the Columbus Dispatch. “It’s not the image that we want to show to young kids who watch us, but at the end of the day we try to protect our players from some vicious play like that, some dangerous plays.”

Crew head coach Laurent Courtois told the outlet that “something stupid happened and then guys got a little bit heated” when describing the whole incident.

The match was both clubs’ second since the World Cup break came to an end and MLS resumed its regular season.

Seattle Tragedy: Two Dead, Five Injured in Devastating Mass Shooting

A tragic incident unfolded at a Seattle food festival near the iconic Space Needle on Sunday night, culminating in the death of at least two individuals and causing widespread panic as attendees fled for safety.

The chaos erupted around 6 p.m. during the Bite of Seattle, an annual culinary celebration held at Seattle Center. Attendees were startled by the sudden eruption of rapid gunfire.

According to the Seattle Fire Department, the devastating gunfire resulted in two fatalities.

In the aftermath, five additional individuals required immediate medical care. Among them, four were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment, including a toddler aged two, a young man of 23, and two adult women.

Hospital officials reported that one of the women remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing surgery at Harborview Medical Center.

Two people were in custody in connection with the shooting, according to Seattle’s NPR news station. Their identities were not released.

A livestreamed video from the scene showed how the festival descended into chaos.

It started with a man from Hawaiian Honey Cones showing off his product at the food festival and asking more people to subscribe to his channel when one of his employees tells him, ‘Shooting,’ and ducks behind the counter.

‘Shooting, oh s***,’ the man taking the livestream video replied, as people, including families with young children, started running.

What appears to be five gunshots could then be heard in the background as the live streamer encouraged others to take cover.

Meanwhile, people could be seen breaking through a barrier trying to run away.

The video then ends with the live streamer telling his employee to grab the money and get down.

Paul Skinner, 47, also told the Seattle Times how he had just returned from grabbing drinks for his staff at his Filipino food booth when he heard a series of loud pops.

‘People were hiding, were pushing, people were falling on the ground, baby strollers were falling,’ Wakonabo said, adding that was when he heard gunshots.

‘Once I heard a “pop, pop, pop,” that´s when I knew it was a shooter,’ he said.

After he escorted his girlfriend to safety, he returned to the scene to make photos and saw multiple victims on the ground, Wakonabo said.

Todd Behrends, 59, also told how he saw people jumping and running over others to get away.

One woman fell in the chaos, he said, and someone stepped on her leg.

When Behrends then ran out the exit, he said he saw a woman on the ground and a man in a stretcher.

Police have now locked down the area as the investigation continues and the FBI responds to the scene.

In the meantime, the Monorail has been shut down for the rest of the night.

The annual festival started in 1982 and draws 350,000 attendees over ‘three days of food, drink, and community celebration,’ according to its website.

SEATTLE (AP) — A heartbreaking incident unfolded at a Seattle food festival near the iconic Space Needle, where two individuals lost their lives and five others sustained injuries in a shooting on Sunday evening, according to a spokesperson for the city’s fire department.

Authorities are actively investigating the tragic event and have issued a warning for the public to steer clear of the area located just northwest of downtown Seattle.

The shooting incident took place around 6 p.m. at the Seattle Center amidst the bustling Bite of Seattle festival, sending shockwaves through attendees and the community.

Susan Gregg, a representative for Harborview Medical Center, confirmed that their facility received four victims, including a young child, a 23-year-old man, and two adult women.

Gregg noted that one of these patients is currently in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the injuries sustained.

Estan Wakonabo said he and his girlfriend were at the festival waiting in line for a photo booth when he was shoved from behind and he turned to see a rush of people fleeing.

“People were hiding, were pushing, people were falling on the ground, baby strollers were falling,” Wakonabo said, adding that was when he heard gunshots.

“Once I heard a ‘pop, pop, pop,’ that’s when I knew it was a shooter,” he said.
