Israeli forces detained the head of Hamas’ general security apparatus during an operation in Gaza, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced.

An Israeli security official named the Hamas figure as Mu’in al-Arabid, describing him as the chief of the group’s General Security Apparatus. The official said al-Arabid was taken into custody during an Israeli raid that pushed deep into Hamas-controlled territory in Gaza. According to the official, the Israel Defense Forces used airstrikes to cover troops as they withdrew, and no Israeli casualties were reported.

Katz said the arrest reflected Israel’s broader approach to Hamas. “A short time ago, a senior Hamas terrorist was arrested, and this is our policy: We do not wait for threats. Instead, we pursue Hamas terrorists, thwart them, and destroy their terrorist infrastructure. We have built a strong and unprecedented security zone in Gaza to protect residents and IDF soldiers,” he said in a statement.

The defense minister added that Israel intends to maintain control until its military objectives in Gaza are met. “Nearly 70% of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed, with no residents, no tunnels, and no homes, and the IDF controls the territory. We are not leaving Gaza until the Strip is demilitarized, Hamas is disarmed, and all terrorist tunnels are destroyed. Even after that, the IDF will remain in Gaza along defensive lines and ensure the security of the western Negev communities. Any attempt to bypass the security zone through aerial launches will be met with a harsh response,” Katz said.

The raid comes weeks after President Donald Trump’s administration demanded that Hamas disarm and give up control of Gaza in August. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, traveled to Israel last month and said the IDF may receive U.S. backing to “finish the job.”

“If they don’t follow through now on their commitment, everyone will see that they’re not genuine about peace, and then Israel will have a lot more support from the U.S. and others to go and finish the job in the appropriate way,” Kushner also told Fox News’ Trey Yingst of the terrorist group.

The warning from Trump’s son-in-law followed a rare face-to-face meeting with Hamas in Egypt — only Kushner’s second known meeting with the group.

“They said all the right things, but obviously, it’s very, very hard to trust, you know, a terrorist organization that committed these terrible atrocities,” Kushner continued. “But we had a very cordial meeting, and they said all the right things, and so we’re going to give them a chance to perform.”

“It’s going to have to be based on actions and steps, and I hope it will be true.”

The U.S.-led “Board of Peace” proposal centers on a phased ceasefire, demilitarization of Gaza, Israeli troop withdrawal, Palestinian technocratic governance and international reconstruction efforts.

A 17-year-old girl charged in connection with the deadly massacre at the Islamic Center of San Diego has been identified as Sarah Lindsey Santiago, a student from North Carolina.

Santiago is facing three counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, WBAL-TV reported.

According to prosecutors, Santiago allegedly agreed ahead of the attack to livestream the mass shooting, make the video available to the public and publish the gunmen’s manifesto.

Authorities said Santiago was allegedly among three people who viewed the livestream, then recorded and shared the footage along with the attackers’ writings.

Hundreds of teenagers descended on a Colorado grocery store over the weekend, leaving behind damage, stolen goods and shaken residents in what authorities described as a chaotic scene.

Police said the disturbance unfolded Sunday afternoon at a King Soopers on Peoria Street in Aurora, where a crowd of roughly 500 teens swarmed the store, damaged property and took merchandise.

Social media video showed teens carrying stolen tables, throwing food items on the floor, and running around the aisles as shoppers attempted to complete their grocery runs.

Witnesses said the young people, believed to be between 14 and 17 years old, packed into aisles across the supermarket, shouting, laughing and creating disorder throughout the business.

‘It was like a nightmare,’ an employee, who asked not to be identified, told KDVR. ‘Everybody was littering over here… It was like a lot of people. And I talked to security and they said yeah we are taking care of it. But obviously not.’

They would later flee in large groups to local businesses, including a Burger King down the street, where they stood on tables, jumped around, and appeared to sing a song, a social media video showed. 

‘While some simply ran through the businesses, others vandalized property and stole merchandise,’ the Aurora Police Department said.

The Aurora Police Department dispatched around 70 officers to the scenes to regain order in the city, which took several hours, it said. 

‘The size of the response required the department to redirect a significant number of on-duty resources that otherwise would have been available to respond to calls for service throughout Aurora,’ it said in a statement. 

Chief Todd Chamberlain said the gathering started as a social media-organized unpermitted sporting event, but it quickly became a ‘significant public safety issue.’ 

‘This crossed the line from a gathering of young people into a police matter because of the behavior and criminal conduct of some of those involved,’ he said in a statement.  

‘We will not tolerate groups taking over roadways, disrupting businesses, damaging property or stealing under the belief that being part of a large crowd provides anonymity. It does not.’ 

Police are working to identify the teens who engaged in criminal behavior. 

The department also encouraged parents to ‘understand the role they play’ and to ‘know where your children are, who they are with, and what they are being invited to through social media.’ 

‘When hundreds of young people suddenly gather and behavior begins to escalate, the consequences can become serious very quickly,’ Chamberlain said. 

‘Police officers should not have to be pulled away from other community emergencies to manage behavior that could have been prevented.

‘The overwhelming majority of young people in our community make good decisions every day. But a crowd can create a false sense of anonymity and encourage individuals to make decisions they might never make on their own,’ he continued. 

‘If you commit a crime in a crowd, you should expect us to use every tool that we have available to work to identify you and hold you accountable.’ 

Jessica Trowbridge, a spokesperson for King Soopers, told the Daily Mail that the company was ‘extremely disappointed by the disruptive actions of a large group of individuals that stormed our store.’ 

‘We are grateful for the swift and professional response from the Aurora Police Department, whose quick action helped resolve the situation. The safety of our associates and customers is a priority, and we take this matter seriously,’ she said. 

‘We also want to recognize our store associates who were present during this unwelcome activity; we are genuinely thankful for their composure, patience, and support of each other and our customers.’ 

The Daily Mail has reached out to Burger King and the Aurora Police Department for comment. 

The King Soopers incident is just another in the growing number of disruptive crimes taking place in Aurora. 

Last month, a man tore apart a beloved garden and beehive, despite residents calling police for help.  

Worku Woldemariam, 42, allegedly ripped apart an urban garden on E 16th Avenue in Aurora, Colorado, on August 8 after he was accused of vandalizing a sheriff’s office, a local market, a Starbucks, and an ice cream shop over several days.

Multiple locals told Denver 7 News that they called 911 to report Woldemariam, who has a lengthy criminal record, but were left waiting for hours.

The day he allegedly destroyed the garden, locals reported Woldemariam around 1pm; however, officers were not dispatched until nearly 4pm, according to the outlet.

The suspect allegedly spent those three hours using rocks to smash beehives and rip out crops as horrified locals helplessly watched on.

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — Homeowners in a California condominium community are challenging an emergency roof replacement assessment of more than $26,000, arguing the steep charge is putting residents under serious financial strain and raising questions about whether it was imposed legally.

For Beverly Albright, an 81-year-old who lives at the Villa Moura complex, the unexpected assessment has cast doubt over whether she can remain in the home she worked hard to secure.

“I will have to move. And this was my… I’ve worked very hard to make it so that I could be here,” Albright said.

Residents of the 198-unit San Clemente condo complex said every homeowner was billed a $26,000 emergency assessment to fund new roofs.

Several neighbors said they fear the cost will be unaffordable for many people living in the community.

“They’re not going to be able to afford this, and the board’s response is to take out a loan, or take out equity of your house, or dip into your retirement, and I feel like that’s just unacceptable,” homeowner Megan Blanda said.

Homeowners said they are fighting the assessment by seeking to recall members of the homeowner’s association board and by filing a claim alleging the board violated the law.

Noah Martin, a homeowner at Villa Moura, argued that the project does not qualify as an emergency under state regulations, and said residents should have been allowed to vote on how to address the roofing work.

“It didn’t fit under the California Code of Regulations, 5610. Clearly, it was not an emergency; it’s a deferred maintenance. And so, then we as members should have a vote on how we want to take care of the roofs,” Martin said.

Residents also said they have been warned that liens could be placed on properties if owners do not pay the assessment.

“They’re threatening, also, to put a lien on our property if we don’t comply and we don’t pay,” a resident said during a gathering of homeowners.

Residents said the HOA board has known for several years that repairs would be needed to the tile roofs. They contend the roofs are not leaking and that only the underlayment needs replacement, not all of the tiles.

“What we would like to do is have multiple bids competitively submitted and actually negotiate those bids in the best interest of the homeowners. As the board should be doing with their fiduciary responsibilities to us,” said homeowner Adam Dubin.

Michael Kushner, an attorney and HOA expert with MBK Chapman who is not involved in the dispute, said large special assessments have become more common and that homeowners generally must pay assessments even while challenging them.

“Homeowners have to pay those, even if they’re completely illegal. They have to pay them and then dispute them. California law doesn’t recognize the right of offsets, and you can’t withhold payment,” Kushner said.

According to residents, homeowners were given three payment options: pay the more than $26,000 assessment in full, split the amount into two payments, or add more than $2,000 to their monthly payment for six months and $400 thereafter.

The financial impact has left some residents uncertain about how they will cover the cost.

“Retired, single, what, lose my house? I wouldn’t qualify for a loan to refinance. So where do you go?” Albright questioned.
