Rhapsody Of Realities 22 July 2026: The Phenomenon Of Salvation

Rhapsody Of Realities 22 July 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): The Phenomenon Of Salvation

TOPIC: The Phenomenon Of Salvation (Rhapsody of Realities 22 July 2026)

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? – Psalm 27:1

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

What a declaration of an amazing truth! The Lord is my light and my salvation. Did you observe that David didn’t call Him his saviour but his salvation? This is so powerful! When you declare that the Lord is your salvation, you’re saying in essence that you carry with you the phenomenon of salvation.

This means that before you come across any trouble, you already have the solution. Before any dilemma, you already have the victory because you have salvation. You cannot be a victim because the Lord is your salvation. David knew this and declared further, “…the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).

There’s actually nothing to fear. In several places in the scriptures, the Lord instructs us not to fear. Why should you be afraid when the one who is in you is the “Alpha and Omega,” the beginning and the ending? (Revelation 1:8).

It doesn’t matter what’s happening in the world, Hebrews 7:25 says, “…he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him….” Don’t allow fear in your life. Don’t mix fear with your faith.

Is someone threatening you or terrorizing you? Be unperturbed. There’s already a decree in place concerning you; you’re severed from perishing. You’re separated from everything that hurts or binds: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). This realization should put springs in your steps every day. Blessed be God!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for being my light and my salvation. I walk in the consciousness of this reality, knowing that I carry the answer before any challenge arises. Fear has no place in me, for my life is secured in you, and I live in victory always. I’m bold, unshaken, preserved and established in your salvation, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

$290M Cocaine Stash Unveiled in Bananas: A Staggering Blow to Drug Trafficking

0

In a dramatic drug bust at a prominent Italian port, law enforcement officials uncovered approximately 1,700 pounds of cocaine ingeniously hidden among banana shipments, authorities announced on Tuesday.

Officials from Italy’s Guardia di Finanza reported that the illicit cargo was carefully divided into 650 packages and strategically stashed within a refrigerated shipping container. This container had made its way from a major port in Ecuador to the port of Vado Ligure.

Field tests conducted during the investigation confirmed the substance to be “extremely pure cocaine,” according to officials.

Authorities highlighted that this drug seizure ranks among the most significant anti-drug efforts executed at the port in recent years.

The shipment could have generated an estimated 250 million euros, or nearly $290 million, if it had reached the street market.

The seizure followed an extensive analysis of commercial shipping routes linking South America with Vado Ligure, an important gateway for goods entering Europe — and an “attractive” target for international drug traffickers, according to officials.

“The operation forms part of an ongoing and targeted effort to combat the international trafficking of narcotics, including efforts to protect the most vulnerable segments of the population, who are often exposed to the harmful effects of this type of criminal activity,” Guardia di Finanza said.

The seizure comes weeks after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered more than 1,100 pounds of cocaine hidden in a commercial tractor-trailer carrying cabbage at the Pharr Port of Entry in Texas.

A canine inspection and nonintrusive imaging scan alerted officers to the concealed load, CBP said. A physical search of the trailer uncovered 477 packages containing 1,173 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of nearly $10.8 million.

Ella Langley Achieves Major Milestone with ‘Choosin’ Texas’ as She Ascends in the Music Industry

0

It’s likely you’re seeing a radiant smile on Ella Langley’s face these days.

Her electrifying anthem “Choosin’ Texas” has rocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, where it’s held steady for an impressive 14 weeks. This remarkable run ties it with two legendary songs, earning a distinguished place in music history.

For Langley, 27, this career-defining achievement felt surreal; she described the accomplishment as “insane” via her Instagram stories shortly after nabbing the top spot.

The soulful country ballad initially took the Hot 100 by storm in February. Now, it stands shoulder to shoulder with Mariah Carey’s breathtaking “We Belong Together” and Whitney Houston’s iconic “I Will Always Love You,” each holding the record for the most weeks at No. 1 among female artists without any male collaborations.

Moreover, “Choosin’ Texas” has equaled another of Carey’s classics, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” earning the distinction of being the second-longest chart-topping hit.

Langley broke onto the country music scene nearly a decade ago and released her debut studio album, “Hungover,” in 2024.

The catalog brought her immediate accolades with hits, including “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Weren’t for the Wind” both reaching No. 1 on country charts.

Her sophomore release, “Dandelion,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 upon its release in April.

“Choosin’ Texas” not only capped the Billboard Hot 100, but recently earned Langley the title of first female artist to simultaneously top the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.

The “Dandelion” title was inspired by the sturdy plant which is known to withstand challenging environments.

“I learned that dandelion tea is actually a natural detox for the liver,” Ella told Billboard ahead of the release. “So, a record called ‘Dandelion’ after a record called hungover made all the sense in the world to me.

“I’ve never poured more of myself into a project, into a song, into an idea, and it’s fallen out so beautifully. It’s about learning yourself, making mistakes and realizing that it’s all just part of life.

“I want this record to be something that fans can relate to but also something they want to get up and dance to at the same time. To me, this record feels like fireflies in the summertime. It feels like windows down on a red dirt road. It feels like the best kind of Sunday afternoon. It feels like those days I remember as a kid where it felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day. This record is really a love letter to that.”

Langley served as executive producer on the album and co-wrote “Choosin’ Texas” alongside Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and JoyBeth Taylor.

Michael Carrick’s Man United Transformation: Tielemans, Santos Shine Amid Midfield Hunt and Rising Academy Prodigies

0

As Manchester United departed Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday, emotions were mixed following a narrow 1-0 loss to Wrexham. However, anticipation loomed large for the upcoming season under the guidance of Michael Carrick.

Their first pre-season match served as a chance to shake off the rust. United hasn’t yet hit their stride with some key figures in Carrick’s strategy still enjoying post-World Cup breaks, while many rising stars from the academy are vying to solidify their places in the team as the new season beckons.

Among the newcomers, midfielder Andrey Santos has made a positive impression on his teammates with his vigorous training sessions. Meanwhile, keeper Karl Darlow is recovering from a minor injury after undergoing surgery late last season, and Youri Tielemans, who is also on a break, are yet to make their presence felt.

Carrick’s transformative influence is still gaining steam. Join Daily Mail Sport as we explore the current landscape ahead of this week’s second pre-season clash against Norwegian club Rosenborg in Trondheim, set for Friday.

Manager Michael Carrick knows there is still plenty to be done at Manchester United ahead of the new season

Manager Michael Carrick is fully aware of the extensive work ahead for Manchester United as the new season approaches.

WHAT’S THE LATEST WITH DEFENDERS?

United need to assess the extent of the injury suffered by Lisandro Martinez in the World Cup final before deciding if a new centre back needs boosting up the shopping list.

Matthijs de Ligt is set to miss the start of the season while he recovers from back surgery, leaving Harry Maguire, Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro as the only senior centre back options.

United feel well stocked at right back with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, both of whom can play on the left too, but Carrick is keen to have a reliable ball-playing centre back in his line-up to help break the lines, something Martinez excels at.

The two have a very close relationship and the extent of Martinez’s injury issue is likely to put significant weight on whether a new central defender – United were keen on Murillo before he signed a new deal with Nottingham Forest – is back on the agenda.

Left back is a position higher up the priority list, largely because Luke Shaw starting every game last season has to be seen as an anomaly, as positive as it was.

Left back Harry Amass is determined to leave a lasting impression during pre-season and was among the stand-outs for United in Helsinki. But there is significant Championship interest in him and the feeling is that a late move will be sanctioned, particularly if Patrick Dorgu’s role is re-allocated from wing back to full back.

A nugget of information from academy circles: there is A-League interest from Australia in rising star full-back James Overy, while Rangers are also monitoring him. One to watch.

WHAT NEXT FOR THE MIDFIELD REBUILD?

This is the defining area of the pitch for United to get right and has been the focus of months and months of meetings by Ineos and the decision-makers at Old Trafford.

Carrick wants United to play with greater control next season so they can dominate matches and not rely on playing in transition, which they did effectively for so much of his time in charge last term.

Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo worked well as a partnership but the emphasis at United this summer has been to find a combination of midfielders who can disrupt their opponents while also being able to dictate from a deeper base.

United’s top target was Elliot Anderson before that move became too much of a stretch financially and he went to Manchester City for £116million. Similarly Mateus Fernandes, whom many inside United were convinced would join, went to Tottenham Hotspur for £85m.

Those missed targets ultimately led them back to a player who they wanted when Alejandro Garnacho went to Chelsea, and another that figures inside United believe could be the pound-for-pound signing of the season.

Santos was requested by United as part of the Garnacho deal, only for Chelsea to shoot that down. But now they have their man. And the Brazil international is viewed as someone who has the natural instincts to play as a No 6, a more defensive screening midfielder, in front of the defence. He is expected to provide the midfield protection that was severely lacking in the final knockings of the Erik ten Hag era, and often a bone of contention during Ruben Amorim’s reign.

Then there is Youri Tielemans. United activated his £35m release clause, a deal they desperately tried to keep under wraps as part of a concerted effort to do their business in the shadows and away from the media.

The Belgian is Premier League proven, a player United believe can dictate matches, and should ease the creative burden on Bruno Fernandes in front of him.

United still want a third midfielder and they hold interest in Morocco star Ayyoub Bouaddi, among others

United still want a third midfielder and they hold interest in Morocco star Ayyoub Bouaddi, among others

United still want a third midfielder and they hold interest in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, who declined to sign a new contract on Tuesday, Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Roma’s Manu Kone, Aurelien Tchouameni of Real Madrid and Fulham’s Sander Berge – and this is the signing that stylistically should tell us a lot about Carrick’s United.

The expectation is that he will stick with the 4-2-3-1 system that served him so well last season, allowing Fernandes to flourish as the No 10, with two players, one more defensive than the other, at the base of midfield.

But a move for Scott, over say, Kone, would allow United to hold the tactical flexibility for a more ball-dominant 4-3-3 that Paris Saint-Germain, for example, have used to great effect.

United sources have been more tight-lipped than ever about Ineos’ thinking, but what is abundantly clear is United won’t overpay for players, won’t pay enormous wages, and want to continue to pull rabbits out of the hat just when you think you’ve figured out their next move.

IS CARRICK SETTLED ON HIS GOALKEEPERS?

Yes. Senne Lammens is his No 1 and there are no question marks about the Belgian despite his costly error against Spain in their World Cup quarter-final.

Team-mates, including fellow goalkeeper Tom Heaton, have already reached out to Lammens and the sense inside the United camp is that the summer adversity can actually make him a better goalkeeper in the long run, to United’s benefit.

Landing a back-up goalkeeper early in the summer was seen as essential and the free agent move for Darlow frees up Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek to depart.

Depending on who you speak to at United, some sources believe a realistic fee for Vitek comes in at around £15m, with the Czech shot-stopper open to leaving permanently, which appears, as of now, to be United’s preferred route.

‘I’m ready to go somewhere again and hopefully be No 1,’ Vitek told a few of us after the Helsinki match. ‘There has been a few (clubs) on the table. We’re hoping to choose the best one and hopefully it will happen soon.’

The move to keep Heaton around was seen as imperative by all because of his experience and his leadership in the dressing room; a key conduit between the players and staff.

The goalkeepers are set: 1. Lammens. 2. Darlow. 3. Heaton.

ANY YOUNGSTERS WHO CAN CHIP IN?

Simply put, United have too many young players that have outgrown academy football but are also not ready to be thrust into the first team.

There are a lot of youngsters determined to find a role for themselves in the squad for next season, not least with United’s budget unable to stretch to refreshing every position, but also because Carrick and his staff have an immense amount of data on each of them.

Amass is particularly interesting at left back, while midfielder Jacob Devaney, who shone out on loan with St Mirren, is among those fighting to be the additional midfielder promoted from the academy for the coming season.

Tyler Fletcher has loan interest from Kilmarnock but wants to stay and fight for his place, while others such as Sekou Kone (Lausanne), Jack Moorhouse (countless options across League One, as well as abroad), and Jack Fletcher (lots of EFL loan interest) are expected to play elsewhere.

Chido Obi did not get on in Helsinki and there is a degree of uncertainty about the next best move for him. Some inside United are reluctant to send him out on loan but there is also an acknowledgement that he needs to be tested after spending the entirety of last season in the academy set-up.

Cristian Orozco, the physical defensive midfielder who has arrived from Fortaleza after turning 18, will start with the club’s Under 21s before being assessed for his suitability to be in and around the first team. David Eze and Karim Cassim are two Man City youth players United are focused on acquiring this summer as part of their aggressive academy recruitment drive, too.

HOW IS THE LEFT WING LOOKING?

The £8m signing of Tynan Thompson only added to the intrigue around what is happening on the left wing.

Thompson has joined from Tottenham Hotspur as an Emerging Talent Signing, similar to the 2025 deal for Heaven, which has since proved a steal. While Thompson will have to earn a shot at the first team, a key part of the vision sold to the player was that the pathway is right in front of him, as evidenced by Heaven.

Speaking to one key figure in the England player pathway, Daily Mail Sport was told that Thompson is a ‘United-type winger from the 90s’ who will bring a strong one-versus-one ability which has been missing off the left across United’s academy sides.

Adding to the left wing conundrum is the fact Marcus Rashford and his £325,000-a-week contract remains on the books after Barcelona passed up on the chance to sign him, while Dorgu has been viewed as a winger, rather than a left back option, under Carrick.

Noah Ajayi, a 17-year-old who is one of the academy’s brightest players and was in line to play a part in pre-season until an ankle injury put paid to that, needs to see a pathway is there for him, too, amid interest from top clubs in Germany, Italy and Portugal.

Interest in West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, who is now bound for Saudi Arabia, was dependent on any potential exit for Rashford, while the role of Dorgu further complicates recruitment. Should Rashford, who doesn’t have an allocated squad number at United right now, be fully reintroduced, he will expect to be a major factor out on the left.

IS ANOTHER CENTRE FORWARD AN OPTION?

Sesko’s shin injury is a lingering problem for United and there is a real lack of depth up top. Matheus Cunha is capable in that position, as is Bryan Mbeumo, and Carrick does like the false-nine approach, particularly in games where United are not expecting to dominate the ball.

United are open to moving on Joshua Zirkzee but he is one of the most popular members of the dressing room and is eager to fight for his place with more games available now United are back in Europe.

Dedicated Team of 2,000 Volunteers Undertakes Restoration of Prehistoric Predator Skeleton

WARSAW – Enthusiastic volunteers, equipped with chisels and brushes, diligently work in a glass-enclosed laboratory at Warsaw’s Copernicus Science Centre, carefully exposing the bones of a giant prehistoric amphibian.

Outside the lab, visitors are captivated as they observe the skilled work on a nearly six-meter (20-foot) fossilized skeleton. Children eagerly point at the impressive sight, while their parents imagine the majestic creature these bones once supported.

This precise restoration effort is a unique public science initiative, enlisting over 2,000 volunteers alongside Polish scientists to piece together the Mastodonsaurus skeleton, a formidable water predator from the earliest dinosaur era.

The delicate task requires expertly detaching bone from rock, achieved millimeter by millimeter with a pneumatic chisel. The tool’s fine needle gently separates these elements, guided by ultraviolet light to distinguish bone from stone.

Participants hail from diverse professions, including managers, cleaners, and tattoo artists—none are geologists or paleontologists. Each person undergoes training and dons protective gear before embarking on supervised two-hour chiseling sessions.

“I imagine that those bones were lying underground for 240 million years and I am the first human on earth to touch them,” said Tatyana Kozyk, the coordinator of the volunteer teams. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around this experience.”

An ancient aquatic predator

One of the largest amphibians ever to exist, the Mastodonsaurus lived about 240 million years ago during the Middle Triassic, while the earliest dinosaurs were appearing but before they came to dominate Earth. It was an underwater ambush hunter, preying mainly on fish and smaller amphibians.

Scientists believe it could grow to nearly six meters (20 feet) in length. It had a broad, flat head, long jaws and sharp conical teeth, its appearance resembling a crocodile’s, though it belonged to a different branch of the vertebrate family tree.

When the restoration is complete, it will be the largest exhibited in a museum anywhere in the world, said Tomasz Sulej, a paleontologist and professor at the Institute of Paleobiology at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its skeleton weighs 1,300 kilograms (2,865 pounds).

Sulej and his colleague Wojciech Pawlak from the Faculty of Geology at the Warsaw University are credited with discovering the skeleton in southern Poland in 2023 and coming up with the idea to invite volunteers to help with its restoration.

Sulej says there are no other known Mastodonsaurus skeletons this large anywhere else in the world, and the discovery promises to help scientists learn more about the species.

“The structure of the body is different from what we knew so far,” he said. “This is information that is completely new to the scientific world.”

Other Mastodonsaurus skeletons have been found elsewhere, including in Germany and Russia, Sulej said, but they are around 2 to 3 meters (6½ to 10 feet) long.

A chance to reflect on the past and future

Dorota Serafin, a 51-year-old manager from Warsaw who volunteers for the project, said working with the skeleton of an ancient animal is an experience that is at the same time “relaxing and philosophical, even mystical.”

Serafin said she plans to return for other sessions and eventually bring her family to Copernicus when the restored skeleton is exhibited, which is expected to happen in October or November.

In addition to the startling experience of touching the remains of an animal that lived hundreds of millions of years ago, contact with the Mastodonsaurus offers an opportunity to reflect on the future, those involved in the project said.

The amphibian inhabited Earth’s waters after the largest known mass extinction and just before the dinosaurs appeared. As humanity contemplates the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change, Sulej says the story of the Mastodonsaurus offers some hope.

“The Mastodonsaurus lived after the great extinction, which shows one thing, that nature always manages,” Sulej said. “It’s not true that humans can destroy life on this planet. Nature and life always find ways to survive.”

Heartbreaking Oversight: Mom Forgets 1-Year-Old in Sweltering Car While Retrieving Uber Eats Order

Camera footage showcases the St. Petersburg, Florida neighborhood where authorities allege Ly Thien Pham left her infant unattended in a vehicle (WFLA).

After being accused of abandoning her 1-year-old in a sweltering car for around 30 minutes while collecting an Uber Eats delivery, a mother from Florida has been released on bond.

Forty-year-old Ly Thien Pham faces child abuse charges after she reportedly left her toddler alone in her car while completing her duties as an Uber Eats driver. As detailed in an arrest affidavit accessed by WFLA, an NBC affiliate, Pham allegedly took her son to a restaurant in St. Petersburg, Florida, to retrieve an order at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to police, she parked her vehicle, leaving her child in the backseat, and reportedly turned off the engine, which shut down the air conditioning, while activating the hazard lights, as covered by WTSP, a CBS affiliate.

Pham purportedly forgot her parking location upon exiting the establishment, she stated.

Court documentation reveals that Pham was released from jail on Monday after posting a $10,000 bond. She has been instructed not to communicate with the child’s aunt concerning her son. Her forthcoming court date remains undisclosed.

Groom Faces Charges of Assaulting Guest at Wedding Weekend

0

In a shocking incident that disrupted the joyous occasion, a groom has been taken into custody on suspicion of sexually assaulting one of his wedding guests.

Zachary Prouty, according to a criminal complaint filed on July 16 in Adams County, Pennsylvania, faces charges including two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and two counts of indecent assault.

Residing in Kentucky, the 38-year-old Prouty has yet to enter a plea, as per the latest information from court documents.

The allegations surfaced on October 17 when police in Bonneauville Borough responded to Gettysburg Hospital. The alleged victim was there undergoing a forensic examination related to sexual assault.

According to the complaint, the woman informed authorities that she had traveled to Gettysburg to celebrate Prouty’s wedding the previous day. She reported consuming alcohol at a restaurant and later continued drinking at a residence.

After the other guests had gone to bed, the alleged victim stayed downstairs on a couch with Prouty, who allegedly kissed her multiple times without her consent, according to the complaint. The woman told police that she told Prouty to stop, and he briefly complied.

The two later went to the kitchen, where Prouty allegedly kissed her again. After that, she said in the complaint, she lost consciousness and has no memory of what happened.

The woman said she woke up around 7:30 a.m. the next morning in a bedroom, completely undressed, with her clothing lying on the floor soaked with urine. She told police she had no recollection of how she got into the bedroom or of any sexual activity and believed she had been sexually assaulted.

Investigators then took photos and collected evidence at the home, according to the complaint, before contacting Prouty, who was read his Miranda rights. Prouty allegedly declined to provide a statement, telling police that he had retained a lawyer.

DNA samples from Prouty and the alleged victim were sent to a crime laboratory, and a March 16 report concluded that the “male DNA profile was approximately 95 billion times more likely to have originated from Zachery Prouty than from an unknown unrelated individual.”

Court records show that Prouty’s bail was set at $50,000, unsecured. He will next appear in court on Aug. 12 for a preliminary hearing.

Prouty’s attorney did not immediately return a request for comment from Oxygen.

In a tragic turn of events, a Utah man lost his life last week after being struck by lightning while hiking with his brother. The incident occurred just steps away from reaching the summit of Salt Lake County’s tallest peak, authorities have confirmed.

On the morning of their adventure, 59-year-old Craig Nelson and his brother set off toward the summit of the east peak of American Fork Twin Peaks. Utilizing the convenience of the Snowbird tram, they ascended partway up before embarking on their hike—a journey the brothers had undertaken many times before, shared Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera during a Monday press conference.

As the clock approached 10:30 a.m., the brothers paused to enjoy lunch, observing as the weather conditions gradually shifted. According to the surviving brother’s account to investigators, they continued their hike after determining no lightning was visible at the time.

Sheriff Rivera remarked on Utah’s notoriously capricious weather, emphasizing its frequent unpredictability while discussing the unfortunate incident.

About an hour later, the brother reached the east peak first and turned around to head back down after noticing the weather had worsened, Rivera said. Nelson continued toward the summit. The brother told investigators that he saw Nelson suddenly collapse about 20 feet away from him and believed he had been struck by lightning.

The brother rushed back toward the Snowbird tram until he regained cellphone service and called 911 shortly after noon.

A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter quickly located Nelson near the summit, but rescuers had to wait for the storm to move through before they could safely reach him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Snowbird Ski Patrol later helped escort Nelson’s brother off the mountain, according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team.

American Fork Twin Peaks rises to 11,461 feet and is the highest point in Salt Lake County. Rivera emphasized that mountain weather can change with little warning and urged hikers to check the forecast before heading out. She said hikers should leave exposed ridgelines and summits as soon as storms begin moving in.

The sheriff’s office also urged hikers to move to lower ground, stay away from isolated trees and bodies of water, and, if they cannot reach shelter, crouch low with their feet together until the storm passes.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains open while the Utah medical examiner determines Nelson’s official cause of death.

Congress Approves Stopgap Funding Bill to Avert Government Shutdown Beyond Midterms

In a decisive move on Tuesday, the House of Representatives approved a temporary spending measure to stave off a looming government shutdown, ensuring stability in the weeks leading up to the pivotal midterm elections.

This provisional funding legislation is designed to keep federal operations running smoothly until December 4, effectively bypassing the September 30 funding cutoff and maintaining continuity beyond the November 3 electoral milestone.

Dubbed a continuing resolution, this legislative safeguard passed through the House with a narrow margin, recording a 220-205 vote count.

In a notable cross-party coalition, six Democrats—Reps. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), Don Davis (D-NC), Jared Golden (D-Maine), Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.)—crossed the aisle to join forces with Republican colleagues in supporting the bill.

However, standing apart from the consensus, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) cast the sole Republican vote against the proposed measure.

The measure now heads to the Senate, where Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is expected to put it up for a vote before senators take a month-long recess in August.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) blasted Democrats for voting against the short-term funding extension, arguing they view a potential government shutdown as politically favorable ahead of the crucial fall elections.

“House Republicans today took the responsible step of passing a clean, short-term continuing resolution to fund our government through the November elections. Sadly, and predictably, 204 House Democrats voted against this measure,” Johnson wrote on X.

“Given that Democrats have already forced the two longest government shutdowns in American history this Congress, it’s clear they don’t care what kind of pain they inflict on the American people or the hundreds of thousands of federal workers who would be forced to work without pay,” he added. “While time remains until the end of the fiscal year, Republicans are under no illusions about the Democrat Party’s intentions heading into a consequential midterm election.

“They apparently believe a painful government shutdown would help them politically. We hope they will come to their senses before the government shuts down, but if they don’t, then Democrats alone will own the chaos that results.”

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, noted that she opposed the continuing resolution because it would not carry over a provision agreed to during the last government funding battle that blocked funding for Border Patrol.

The bill “does not continue that agreement,” DeLauro fumed, according to CBS News, “giving the Trump administration permission to use billions provided by this bill to fund Border Patrol without any substantial reforms to how that agency operates.”

“It’s a clear line in the sand that Democrats have drawn for months,” she added.
