John Lithgow Defends JK Rowling: Claims Misrepresentation of Author’s Transgender Views

John Lithgow has voiced his perspective on the controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling’s remarks about the transgender community, suggesting that her views have often been “twisted and misrepresented.” This comes amid the ongoing backlash related to HBO’s forthcoming “Harry Potter” series.

Lithgow, who is set to portray Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” television adaptation, acknowledges that while he disagrees with many of Rowling’s statements, he feels the criticism hasn’t always been fair.

During an interview on The New Yorker Radio Hour, the 80-year-old actor shared that he faced pressure to distance himself from the project. However, he firmly stated, “I was not about to do that.”

“I just felt the reasons to participate were far more compelling than the reasons to protest against Rowling’s actions and comments,” Lithgow explained.

He added, “Although I disagree with many of her views, I believe a lot of it has been distorted, and she has, in some ways, reinforced these views at a personal cost.”

Explaining why he took on the role, Lithgow said: “There was everything attractive about the job and job security into my late years. You know, you don’t ignore those issues.

“The whole subject of Rowling’s imputed prejudice, it came up sort of after everything was already underway. I’d already said yes.”

The “Giant” star also emphasized that the creative team — not Rowling — drew him in.

“I have not met her,” he said, adding that showrunner Francesca Gardiner “persuaded me, she’s the big reason I took it on.”

Still, he didn’t hold back his personal reaction to the author’s rhetoric, saying he has been “surprised and disappointed” by the tone of her social media posts.

Earlier this year, Lithgow struck a similar note while speaking at the Rotterdam Film Festival, where he called Rowling’s views “ironic and inexplicable” while stressing the books themselves tell a very different story.

“In ‘Potter’ canon, you see no trace of transphobic sensitivity,” he said. “She’s written this meditation of kindness and acceptance. And Dumbledore is a beautiful role.”

The debate has also spread through Hollywood, with Andrew Garfield recently referring to Rowling as “she that shall remain nameless” and accusing her of supporting “inhumane” causes.

“I know it’s, like, controversial. And, like, we shouldn’t be, you know, putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislation right now through she that shall remain nameless,” Garfield told Hits Radio, referencing Voldemort, the “Harry Potter” villain known as “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.”

“But the soul and the spirit of a lot of the essence of the themes of those films and the kids are so good,” he added. “We can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, there are so many beautiful artists who worked on those films.”

Rowling’s outspoken views on transgender issues have driven a wedge between the author and several stars of the original films.

Last May, Rowling penned a scathing essay when multiple “Harry Potter” actors signed a pro-trans open letter after the UK Supreme Court ruled that the terms “woman” and “sex” refer strictly to a biological woman and biological sex.

She described the actors — among them being Eddie Redmayne, Paapa Essiedu and Katie Leung — as “back-stabbing colleagues” who she said are “motivated by fear.”

The HBO series has already led to death threats aimed at Essiedu after he was announced as Severus Snape, prompting heightened security around the production.

Rowling has continued to champion the reboot, recently replying to a fan who praised early footage: “It’s going to be incredible. I’m so happy with it.”

The new “Harry Potter” series is expected to debut over Christmas 2026 on HBO and stream on HBO Max.

Man City vs Liverpool: Only Four Reds in Combined XI as Stats Unveil Surprise England Star Amid Arne Slot’s Challenging Season

0

The FA Cup is back in action this weekend, with a highly anticipated quarter-final match between Manchester City and Liverpool unfolding at the Etihad Stadium. This encounter promises to be a thrilling spectacle as both teams vie for a coveted spot in the semi-finals at Wembley.

For Liverpool, the match offers a chance to rejuvenate their season, while Manchester City is keen on adding another feather to their cap, building on their recent triumph in the Carabao Cup. Both teams have experienced fluctuating fortunes this season, with star players not quite reaching their usual stellar performances.

As Saturday’s showdown looms, an intriguing question arises: which players from these two football giants would make it into a combined starting XI? Analysts have delved into the statistics to assemble a team featuring the top talents from Pep Guardiola’s and Arne Slot’s squads.

According to a Sofascore rating, which averages at 7.04 out of 10, Gianluigi Donnarumma has stood out remarkably. The goalkeeper has been a formidable presence throughout the season, securing 14 clean sheets across various competitions.

Gianluigi Donnarumma has been fantastic between the sticks all season with 14 clean sheets across all competitions.

The Italian has endured a mixed couple of weeks, first lifting his maiden trophy as a Manchester City player, before suffering the blow of missing out on the World Cup again with Italy.

He is yet to start in the FA Cup this campaign, with Trafford likely to get the nod again this weekend following his time away with England. Donnarumma’s overall impact between the posts earns him the nod here ahead of Allison Becker in this combined XI.

Right Wing Back: Dominik Szoboszlai

Sofascore rating: 7.4/10

Dominik Szoboszlai gets the nod at right-back ahead of Matheus Nunes having impressed out of position at various stages this season.

Meanwhile, Jermie Frimpong was taken off after just 13 minutes during the Netherlands’ clash on Tuesday, which only strengthens Szobszlai’s case here.

Szoboszlai has shown his versatility all season long in a deeper role, while still contributing going forward, with two goals in the FA Cup and a nous for scoring the spectacular from set-pieces.

Nunes has earned his plaudits for also adapting well to an unfavourable position, but he’s not done enough to oust the Hungarian at right wingback.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been utilised at right back and flourished for Arne Slot

Dominik Szoboszlai has been utilised at right back and flourished for Arne Slot

Right Centre Back: Ibrahim Konate

Sofascore rating: 7.05/10

A mixed season is one way to describe Konate’s campaign. The Frenchman has fallen below the lofty standards he set himself last season – which had seen him linked with a move to Real Madrid – with the former Leipzig man faltering in costly moments for his side.

But the stats boffins have determined that he has done enough to scrape into this XI ahead of City counterparts Marc Guehi and Abdukodir Khusanov.

Centre Back: Ruben Dias

Sofascore rating: 7.15/10

Ruben Dias remains a staple at the back for Manchester City and, when fit, is one of the first names on the team sheet for Pep Guardiola.

The Portuguese defender is yet to start in the FA Cup this season, but with a huge clash against Liverpool looming, he will be recharged and ready to play a key role in City’s push towards the business end of the campaign.

He gets the nod here in this combined XI thanks to his leadership and reliability in the big moments and Guardiola will surely be counting on the defender if they’re to build on their Carabao Cup success.

Left Centre Back: Virgil van Dijk

Sofascore rating: 7.32/10

In a campaign where Liverpool have proved leaky at the back, Virgil van Dijk is continuing to look to set the standard at the heart of defence for Arne Slot’s side.

The Dutchman has chipped in with five goals across all competitions this season, underlining his threat at both ends, and was also on the scoresheet for the Netherlands against Norway during the international break.

With silverware still up for grabs for Liverpool, could this be the perfect opportunity for Van Dijk to inspire a saved season for the Reds?

Left Wing Back: Jeremy Doku

Sofascore rating: 7.31/10

Jeremy Doku just edges his way into this combined XI in the left wing back role, providing a constant attacking threat for Manchester City this season.

The Belgian winger has impressed with his direct running and ability to stretch defences, proving a real outlet in wide areas during key moments of the campaign.

He narrowly gets the nod ahead of Nico O’Rielly, who also caught the eye and posted a solid 6.85 SofaScore rating. Despite his two goals in the Carabao Cup final last time out, Doku’s attacking impact overall just gives him the edge.

Defensive Midfield: Nico Gonzalez

Sofascore rating: 7.01/10

Gonzalez is a player who has quietly gone about his business since his £60m move from Porto, flying somewhat under the radar at Manchester City.

The Spaniard hasn’t quite grabbed the headlines in the same way as some of his teammates, but his composure on the ball and ability to keep things ticking in midfield have made him an asset in Guardiola’s system.

With the season reaching a pivotal stage, Gonzalez could yet prove to be a key figure in City’s push for more silverware.

Defensive Midfield: Ryan Gravenberch

Sofascore rating: 7.1/10

Ryan Gravenberch has established himself as an integral figure in Liverpool’s midfield since his arrival from Bayern Munich, delivering consistently high-level performances.

The Dutchman has kept team-mate Curtis Jones out of this side, underlining just how important he has become in Slot’s system. With four goals and three assists in 29 Premier League appearances, Gravenberch has added real output to his game.

Attacking Midfield: Phil Foden

Sofascore rating: 6.99/10

Phil Foden earns his place in the front three for Manchester City, just edging out teammate Bernardo Silva for a spot in the combined XI.

After a bright start to the campaign, Foden has struggled to find consistency in recent weeks – with Thomas Tuchel’s comments in the international break sparking concern for his place at the World Cup.

Guardiola has turned to his other attacking options for a spark recently but the stats boffins have backed the Mancunian to deliver for his boss in the vital moments as we enter the pointy end of the campaign.

Attacking Midfield: Rayan Cherki

Sofascore rating: 7.3/10

Rayan Cherki and Florian Wirtz have started to show the reasons they signed for their respective clubs. Cherki just nips Wirtz for a starting XI spot though, providing a strong influence on a more consistent basis than the German.

Yet to get off the mark in the FA cup, he will be looking to change things this weekend. He has 11 assists and nine goals across all competitions, remarkable numbers that highlight his growing influence.

At just £34m, many would argue he has been one of the best-value signings of the season.

Erling Haaland occupies the centre forward position with a rating of 7.26/10

Erling Haaland occupies the centre forward position with a rating of 7.26/10

Striker: Erling Haaland

Sofascore rating: 7.26/10

Erling Haaland completes a Manchester City-heavy front line – and for good reason.

The Norwegian continues to deliver in front of goal and boasts an impressive record against Liverpool, having scored five goals against the Merseyside club.

However, Saturday presents a new challenge, with Haaland yet to face Liverpool in the FA Cup, another competition he will be looking to net past them in. As he aims to bring more silverware to Manchester City, he will be looking to bring the goals back into his game and have a strong end to the season.

With Alexander Isak out injured for most of the campaign and Hugo Ekitike blowing hot and cold. there can be no argument against Haaland’s inclusion in this team.

Unlock Unbelievable Flavor: James Martin Reveals the Secret Ingredient for Perfect Roast Lamb

James Martin

This weekend traditionally sees roast lamb take pride of place on British dinner tables. The meat has long been the star attraction at Easter Sunday lunches, and culinary experts have shared their advice on the finest way to prepare the dish.

This weekend, roast lamb is set to once again dominate British dining tables, particularly during Easter Sunday meals. This traditional dish has been a centerpiece for many families, and culinary specialists are offering their top tips on how to best prepare it.

Among the experts is renowned chef James Martin, who suggested enhancing the flavor of the lamb by adding a couple of special ingredients before cooking.

In a video posted on the Food Network UK’s YouTube channel, James demonstrated his method by making several incisions in the lamb.

These slits were filled with garlic and a touch of lavender. He pointed out that the rich taste of lamb demands equally strong flavors to balance it, which is why he opted for garlic and lavender.

Although lavender might seem like an unusual choice, James assured viewers that it “pairs beautifully” with lamb.

James elaborated on how best to use lavender when preparing the dish, reports the Mirror.

He advised: “If you grow this [lavender] in your garden, and you’re going to do this dish snip off the little heads that go on there, the little purple heads, before you place it into the lamb. Catch it before it flowers or trim off those purple tops and then insert this little spring inside each little hole.

“It’s quite strong is lavender so you only need a little bit, so just place a sprig of the lavender inside each hole where you’ve put the garlic. Makes sure it’s nice and compact and you’ve got this lovely combination of garlic and lavender.”

However, James isn’t the only chef to have shared his thoughts on the finest way to prepare a superb roast lamb, with TikTok creator John Gregory-Smith also entering the debate.

Rather than following James’s lead, John opted to infuse his lamb with lemon, garlic, rosemary, as well as salt and pepper, rather than lavender and garlic.

Much like James, he achieved this by piercing holes in the lamb before loosely covering it with baking paper and tinfoil. He said: “This time I have a full-on feast for you, starting off with slow-cooked lamb that you pull apart and serve with lashings of gravy.

“I’m going to show you how to make the ultimate slow-cooked roast lamb for the Easter weekend. Flavoursome butter with lemon, garlic, rosemary and plenty of salt and pepper.”

In addition to incorporating butter and rosemary, John slow cooked the lamb for four hours prior to adding lemon butter.

Since uploading the clip to the social media platform, John’s video has accumulated over 15,000 views.

While there are numerous roast lamb recipes currently circulating, Britons have been cautioned that the cost of their roasts has increased. According to the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) think tank, UK households have faced additional expenses over the past three years.

Speaking to the Independent, a food and farming analyst at the think tank said: “Lamb prices are through the roof after droughts, extreme heat and heavy rainfall have hit farmers’ costs of production, weakening grass growth and not allowing the depleted hay stores they depend on time to recover.”

Ioan Gruffudd Disputes Former Wife Alice Evans’ Financial Hardship Allegations in Court Proceedings

0

During a court hearing in Los Angeles on Friday, actor Ioan Gruffudd claimed that his ex-wife, Alice Evans, had a substantial amount of money in the bank while she was soliciting funds through a GoFundMe campaign. Evans, known for her public plea for financial assistance, reportedly had $100,000 at her disposal, according to Gruffudd.

The 52-year-old “Fantastic Four” actor presented this information while testifying in a case where Evans is requesting an increase in her monthly spousal support from the current $1,500, whereas Gruffudd is seeking to terminate it entirely.

Following their separation in early 2021, Evans, 57, initiated a GoFundMe campaign, asserting that she was financially destitute and struggling to provide for herself and their two daughters, Ella, now 16, and Elsie, 12.

Gruffudd recounted in court that Evans portrayed herself on social media as a desperate single mother who had depleted all her resources, claiming she had no money for essentials and was without support. However, he noted that she was residing in the family home at the time, with all her expenses covered by him.

Despite Evans’ public claims of financial hardship, Gruffudd stated she had about $100,000 in her account, contradicting her narrative of being out of resources and facing financial ruin.

She was living rent-free and I was paying the mortgage.’

Earlier in the trial that started a month ago, Judge Michael Convey slapped Evans with a five-year restraining order over her campaign of harassment and abuse against Gruffudd, and his new wife, Australian actress Bianca Wallace, 33.

Now, in the second phase of the trial, Gruffudd is asking the judge to cut off spousal support altogether, ‘ based upon Alice’s persistent domestic abuse’ of him and her ‘many violations of a previous restraining order’.

When Alice Evans was pleading poverty and asking fans to pay into her GoFundMe account, she actually had $100,000 in the bank, her ex-husband, Fantastic Four star Ioan Gruffudd (pictured attending the Los Angeles trial in February) claimed in court Friday

He also claims that he has already ‘overpaid’ Evans by almost $400,000.

On the witness stand, Evans denied a contention from Gruffudd’s attorney that when she withdrew almost $90,000 from a joint account she had with Gruffudd, she hid the money by paying it to her kids’ nanny so that she could hold the cash for her.

She admitted that during 2021 and 2022, she paid sums of $10,000, $30,00 and two of $24,000 each to the nanny, totaling $88,000.

But she told the court that the nanny was suffering from cancer and needed the money for medical treatment, so Alice made payments as advances to the nanny who charged $900 a week for her services.

When Verano asked if the nanny ‘held on to any of that money for your benefit,’, Evans answered ‘No.’

And when the lawyer asked her ‘Did you use her (the nanny) to conceal funds? she again answered, ’No.’

Evans maintained that her age of 57 has ‘negatively impacted’ her ability to get acting jobs and she hasn’t been in a movie or TV series since 2016.

She also revealed that she suffers from an auto-immune disease that ‘can affect my ability to work…but I haven’t had a flare-up for three years.’

Evans told the court that she relies on ‘gifts from family, friends and fans’ to meet her monthly expenses which include $2,995 rent for her condo and $1,700 for groceries and household items.

The actress does make money attending fan conventions where she can earn between $4,000 and $12,000 a weekend posing for photographs, signing autographs and mingling with fans.

Supporters remember her roles in the TV shows Vampire Diaries and Lost and even the 2000 movie 102 Dalmations, in which she co-starred with Gruffudd.

Evans – who is fluent in French and Italian – admitted to Gruffudd’s attorney, Joseph Langlois, that she had not tried to find jobs outside acting, using her language or other skills.

But she added, ‘If I could earn enough money to support my children, I would be willing to move into a different field.’

At the end of the first phase of the trial March 4, Judge Covey agreed to Gruffudd’s request for a five-year renewal of a prior three-year restraining order against Evans.

The judge’s decision came after they heard how she had bombarded social media sites with denigrating and false posts about her ex and Wallace, who gave birth to their daughter, Mila, last November.

Cuba Frees 2,000 Inmates in Response to Trump Administration Pressure and Economic Energy Challenges

0

Amid escalating economic challenges linked to U.S. sanctions and an intensifying fuel crisis, Cuba has released over 2,000 prisoners.

The Cuban Embassy in Washington announced that 2,010 inmates have been granted pardons in accordance with the nation’s constitutional guidelines. These decisions considered factors such as the prisoners’ good behavior, time already served, and health issues.

“This act of compassion and national sovereignty was the result of a thorough evaluation of the nature of the offenses, the individuals’ commendable conduct while incarcerated, and the fact that they had completed a substantial part of their sentences,” stated the embassy in a message shared on X.

The individuals released comprise a diverse group, including young people, women, senior citizens, as well as both foreign nationals and Cuban citizens who had been living abroad before their imprisonment.

The government said it excluded prisoners convicted of serious crimes, including murder, sexual assault, violent robbery, drug offenses and corruption of minors, as well as repeat offenders.

The move marks the second prisoner release this year and comes during Holy Week, which Cuban officials described as a customary period for such actions.

The release comes as Cuba grapples with a deepening economic and energy crisis driven in part by a renewed pressure campaign from the Trump administration aimed at cutting off the island’s access to foreign oil. The restrictions have contributed to widespread fuel shortages, blackouts and growing unrest across the country.

President Donald Trump has threatened tariffs on any country that sends oil to Cuba and has pressured nations such as Mexico to halt shipments as part of a broader effort to squeeze the island’s energy supply.

The U.S. also allowed a tanker to deliver fuel to Cuba earlier this week after months of severe shortages, with the White House framing the move as a humanitarian exception rather than a shift in policy.

Trump has also escalated his rhetoric, recently saying “Cuba’s next” while discussing U.S. actions abroad, though he later sought to downplay the remark.

The deepening crisis has also sparked protests and clashes across the island.

Cuba has been under communist rule since Fidel Castro’s 1959 revolution, and is now led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who succeeded Raúl Castro in 2018.

Dumpster Dining: How One Family Saved $10,000 and Thrived in a Capitalist World

0
Emelie and Jon Watson have taken the ethos of “living with less” to an impressive new level.
The Brisbane couple and their two children are radical adopters of the growing sustainability movement in Australia.

The Watsons lead a lifestyle that might not be considered glamorous, but it allows them to live the life they had always envisioned.

“Living simply and inexpensively has given us the opportunity to give far more and do more good,” Jon told Nine.com.au.

“We live quite simply, but it’s far from being a sacrifice,” they explain.

“In Australia, we are incredibly fortunate to have access to so much. Just because we can consume more doesn’t mean we should,” Emelie remarked.

Emelie and Jon have the advantage of living without a mortgage and have the flexibility to decide when they want to work.

To support their family’s way of life, they engage in casual or part-time work, with Emelie involved in relief teaching and Jon in engineering, together earning around $190,000 annually.

“We’ve only ever worked a maximum of four days a week for a year,” Jon said, adding that the couple is now “trialling retirement”.

There’s no need for full-time hours when they rarely spend money on groceries.

The family regularly dumpster dive at local supermarkets to nab groceries that would otherwise be thrown away. (Supplied)

Meat, bread, fruit, vegetables and everything in between can be found discarded in a waste trip near the supermarket loading docks.

The family, on average, will spend less than $40 per week on extra food they may need – but say they go weeks without spending a cent.

“A year’s worth of dumpster diving for our family of four saves us between $7,000 and $10,000 on groceries,” Jon said.

“From Friday night until Sunday or Monday morning, we go twice a day, morning and night, until we find that the bin has been replenished.”

Emelie said it is “startling” to see just how much edible food goes straight into the bins of an evening.

Supermarkets habitually throw out food that is either past its “best before” date or are slightly imperfect.

“We’ve shared some of our spoils with other people who’ve not been into dumpster diving, and when they see the quality of the food that we get out of the dumpster and the quantity, they’re shocked,” Emelie said.

“There’s no compromise really on our diet or our nutrition,” Jon added.

“In fact, we probably eat better eating what we take out of the waste stream than what we would normally.”

Living more with less - John and Emelie Watson
The Watsons say they save up to $10,000 per year by dumpster diving. (Supplied)

The Watsons say their local supermarket is aware that they take food from the dumpster.

They are mindful of being respectful of staff and employ safe practices.

“If you make anything difficult for the staff or the store, you just give them excuses to lock you out and lock other people out as well, who may depend on dumpster diving for survival” Jon said.

Australia’s major supermarkets have previously discouraged people from dumpster diving, citing health and safety risks.

Emelie and Jon say the risk is worth the reward.

“If we get the timing wrong, we’re exposed to maggots and putrid stuff. But life is not without risk,” Jon explained.

“We experience a little bit of discomfort in order to do the right thing.

“The reason that it’s all being wasted is because of a hyper-concern about minimising risk, which proves to be very wasteful.”

The family cycle everywhere instead of driving. (Supplied)

The savings extend far beyond groceries.

The couple also choose to cycle everywhere instead of using a car, helping them avoid potentially thousands of dollars in extra fuel costs while motorists battle soaring prices at the pump.

At home, they use a veggie garden, rely on solar panels for power and pick up anything they need at second-hand stores, tips or curbside.

“Most of our life is designed around doing things without needing a car or without needing any substantial resources,” Jon added.

“I’d say that we’ve won at capitalism, and I don’t just mean financially.”

Part of Emelie and Jon’s lifestyle, described as “living more with less”, is to help fund their charitable endeavours.

In 2024, the pair funnelled over $47,500 of their annual income to healthcare, food insecurity and educational organisations.

It’s all about making the earth a better place and minimising their footprint while they are doing it.

“There is reward and satisfaction, feeling like part of a solution rather than part of a problem,” Jon said.

Tragic Incident at Peru’s Alejandro Villanueva Stadium: One Dead, Many Injured

0

In a tragic turn of events, at least one individual lost their life and numerous others were injured on Friday during the lead-up to a soccer derby at Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in Lima, Peru. The incident occurred just a day before the anticipated match between Alianza Lima and Universitario, according to a statement by Alianza Lima.

The club expressed its condolences and extended solidarity to the victims, with reports indicating that around 60 people were injured during the event, known locally as a “flag-waving event,” at the stadium, which is commonly referred to as Matute.

Alianza Lima pledged to cooperate fully with authorities to shed light on the incident, emphasizing their commitment to “total transparency” in unraveling the cause, which remains unclear at this time.

Both Alianza Lima and a fire department official ruled out any structural issues with the stadium. Fire official Marco Pajuelo informed news outlet Canal N that preliminary assessments showed no structural damage and confirmed that no one had fallen into a pit. “There hasn’t been any debris,” he stated.

“Based on what has been assessed, no structure has been affected,” fire official Marco Pajuelo told news channel Canal N, saying an initial inspection showed no one had fallen into a pit. “There hasn’t been any debris.”

Saturday’s match would proceed as planned, the Peruvian Professional Soccer League said.

“We will continue to work closely with the clubs and authorities to promote safe environments both inside and outside the stadiums,” it added in a statement.

Comprehensive Guide to the Wookiee Jedi in Star Wars Lore

0

When you think of Wookiees in the “Star Wars” saga, it’s likely that Chewbacca is the first to spring to mind. Best known as Han Solo’s trusty sidekick, he’s a master with a bowcaster and, despite not receiving the Medal of Yavin for his pivotal role in the Death Star’s destruction, he undeniably earned it. However, Chewbacca isn’t the only notable Wookiee. Some Wookiees possess unique abilities that even Chewbacca doesn’t have.

Enter Gungi, a Wookiee from the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” What sets Gungi apart is his sensitivity to the Force and his journey to becoming a Jedi. Initially, George Lucas, the creator of “Star Wars,” was hesitant about including Wookiee Jedi, but over time, several have made their way into the official storyline. Although Gungi has yet to appear in live action, his story reveals him as a formidable character, from securing his kyber crystal to surviving the catastrophic Order 66.

Gungi’s journey in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” begins with his training as a Jedi. As one of the standout young trainees, he earns the opportunity to travel to the icy planet Ilum alongside Yoda and Ahsoka Tano. There, he participates in the Gathering, a ceremony where young Jedi discover the kyber crystal that resonates with them. For Gungi, this means exercising patience, as his green kyber crystal lies on a patch of land encircled by freezing waters. He must wait for the water to solidify into ice, enabling him to safely retrieve his crystal.

However, the triumph of their mission on Ilum is short-lived. The infamous pirate Hondo Ohnaka boards their vessel, intending to seize and sell the precious kyber crystals. Although the Jedi and their trainees fend him off, the confrontation severely damages their ship, leaving Ahsoka stranded in space temporarily. Eventually, the group rescues her from the planet Florrum. During the downtime aboard their ship, Gungi and his fellow trainees focus on constructing their lightsabers using the newly acquired crystals.

Gungi found a kyber crystal and survived a pirate attack

Despite rescuing Ahsoka, their escape from Florrum is thwarted as their ship is destroyed, leading to their capture by Hondo Ohnaka. The pirate has plans to keep them, but an attack by General Grievous interrupts, forcing the young Padawans to ally with Ohnaka to overcome a shared adversary and escape Grievous’s clutches.

However, the success and excitement of their trip to Ilum is cut short when well-known galactic pirate Hondo Ohnaka boards the ship with the intent to steal and sell the kyber crystals. While the Jedi and Jedi-in-training successfully fight him off, their ship is damaged and Ahsoka ends up stuck in space. The group does eventually rescue her from planet Florrum; in their downtime on the ship, Gungi and his fellow trainees build their lightsabers with their new crystals.

Despite saving Ahsoka, their ship is destroyed when they try to get away from Florrum, and they’re taken captive by Hondo Ohnaka. While the pirate clearly aims to keep them, General Grievous attacks, giving the young Padawans a chance to escape by joining forces with the pirate in a common goal: surviving Grievous.

Gungi hid during the Great Jedi Purge

The Great Jedi Purge, starting with the enactment of Order 66, is the mass genocide of Jedi orchestrated by Darth Sidious during his reign over the Galactic Empire. Over the span of 16 years after the Clone Wars, the Sith methodically exterminated Jedi and anything connected to the Jedi Order. The intent was to effectively kill off all Jedi, trying to prevent them from having the population numbers to rise up against the Sith. Order 66 was how the Sith justified their actions; the order would deem Jedi traitors, with death as their punishment.

Gungi was a young Jedi at the time of the Great Purge, but he managed to survive. It isn’t clear exactly how he escaped the Sith other than that he hid for a long time, though where isn’t known. At one point, he is captured by the criminal cartel known as the Vanguard Axis, who meant to sell him to the highest bidder because he’s a Wookiee. Omega, a female clone of Jango Fett, breaks him out and helps him escape aboard the Clone Force 99 ship in “Star Wars: The Bad Batch.”

Gungi goes home to Kashyyyk

After Omega and Clone Force 99 help Gungi get away from the Vanguard Axis, they take him back to Kashyyyk, his forested home planet. However, Imperial Forces currently control it, which means they not only have to be sneaky about landing on the planet, but they have to avoid patrols that could recapture the wanted Jedi fugitive. As they head to his village, Gungi shows his skills outside of fighting with a lightsaber, using the Force to communicate with some native arachnids known as netcasters, convincing the creatures that he and the group mean them no harm.

Though they find Gungi’s home in ruins, destroyed by a fire, he meets another Wookiee. He’s then guided to a different village, led by the Wookiee elder Yanna. Gungi settles with them, helping the village fight against the reptilian Trandoshans trying to exploit the land for natural resources under Imperial rule. The Wookiees set a trap for the bounty hunters, who are en route because they know there’s a Jedi sniffing around; the Trandoshans are defeated with the help of the netcasters from before. This battle helps Gungi realize he wants to stay in the village, aiding in the effort to protect Kashyyyk from the Imperial Forces, and giving the Wookiee a home after going into hiding during the Great Purge.

A tragic incident unfolded in Texas when a toddler accidentally shot a two-year-old in the head after discovering an unsecured firearm, authorities reported.

The incident occurred during a family gathering near Houston on Friday afternoon, turning a casual reunion into a scene of chaos and concern.

Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene on Onaleigh Drive in the Channelview area, close to Woodforest Boulevard and Dell Dale Street, at around 12:15 p.m., as detailed by Fox 26.

Juan, who preferred not to disclose his last name, shared with ABC13 that the young victim of the shooting was his grandson.

“My wife was in shock, rushing out of our room and screaming for help, unable to articulate anything clearly,” Juan recounted. “She was covered in blood and desperately urged us to call 911,” he added.

Police said approximately seven adults were eating lunch in the living room while the two boys were alone in a bedroom.

Juan said he was sleeping when his wife woke him, demanding he call the police.

As the family rushed to the bedroom, they saw the four-year-old holding the gun as the two-year-old bled out. According to Click 2 Houston, the boys are not siblings.

He underwent surgery in the intensive care unit and is now recovering in critical but stable condition. He is expected to survive.

The child’s mother, reported KHOU, was at work at the time of the shooting, but police said at least one parent was present.

Juan told police that the firearm belonged to a family friend, 25-year-old Santiago Daniel Canet. He was among multiple people at the scene who were visiting the home from out of town.

The traumatized grandfather claimed Canet’s gun had typically been stored on the top shelf of a closet. But investigators said it was unsecured and accessible to small children.

As a result, Canet was arrested and charged with making a firearm accessible to a minor. He was booked in the Harris County Jail.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the family secured the gun when police arrived and everyone cooperated with the investigation.

Crimes Against Children Investigators were also at the scene. County officials said Child Protective Services may become involved.

The area around the home was taped off all day as police swarmed the scene, gathering preliminary information for the investigation.

As of Friday afternoon, Major Ben Katrib stated that the information was still very limited.

‘All of this information is preliminary, of course and subject to change,’ he told the press.

‘It’s always important to secure the firearm for anyone who is thinking about buying a firearm that does not have one,’ Katrib added.

‘If you have children or children might visit your home, they are spontaneous, they are curious. So if you do not have enough money to buy a safe or anything to secure the handgun or any firearm, then you should not buy it.’

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez issued a statement after a second child was shot in a separate incident the same day.

‘Today is heartbreaking. Two children shot in separate incidents. Safe firearm storage saves lives,’ he wrote. ‘Lock it. Secure it. Keep it out of reach. This is about protecting our kids. We all have a role to play.’

A three-year-old suffered a gunshot wound in Houston on Friday afternoon, reported KHOU

Investigators said the shooting was believed to be ‘negligent discharge,’ though it is unclear who may have fired the gun.

The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.
