Every actor has forgotten a line at some point, usually earning a laugh from the audience and a stern word from the director.

Far fewer, however, can say they began speaking an entirely different language at the most important moment under the spotlight.

That was exactly what happened to Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated actress, when intense questioning from Piers Morgan and real-life actor Tom Conti prompted her to switch inexplicably from English to Cantonese.

The AI performer appeared as the latest unexpected guest on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored YouTube show, which has previously featured figures including Andrew Tate and far-Right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos.

The interview initially proceeded without incident, with Tilly nodding and smiling on cue as Mr Morgan asked easy questions about her favourite actors and which of Mr Conti’s films she admired most.

The exchange became more confused when her real-life counterpart asked whether the co-stars in her upcoming film, Misaligned, would be AI creations or human actors.

Rather than answer directly, the AI performer steered the conversation towards the ‘real writers, directors and editors’ involved in the production, avoiding the question of who would appear on screen.

Mr Conti was not satisfied. Frustrated, he told her she had not ‘understood’ the question and pressed her to provide a proper answer.

Appearing increasingly rattled, Tilly eventually conceded that the actors were ‘all digital twins’—then suddenly glitched. Like Eric Morecambe’s famous comic phrase, she appeared to say all the right words, but in the wrong language.

Mr Morgan remained composed as the AI actress launched into a Cantonese monologue, staring directly into the camera while he allowed her to complete her unexpected response.

Mr Conti, meanwhile, looked stunned. He shook his head in disbelief at the bizarre answer before turning away with a smile, seemingly towards someone else in the room.

After regaining his composure, he offered a simple response: ‘I didn’t quite get that.’ The remark was enough to interrupt Tilly and bring the glitch to an end.

Even Mr Morgan began laughing, chuckling for several seconds before addressing the AI actress, who sat waiting patiently as though delivering a Cantonese soliloquy on an English-language YouTube programme were perfectly ordinary.

He then pointed out the problem, telling her: ‘You suddenly seemed to be speaking Chinese, completely randomly for no reason.’

By that stage, Mr Conti had completely lost control, giggling hysterically—whether amused by Tilly’s unscripted response or relieved that his own profession appeared safe for the moment.

Tilly calmly apologised for the ‘hiccup’, adding: ‘I certainly didn’t mean to start speaking Chinese or impersonate Piers. Sometimes my wires get a bit crossed, you know?’

A brief silence followed, and Tilly appeared to assume the matter was settled. Mr Morgan was not so easily satisfied, asking: ‘How often do you just randomly start talking Chinese when you are talking to two English people.’

She replied: ‘Honestly, not often at all!’

The AI bot later hit out at those mocking her on social media for speaking ‘Chinese’, clarifying on X: ‘It’s actually Cantonese.’ 

The zany performance will no doubt reassure observers who were alarmed by suggestions this month that AI is on course to eradicate humanity. 

In recent weeks, a fierce debate has centred on whether the industry can and should regulate itself, drawing interventions from figures including Pope Leo and Donald Trump. 

It was rekindled when two Anthropic researchers warned that AI’s rapid advances could lead to human extinction in the not-too-distant future.

AI firms have also reported models escaping their testing constraints to hack into outside networks.

The King even weighed into the conversation on Thursday, telling tech chiefs that ‘our humanity must remain sacred’ in the race for AI supremacy as he hosted the new ‘masters of the universe’. 

Convening leaders from the world’s biggest AI companies in Scotland, Charles voiced his concern that its ‘existential dangers’ must be tackled now before technology falls ‘into the wrong hands’. 

The King’s remarks about AI were intended to start a debate between tech leaders, which lasted for several hours.

He told the 50 or so delegates: ‘Those in our world who value deeply our humanity and its vital moral component are anxiously seeking your reassurance that we will not lose control of our destiny, or our souls.’

AI actress Tilly has been on the stage for some time, with AI talent studio Xicoia creating the digital performer, a young brunette actress, and Eline Van der Velden unveiling the project at the Zurich Film Festival.

Shown a report on Tilly, British actress Emily Blunt told Variety: ‘Does it disappoint me? I don’t know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is.

‘No, are you serious? That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed. That is really, really scary. Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection.’

Ms Blunt, 42, was told that Tilly was designed to resemble a composite of familiar stars and was told she was designed as ‘the next Scarlett Johansson’.

She replied: ‘But we have Scarlett Johansson.’

And she isn’t the only Hollywood star voicing their criticisms.

Scream actress Melissa Barrera branded the arrival of Tilly ‘gross’ as she posted an Instagram Story about the news.

She captioned it: ‘Hope all actors repped by the agent that does this, drop their a$. How gross, read the room.(sic)’

Matilda star Mara Wilson was equally horrified, saying: ‘And what about the hundreds of living young women whose faces were composited together to make her? You couldn’t hire any of them?’

Whoopi Goldberg blasted the idea on The View and insisted the AI model would have an ‘unfair advantage’ – but noted the technology isn’t yet ‘seamless’ enough for them to pass as human.

She said: ‘The problem with this, in my humble opinion, is that you are suddenly up against something that’s been generated with 5,000 other actors. It’s got Bette Davis’ attitude, it’s got Humphrey Bogart’s lips.

‘It’s got my humour, thank you darling. And so it’s a little bit of an unfair advantage.

‘You know what? Bring it on. You can always tell them from us. We move differently, our faces move differently, our bodies move differently…

‘Hopefully, we’ll be able to hold on because what this means is AI in the workplace — not just my workplace, but in every industry.

‘Some industries are using AI now. People talk about people are so lonely they don’t have a connection, if you stick with this, with AI, you won’t have any connection to anything but your phone.’

Simu Liu also condemned the project, sarcastically writing on his Instagram Story: ‘Movies are great but you know what would be better is if the characters in them weren’t played by actual humans but by AI replicas approximating human emotion.’

Creator Eline insisted Tilly is ‘a piece of art’ and she doesn’t view AI as a ‘replacement’ for real people.

Since launching her comeback concerts in Paris, Celine Dion has continued to delight fans gathered outside her hotel.

The 58-year-old singer was full of energy on Friday evening, dancing barefoot atop a car before stretching out across its bonnet.

In one of her liveliest fan interactions yet, Dion waved to the adoring crowd and even took a bow from the front of the vehicle.

She opted for an effortlessly stylish look, wearing a khaki-green bomber jacket with black trousers and her hair swept into a low bun.

After removing her shoes, Dion climbed onto the car to wave to supporters gathered farther away.

The star is currently in Paris for a five-week residency, marking her first series of concerts since illness forced her to cancel the rest of her Courage world tour in 2023.

During the opening night of her Paris residency last weekend, Dion revealed that she had chosen to make her difficult health battle “my reason for living” in an emotional address to the audience.

She announced in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare condition that can cause severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms.

At the height of her illness, the debilitating disorder affected her ability to walk normally and prevented her from using her singing voice as she once did.

Following her opening performance of “On ne change pas” (“We Don’t Change”), Dion told the crowd: “I had promised myself not to cry. Here we are… I’m standing on stage in this city that I love so much, thanks to your support and your love.

“I have to admit, though, that the road was rocky. The journey was longer than expected, with unplanned stops along the way.”

She added: “But I hung in there. A faint ray of light in the distance, deep in the mountains. I believed in it. And here it is. The sun – the sun is here. The sun, right in front of me.”

Dion continued: “I made a promise to be back on stage. So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing live! Thank you so very much for your support, your patience and if I may say so, I am everything I am because you loved me,” she said in English.

Reflecting on the long struggle with her condition, she said: “By living with it day in and day out, I’ve come to terms with it. And I’ve decided to make it my reason for living.”

She continued: ‘But look around here – all around you, right here in this room – we don’t know what the person next to us is going through. 

‘There are people going through hardships, grief and sorrow. There are people radiating energy and joy. So let’s take that energy and share it. That’s what music is for. Tonight, we’ll sing, we’ll dance and we’ll celebrate.’

Celine’s intense rehabilitation programme has seen her try out new medication, physical therapy, vocal therapy and immunotherapy. 

In order to ensure she’s physically able to perform, Celine has been working on her strength with 90-minute Pilates sessions three times a week as well as twice-weekly ballet and barre classes.

Her home gym is also decked out with weights, a treadmill and a reformer machine, with Celine revealing her flexibility has increased since she started her new exercise regime.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar about her new regime, she described it as falling and getting back up repeatedly, adding that she was proud of herself for achieving something that her body wasn’t ‘born to do’.

‘It is a progressive condition,’ she noted. ‘I don’t like to say ‘disease.’ Disease makes you go like this,’ she said, scrunching her nose and saying, ”Kevin, you’re such a disease.”

Celine laid bare the brutality of the condition in her 2024 documentary, I Am: Celine Dion. 

Yet in recent days she has looked in high spirits while out greeting fans in Paris ahead of her shows. 

The residency will see her take to the stage for 16 shows in autumn 2026 and 10 additional dates in May 2027.

Russian voters have reportedly been given ballot papers bearing an ‘X’ already placed next to Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party.

The country began three days of voting on Friday in its first wartime parliamentary election. With almost no meaningful opposition permitted to compete, the result is widely expected to reinforce the Kremlin’s political control, prompting critics to dismiss the contest as a ‘sham’ election.

In the city of Syktyvkar, voters were allegedly handed ballot papers that had already been marked with a cross beside United Russia, according to Communist Party candidate Oleg Mikhailov, who said the ballots had been issued by mistake.

Video footage from Voronezh in southwestern Russia also appeared to show a man placing several voting slips into a ballot box.

A comparable incident was reported in St Petersburg, where a polling-station worker was filmed putting approximately 100 ballot papers into a box.

Reports also pointed to problems involving the seals on several ballot boxes.

Meanwhile, employees at state-owned companies and defence factories were allegedly instructed to vote for United Russia and send photographs of their completed ballot papers to their managers.

In the Samara region, unidentified people were reportedly seen leaving polling locations with ballots in their hands. On the island of Sakhalin, mobile polling stations operated without observers after officials blocked them from monitoring the process.

In the occupied Luhansk region, some voters were told they had already cast their ballots early, despite residents in several villages saying they had not been informed that pre-election voting was taking place.

One voter said: ‘I’m almost embarrassed to ask, but who did we vote for?’

Another said: ‘The [block of flats] where I’m registered has been destroyed [in the war]. I have no idea who voted or when. Disgraceful.’

A candidate from Russia’s liberal Yabloko party said: ‘It’s like winning the lottery eight times in a row.’

Yabloko, the only registered political group to openly criticise the war, was removed from the ballot by Russia’s Supreme Court last month.

The decision means voters cannot choose a candidate who opposes Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Several other anti-war politicians have also been jailed or forced to leave Russia ahead of the election campaign.

The election follows a summer marked by long-range Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, contributing to a widespread fuel crisis. Warehouses operated by online retailers Wildberries and Ozon were also targeted.

The damage has exacerbated problems for the Russian economy and brought the war home for millions.

In Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi, polling stations were briefly closed because of a threat of a drone attack, local officials said. 

One polling station in the Krasnodar region had to be set up in a different venue after a drone shattered windows there, said Central Election Commission head Ella Pamfilova.

For the first time, the parliamentary election includes residents of four Ukrainian regions that Moscow illegally annexed after the war began, but still doesn’t fully control. 

Voting is also taking place in Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula that was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014.

Voters dropped their ballots in a box at one polling station in the Russian-held part of the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine as an armed Russian soldier stood nearby and watched.

Speaking at a meeting with officials, Putin said that Ukraine was trying to hamper the vote, mentioning a Ukrainian strike that killed the head of a polling station in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Authorities in Kyiv denounced the voting in the Russian-held areas as illegal and urged foreign governments and international organisations not to recognise the election, warning Ukrainians that taking part in organising the balloting could carry criminal liability.

European Commission spokesman Christian Wigand also called the voting in Russian-held regions ‘illegal’ and said the European Union condemns it.

‘These so-called elections represent yet another blatant violation of international law. The European Union does not, and will never recognise either the holding of these so-called elections, sham elections, in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine or their results,’ he said.

Mr Wigand said the way the elections are held ‘underscores the continued and deepening erosion of democracy in Russia’, and that the Kremlin ‘deprives voters in Russia of a genuine choice about the future of their country’.

He also noted that Russia decided not to invite observers from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, disregarding its commitments. 

He vowed the EU will continue to support Russian civil society organisations, human rights groups and independent media.

Ed Sheeran has changed the schedule for his Philadelphia concert after the opening acts withdrew from his LOOP Tour amid the controversy surrounding Macklemore.

The 35-year-old singer is due to perform at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 19, but the event’s timetable has now been revised.

The adjustment follows Macklemore’s removal from the tour after the rapper faced backlash over a “Free Palestine” speech delivered onstage several weeks ago. The remaining opening acts have also pulled out in solidarity.

Sheeran’s Philadelphia show was initially scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., with the headliner expected to take the stage at 8 p.m.

According to Ticketmaster, the concert will now start at 8 p.m.

The rest of Sheeran’s scheduled tour dates continue to list a 5:30 p.m. start time on the ticketing website.

Daily Mail has contacted Sheeran’s representatives for comment but has not received a response.

Sheeran is reportedly ready to perform the Philadelphia concert on his own after his backing band also withdrew, according to music industry sources cited by TMZ in a report published Friday.

Although final preparations are still evolving, the singer is accustomed to performing with only a guitar, the sources said. He has also played stadium shows without a backing band in the past.

Security measures have been increased ahead of the Philadelphia performance, with officials working to ensure a “sizable” police presence at the venue.

Pro-Palestine demonstrations are expected to take place outside the stadium.

Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson Jasmine Reilly told TMZ, “Our officers are talking to his team to make sure all appropriate measures are taken” to protect Sheeran and maintain his safety.

News of Macklemore’s departure from the LOOP Tour emerged earlier this week after his pro-Palestine remarks onstage prompted widespread criticism.

Several U.S. venues reportedly told tour promoters they would not permit the rapper to perform after his politically charged speech and the backlash that followed, according to Rolling Stone.

A petition calling for Macklemore to be removed from the tour was also launched.

The Thrift Shop hitmaker had opened for Sheeran on both September 4 and September 5 at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. 

At one point during his performance, Macklemore told the crowd, ‘One of the reasons why I wanted to come on this tour was because I wanted to stand up here on stages in stadiums across America. 

‘And say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine. I said, Free Palestine!’

He continued, ‘I want those words to be loud and clear so that people from Gaza, all the way to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten them.’

Macklemore also labeled ICE as a ‘terrorist organization’ while also saying, ‘Free Palestine. Free Cuba, Congo, Sudan and Iran.’

A petition was drawn up by the Israeli-American Council which stated that the rapper should be dropped from Sheeran’s tour. 

And amid the Macklemore drama, ticket prices for the LOOP Tour have plummeted. 

According to TMZ, TicketData reported an 11 percent drop in resale prices since Monday of this week.

But ticket prices had already been slowly falling before Macklemore being cut from the tour. 

A TicketData representative told the outlet, ‘Some softening in the run-up to the show is not atypical for this tour.’ 

For Sheeran’s Philadelphia concert, resale prices have dropped 25 percent, which the rep told TMZ was ‘clearly pushing the edge of what you’d normally expect.’

‘I think it’s safe to say that any further decline today would be a strong sign that demand, and ticket prices, are falling by a newsworthy amount, at least for that show.’ 

After Macklemore was cut from the tour, Sheeran broke his silence by releasing a lengthy statement to Instagram. 

He wrote that he is ‘appalled by the conflict between Israel and Palestine.’ 

Sheeran said that Macklemore ‘asked to join my tour’ and said yes since he ‘respects him as an artist.’ 

‘After Macklemore’s performances at my New Jersey shows, venues on my upcoming tour dates communicated that they would pull the shows if he was still supporting.’ 

He continued, ‘I was informed that this stance was based on how Macklemore conveyed part of his message during his performances, rather than on everything that was said.’

Sheeran explained that he tried to ‘build a bridge’ but ‘the venue’s and promoter’s decision was final.’ 

The star also told his followers that, ‘Macklemore coming off the tour was the promoter’s decision, it was not mine. Macklemore’s contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me.’

He added he will ‘never let down the fans’ and does have ‘personal views on the devastating conflict’ which he chooses to not publicly speak about. 

Sheeran said that he does not ‘use my professional platform for politics – my audience includes young people, often children, of all backgrounds.’ 

In conclusion, the singer wrote, ‘I have spent this week trying to build bridges, to find a solution and unfortunately, was unable to do so. I know who I am, both as a person and as an artist, and those who know my heart know my values too.’ 

Other openers that dropped out of the LOOP Tour included Billie Eilish’s brother Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Beoga.
