Hasan Piker Calls Osama bin Laden a ‘Spoiled Brat,’ Calls 9/11 ‘Blowback’ in Axios Interview

0

Hasan Piker, the prominent streamer and YouTube commentator recognized for his progressive politics, described Osama bin Laden as a “spoiled brat” while discussing bin Laden’s stated rationale for planning the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Piker characterized the attacks as “blowback” tied to prior U.S. involvement in the Middle East.

In an interview with Axios, Piker addressed bin Laden’s grievances against the United States, including U.S. backing for Israel, American oil policy and the presence of U.S. military bases across the Middle East. He also pointed to bin Laden’s earlier connection to U.S. interests, noting that America trained, financed and supplied Afghan mujahideen during the Soviet-Afghan War.

“The action was so heinous and so violent that — and also … given his position as formerly an American ally — I think that he came across a little bit more as a spoiled brat that wasn’t getting his way. With many backers in the Saudi kingdom as well and the royal family,” Piker said.

The left-wing online personality said he would prefer a world in which fewer figures like bin Laden emerge at all.

“The other path of least resistance is to not interfere in these affairs in general and not continue to dominate and create an environment where people are going to seek out revenge and put us in a position of danger,” he said.

Piker described the 9/11 attacks as a “horrifying tragedy,” while again framing them as blowback stemming from U.S. conduct in the Middle East.

“Blowback is not a justification. Blowback is just what it is,” he said. “A justification offers either a moral condemnation or a moral acceptance of the act. I do not accept the act of 9/11 morally”.

Piker has also encountered backlash over another statement from the Axios conversation, in which he compared the United States with al Qaeda “pound for pound.”

“Pound for pound as far as the number of deaths, yes,” Piker said. “We have caused tremendous terror all around the world.”

Where Is Ranulph Fiennes? British Explorer Unseen in Public for a Year

0

The Royal Geographical Society held a gala evening on October 23, 2024, honouring the extraordinary life of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, widely described as ‘the world’s greatest living explorer’.

Its South Kensington headquarters is packed with reminders of his fearless expeditions, the kind of exploits that seem lifted from the pages of a Boy’s Own annual.

Suspended in the hallway is the sledge Fiennes hauled across Antarctica during his record-breaking unsupported crossing of the continent. The journey began in 1992 and, after 93 punishing days, concluded in 1993.

Visitors can also see a replica of the ‘radio hut’ from his remarkable pole-to-pole surface circumnavigation of the globe. The venture took seven years to prepare and almost three years to complete — an achievement no one else has matched.

Among his many feats, Fiennes scaled the north face of the Eiger at 62, reached the summit of Everest at 65 and helped discover Oman’s lost city of Ubar, often known as the ‘Atlantis of the Sands’.

Dinner guests were therefore keen to hear from the celebrated adventurer, then in his 80s, whose place among Britain’s greatest explorers has long been compared with that of Scott and Shackleton.

But he did not arrive.

Instead, the guest of honour appeared briefly in a pre-recorded video, speaking from his sofa.

‘Hello, everybody, Ran here,’ he said, glasses perched on his nose and reading from a script which was just out of shot.

‘I’m sorry I’m not well enough to be with you there this evening. Thank you for being my number one team. I do hope we will be together for many more adventures to come.’

Then the screen went blank and he was gone.

Who in the audience could have possibly imagined that it would be the last time Sir Ranulph was seen in public?

Letters wishing him well have been returned to senders unopened. The usual Christmas cards from him have never arrived.

His absence and silence – in the aftermath of that now haunting clip – have become the main topic of conversation among those who know and love him in email chains and WhatsApp groups.

Finally, nearly two years on, they have gone public.

‘Where in the world is Ranulph Fiennes?’ is the sensational headline of a new blog posted by his close friend Michael Kobold.

‘It’s time to unveil a secret: My friend of almost 30 years has gone missing and nobody besides a tiny handful of individuals seems to want to do anything to change this disgraceful status quo,’ he writes.

The filmmaker and author collaborated on one of Sir Ranulph’s books and has shared many adventures with him down the years, including hunting Nazi war criminals and taking part in climbing expeditions in the Alps and on Everest.

He reveals an extraordinary story – the hyperbole is justified in this case – behind the ‘disappearance’ of Sir Ranulph in his long and detailed missive.

It involves the intervention of his close friend King Charles, actor Joseph Fiennes – star of Shakespeare in Love, who is said to have joined the search for his cousin – and an ‘undercover operation’ at a London care home where Sir Ranulph was suspected to be living at one point. All of which makes astonishing reading.

‘That a national hero like Ran Fiennes could end up in such a predicament is shocking,’ added Mr Kobold.

The chain of events that has culminated in the ongoing mystery surrounding Sir Ranulph’s whereabouts began more than two decades ago with the death in 2004 of his beloved first wife Virginia ‘Ginny’ Fiennes, his childhood sweetheart, from cancer.

Sir Ranulph considered ending his own life after he lost the woman he had been married to for 34 years. But a little over a year later – against all expectations – he met someone who became his new wife.

At 38, Louise Millington-Cotes, a horse trainer from Cheshire, was 23 years younger than Sir Ranulph and had a young son, Alexander.

Sir Ranulph became a father for the first time at the age of 62 shortly after they were married when their daughter Elizabeth was born.

The couple, who met at a Royal Geographical Society event, divided their time between their two farms – one in the wilds of Exmoor, where Sir Ranulph trained for his expeditions by going on long runs, the other in the West Midlands.

Almost from the beginning, there were reports that all was not well. A string of key staff at Exmoor, including Sir Ranulph’s long-serving personal assistant and a couple who managed the estate, left after the arrival of the new Mrs Fiennes.

At the same time, his friends – many of whom were not invited to the wedding – spoke of being cut out since the marriage.

This sounds eerily familiar to Christopher Bowler, the former partner of Louise Fiennes and the father of Alexander. They split up soon after their son was born in 1995.

Mr Bowler, 65, who runs a hospitality business, exclusively told the Daily Mail this week: ‘I met Ranulph once or twice dropping Alexander off at the end of a weekend at a petrol station in Cheshire.

‘I felt like saying to him – one bloke to another – “Don’t do it, don’t marry her”. I could just see that he was going to have so much trouble and strife. In the end I didn’t say anything because I was nervous that he might have told her, and I probably wouldn’t have seen Alex ever again.

‘She cut me off from all my family and friends in subtle and not so subtle ways. They gave up calling because she would never tell me that they had rung. I ended up feeling very isolated.’

Indeed, not long after Ran and Louise were married, Mr Bowler told The Mail on Sunday of his troubling experiences with his ex, recalling that she had refused to name him as Alexander’s father. Consequently, he’d taken her to court and needed a DNA test in order to obtain reasonable access to the boy.

Mr Bowler said then: ‘She is like a chameleon – you never know where you are with her…

‘She liked to be in charge. Once we got together she started to try to alienate me from my friends. She seemed particularly worried if it was a woman on the telephone asking for me.

‘It was as if she was jealous of me having a wide circle of friends while she did not have many.

‘And she appeared to be frightened of getting too close to people. She even broke off any relationship with her mother and an aunt simply because I got on well with them.’

Of course there may be two sides to the story. While at the time Lady Fiennes did not respond to the allegations made by her former partner, she later did an interview in which she suggested that she was being unfairly portrayed by people.

Discussing why former staff had left, she said ‘when I saw that [the animals] were being allowed to deteriorate, the big bad wolf in me kicked up a fuss. So, of course, I am an evil, evil person’.

It’s hard to believe a man who famously sawed the tips off his frostbitten fingers at home because they were causing him so much pain could drop out of sight so completely.

Two years on from his disappearance, Sir Ranulph's family and friends have gone public in a bid to find him

Two years on from his disappearance, Sir Ranulph’s family and friends have gone public in a bid to find him

But the person Christopher Bowler used to meet at the petrol station to drop off his son, who was once a member of the SAS, is much older and more vulnerable now.

Sir Ranulph has spoken openly about his diagnosis of Parkinson’s and was forced to give up driving following a car accident in September 2024, not long before his tribute evening at the RGS.

Michael Kobold has now formed an unlikely trio with Arabella McIntyre-Brown, younger sister of Sir Ranulph’s late wife, and Ran’s stepson Alexander.

Now 31, the boy whose father had to go to court to be acknowledged has become estranged from his mother and joined forces to try to find the great explorer. As Mr Kobold writes: ‘Alexander Millington [Louise Fiennes’ estranged son] has now joined Arabella’s and my campaign. There are now three of us…’

Other friends have also been working tirelessly to find him.

According to Mr Kobold, Joseph Fiennes, who didn’t know his cousin as a child but who had become close to the Old Etonian in recent years, visited and phoned care homes in the hope they had admitted someone matching his description.

In the summer of 2025, news reached his friends that Sir Ranulph was indeed in a care home in Fulham under an alias. According to Mr Kobold, staff had been given instructions not to allow any visitors.

There could be a perfectly legitimate reason for this but Mr Kobold was undeterred in his quest.

So he came up with a plan that, to quote Arabella – a writer who lives in Romania – was like ‘stumbling into a John le Carre novel’.

He would pay for her to check into the home in the hope of making contact with her brother-in-law. ‘Arabella was the perfect spy for this mission,’ Michael disclosed in his blog.

‘She resides in Romania, has been very close with Ran since childhood, and thanks to several medical ailments and her advanced age, her week-long stay would not cause any concern for care home’s staff.

‘As expected, Arabella made her mark on the first morning of her stay. When she messaged me, she was at breakfast in the same communal room as Ran, I was elated. This was the first time in almost a year that anyone had seen him.

‘Arabella reported that Ran seemed in good condition for his age but was frail, nevertheless. After breakfast, she approached Ran and introduced herself. It took him a few moments to recognise Arabella, but once he made the connection Ran was warm and chatty.’

Their joy did not last long.

‘Shortly after the meeting, Ran was removed from the communal area by the staff in an effort to forestall any further interaction between him and Arabella… whom Ran considers his little sister,’ his old friend explained in his explosive blog.

‘For the rest of her week-long stay, Arabella never saw or heard from Ran again. She checked his room on several occasions and found it to be empty. After her stay had concluded and she returned home to Romania, Arabella was contacted by a resident whom she had befriended.

‘She told Arabella that Ran had been there the entire week and that he was isolated in a separate room. Now that Arabella had departed, Ran was back in his usual room and perusing the facility’s communal spaces.’

According to Mr Kobold, following this episode, Sir Ranulph was visited by a handful of his friends. There was another dramatic twist, however.

They had to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) promising not to reveal his location, his ‘physical and mental wellbeing’ or details of his healthcare. Again, there could be an innocent explanation. Sir Ranulph Fiennes was a private man, after all, and he might not have wanted such personal details to become public.

Even so, the issuing of NDAs was, by any standard, draconian. In any event, the visits did not last long and by the autumn of 2025 they had ended. Friends think Sir Ranulph has since been moved to different accommodation, but they have no idea where.

Michael says he took two further steps to find out the truth. He wrote to the Office of the Public Guardian, which exists to protect the elderly and the vulnerable from being exploited by those granted power of attorney.

Safeguarding teams in Sir Ranulph’s home town and in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham where the care home is located were also alerted.

Mr Kobold says they visited Sir Ranulph and reported back that he had given his wife power of attorney and had confirmed to officers that he was happy with that arrangement. As such, no further action would be taken.

After his efforts failed, he next wrote to King Charles.

Charles was a patron of Sir Ranulph’s most famous expedition when he and his team circumnavigated the world by land, sea and ice in 1983, which His Majesty called ‘the most ambitious undertaking of its kind ever attempted’.

They had been friends ever since. ‘I wrote a letter to his Majesty King Charles apprising him of Ran’s situation,’ Michael recounted. ‘A relative of the King whom I befriended decades ago personally conveyed the message to His Majesty. As a result, King Charles entrusted his personal equerry to look into this matter.’

The intervention came to nothing. And now, Michael Kobold has made his friend’s plight known to a wider audience.

Louise Fiennes was approached for comment in a letter delivered to her last known address but there has been no response. Meanwhile, Ran’s circle of devoted friends remain determined to see their beloved adventurer again.

At 82 and in fragile health, there may not be many years left to enjoy his singular character.

Chicago Lakefront Site Still a Parking Lot 10 Years After Lucas Exit

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — More than a decade after George Lucas unveiled plans for a Chicago museum south of Soldier Field, the proposed site remains a parking lot. Meanwhile, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is set to welcome visitors in Los Angeles next week.

Lucas initially envisioned the museum as a major new attraction for Chicago’s Museum Campus and South Side, near the site that now houses the Obama Presidential Center. The privately financed project, supported by Lucas and his wife, Melody Hobson, was expected to draw tourists and generate economic activity for the city.

“Between the two of them was to invigorate tourism, tourism dollars, visitors to the city which was a real number one agenda for the Mayor Emanuel,” said former Alderman Tom Tunney, who chaired the City Council’s Zoning Committee during former Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration.

Tunney said the proposal had considerable backing at City Hall.

“I think this would have been really amazing catalyst for future growth,” he said.

Still, the plan encountered fierce resistance from Friends of the Parks, which took the dispute to court. The group contended that building the museum at the proposed lakefront location would violate Chicago’s Public Trust Doctrine, requiring lakefront-connected land to stay open and accessible to the public.

“That parking lot by Soldier Field is a landfill, so it’s submerged land and therefore the public trust doctrine applies,” said Mary Lu Seidel, a preservationist consultant for HW Community Builders.

Friends of the Parks suggested alternate sites beyond the lakefront, but Lucas remained focused on locating the museum within Museum Campus. Following a two-year court fight, Lucas and Hobson withdrew the Chicago proposal and took the project to another city.

The 300,000-square-foot Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will open to the public in Los Angeles next week.

Looking back on the museum’s difficult journey to completion, Lucas said, “This one almost broke my will.”

The facility includes 100,000 square feet of gallery space devoted not only to Lucas’ filmmaking career and “Star Wars,” but also to exploring how people tell stories through art and images.

For opponents of the Chicago proposal, the outcome preserved a key principle governing the city’s lakefront.

Ten years after the proposal sparked debate, the former museum site remains a parking lot. As Chicago considers the future of the Museum Campus, Tunney said it is important for city leaders to work with Friends of the Parks on major projects affecting the lakefront.

MAFS’ Sarah Roza Says Stalkers Threatened to ‘Chop Her Into Pieces’

0

Married At First Sight (MAFS) star Sarah Roza has opened up about the frightening letters she received from four alleged stalkers in 2012, following her appearance on The Amazing Race.

The 47-year-old television personality competed on the program alongside her then-boyfriend, James Kingsbury, and says she was later harassed and subjected to violent threats from three men and a woman.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sarah detailed the disturbing messages sent to her home and recalled how Channel Seven moved her into a hotel for four months so she could stay out of sight.

‘I have a lot of people try to find out where I am. I’ve had lots of problems with stalkers. When I was on The Amazing Race, I had four stalkers,’ she says.

‘Three men. One was in Victoria, the rest were interstate. They all came down. They found out where I lived. They turned up at my house. One was in my backyard.’

‘I had the publicist ringing me and saying, “Pack a bag of clothes. Grab the dog. We’re going to pick you up.”‘

Sarah said the network paid for her to ‘live in Crown Towers for four months’ as she hid from the stalkers.

‘I couldn’t tell anybody where I was. There was somebody who would take the dog regularly for walks,’ she recalls.

‘Obviously, I was on the publicity trail still so I had media obligations to do. I never went back to that house. The rental agreement was voided. I went somewhere else.’

‘They would send me stuff in the mail. Presents and stuff. I even got the old fashioned, “I’m going to kill you and chop you into pieces.”

‘These were four separate people not known to each other.’

She added: ‘I’d get flowers and they were ripped to pieces… People would follow me into stores and learn my routine.

‘When I’d go for walks, they’d turn up. I think it’s because they feel close to you because they’ve seen you on TV and they like you on TV.’

While police investigated the messages she received and incidents she experienced, none of Sarah’s stalkers were ever uncovered as she was forced to abandon her home and move to a new house.

Elsewhere in the interview, Sarah also opened up about her dating life, saying she ‘has a lot of interest’ from men, but has no plans on getting into a relationship.

‘I have a lot of interest, but I’m not interested. I’ve built a life of pure calm and peace. I live with my dog Frankie. He’s my best friend,’ she says.

‘I’ve got beautiful friends. I’ve got a beautiful family. I’m having a great time, I’m never lonely, I’m always busy and booked. I go home, I go to bed, and I actually sleep.

‘It’s beautiful. I don’t have to worry about who’s texting me some random crap or having to coach somebody’s son on how to treat me.’

Sarah says when she was young she used to seek validation from men but now finds that she no longer cares for the attention.

‘I used to dream about the day some guy would come rescue me and it’s just not like that. I am the love of my life,’ she says.

The glamour model has an extensive career in television but is most commonly known for appearing on the fifth season of MAFS in 2018.

She was matched with Telv Williams on the series but they split shortly after the show finished airing.

Sarah is now set to attend Sxhibition in Melbourne, which will take place this weekend from September 18 to 20.

The expo will then head to the Gold Coast next year from April 30 to May 2.

Sarah will be the glamorous host at one of the shows being held at Sxhibition.

‘Give me a microphone, give me a stage, I love it. I’m not some wallflower that goes, “I don’t want to talk.” Give it to me,’ Sarah joked.

She says she will be hosting ‘either the pole dancer finals or the amateur strip tease finals’, adding that ‘it’s all going to be in jest and a bit of comedy’.

‘[Sxhibition is] really trying to make it more about health, wellness, education. Sex is for everybody… I’m going there for fun, frivolity, and a bit of sex appeal,’ she adds.

‘I’m going to be up on the stage and having fun with the audience.’

Gainesville Man Sentenced to Life for Sexual Assault of Two Girls

0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jermaine Lamorris Godbolt, 42, has been sentenced to two life terms in prison after he was found guilty of two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child younger than 12 while in a custodial role. Senior Judge William Slaughter imposed the sentences following a non-jury trial. Both charges are capital felonies.

Godbolt was arrested in May 2022 and has remained in the Alachua County Jail since then. A sworn complaint was filed in January 2021 after the victims’ grandmother saw a text message sent to one victim stating that she had been raped. When the grandmother questioned the child, she learned that the two sisters had allegedly been raped “every day” for several years, beginning when they were between 5 and 8 years old and while Godbolt was dating their mother. During a forensic interview, one victim said Godbolt threatened to “kill everybody” if she disclosed the abuse.

The case stretched on for years as Godbolt repeatedly dismissed his attorneys and filed pro se motions rather than working through counsel. His trial was ultimately held Sept. 1 and Sept. 17, with Judge Slaughter issuing the sentence on Sept. 17.

IVF Couple Allege Disturbing Surprise After Birth in Lawsuit

0

A Florida couple has launched legal action against their fertility doctor, alleging that an IVF error resulted in the use of the wrong sperm to conceive their baby.

Natalie Strong, 36, and her husband Joshua Strong, 53, welcomed a daughter last year following two rounds of in vitro fertilization at Brown Fertility Associates in Jacksonville.

But the lawsuit says a standard blood test performed after the baby’s birth raised immediate questions when it showed that the newborn has B-positive blood.

Natalie has O-negative blood, while Joshua has A-negative blood — a combination that, according to the couple, could not biologically produce a child with a positive blood type.

The Strongs filed a negligence lawsuit Thursday against the Jacksonville fertility clinic and Dr Samuel Brown, alleging that sperm belonging to someone other than Joshua was used during the creation of their embryos.

“The report confirmed that Natalie is the biological mother of the daughter she carried and delivered, conceived from the embryo Brown Fertility transferred into her body, and that Joshua is not the biological father,” the court filing states.

“There is only one possible conclusion: Brown Fertility used the wrong sperm.”

During a Thursday press conference announcing the IVF lawsuit, the couple said the discovery that Joshua was not biologically related to their daughter turned what should have been a joyful time with their newborn into heartbreak, First Coast News reported.

Natalie, 36, and Joshua Strong, 53, learned their baby girl was not the biological daughter of Joshua after a routine blood test

Natalie Strong, 36, and Joshua Strong, 53, say a routine blood test revealed that Joshua was not the biological father of their baby girl.

The couple conceived through IVF at Brown Fertility, but learned shortly after birth that their daughter had a blood type that made it biologically impossible for both of them to be the parents

The couple conceived their daughter through IVF at Brown Fertility, but say they learned soon after her birth that her blood type made it biologically impossible for both of them to be her genetic parents.

‘It took away the euphoria of having a baby. I mean, this is going to affect us for the rest of our lives,’ Natalie said.

‘It’s a daily struggle with, you know, the emotional aspect of it ’cause, you know, you do have sadness and anger, and in the same day you also have joy and love,’ Joshua added.

The couple claimed they paid ‘tens of thousands of dollars’ to Brown Fertility to have biological children together, the lawsuit claims.

Joshua previously had a vasectomy, so he had to undergo a painful sperm retrieval for the IVF process, the suit continued.

‘Joshua submitted to invasive surgery to retrieve sperm that, somewhere between the freezer and the petri dish, was substituted with the sperm of a man Brown Fertility cannot identify,’ the filing stated.

According to the lawsuit, the couple was able to create seven embryos, and Natalie miscarried after the first transfer, but was able to carry the second transfer to term and gave birth on June 5, 2025.

Their lawsuit seeks $50,000 in damages and wants the clinic to be required to account for Joshua’s sperm.

‘We want to know what happened to his sperm. We want to make sure it was not used anywhere else,’ Natalie said.

The baby has a B-positive blood type. Natalie’s blood type is O Negative and Joshua’s is A Negative. Additionally testing revealed Natalie is the biologically mother, but Joshua is not the father

The couple’s attorney, Rob Marcereau of the Fertility Law Group, told the Daily Mail they want to hold the clinic accountable and help prevent others from going through what they did.

‘The Strongs filed this lawsuit to get answers and hold Dr. Brown and his clinic accountable for what happened,’ Marcereau said.

‘By sharing their story publicly, they also hope to help prevent another family from going through the same thing.’

The Daily Mail contacted Brown Fertility and Dr Brown for comment.

Los Angeles Dodgers Injuries Threaten Historic World Series Three-Peat Bid

0

For much of the 2026 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have managed their roster like a sturdy ship battling through relentless storms.

Shoulders, elbows, backs, necks, knees, hands, biceps and blisters have all taken their toll. Now, with October nearing, Blake Snell’s groin injury has added another concern.

In what has become something of an annual challenge, the Dodgers have spent much of their historic pursuit trying to stay ahead of the injured list. The latest figures illustrate just how heavily baseball’s powerhouse has been affected.

The Dodgers rank 11th among MLB’s 30 teams in RotoWire’s latest injury severity rankings, carrying a 75-point score. They have 11 players on the 60-day injured list and another six on the 10- or 15-day IL. RotoWire’s formula places greater emphasis on extended absences, assigning five points for each 60-day IL stint and three points for shorter 10- or 15-day placements.

Ironically, this marks the first time all season the Dodgers have dropped out of the top 10. They ranked eighth at the end of August and had remained in the top 10 for much of the year. Their move down to 11th, however, may have arrived at just the right moment.

Los Angeles has already locked up its 14th straight postseason berth and captured the NL West for the 13th time in 14 seasons. Next comes a bid to become the first National League franchise to win three consecutive World Series titles.

That pursuit will unfold with several of the club’s biggest names still working through injuries.

Shohei Ohtani remains on the 15-day IL while dealing with lingering issues in his left knee and right biceps. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman recently told the California Post that Ohtani is “progressing well” and is expected to return before the regular season ends.

All-Star closer Edwin Diaz, who has dealt with multiple injuries this season, was activated Friday after missing time since Aug. 18 because of neck inflammation.

All-Star center fielder Andy Pages is still sidelined with a fractured left hand, though he could be activated during the Dodgers’ final homestand.

Tyler Glasnow is back in the starting rotation, but missed more than three months with lower back spasms before returning in late August. Snell opened the season sidelined by shoulder fatigue and underwent elbow surgery in May and didn’t return until August.

On Wednesday in Cincinnati, he lasted just one inning before left groin tightness forced him from the game. A source told the California Post the decision to remove him from the game was “precautionary,” and Snell himself said he expects to make his next start.

Roki Sasaki has been sidelined since Aug. 27 with a blister on his pitching hand, and Will Smith recently returned after missing nearly three months with neck inflammation.

The Giants and Orioles are the only two teams in RotoWire’s study that have more than 100 points on their severity score due to the amount of players currently on the 60-day IL.

Currently there are 526 roster players currently on injured lists across all 30 teams.

According to Spotrac, the Dodgers have had 26 different players on the IL this season and lead the league in total days players have been on the injured list with 2,194. They trail only the New York Yankees ($91.4 million) with an estimated cash total of $83 million in players salaries on the IL this season.

The Dodgers survived six months of baseball’s version of a demolition derby and still won the West. The question now isn’t whether they were good enough to survive the regular season.

It’s whether enough of them will be healthy enough to survive October and bring home a third straight World Series title.

Labour Chief Survives Confidence Vote After ‘Nonces’ Slur

0

A Labour council leader who described campaigners flying St George’s flags as “criminals” and “nonces” has avoided facing a confidence vote in his leadership.

Jeremy Newmark, the leader of Hertsmere Council in Hertfordshire, will remain at the head of the authority’s Labour-Liberal Democrat coalition after a vote on whether to add the confidence motion to the agenda ended in a deadlock.

The council’s Labour mayor, Parveen Rani, voted against putting forward the proposal, which would have led to a second confidence vote in Mr Newmark in two years. The motion was therefore defeated.

Mr Newmark’s administration has come under mounting pressure in recent months. Among the controversies were allegations that he had referred to Nigerians as “crooks”, claims that were not upheld by a council standards panel.

It also emerged that another Labour councillor suggested the party should “start planning sites where we can’t win seats” and make a “political decision” not to become involved in a major development.

Chris Myers told fellow party members they should avoid proposals for 900 homes in Potters Bar, arguing that Labour had “a fairly good chance of retaining and doubling seats” in the area.

In June, audio leaked to the Daily Mail also appeared to capture Labour councillor Aaditya Kaza saying members had been instructed how to vote on a separate planning application.

The latest attempt to trigger a confidence vote followed a by-election three months ago that wiped out the administration’s majority.

Jeremy Newmark, the Labour leader of Hertsmere Council who called St George’s flag campaigners “nonces”, has avoided another confidence vote in his leadership.

The proposal, tabled by Reform UK councillors, also called for the authority to be run by a “strategic alignment administration” for the remainder of its term.

But a vote to change the agenda failed after 17 members voted in favour and the same number against, necessitating the Labour mayor’s casting vote.

Two Conservative councillors, who both also serve on a district council in Cambridgeshire, were absent from the meeting in Hertsmere.

Paul Hodgson-Jones and Sarah Hodgson-Jones, both members of Huntingdonshire Council, did not attend the Hertsmere meeting.

Mr Hodgson-Jones chaired a meeting of that council’s corporate governance committee on the same evening.

Brett Rosehill, a Reform councillor, called their absence ‘deeply disappointing’.

‘Whatever our political differences, Hertsmere councillors should put Hertsmere residents first.’

Referring to his Reform colleague, Mr Rosehill said: ‘Caroline Clapper and I turned up, made our case and were prepared to vote.

‘Residents can draw their own conclusions about those who chose not to be there.’

He said Mr Newmark’s leadership had been ‘mired in controversy’ and ‘something had to be done’ after his administration lost its majority.

Mr Newmark, who ran in the 2017 general election for the north London parliamentary seat of Finchley and Golders Green, faced calls to quit last year after his comments on the movement known as Operation Raise the Colours.

He accused the group of running ‘an attempt by a bunch of extremists, criminals, nonces to hijack our national flag’.

The remarks came days after an estimated 150,000 supporters of ex-English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson took part in a ‘Unite The Kingdom’ rally in London.

Opposition councillors condemned him for allegedly ‘forfeiting his integrity’ and ‘pushing people apart’.

And in March last year, Mr Newmark claimed a Tory finance spokesman had used an ‘antisemitic trope’ suggesting the Labour leader ‘orchestrates everything in this chamber’.

Abhishek Sachdev made the remark during a speech on the council’s budget for the past year.

The Labour leader said Mr Sachdev’s comments were ‘straight out of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion’, referring to an antisemitic publication which falsely details a Jewish plot for global domination.

Morris Bright, the Tory leader on the council, branded Mr Newmark a ‘disgrace’.

The Labour man later said he had not suggested Mr Sachdev had ‘any harmful intent’ with his words, nor did he accuse him of being an antisemite.

Following the outburst Mr Newmark survived a confidence motion in the same month by a single vote.

Hertsmere Council was contacted for comment.

Denmark Said to Cede Permanent Control of Greenland Security

Denmark has granted the United States permanent control over Greenland’s security, President Donald Trump has claimed.

Securing greater control of the strategically important Arctic territory has been a central goal of Trump’s second term. In a Truth Social post on Friday, he said those efforts had produced an agreement.

Trump said the US had reached a deal with Denmark that gives Washington “permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland,” which he said would address “ALL” of America’s concerns.

“At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland and the United States of America,” Trump wrote. He described the arrangement as an “infinite life” agreement.

The president also claimed that no US adversary would be allowed to establish a base or military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments there, without explicit written approval from Washington.

Trump said the US would “immediately begin” developing a substantial military presence in a suitable area of Greenland, adding that American officials would work with Greenlanders during the development and construction process.

He insisted the expanded US military presence in Greenland would come at no cost to the United States. A senior official told Fox News that the agreement would remain in force even if Greenland were ever to become an independent nation.

“This solution is a great one for the United States of America, Denmark, Greenland, and all of our Allies,” Trump wrote.

‘We look forward to working with the wonderful people of Denmark and Greenland toward a magnificent future with respect to this large, and highly strategic, parcel of land,’ the president continued. ‘We will be very protective of it!’

‘This is a dream come true for the United States of America, one that is very important, historic, and special,’ he concluded.

Under the deal, Denmark and Greenland would no longer have to approve any new US military installations on the island, according to Fox News.

But the deal only allows the US and its allies to make ‘sensitive investments’ on the territory, including telecommunications infrastructure, undersea capabilities, ports and critical minerals.

The deal also falls short of ceding control of the territory to the US.

The announcement comes after months of closed-door negotiations between US, Danish and Greenland officials that focused on allowing American troops to stay on the island indefinitely, cooperation on extracting the island’s rich natural resources like rare earths and oil and the possible re-opening of a Second World War-era US military base on the southern coast.

Trump has framed his push to acquire the island as a national security imperative, citing Greenland’s strategic position in the Arctic and China’s and Russia’s ambitions to expand their presence in the region.

Northern Command boss General Gregory M Guillot has noted how Greenland could host part of an array of radar stations in the Arctic that includes outposts in Alaska and Canada.

He has also said that the US seeks a deepwater port and a base for US special forces on the island.

Trump first floated the idea of bringing Greenland into the US sphere of influence during his first term in 2019.

Since returning to the office, he has repeatedly doubled down on that.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended the president for reaching the agreement.

‘This historic deal is a huge win for the United States and the American people,’ he said in a statement to Fox News.

‘Thanks to President Trump’s vision and leadership, this historic agreement permanently guarantees US security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the US taxpayer,’ Rubio noted. ‘Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversaries from it and the surrounding area.’

‘This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland,’ he added.
