John Mulaney delivered one of the 2026 Emmy Awards’ most talked-about moments after derailing the live broadcast with a piece of crude advice that NBC was forced to censor for viewers at home.

The 44-year-old comic took the stage to present Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, but quickly veered from a joke about advice for men into DJ Khaled’s explicit comments about men pleasing their wives. The remark proved too racy for network censors.

Nicole Kidman generated another viral highlight during the ceremony when host Mariska Hargitay told the Australian star to “zip it” after she interrupted the Law & Order: SVU actress’ monologue.

Taylor Swift, meanwhile, became one of the night’s biggest talking points despite being more than 1,000 miles from the Emmys in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was watching her husband Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mulaney opened his risqué presentation by quipping that handing out the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series trophy was the “best part of the night.”

“This award is for the guys. Just men being men,” he said. “Finally, something for the fellas.”

The former SNL writer went on to joke that men had been “historically unrepresented” on television. He said several nominees — Sterling K. Brown, Gary Oldman, Mark Ruffalo, Rufus Sewell and Noah Wyle — favored “method acting,” while others relied on “regular, less annoying acting.”

Mulaney got in trouble with the censors when he referenced one of DJ Khaled’s most controversial declarations.

‘I believe it was DJ Khaled who said, “Real men don’t go down on their wives,”‘ Mulaney said as the audience erupted in laughter. ‘But these nominees know that is BS!’

He added, ‘They know there’s often less pressure on them if they do that first.’

Mulaney had also brought a prop, a copy of the late Sopranos and Goodfellas actor Frank Vincent’s self-help book A Guy’s Guide to Being a Man’s Man, which he shared some wisdom from.

‘A man’s man can be wearing the best clothes, drinking the finest wine, sitting with the most beautiful woman in Las Vegas, but if he doesn’t treat everyone around him with respect and class, he’s not a real man’s man,’ he read. ‘He’s just a jabroni in a good suit.’

Noah Wyle was caught multiple times laughing and looking embarrassed by Mulaney’s jokes before the comedian revealed he had won the award for his work on The Pitt.

Nicole Kidman caused a scene of her own when she tried to interrupt host Mariska Hargitay’s monologue.

The Law & Order: SVU star told the Aussie actress, 59, to be quiet during a light-hearted moment between the pair at the annual TV awards. 

The scripted moment occurred when, during the Emmys opening monologue, Mariska, 62, performed a parody of Nicole’s iconic advert for US cinema chain AMC. 

She gave a dramatic speech about the power of television, copying the overly serious lines Nicole performed in her famous 2021 promotional video, which was part of a national campaign to get people to attend the cinemas after Covid lockdowns. 

‘Images on the silver screen. Sound that I can feel,’ Mariska said, pretending to get choked up.  

Nicole, who sat in the front row, quickly interrupted, saying: ‘No, Mariska, come on. That’s mine. That’s my bit. You can’t do that.’

‘What? No, no Nicole, I’m not,’ Mariska responded as the crowd erupted into laughter over the bit. 

Mariska then attempted to continue, saying: ‘Somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this.’

But Nicole interrupted again: ‘No, come on. That’s my line. That’s actually my line.’ 

‘Zip it, movie lady, it’s TV’s time tonight!’ Mariska hit back. 

One of the most viral moments of the show ironically came from someone who didn’t even attend.

Hargitay returned in the midst of the broadcast for a pre-taped sketch with the rest of her SVU costars in which they tried to crack a nebulous case with so many scatter-brained connections between stars that she had to bring out a second whiteboard covered in celebrity photos and fuzzy yarn connecting them.

She tried to get Ice-T and the rest of the crew to ‘think like Swifties’ to solve a mystery: ‘Will Taylor Swift be at the Emmys?’

In the midst of the sketch, an unnamed detective spoke up from the back of the room as the video cut to reveal that it was Swift herself dressed as a detective.

Hargitay, a real-life friend of Swift’s, collaborated with the undercover pop star to determine that Swift wouldn’t be at the ceremony because she would be watching her husband Travis Kelce play with the Kansas City Chiefs at the same time.

That turned out to be exactly what happened, and Swift was seen sitting in her box at Arrowhead Stadium with another A-lister, Tom Cruise.

Apple TV horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay was the biggest winner at the Emmy Awards 2026 as it swept the ceremony, with leading man Matthew Rhys making history as the first actor to win two lead acting gongs in different categories in one night.

On the drama side, it was once again The Pitt who was the big winner as the HBO Max series took home top honors Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama for Noah Wyle. They earned the same honors last at last year’s Emmys.

However, it was Widow’s Bay that made the massive first impression on television’s biggest night as it won in all six categories it was nominated in, including the top honor Outstanding Comedy Series.

The comedy horror series beat out: Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, and Shrinking.

Widow’s Bay is set in the fictional New England island town of Widow’s Bay, which happens to be afflicted with a centuries-old curse that brings various supernatural evils upon the island

In addition to Rhys, top acting honors were earned by Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root in the Outstanding Supporting Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series categories, respectively.

However, their costar Rhys was perhaps the biggest winner of the night as he made history by becoming the first actor to earn two leading acting honors in the same night.

He not only earned Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy series for the Apple TV series, but also took home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for The Beast in Me earlier in the evening. 

On the Apple TV series, the talented actor portrays Tom Loftis, mayor of Widow’s Bay, as he is originally from the mainland and is initially skeptical of the local residents’ superstitions about the island’s supposed curse. He is a widower and father to a son, Evan, from his marriage to his deceased wife, Lauren. 

In the psychological thriller mini-series, Rhys portrays Nile Jarvis, who is the son of a real estate magnate who moves next door to the home of Aggie Wiggs [Clare Danes] in Oyster Bay, New York, on Long Island to live in a more secluded manner with his second wife, as he allegedly killed his first wife.  

The Pitt earned the top award of the night, Outstanding Drama Series, on a night where it earned 25 nominations, which was the most from any single series.

It faced stiff competition including: The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Pluribus, Slow Horses, and Your Friends and Neighbors. 

The Pitt is centered around the daily lives of healthcare professionals in a Pittsburgh hospital as they juggle personal crises, workplace politics, and the emotional toll of treating critically ill patients, revealing the resilience required in their noble calling. 

Noah Wyle was the first to be awarded for the highly popular HBO Max series.

The 55-year-old actor earned the win in the coveted Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category as he beat out: Sterling K. Brown for Paradise, Gary Oldman for Slow Horses, Mark Ruffalo for Task, and Rufus Sewell for The Diplomat.

On the series, he portrays Dr. Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch, who is the main protagonist of the show as he deals with trauma and PTSD alongside unresolved post-COVID stress.

Meanwhile, Rhea Seehorn earned one of the biggest wins of television’s biggest night and beat one of the biggest stars in Zendaya to earn the honor. 

The 54-year-old actress triumphed in the Lead Actress in a Drama category at the Emmy Awards 2026 as she was recognized for her work in Pluribus.

Jean Smart earned her fifth Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy win in a row at the Emmy Awards 2026 on a night that featured a star-studded red carpet.

 The 75-year-old talented actress was recognized for her work on Hacks, which just had its fifth and final season. 

Smart – who earned her eighth total Emmy in her 15th total nomination – was obviously emotional as her name was called and she was presented the honor by Zendaya.

Sally Field earned Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her work in Remarkably Bright Creatures. 

The 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards took place at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Monday night. 

Law & Order: SVU executive producer/star Mariska Hargitay served as host of the gala event, which marks the first time a woman has hosted the show in 15 years.

Savannah Guthrie said she was “so touched” after Allison Janney honored her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, during Monday night’s 2026 Emmys.

Speaking to “Today” viewers Tuesday morning, Guthrie reflected on Janney’s gesture. “It was her moment, her triumph,” the co-host said. “For her to sit and just take a moment to think about our family [meant a lot].”

The 54-year-old broadcaster, whose mother was abducted from her Arizona home in February, said she does not let opportunities pass to speak about Nancy and the family’s ongoing search.

“I never let a moment pass if I get one to talk about my mom and how I miss her,” Savannah said, adding that her “whole family” remains “in such pain” seven months after Nancy’s disappearance.

“We need help,” she continued. “Thank you, Allison Janney, for remembering us and giving me an opportunity for me to renew that call. We just want our mom home [to] give her a proper goodbye. That’s all.”

“Our family needs you,” she pleaded.

A 21-year-old Pennsylvania man accused of planning a violent attack in support of ISIS was arrested after FBI agents followed him to a hotel and recovered a semiautomatic rifle, five magazines and 190 rounds of ammunition, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

Jonathan Hunter Kramer of Valencia allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS, offered to circulate explosives manuals online and said he was preparing for a “mission” but needed a weapon before agents intervened, according to a federal criminal complaint.

Kramer faces a charge of receiving a firearm and ammunition while knowing, or having reasonable cause to believe, they would be used to commit a felony or federal terrorism offense. The alleged offenses include providing or attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.

The FBI had known about Kramer since a 2023 investigation, when he was a minor. At that time, he was charged and adjudicated delinquent in Pennsylvania for his role in an alleged mass-casualty attack plot and for possessing child sexual abuse material, the Justice Department said.

Authorities reopened their investigation after receiving an anonymous tip on March 19, shortly after Kramer was released from a juvenile detention facility. The tipster reported that he had been ordering “mysterious” packages and communicating with “his friends from before” his juvenile adjudication.

Investigators said Kramer used the online alias “Hamza Al Rashid,” claimed ties to ISIS and offered to distribute explosives manuals. He allegedly discussed preparing for his “mission” and said he lacked a “weapon.”

On Friday, FBI agents watched Kramer leave his home carrying a bag and take a rideshare to a store, where he purchased a disposable phone, the complaint said.

He then met another individual in the parking lot, retrieved a long black bag from a vehicle’s trunk and traveled to a hotel in Cranberry Township, where he paid cash for a room. Witnesses at both the store and hotel said the bag made a metallic clicking sound when Kramer set it down.

After checking into the hotel, Kramer went to a sporting goods store, where agents observed him at the gun counter.

Agents approached him when he returned to the hotel carrying two bags from the store. Searches of Kramer, his hotel room and his home turned up a semiautomatic rifle, five rifle magazines — two loaded and three capable of holding 30 rounds each — and 190 rounds of rifle ammunition, according to the complaint.

Agents also found a rifle scope and bipod, an entrenchment tool, pepper spray and about 30 knives. A handwritten note read, “DoNt look For me[.] IDK what I did buT I cant live In constant Fear[.]”

Attorney General Todd Blanche said the arrest came as Americans marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

“Their outstanding work thwarted this alleged attack before innocent lives could be lost,” Blanche said.

FBI Director Kash Patel said Kramer had been “plotting a violent attack in support of ISIS,” citing his online activity and acquisition of weapons.

The Justice Department did not identify a specific target for the alleged attack.

Kramer was booked into the Butler County Jail and made his first court appearance Monday. Prosecutors have asked that he be held without bond, arguing that he poses a danger to the community.

Trump supporters attending the GOP midterm convention in Dallas dismissed Democratic calls to impeach War Secretary Pete Hegseth, though the political landscape could look very different after November’s elections.

Republicans currently control the House, leaving Democrats without the votes needed to impeach Hegseth.

That equation could shift in January if Democrats retake the House in the midterm elections. Control of the chamber would allow them to pursue impeachment proceedings against the Trump administration’s top Pentagon official.

Even so, removing Hegseth from office would require support from two-thirds of the Senate.

The prospect comes as recent surveys indicate Democrats are entering the midterms with an advantage.

A CBS News/YouGov poll released Sunday put Democrats ahead of Republicans by 54 percent to 46 percent on the generic congressional ballot. Other national polls have likewise shown Democrats with a lead.

Micki Larson-Olson, an Iraq War veteran who attended the January 6 protest, argued that Democrats lacked the authority to remove Hegseth. Larson-Olson was arrested after defying police orders to leave the Capitol grounds, spent 161 days in jail and was later pardoned by President Donald Trump.

‘The Demonrats can’t do bit, diddley s***. You know why? Because they don’t have the power,’ she said.

‘They can’t impeach s***. You have to have justification. You have to prove that he broke our Constitution or whatever.’

Larson-Olson compared the effort with the impeachment proceedings brought against Trump, adding: ‘Look how many times they tried to impeach President Trump. They’re always putting in impeachment paperwork for President Trump.’

Her comments reflected a broader lack of concern among Trump supporters gathered in Dallas, with several saying the impeachment push would do little to change their view of Hegseth.

Joanne Chen Bryant said she was similarly unconcerned.

‘Democrats want to impeach everybody,’ she said. ‘So, you know, the fact that they want to impeach him doesn’t really hold too much water for me.’

Bryant said she trusted Hegseth because of his military background and the sensitive information available to him as secretary.

‘I know Pete’s background, and I know he’s a highly intelligent person,’ she said. ‘He has access to deeply secret and intelligent information that isn’t open to the regular citizen like me. And I trust him.’

Another attendee, Tracy, dismissed the effort as simply part of the political process.

  ‘Isn’t that what Democrats do, is impeach people? Or try to?’ she said. ‘I’m not concerned about it. Just another legal process to waste time and money on.’

Rusty Ramgopal went further, arguing that Democrats were increasingly defined by their opposition to Trump.

‘I think the Democrats are saying that because they really don’t know what they’re about other than simply opposition to Trump or the Trump administration,’ he said.

‘The only thing that Democrats agree on is that they hate Donald Trump and hate the people around Donald Trump.’

Ramgopal also argued that impeachment had become too partisan.

‘Impeachment is a constitutional process. It’s a legal process, constitutional process, and sadly it’s been cheapened into a partisan political process in the modern day,’ he said.

Democrats introduced six articles of impeachment against Hegseth in April, led by Arizona Representative Yassamin Ansari.

The resolution accuses him of, among other allegations, directing an unauthorized war against Iran, violating the law of armed conflict, mishandling sensitive military information, obstructing congressional oversight and abusing his office.

The articles also accuse Hegseth of conduct that allegedly brought disrepute upon the United States and its armed forces. The resolution was referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

But the effort has done little to unsettle the Trump supporters who gathered in Dallas last week, who largely portrayed the impeachment push as another partisan fight between the Trump administration and its Democratic opponents.

The Emmys celebrate television at its finest, and TV’s biggest night made room to honor Steven Conrad’s DTF St. Louis with a major haul of awards.

Led by Jason Bateman, Linda Cardellini, and David Harbour, HBO’s acclaimed dark comedy-drama centers on an undeniably strange yet engrossing love triangle. A favorite among Team Decider, the series received 13 Emmy nominations and won Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Cinematography, and Outstanding Directing.

Cardellini and Harbour also took home acting trophies for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series. Harbour prevailed over fellow DTF St. Louis cast members Bateman and Richard Jenkins, while Cardellini edged out Joy Sunday, who played Jodie Plumb in the HBO series.

Will There Be a Season 2 of DTF St. Louis on HBO?

DTF St. Louis was conceived as a miniseries, meaning a traditional second season is not currently expected. Still, that does not entirely rule out the possibility of the story continuing in another form. The operative word, for now, is possibility.

The first season brings the story of Clark, Floyd, and Carol to a close. However, during an April interview with GQ, creator Steven Conrad was asked whether he might revisit the eccentric universe of DTF St. Louis. The interviewer said they would gladly watch more of Richard Jenkins and Joy Sunday “talking sex and solving cases.”

“Well, there’s a new instrument now: the White Lotus instrument,” Conrad said when discussing the prospect of another season. “It’s similar themes and a different setting. A DTF anthology would be sex and violence, and if you had to pick two things as a writer to be restricted to, sex and violence are pretty good. There’s extended possibilities and infinite results, so I could do it.”

For the moment, HBO has not announced new episodes of DTF St. Louis. But Conrad’s comments leave the door open for an anthology-style continuation somewhere down the line.
