Patrick Clancy Seen on Hours-Long Walk Days After Mistrial Ruling

0

Patrick Clancy was photographed taking a lengthy walk through New York City, just days after a Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial in the murder case involving his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy.

Clancy, who now lives in the Big Apple, appeared to be taking time to decompress as he moved through the city in casual workout attire, wearing gym shorts and a plain T-shirt.

On Sunday, he kept a low profile during the solo Manhattan outing, finishing the relaxed look with a pair of dark sunglasses.

Clancy had been seen on several occasions during Lindsay Clancy’s trial, including alongside his current wife, though she was not with him during the weekend walk. His sightings came as jurors struggled to reach a verdict.

During the proceedings, he was also observed riding a Citi Bike and visiting potential new apartments, as the high-profile Massachusetts murder trial continued to draw public attention.

Clancy did testify at his ex-wife’s trial but was largely not seen inside the Massachusetts courthouse.

The latest sighting comes just days after Lindsay’s case was declared a mistrial Friday after a lone juror refused to side with the others.

She now faces being retried for the deaths of her three children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months.

Judge William Sullivan announced a mistrial at a court in Plymouth, Massachusetts, shortly before 2.30pm ET Friday after an emergency appeal by Lindsay’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, failed.

She admits killing her children in 2023 but says she did so while overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis.

Prosecutors now face a number of options, including retrying Lindsay on reduced charges or seeking a verdict decided by a judge, rather than by jurors.

The jury panel of nine women and three men spent over 37 hours deliberating the case after five weeks of evidence.

They sent four notes to the judge this week saying they had been unable to reach a verdict. Yesterday it emerged that 11 of the 12 jurors had come to the same verdict, but a twelfth holdout was refusing to follow them.

Reddington filed an appeal claiming this unidentified juror was biased towards people with mental disabilities.

The final note sent by jurors on Friday morning read: ‘It is with a heavy heart that we are unable to come to a unanimous decision and will not be able to.’

Friday’s Hail Mary motion was put before Associate Justice Dalila Argaez Wendlandt around 2pm ET. The brief hearing took place over Zoom, with Wendlandt issuing her ruling rejecting the appeal shortly afterward.

The panel could not agree on whether Lindsay, 36, was guilty of murder, manslaughter, or not criminally responsible for her actions by Friday morning.

During the sensational five weeks of testimony, prosecutors argued the killings were intentional and well-planned, not the work of someone who had lost control.

True crime fans have also floated wild conspiracies that Patrick Clancy is the true murderer and that Lindsay was framed. Clancy has not faced any charges for the death of his children.

After the trial was declared a mistrial, Clancy released a statement through his attorney, expressing gratitude toward those involved.

‘Patrick Clancy is grateful to the Court and to the jurors for their hard work, their commitment, and their perseverance,’ his lawyer David Meier said.

‘The loss of Patrick’s children is something from which he will never recover and from which there will never be closure.

‘The prospect of reliving this tragedy through another trial is extraordinarily painful for Patrick, for his family, and for all of us.’

The Daily Mail previously revealed that Patrick has relocated to a Midtown Manhattan high-rise with his new wife, who is a fertility specialist and doctor.

Public records show Patrick moved from suburban Massachusetts to Manhattan in May 2023, four months after the deaths of his children.

North Korea-Russia Road Bridge Opens as Putin, Kim Deepen Ties

0

North Korea and Russia inaugurated their first road bridge on Monday, according to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency, opening a new crossing over the Tumen River that both governments described as a significant step in their deepening strategic partnership.

The new bridge stands close to the existing “Friendship Bridge,” a rail crossing that was put into service in 1959 in the years after the Korean War.

Moscow and Pyongyang are already connected by direct air and rail routes.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the road bridge is expected to support broader cooperation between the two countries, including in tourism, while also helping generate new jobs.

“I am convinced that the expansion of cross-border transport infrastructure will provide a powerful impetus for the further development of trade, economic, scientific, technological and cultural cooperation,” Mishustin said during the opening ceremony, which he addressed by video link, TASS reported.

Construction of the new bridge, which had been under discussion for years, began in April last year after its construction was agreed during a visit by President Vladimir Putin to North Korea in 2024.

The two countries’ ties have grown stronger since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022 with Pyongyang sending thousands of troops to Russia’s Kursk region to help repel a 2024 Ukrainian incursion there.

Biden-Appointed Judge Releases Alleged MS-13 Member Wanted in El Salvador Murder Case

0

A federal judge in California, appointed by former President Joe Biden, has directed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to release David Antonio Aviles-Perez, whom federal officials identify as an MS-13 gang member wanted in El Salvador in connection with an aggravated murder case. President Donald Trump designated MS-13 a foreign terrorist organization in 2025.

Aviles-Perez, described by authorities as an illegal alien with a lengthy criminal record in the United States, was released from ICE custody on Wednesday following an order from U.S. District Judge Jinsook Ohta.

The Department of Homeland Security says Aviles-Perez is the subject of an international warrant out of El Salvador for aggravated murder. Federal officials also cite prior arrests in California involving assault with a deadly weapon, controlled substance possession, and petty theft.

ICE took Aviles-Perez into custody in March after he had been released from local custody following an arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. At the time, DHS sharply criticized California’s sanctuary policies, arguing they had allowed a dangerous criminal alien to return to the community. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said then, “ICE arrested this dangerous criminal illegal alien and MS-13 gang member wanted in El Salvador for murder. Gavin Newsom’s sanctuary policies allowed this gang member to be released from jail after his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and petty theft. Releasing this gang member back into California neighborhoods put American lives at risk.”

DHS officials say Aviles-Perez entered the United States unlawfully at an unknown time and place. Before the judge’s order, he had been held by ICE while awaiting removal and potential extradition to El Salvador, where authorities are seeking him on the outstanding murder warrant.

The details of the murder Aviles-Perez was convicted of in El Salvador were outlined in a report by the New York Post. According to the Post, the international warrant for his arrest stems from a conviction for a 2014 murder Aviles-Perez committed in his home country.

In December, authorities in El Salvador sentenced the violent gang member to a term of 20 years in prison for the murder of an enemy with the help of an accomplice. According to the Post’s report, Aviles-Perez, also known as “la bruja” or “the witch,” and his associates shot and killed the victim during a dispute.

According to a police report obtained by the Post, law enforcement authorities in Monterey, California arrested Aviles-Perez after he allegedly attacked a homeless man by swinging a machete at the victim.

Judge Ohta was appointed to the federal bench as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of California by President Biden in 2021. She was lauded as being the first Asian Pacific American female judge on the District Court. In her Wednesday ruling, Ohta instructed ICE to release Aviles-Perez, despite the international murder warrant, unless federal authorities prove he poses a danger to the community or is a flight risk. At the time of his last criminal arrest in California, Aviles-Perez was listed as being in a “transient” status.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin expressed his outrage at Ohta’s ruling, saying, “This radical activist judge has put American lives at risk by releasing a wanted murderer. This is now the SECOND time this dangerous illegal has been released back onto the streets in California. Because sanctuary politicians want to play politics from the bench, innocent Americans are in danger. DHS and ICE will not be deterred by these partisan games. If California’s leaders won’t protect Americans, DHS will.”

Wife of British Racing Driver Stunned He Survived Fireball Crash

The wife of British racing driver Ollie Millroy has said she can scarcely believe he survived after his Ferrari erupted in flames — and has credited a rival driver’s split-second bravery with keeping him alive.

Millroy, 36, was competing in a China GT race at the Shanghai International Circuit when two cars collided with his Ferrari as he negotiated a bend.

Footage from the crash shows his car spinning violently off the circuit before it is engulfed by fierce flames, with thick black smoke rising over the wreckage.

Dutch competitor Loek Hartog can then be seen stopping beside the burning car, rapidly releasing his seat belt and leaping out to help — a decision that ended his own hopes of victory.

Millroy’s wife, Fern, who is now at his bedside in a Shanghai hospital, shared an update this morning on his injuries and surgery, saying Hartog’s actions saved her husband’s life.

‘Surgery went well yesterday,’ Fern wrote. ‘It took several hours, main work being his right hand. He now has metal along the entirety of his clavicle right side, metal inside his right hand, six broken ribs supported with a compression wrap and on high flow oxygen whilst his lung recovers.

‘Tried to come off the oxygen but his O2 level was just too low. He is in great care at this fantastic hospital in Shanghai and we can’t thank the staff here enough. More X Rays and CT tomorrow morning.

‘I still can’t believe he’s alive, purely down to our real life superhero @loekhartog_.’

Ollie and Fern married in October 2021 and have three young children.

Through a camera near the driver’s seat of Hartog’s car, the 23-year-old can be seen desperately rummaging through the Ferrari’s remains in a bid to free Millroy, who had become trapped in the fireball.

Hartog today wrote: ‘Overwhelmed by the support from everyone over the past two days. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of a racing community that looks after each other the way this one does.

‘Thank you for all the messages and support sent to Ollie, his wife and family, and also to me and my family. It really means a lot. I’m travelling back home now and honestly can’t wait to be there. I’m feeling good for now, but there have naturally been a lot of thoughts running through my head over the past few days.

‘Most importantly, I want to make sure those thoughts and everything we’ve experienced are directed towards something constructive. In Ollie’s words: making sure that no two people ever have to go through the same thing again in the future.’

From hospital, Millroy thanked the Dutchman for ‘saving his life’.

He wrote: ‘I am still alive tonight, entirely thanks to one man. Loek Hartog stopped instantly with no flag marshals or fire crews in sight, and risked his own life to get me out of the car.

‘I don’t remember anything between 30 seconds before the crash and 1 hour after it, but I will remember his incredible act of bravery for the rest of my life.

‘One day I will tell our three kids this story and Loek will be the biggest superhero in history in their eyes too.

‘I’m laying here tonight with 5 broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken hand and finger and a bruised lung, but it could have been much worse.

‘Thank you Loek. I owe you my life for your selfless act today.’

Hartog, meanwhile, posted on his own social media: ‘When I saw a car turning into a huge fireball far ahead, there wasn’t really a decision to make.

‘From what I had seen, I genuinely believed the driver might not be able to get out by himself. I stopped, got out and went towards the car. There was never a moment of doubt.

‘It was scary. There were moments where I didn’t know I would actually be able to get Ollie out. But this isn’t about what I did, and I’m sure many people in the same position would have reacted exactly the same way.’

Lululemon Founder Files for Divorce From Wife After 20 Years Without Prenup

0

Lululemon founder Chip Wilson has filed for divorce from his wife of two decades, setting up a closely watched split involving one of the most recognizable names in athletic apparel — and, reportedly, no prenuptial agreement.

Wilson, 71, is seeking to end his marriage to Shannon “Summer” Wilson, 52, who has also been his business partner. The move comes years after he stepped away from the company following backlash over a series of controversial remarks about Lululemon customers.

The American-born entrepreneur, who was raised in Canada and continues to live there, filed a family legal proceeding in the Supreme Court of British Columbia in April, Bloomberg reported.

The specific reasons behind the couple’s breakup after 20 years of marriage have not been made clear. However, people familiar with the situation told the outlet that the Wilsons had discussed their separation with friends.

Those sources also said the couple never signed a prenuptial agreement, leaving questions over how their assets may ultimately be divided, according to Bloomberg.

Wilson stepped away from the athleisure-wear company over a decade ago along with his wife, who worked as Lululemon’s founding lead designer and one of the first employees.

The founder got into some hot water after publicly condemning the ‘whole diversity and inclusion thing,’ which he described as a detriment to the brand following his departure.

Wilson made controversial comments in 2013 on the bodies and weight of some of his customers, who he said caused him to recall pants in the store over sheerness that revealed women’s rear ends.

‘Quite frankly, some women’s bodies just actually don’t work for [the pants],’ he told Bloomberg in 2013.

‘It’s more really about the rubbing through the thighs, how much pressure is there over a period of time, how much they use it.’

The company was forced to pull nearly 17 percent of its popular black Luon pants and offered full refunds or exchanges after customers complained that they were see-through.

Stock for Lululemon dropped by 17 percent after grossing nearly $1.4 billion in sales the year prior, ABC News reported at the time.

Although Wilson later apologized for the comments, he departed the company not long after.

Wilson would later tell Forbes in 2024 that the company’s decision to advertise ‘unhealthy’ and ‘sickly’ people was drawing in the wrong clientele.

The founder accused the company of ‘trying to become like Gap’ by appealing to the masses, or becoming ‘everything to everybody.’

‘I think the definition of a brand is that you’re not everything to everybody,’ he told the outlet. ‘You’ve got to be clear that you don’t want certain customers coming in.’

Exact circumstances surrounding the couple's split after 20 years of marriage remains unclear, however sources familiar with the matter told the outlet that the pair spoke of their separation with friends

Lululemon said in a statement to TODAY at the time that Wilson ‘does not speak for lululemon, and his comments do not reflect our company views or beliefs.’

‘Chip has not been involved with the company since his resignation from the board in 2015 and we are a very different company today.

‘Lululemon is committed to creating and fostering an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment throughout our organization and across our communities. We have made considerable progress since launching our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Action (IDEA) function, and we are proud of the goals we have achieved.

‘We also recognize that becoming a more diverse and inclusive organization takes time and is only possible through the sustained efforts of our leaders and our people. We remain steadfast in our commitment to become a more inclusive and diverse company.’

His wife also holds around a one percent stake in the company, valued at roughly $100 million, according to the outlet.

Lululemon has shares sitting at their lowest in eight years, with stock that fell by 17 percent last week.

Former Nike Inc executive Heidi O’Neill is set to come in as chief executive on Tuesday, the outlet reported.

California Woman Charged With Murder After Allegedly Running Over Friend

A California woman is facing a murder charge after authorities say she fatally struck a friend with her SUV inside their apartment complex.

Anila Baby, 32, has been charged with one count of murder in the August 28 death of 35-year-old Anjana Hari, according to a Santa Clara County criminal complaint obtained by the San Francisco Gate.

Prosecutors allege in the complaint that Baby killed Hari with “malice aforethought.” The filing also cites aggravating factors, claiming the death involved “great violence, use of a weapon and planning.”

Milpitas police said officers were called to the Mill Creek Apartments in Milpitas shortly after noon on August 28, where they found a woman later identified as Hari with “severe head trauma and bleeding.”

Hari was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mercury News.

One witness then told police that Hari ‘appeared to be smiling and seemed to be friendly with the driver,’ while another reported that the victim and driver were ‘good friends,’ ABC 7 reports.

A third witness told officers he saw the SUV stopped in the apartment complex, where both Baby and Hari lived, and when Hari moved in front of the vehicle it ‘suddenly accelerated.’

Court records indicate the vehicle then continued forward, hitting three parked cars before fleeing the complex.

A traffic officer who reviewed the scene also reported finding no tire marks indicating Baby attempted to brake.

Anjana Hari, 35, was allegedly run down by her friend Anila Baby, 32, at their apartment complex in Milpitas, California

Meanwhile, cops in responding patrol cars reported seeing a blue Toyota SUV driving recklessly and pulling into a nearby Walgreens parking lot.

When officers then approached the vehicle, they noticed it had ‘heavy’ front end damage and Baby was still inside.

She appeared ‘incoherent,’ was unable to answer officers’ questions and had ‘visible injuries and blood on her arms and legs.’

A motive for the alleged hit-and-run remains unclear.

But the New Indian Express reports that the crash came moments after Baby allegedly stabbed her roommate Ann Mathew.

She then allegedly called Anjana downstairs before ramming her car into her.

All three women are from Kerala, India, with Anjana moving to the US in 2021.

She is now survived by her husband, Vijeesh, and their six-year-old daughter, with friends now raising money to help the family cover funeral costs and living expenses.

In the meantime, Union Minister Suresh Gopi said all steps would be taken to bring the women’s remains back to Kerala.

He said he spoke to the Consul General at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, and was informed that the funeral homes handling the remains had been directed to complete the documentation required to send the bodies back to India.

But Gopi also said the timing of the repatriation was yet to be confirmed, as US authorities may retain the bodies for further investigation.

Baby is now due back in court for an arraignment on September 10.

Miami Firefighters Climb Into Amazon Cargo Jet Amid Fire Scare

0

Miami firefighters were seen climbing into the cockpit of an Amazon cargo jet after it crashed and left five people dead — just moments after emergency radio traffic captured crews urgently warning dispatchers, “The plane is on fire,” as they rushed toward the wreckage.

The Boeing 767 jumbo freighter had departed Puerto Rico shortly before 11:45 a.m. local time Sunday before it overshot the runway at Miami International Airport, hit several cars and finally came to a stop. Five people were killed in the crash.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded immediately, with the first units reaching the scene within 30 seconds of the emergency call, officials said.

“The plane is on fire!” one firefighter told dispatchers in Broadcastify audio first obtained by the Miami Herald.

“The plane is on fire. Put your game face on guys.”

Video, which has since surfaced online, showed the jet skidding, with bright orange flames shooting from its right engine before coming to a stop.

Firefighters propped a ladder up against one of the cockpit’s windows – and one was seen making their way into the plane, video obtained by Reuters shows.

The pilot and co-pilot, who have not been identified, were trapped inside, Ray Jadallah, the Miami-Dade fire chief said.

At least two people were trapped in cars that the 32-year-old plane, which was converted into a freighter in 2015, had struck.

Three of the five people injured were in a critical condition, Jadallah said. The victims are yet to be identified.

The plane’s tail was tilting up into the air and fire crews swarmed the back of the scorched jet.

Some 60 MDFR units of 200 firefighters raced to the scene.

Foam was used to put out the flames and crews had to deal with a fuel leak.

The jet’s left engine was still running, which made it dangerous for rescuers to enter the jet amid the risk of toxic gases or explosion.

Pilots couldn’t turn the engine off because they needed to ”energize” the plane. Power may have been needed for communication systems or to unlock doors for example.

Prime Air Flight 7598, which was operated by 21Air, landed in Miami just before 2 p.m. Sunday and was traveling at 129mph when it overshot the airport’s runway 30, which is 9,000 feet long.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated – but it has since emerged that the runways at Miami airport were not fitted with what is known as an Engineered Materials Arresting System.

The EMAS, which is designed for aircraft weighing more than 12,500 pounds, is a type of crushable concrete that helps bring planes which overshoot the runway to a stop.

It’s not mandatory for airports to install an EMAS – despite being recommended by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Miami airport officials were not required to install the system because it has a runway safety area, WPLG reported in February.

Key West, Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Fort Lauderdale are just some of the Floridian airports that have EMAS installed.

The crash sparked widespread disruption, with more than 160 flights canceled and around 325 delayed.

Scores of travelers were trying to catch flights for the Labor Day weekend.

“This airport is packed,” Lisa Walker, who lives in Hurley, Mississippi, told the Times.

“Some people are being told it will be Tuesday before they can even get a flight.”

Witnesses who live near Miami airport recalled how an unfamiliar acrid stench had filled the air.

“It didn’t smell like when the Everglades are burning,” Beth Tilman, 64, said.

“It wasn’t trees burning. It wasn’t mangroves burning. It was some other odor that I, honestly, had never smelled before.”

Sunday’s plane crash came 29 years after a Fine Air Flight 101, which was bound for Las Américas International Airport in the Dominican Republic, crashed almost immediately after takeoff at Miami airport, killing five.

Ex-USCIS Official Charged in $960K Citizenship Bribery Plot

0

In a separate case, a former senior official with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and an alleged accomplice are facing federal charges tied to a suspected bribery scheme. Prosecutors say the men accepted nearly $960,000 in exchange for helping with immigration benefit applications, including cases involving U.S. citizenship.

The former official, Lukman Owolabi Ganiyu, and his alleged financial accomplice, Adeniyi Akeem Somoye, were arrested on federal charges over what prosecutors described as a yearslong scheme to collect illegal gratuities. In return, they allegedly manipulated and expedited immigration applications, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.

Both men were charged with conspiracy to receive illegal gratuities by a public official and were taken into custody Wednesday.

Investigators said they uncovered extensive WhatsApp communications linking Ganiyu, Somoye and multiple applicants whose immigration matters they allegedly handled, including thousands of messages and hundreds of calls.

Between December 2019 and March 2026, the duo allegedly bypassed standard procedures by pushing applicants who paid bribes directly to Ganiyu, skipping key steps in the immigration process such as criminal background checks, interviews, standard USCIS processing protocols and other reviews, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors allege Ganiyu altered the USCIS system to fast-track applications in exchange for money, prosecutors said.

He allegedly fast-tracked citizenship for Somoye before he approved residency applications for Somoye’s wife and child.

Ganiyu allegedly rerouted applications from USCIS field offices in Minneapolis, Charlotte and Houston, bypassing local supervisors so he could approve them himself.

Ganiyu received about $671,438 from citizenship applicants through Zelle and Cash App, along with $287,830 in cash deposits that prosecutors say were meant to conceal the money’s source, according to court documents, the New York Post reported.

Acting as the alleged financial intermediary, Somoye processed roughly $1.7 million in transfers involving applicants, including through bank accounts, Zelle and Cash App, allegedly keeping a portion of the payments. He also deposited $449,010 in cash, court documents show, according to the ew York Post.

The complaint alleges that Ganiyu and Somoye often exchanged money “back and forth” with applicants.

Most of the citizenship applications they handled involved applicants from African countries, according to prosecutors.

According to prosecutors, Ganiyu resigned from USCIS in March, citing “personal reasons,” several months before his arrest.

“Selling immigration benefits for cash is a blatant abuse of public trust,” U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould said in a statement. “When a federal official puts a price tag on lawful status, we will intervene immediately.”

French Mother Who Said No to Migrants Sparks National Debate

0

A French mother has spoken of her fear at remaining in her Channel coast home amid the small-boat crisis, sharing CCTV footage that appears to show groups of migrants in life jackets streaming past the property on their way to dinghies headed for Britain.

Héloïse Longuet, 44, a mother of two, said her family’s 19th-century farmhouse near Neufchâtel-Hardelot, south of Boulogne-sur-Mer, has gone from a peaceful holiday retreat to a property surrounded by young men staying in illegal squats.

She said the area, once a quiet stretch of northern France, has become a staging point for people trying to cross the Channel, with criminal gangs allegedly charging around £1,000 per person for a space on overcrowded inflatable boats bound for England.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ms Longuet said: “The house is a holiday home which we were renovating, but it became surrounded by men trying to get to the beach.

“They congregate outside checking their phones for coordinates supplied by the smugglers, and then they try to get to the beach.

‘In fact, there is no direct access to the beach across my land, but that did not stop at least three incursions.’

Ms Longuet said she has had to put up CCTV video cameras with warning signs, but makeshift camps have started to appear in the woods around the house.

Now the migrants make her fearful about staying in the area, especially as she has two young daughters, and protection from local police is minimal.

Héloïse Longuet said her 19th-century family farmhouse on the English Channel coast south of Boulogne-sur-Mer, was now surrounded by young men living in illegal squats

Héloïse Longuet said her 19th-century family farmhouse on the English Channel coast south of Boulogne-sur-Mer, was now surrounded by young men living in illegal squats

The problems have been likened to those experienced in Britain in areas where mainly male asylum seekers are housed.

‘It is very frightening,’ she said. ‘We see them in the forest, living in very unsanitary conditions. They leave all their rubbish behind.’

Ms Longuet often walked her dog, Maurice, on Hardelot beach, but was dismayed to see it increasingly being used by the smugglers.

They switched their departure points from Calais and Dunkirk to a more isolated area which is harder to patrol.

Its wide shoreline allows them to board men, women and children on to dinghies, with the migrants hiding in sand dunes beforehand.

Last month a man in his 30s died after a small boat capsized off the beach in a catastrophe which also saw six others, including a toddler, sustained injuries.

And in May two women died from cardiac arrest after being suffocated on a boat carrying upwards of 80 people that had set off from Hardelot beach.

Fights regularly break out between migrants and gendarmes and riot police, who use tear gas to try to restore order.

Tensions reached boiling point during the summer heatwaves when a series of fires broke out around Hardelot.

‘The situation is appalling, and the dangers are immense, but very little is done about it,’ said Ms Longuet.

‘I do not have Right-wing views, I just want to see the situation improved for everybody, including local residents.’

Ms Longuet met a number of migrants while working as an estate agent, and had an enormous amount of sympathy for them – but not the smugglers who were exploiting them.

She said: ‘Some Afghans were looking for a home after settling in France, and they told me that there had been up to a dozen of them when they set off from their home country.

‘By the time they got to France, only two or three were left, with the others dying on the road. This shows how perilous the situation is.

‘As a mother, I wouldn’t like to imagine the horrors they go through. I pity them.

‘The problem is bigger than domestic politics – it is a global problem which starts in the country which the migrants set off from.

‘In France, the biggest problem is the people smugglers – to them it is a business, and all they are interested in is the money.’

Ms Longuet, who now works in public relations, is permanently based in another part of northern France with her family, and visits to Hardelot beach are becoming a lot less frequent.

Paulette Juilien-Peuvion, mayor of Neufchâtel-Hardelot, said there could be as many as 600 migrants congregating in the town at any one time.

Many residents were complaining about being scared to go out at night, especially in wooded areas.

Ms Juilien-Peuvion said: ‘Some say that, ultimately, these people left everything behind for an adventure – it’s a tragedy. And others say, ‘We feel unsafe’.’

Hardelot beach is on a stretch of coastline that includes Le Touquet, where French president Emmanuel Macron himself owns a holiday home.

He bought it in the past two years with his wife, Brigitte Macron, after she sold another property in the seaside town that had been in her family for generations.

Gangs of migrants from all over the world are often seen congregating by railway stations, in commercial centres, and in open countryside.

In turn, French law and order authorities insist that the migrant situation in the area is improving thanks to more robust policing.

Officers have prevented ‘185 small boat crossings’ in the four months since a new Anglo-French agreement was signed in April, pledging some £660million of UK taxpayers’ money to the French, according to an Interior Ministry source in Paris.

Police say they have arrested an increased number of smugglers, and confiscated boats, engines and lifejackets, while deploying a dedicated 50-member riot squad.

Some 15,897 migrants have crossed the Channel so far this year, down 43 per cent on the same time last year, and an 18 per cent drop from the same point in 2024.

This is despite a record 230 people making the journey from France to England in a single boat last month.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said: ‘Our new UK-France deal is already having a real impact, stopping crossings before they happen and disrupting the criminal gangs behind them.

‘People smugglers should be in no doubt, we’re taking down their operations, seizing their equipment and breaking their business model for good.

‘Through our joint work with France, we have stopped over 47,000 small boat crossing attempts since the election and we will not let up.’

Girl Told to Remove Face Mask by Podiatrist During Foot Appointment

0

A podiatrist described as “aggressive” and “disrespectful” has been struck off after giving a teenage patient “inappropriate” diet advice and telling her to remove her face mask during an appointment for verrucae.

Gary Denby told the 13-year-old: “Take your mask off and answer my question or I won’t be able to treat you,” before later emailing her mother to say the girl needed to eat her “five-a-day”.

A tribunal heard that during the July 28, 2021 consultation, Denby attempted to “impose his own view” on face coverings and “bombarded” the child with questions about human physiology.

Denby, a former Ukip councillor, had run Foot Wise Podiatry in Woodford Halse, Northamptonshire, for more than two decades.

He has now been removed from the profession after the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS) found he had “created an obvious risk of harm” to the “nervous” patient and her mother.

Two days after the consultation, the girl’s mother accused Mr Denby of having an ‘unusually aggressive and disrespectful attitude’ towards her daughter in a complaint to the professional body.

She alleged: ‘He did not give any attention to her feet choosing to bombard her with questions and berating her.’

The misconduct panel heard that when the girl’s mother answered a question on her daughter’s behalf, Mr Denby said to the patient: ‘You said that without opening your mouth!’

He is also alleged to have said: ‘Take your mask off and answer my question or I won’t be able to treat you.’

However, the podiatrist suggested he had been subjected to an ‘unjust or malicious’ accusation.

Mr Denby, who described the hearing as a ‘complete waste of my time’, said the patient should remove her face mask, while not wearing one himself, against health guidance at the time of the appointment, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The tribunal ruled that he was ‘seeking to impose his own view over what must have been obvious to him was the wish of the child to keep it in place’, adding that his failure to wear a mask created an ‘obvious risk of harm’ to the mother and daughter.

The mother also alleged that Mr Denby offered the girl ‘inappropriate’ dietary advice, which the tribunal described as ‘unnecessary and erroneous’, despite the appointment being made to treat the patient’s verrucae.

The podiatrist wrote in his notes from the appointment: ‘Too nervous to treat or answer questions, which might gain buy-in to an improved diet and an immune response.

‘Would not remove mask (hiding?), became tearful. White coat fear? Would not answer with own knowledge, mother intervening (red blood cells…).

‘Unable to gain informed consent. Too nervous to treat with cryotherapy. Mother removed daughter from surgery.’

He added: ‘I advised mother that we need an improved diet to gain a better immune ability, then we may try some different treatments to encourage a specific immune response against the warts.

‘May return when more composed? NEEDS to improve diet (25% fruit & green vegetables for immunity; 25% dairy for height, bone density and growth; 25% animal protein for muscle development) and then warts may resolve? You are what you eat.’

In an email to the teenager’s mother, he said: ‘From the report, you provided the most likely key to the warts’ persistence: a poor diet. My concern for (Service User A) that she may also be limiting her dairy-calcium intake, which is VERY necessary at her age for normal height and bone density development.

‘We did not get this far, before (Service User A) became tearful, from my simple and purposeful questioning.

‘An approach you may try with regards providing (Service User A) with a more diverse diet (five-a-day fruit and veg is difficult for the best of us!), is to mix favourite with new.

‘Eg: Tomatoes and courgettes; mint and potatoes; grated cheese and cucumber… As teenagers develop, so do their taste buds (less sweet) and their appreciation of texture.

‘Their brains need direction and encouragement to be experimental, to find this out for themselves.’

According to the tribunal, the podiatrist’s conduct was ‘sufficiently serious for a finding that the misconduct threshold had been crossed’.

Mr Denby wrote an email to the mother the next day after the appointment apologising for causing any distress from his behaviour.

However in a separate email – believed to have been sent to the HCPTS – just days before the hearing took place, he referred to her as an ‘impatient mother’.

It was subsequently found that he had ‘not developed the degree of understanding that would be needed for there to be confidence that he would not repeat behaviour of the type that has been found against him’, according to tribunal documents.

However, in an email to the HCPTS before the tribunal, Mr Denby described the hearing as a ‘complete waste of my time’ as he had retired and does not intend to return to work.

He wrote: ‘A review is a complete waste of my time and of HCPC resources. I retired seven months ago.

‘My case back in February 2026 was a similar waste. No one with decision-making powers ever reads my file – they keep on with the same old accusations, without taking account of my detailed explanations.

‘My file just keeps growing into hundreds of pages, which no-one has time to read. It’s all from so long ago, no-one remembers the situation in any detailed accuracy.’

Mr Denby also accused the body of ‘failing repeatedly in its obligation to protect the patient from harmful practice and the registered practitioner from unjust or malicious accusation’.

The HCPTS has now ruled that it is ‘proportionate’ for Mr Denby to be struck off.
