Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis Found Guilty of First-Degree Murder in Tupac Shakur’s 1996 Killing

0

A Nevada jury on Monday convicted Duane “Keffe D” Davis of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, marking a major development in the 1996 drive-by killing of hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur.

Davis, 63, now faces the possibility of life behind bars, becoming the first person ever found guilty in the long-unsolved Tupac Shakur murder case, The Associated Press reported.

The verdict came after jurors spent roughly three hours weighing the case following closing arguments in a trial that drew widespread attention from music fans and true-crime observers alike.

Inside the courtroom, the emotional weight of the moment was clear: Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, broke down in tears as the decision was announced, while Davis’ son shielded his face with one hand.

In closing arguments, Prosecutor Binu Palal said Davis obtained a gun and “went hunting” for Shakur and Marion “Suge” Knight after they attacked Davis’ nephew, according to The Associated Press.

He said Davis consistently placed himself inside the Cadillac used in the shooting.

Meanwhile, defense attorney Michael Sanft argued that no evidence beyond Davis’ statements placed him in Las Vegas or inside the car.

The 16-member panel, including four alternates, heard nine days of testimony from 24 prosecution witnesses and three defense witnesses.

Davis was ordered held without bail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for Oct. 13.

Trinity Rodman Cheers On Ben Shelton in Gritty US Open Win

0

Trinity Rodman brought some winning energy to Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday, watching boyfriend Ben Shelton open his U.S. Open campaign with a four-set victory over Tallon Griekspoor.

The U.S. women’s national team forward arrived in New York fresh off her own success, having helped the Washington Spirit defeat Bay FC in NWSL action the day before.

Rodman, wearing a multi-colored shirt, was seen celebrating from Shelton’s player box throughout the match. At one point during the evening, she flashed a peace sign and posed for a photo while taking in the first-round win.

The couple went public with their relationship in March 2025, and they’ve become the darling couple of the sports world.

During an appearance on ESPN over the weekend, Rodman showed off her nails that featured a tennis ball, net and Shelton’s initials, “BS.”

“I’m definitely going to be able to go to his first match and we’ll go from there, because I kind of don’t know [if I can attend] until a day or two before,” she told the Worldwide Leader. “I’ll be at the first match and then we’ll see.”

Shelton took down Griekspoor 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7), 6-2 to move on to the second round and will face Hubert Hurkacz.

The former Florida Gator had to rebound after an ugly first set before turning things around in the second set.

“Obviously a lot of credit to Tallon, he’s a difficult player to play,” Shelton said following the match. “He doesn’t give you a lot of rhythm. He has an attacking game style and I found things really difficult for the first set tonight.”

Shelton later added: “I found my rhythm at some point through the second set.”

Naomi Osaka Stuns US Open Crowd With Allen Iverson Tribute

0

Naomi Osaka brought a dose of basketball nostalgia to the US Open on Monday night, paying tribute to NBA icon Allen Iverson — famously known as “The Answer” — with a striking entrance look in New York.

Ahead of her first-round match against unseeded Russian Anastasia Zakharova, Osaka stepped onto Arthur Ashe Stadium’s center court wearing Iverson-inspired arm sleeves and a headband. The four-time Grand Slam champion completed the bold outfit with a floor-length wide-tulle skirt and a sleeveless hoodie, blending tennis fashion with unmistakable basketball influence.

Adding another personal touch, Osaka’s grey sweatshirt featured a distressed, burnout design with newspaper-style clippings highlighting moments from her own career sewn into the fabric.

The ensemble formed part of Nike’s broader push to merge tennis and basketball culture at this year’s US Open. Earlier Monday, Aryna Sabalenka leaned into the same theme, wearing a mesh jersey during her first-round victory over Camila Osorio.

For Osaka, the Allen Iverson tribute carried clear personal meaning. She has long admired the former Philadelphia 76ers point guard, crediting him as a cultural trailblazer whose influence stretched far beyond the basketball court.

‘For me, he’s a trailblazer,’ Osaka said earlier in the week, while donning a t-shirt featuring an old issue of SLAM magazine with Iverson on the cover. ‘I think he’s also someone that I look up to a lot, because he’s done a lot in fashion. Whether it’s on purpose or not, he’s shifted the way that NBA players dress. I also think the whole conversation around clothes in sports, and also just expressing yourself through style, I feel like he’s someone that I look up to in that regard.’

Osaka said she has never met the basketball Hall of Famer, but said ‘hopefully he’ll see this,’ suggesting a future meeting could be arranged.

Designers Téla D’Amore and Ev Bravado were happy to use the 51-year-old point guard as inspiration.

‘The look references Allen Iverson, more specifically, his gray sweats and the nonconformist cadence with which he moved through the world as an athlete,’ they told Vogue. ‘Naomi and Law sent two images our way of Iverson wearing a headband—head only—and from there, we had roughly 30 hours to figure out the rest.’

The 28-year-old made a fashionable start to her tournament before the action began, with a number of staged photoshoots inside the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Locations included the media room, the player garden, and Arthur Ashe Stadium itself, with Osaka sporting a variety of different looks shared daily in the build-up to the start of the event’s main draw.

Osaka even enlisted Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach to assist with the creation of one of the outfits, posing up a storm in an archival Spring/Summer 2003 Dolce & Gabbana dress among the desks and monitors in the press workroom.

On-court however, her outfits have been even more creative.

The four-time Grand Slam champion kicked off this season’s majors series at the Australian Open, where she sported an outfit some fans perceived as a ‘jellyfish-inspired’ look.

Osaka arrived at the Rod Laver Arena with a wide-brimmed hat with a white veil and parasol before warming up in a frilled jacket and dress that looked like tentacles.

In June at the French Open, Osaka was accused of not coming to Paris ‘to play tennis’ by her first-round opponent Laura Siegemund after arriving for her opening match in a flowing black skirt and corset made from her old Nike outfits before unveiling the shimmering gold dress, which the Japanese star said she thought looked like the Eiffel Tower at night.

The black corset and skirt was designed by couturier Kevin Garmanier, who works with upcycled materials. The pleated black skirt was made using the inner layers of one of her jackets while her old tennis skirts and dresses were also cut up and reused. The outfit was then covered in hundreds of hand-applied crystals.

‘I came here to play tennis, not to put on a fashion show,’ Siegemund had told TNT Sports. ‘And if others want to put on a fashion show, then they should go ahead and do it. That’s totally fine with me.’

Her second-round opponent Donna Vekic took a different view, calling for critics to ‘relax’.

‘Some people take tennis way too seriously,’ she said. ‘Relax, it’s just an outfit. I think it’s good that she’s doing different things, expressing herself through fashion.

‘Whether it’s good or bad, that’s a different thing, it’s fashion.’

At Wimbledon, Osaka played with the tournament’s strict all-white outfit by turning to Japanese designer Hana Yagi for a kimono-inspired look which referenced both Kill Bill star Lucy Liu, and kirigami, the Japanese art of paper-cutting.

Osaka sported the custom white outfit, covered with embroidered cranes and cherry blossom, both enduring symbols of Japanese culture, with bell-shaped sleeves, an obi belt, and a trailing tulle skirt.

Osaka finished the outfit with a kanzashi hair ornament, historically worn by geisha, and Mikimoto jewellery from the famous Japanese luxury pearl brand.

As Osaka progressed throughout the tournament, she subtly changed the styling of the outfit, opting to wear just the belt and trailing tiered skirt, or the jacket open instead of cinched at the waist.

After defeating Aryna Sabalenka to book her spot in the quarter-finals however, Osaka changed her tune somewhat, saying that she felt inspired to ‘dial back’ her focus on outfits, and instead switch it to tennis.

Discussing her photoshoots before the tournament, Osaka shared that she had been inspired by her own experiences spending time on-site late before the crowds pour in.

‘I feel like I’ve just been running around the grounds earlier in the morning just before, like, the crowds come in, and I feel like I’ve also just been exploring places that I’ve never been to before,’ Osaka shared. ‘And I always feel a little, like, am I allowed to be in here? But we keep getting by.

‘So I would say we just open doors and kind of like peek in. But also Seb (photographer Sebastian Arriagada) kind of led me into the media room. Yeah, thank you for letting me take photos in your workplace.

‘Honestly, like, nothing I do, I do it to make a statement. I think it just ends up being that way,’ she said of her eye-catching on-court looks.

‘But I literally do the things that I love to do, and I feel like people relate to it, and I’m really glad and grateful for that, because I feel like the type of person I am, a lot of people can see themselves in me. I really, honestly, I love that about myself.’

Sydney House Prices Brace for Biggest Drop in 40 Years

0

Sydney homeowners have been put on alert, with the city’s housing market on track for what could become its steepest property price fall in four decades following six straight months of declines.

New Realestate.com.au (REA) data shows Sydney’s median house price has fallen by $87,000 since November, sliding 5.8 per cent from $1.632 million to $1.545 million.

The downturn is being fuelled by higher interest rates, which have left buyers facing some of the biggest mortgage repayments in Australia. That has intensified housing affordability pressures and forced some prospective purchasers to step back from the market.

While Sydney property prices weaken, regional NSW continues to outperform the capital as buyers search for more affordable housing options outside the city.

Cotality head of research Tim Lawless told The Australian he believed “we are headed for the largest correction in Sydney for at least the last 40 years”.

‘That view is not breaking from the pack,’ Mr Lawless said.

Adding to uncertainty is the prospect of a cash rate rise by the Reserve Bank. Although it has been held at 4.35 per cent during the last two reviews, both Commonwealth Bank and ANZ predict a rise in November.

The cash rate had previously rose three consecutive times from 3.85 per cent to 4.35 per cent between February and May this year.

House prices in Sydney and Melbourne continue to fall month on month

House prices in Sydney and Melbourne continue to fall month on month

Melbourne is faring even worse than Sydney, with house values falling for a 10th consecutive month and wiping almost $65,000 off the value of the typical home.

In Melbourne, a combination of factors, including increased housing supply and the impact of Covid lockdowns, has contributed to the decline in property values.

REA Group senior economist and report author Eleanor Creagh said investor demand had also weakened following the Federal Budget, which included changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax, making investment in existing properties less tax-effective.

These changes included restricting negative gearing to newly constructed properties, and a minimum 30 per cent tax rate to capital gains.

The standard 50 per cent capital gains discount was also replaced with an inflation-adjusted method. The changes are to take place on July 1, 2027.

‘Since the budget we’ve seen falling investor search activity on realestate.com.au and that’s been corroborated by the lending data with investor borrowing pulling back,’ Ms Creagh said.

‘Downward pressure on investor demand means less competition and can add to downward pressure on prices,’ she added.

Property Investors Council of Australia founder Ben Kingsley agreed the Federal Budget had contributed to the downturn.

Melbourne (pictured) has seen property values fall for a 10th consecutive month and is the worst-performing capital city over the past decade

Melbourne (pictured) has seen property values fall for a 10th consecutive month and is the worst-performing capital city over the past decade

‘There’s no doubt that the May budget has caused a property shock that’s amplified the current downturn we are experiencing,’ Mr Kingsley said.

‘What’s happened is the federal government has caused a sentiment shock which has flowed through into confidence for the market, and that’s not only investors who have pulled up stumps, but first-home buyers and all types of buyers.’

Ms Creagh said similar investor tax changes were also one reason Victoria had underperformed since the pandemic.

Investor tax changes introduced by the Victorian Government under former premier Daniel Andrews in 2023 had also reduced investor interest in the market, she said.

‘The property tax environment has been less favourable to property investors, which may have affected investor demand in Victoria.

‘And we have had investors choosing to sell homes, and that has been a contributing factor,’ she said.

Melbourne has recorded just 37 per cent growth in house values since 2016, making it the worst-performing capital city over the period.

By comparison, house values in Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth have more than doubled.

Are government tax changes making it impossible for everyday Australians to buy or keep their homes?

Liberal housing spokesman NSW Senator Andrew Bragg said Labor’s higher taxes were ‘destroying confidence and making new developments uneconomic’.

However, the Federal Government defended its housing policies, pointing to measures designed to help first-home buyers while noting that a range of factors can influence property prices.

A spokesperson for Housing Minister Clare O’Neil said, ‘We’re levelling the playing field for first home buyers, helping 75,000 Australians into home ownership through our tax reforms and hundreds of thousands more through our 5 per cent deposit program’.

‘A number of factors influence house prices and rents, including interest rates, supply and global economic factors.’

Looking ahead, Ms Creagh said the direction of house prices would depend on the prospect of further interest rate rises and the upcoming spring selling season.

‘Spring selling season is going to be an important test of whether we see price falls continuing to ease or whether potentially there’s additional downward pressure on prices if we do see a large increase in the flow of new listings here in the market,’ she said.

Video: Maryland Carjacking Suspect Drives Toward Police Before Officers Open Fire

0

New body camera video released by police in Maryland captures a tense encounter in which an alleged carjacking suspect drove toward officers, hit one officer and several vehicles, and was then fired upon as she tried to get away.

Anne Arundel County police said officers were called around 9 p.m. on May 7 to the area of North Crain Highway and 11th Avenue in Glen Burnie after a reported hit-and-run. Investigators said the woman had crashed her vehicle into another car, then forcibly took a vehicle from a family member who had come to assist her.

Authorities later identified the woman as 28-year-old Jasmin L. Cooper and said she was found inside the vehicle in the 8500 block of Severn.

In the footage, officers are seen aiming their weapons at Cooper as she remains inside the car, repeatedly ordering her to “turn the car off” and “get out of the car.” At one point, she lifts her hands from the steering wheel, but she does not step out of the vehicle.

“So what, she stole her son’s car?” one officer is heard saying in the footage.

A short time later, the woman pulled out of the parking space and sped away while officers hurried out of the way.

Police said Cooper drove toward the officers, striking an officer, two patrol cars and another vehicle, prompting officers to discharge their firearms, striking her..

Additional officers responding to the scene observed Cooper turn onto Reece Road. She crashed into another car in the area of Reece Road and Telegraph Road and attempted to break into another occupied vehicle before officers apprehended her.

The footage shows the woman lying on the ground in handcuffs. The video also shows officers bandaging the woman’s wound after she was shot in the parking lot.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul Faces Backlash After Wearing Hijab

New York Governor Kathy Hochul faced fresh criticism after delivering remarks at an Islamic center in Queens while wearing a traditional headscarf.

The Democratic governor had already clashed with Ted Cruz last year over her decision to wear a head covering at the funeral of slain NYPD officer Didarul Islam.

On Friday, Hochul visited the Islamic Cultural Center of New York in Queens, where she attended the center’s weekly Jummah prayer service.

Video shared on social media showed the governor wearing a black headscarf with a charcoal gray suit as she addressed those gathered.

In the clip, Hochul thanked Tareq Albanai, Kuwait’s representative to the United Nations, referring to him as “his excellency.”

The governor also thanked Albanai for allowing her to ‘be part of the family’ by inviting her to the center.

The center thanked Hochul in an Instagram post Friday that showed two photos of Hochul not wearing the headscarf.

‘Her visit was a meaningful recognition of the role ICCS plays in New York as a community partner serving and bringing together New Yorkers from across our diverse city and state,’ they wrote.

‘We are grateful to Governor Hochul for spending time with our community and for her continued commitment to ensuring that every New Yorker feels safe, respected, and supported.’

They said the liberal was able to speak to their congregation before visiting the school on the campus.

Much like her 2025 appearance in a headscarf, she drew furious criticism from prominent conservatives, including Cruz.

Bruce Blakeman, the Republican Nassau County Executive running against her for governor in November, called it ‘tone-deaf’ just weeks before the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

‘Kathy Hochul will say whatever she needs to say and become whoever she needs to become when there are votes on the line,’ he wrote.

‘Less than two weeks before the 25th anniversary of 9/11, this kind of political pandering is especially tone-deaf. New Yorkers deserve a Governor with principles that don’t change depending on the audience.’

CNN conservative commentator Scott Jennings joked that it was rich coming from the party that accused Republicans of oppressing women.

‘Republicans need to stop this theocratic Handmaid’s Tale bullcrap … wait being told this is the Democratic Governor of New York,’ he wrote.

Does wearing religious symbols as a politician show respect or cross a line during sensitive anniversaries?

‘A self-described feminist voluntarily wearing a hijab to not offend/arouse Muslim men. Oh, the irony,’ added Riley Gaines.

Cruz previously slammed Hochul for wearing the scarf to Officer Islam’s funeral in 2025, reacting to a photo of her by asking: ‘Um, wut?’

Hochul fired back at the time that ‘respecting a grieving family’s faith is “wut” leaders and anyone with basic decency would do.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to Governor Hochul for comment.

A recent survey showed Hochul leading Blakeman by just four points, 47-43. Ten percent of registered voters are still undecided.

Red Oak Strategic – which conducted the poll on behalf of a pro-Blakeman super PAC – showed just 38 percent of those questioned viewing the Democrat favorably, compared to 58 percent unfavorably.

Only 33 percent of those surveyed say Hochul – who has been endorsed by socialist and newfound ally Zohran Mamdani – deserves a second full term.

Blakeman, meanwhile, is seen favorably by 30 percent of voters against just 23 percent unfavorably, according to The New York Post .

Perhaps most alarmingly, Hochul – who took over in 2021 after Andrew Cuomo resigned – trails Blakeman among independents by a whopping 21 points, 54-33.

Positive signs for Hochul remain her advantage in fundraising, as she has a combined $43million to spend between her own campaign and the state Democrat Party.

Hochul defeated former Congressman and current EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin by just six points in 2022, when traditionally liberal areas lagged in the midterm of Joe Biden’s presidency.

Tupac Shakur Murder Verdict: Keffe D Found Guilty by Jury

0

Nearly three decades after Tupac Shakur was fatally shot in Las Vegas, a jury has convicted 63-year-old Duane “Keffe D” Davis in the rap legend’s murder.

Shakur was shot on the night of September 7, 1996, while riding in a black BMW driven by Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight. The pair were stopped at a red light near the Las Vegas Strip when a white Cadillac pulled up beside them and gunmen opened fire. Shakur, one of hip-hop’s most influential figures, died six days later from his injuries.

According to ABC News, jurors deliberated for less than three hours before reaching a unanimous verdict. Davis was found guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang.

Prosecutors have said Davis was not the person who fired the fatal shots in the drive-by attack. They argued the gunman was either his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, or another passenger seated in the back of the Cadillac.

Authorities instead portrayed Davis, an admitted longtime leader of a Los Angeles street gang, as the organizer behind the killing. Police and prosecutors alleged he acted as the “shot caller” and supplied the weapon used in Shakur’s murder.

The other three men who allegedly participated in the shooting have all since died. According to the Associated Press, prosecutors presented mounds of evidence linking Davis to the crime, including his own confessions in his memoirs and on tape.

Davis co-authored “Compton Street Legend,” a book about the shooting and Davis’ time in the Crips gang.

His attorneys unsuccessfully fought to block the book’s use at trial. They argued it was fictionalized, and that because it had a co-author, it’s impossible to know which portions Davis wrote.

The memoir says Shakur and his entourage “crossed the line” when they beat up Davis’ nephew at a Las Vegas casino. Prosecutors have alleged Davis’ anger over the beating is part of what motivated the shooting. However, they have decided to focus more on Davis’ documentary and police interviews rather than his book.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told jurors that even Davis did not pull the trigger in the murder of Tupac Shakur, he did “plan the shooting in retaliation of the beating of his nephew.”

In a 2008 interview with the FBI during an investigation into the killing of rapper Notorious B.I.G., Tupac’s chief rival, Davis said on tape that he remembered handing a gun to the men in the backseat of a white Cadillac before the drive-by shooting that killed Tupac Shakur and wounded Marion “Suge” Knight.

Davis faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. He is the only individual tried and convicted for the murder of Tupac.

Tom Cruise’s Days of Thunder Sequel: Updates and Where to Watch

Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway have somehow never shared the screen, despite both being among Hollywood’s most instantly recognizable stars. That long-running absence appears set to end with an unexpected vehicle: Days of Thunder, which reportedly functions as Days of Thunder 2, a sequel to Cruise’s 1990 NASCAR drama.

In a way, the original Days of Thunder already lived in the shadow of a sequel before one existed. Released four years after Top Gun, it reunited Cruise with director Tony Scott, producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, and a familiar obsession with speed. Cruise played Cole Trickle, a brash stock car driver forced to rein in his reckless talent, discover discipline and, perhaps, become slightly less unbearable along the way. The film arrived with major summer-movie expectations in 1990, but it never matched the cultural or commercial lift of Top Gun. It earned nearly $100 million less in North America and found itself crowded out by breakout successes including Ghost and Presumed Innocent. Rather than dominating the season, Days of Thunder landed closer to that summer’s underperforming follow-ups, including Back to the Future Part III and Another 48 Hours. For that reason, a new Days of Thunder faces a very different challenge than Top Gun: Maverick, which benefited from decades of affection for a genuine pop-culture landmark.

Still, Days of Thunder has left a stranger footprint than its reputation might suggest. John C. Reilly’s role in the film helped pave the way for his later appearance in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, arguably the sharper racing movie overall. More famously, it was the project that introduced Cruise to Nicole Kidman, who played Cole’s neurosurgeon love interest. The two married at the end of 1990, adopted two children and went on to co-star in Far and Away in 1992 and Eyes Wide Shut in 1999 before separating in early 2001. Because those later collaborations pushed Cruise further outside his usual blockbuster lane, Days of Thunder remains their biggest commercial success together, even if it has never enjoyed the strongest critical standing.

So, why make Days of Thunder 2?

The movie also clearly carries personal weight for Cruise. It marked his second and final collaboration with the late Tony Scott, who later became one of the defining thriller filmmakers of the 1990s and 2000s, particularly through his work with Denzel Washington. It is also one of the rare Cruise films to feature a story credit for the star himself. After getting a firsthand look at the NASCAR world, Cruise pitched the core idea and received shared “story by” billing with legendary screenwriter Robert Towne, who wrote the film and whose credits include Chinatown, Shampoo and The Last Detail. Yes, the idea of a Days of Thunder sequel may suggest Hollywood’s legacy-franchise machine is scraping the barrel. But Cruise likely has real affection for the original, is still chasing the afterglow of Top Gun: Maverick, and may well have taken note of Brad Pitt’s racing drama F1, itself built with more than a little Maverick-style energy.

What’s Days of Thunder 2 about?

Plot details have not been officially disclosed, but Hathaway is reportedly playing a team owner and engineer, a role that practically invites at least one cowboy-hat moment. With many actors in their sixties, the obvious concern would be that Hathaway had been cast primarily as a much younger love interest. Cruise, however, seems increasingly conscious of the odd tension around his screen persona as a romantic lead. If anything, this pairing sounds more in line with his later Mission: Impossible dynamic: emotionally intense, deeply loyal, maybe suspiciously close, but ultimately framed as professional respect rather than a conventional romance.

Will Nicole Kidman appear in Days of Thunder 2?

Well, Kelly McGillis didn’t come back for Top Gun 2, but then again, Nicole Kidman remains a pretty major Hollywood star who works in tons of movies and TV shows every year. The greater obstacle is that Kidman and Cruise, while careful not to badmouth each other in public, are very divorced. Their children together, Bella and Connor, are Scientologists like their father, and though Kidman has remained mum on the religion post-divorce, it was cited as a major reason for their split. Moreover, Kidman and Cruise haven’t been seen together publicly in 25 years. Neither of them attended their daughter’s wedding. They clearly keep their distance.

On the other hand: It’s not impossible to picture Kidman putting in a surprise Days of Thunder 2 cameo, akin to a character from one superhero universe stepping briefly into another to please the fans. It probably won’t happen, but it can’t be ruled out entirely.

When is Days of Thunder 2 coming out?

Paramount has scheduled the movie for June 2, 2028. For those keeping track of the summer 2028 movie schedule, that’s a month after the X-Men reboot, a week after the Lilo & Stitch sorta-live-action sequel, and two weeks before Incredibles 3. (Disney calls a lot of dates in advance.) So June 9, 2028 is still available in case you have a big summer movie looking for a slot.

Is Days of Thunder on streaming? Where to watch the original Days of Thunder:

It sure is. The best way to stream it is probably Paramount+ where it will run ad-free (and feels thematically appropriate because it’s such a “Paramount in 1990” movie). But it’s also currently available on PlutoTV if you can handle the frequent ad breaks. It’s also available to rent or purchase digitally.

CHICAGO (WLS) — As summer nears its end in Chicago, the city is confronting the deadliest and largest mass shooting of the season, which unfolded over the weekend.

At least 41 people were shot in incidents of gun violence across Chicago from Friday through Sunday night, with three people killed. Among those victims were 15 people struck by gunfire Saturday night in Washington Park, including one person who died.

The day in Washington Park had started on a peaceful note, as former residents of the Robert Taylor Homes came together for a reunion. But by nightfall, the gathering had been shattered by violence.

Bamani Obadele, who once lived in the Robert Taylor Homes, said the community must not allow shootings like this to become an accepted part of life.

“This is not something we should embrace as a norm. This is unacceptable and we need to do better as a community to get out in front of these incidents,” said Obadele, who is with the community health organization Acclivus.

Obadele said he believes the shooting targeted 35yearold Rontonio Guterz, who was killed. Fourteen others were injured, most of them described as innocent bystanders.

Pastor Sandie Norman of Life Beyond Limit Inc. urged those responsible to stop the violence.

“I really want to speak to the shooters. You know what you’re doing is wrong. You know you don’t get a pass to kill people and go into these large gatherings shooting innocent people,” she said. “We have a tendency to normalize 15 people that have been shot one day and the by tomorrow the issue goes away. And it should be more accountability.”

Earlier in the day, Acclivus had a table in the park offering information about its services, including mental health therapy and crime intervention. Obadele said he is concerned that many young people will be scarred after witnessing the violence.

A short distance away in Douglass Park, another shooting left one person dead and two others injured. Acclivus is offering services to those affected by both incidents.

“We must help young people understand this is not normal behavior and this is not acceptable means to an end. We have to deal with conflict in a different way,” Obadele said.

Chicago police say they have made no arrests so far in either of those shootings. Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information.

Acclivus will host an event Tuesday to help victims and their families at their office on 54th and Wentworth from 2-6 p.m.

Innocent Medical Student Shot Dead in Bed by Sydney Gangsters

A 23-year-old man killed in a suspected mistaken-identity shooting during a Sydney home invasion has been named as Marco Tapia, a medical student and youth leader at Hillsong Church.

Mr Tapia was asleep in bed when three masked intruders forced their way into his family’s home on Mount Sugarloaf Drive in Glen Alpine, in Sydney’s south-west, about 3.40am on Tuesday. Police believe he was shot in the neck and arm in what may have been a botched gang-related execution targeting the wrong person.

His parents and sister were also inside the house when the terrifying attack unfolded.

The gunmen escaped after the shooting and are still being sought by authorities.

Investigators have said Mr Tapia had no links to gangs and was known to police only over minor traffic matters. He had a long-term girlfriend and was regarded as a young man with a promising future ahead.

He finished a Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences in 2024, started studying for a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering in January, and was partway through an internship in personalised surgery.

In his spare time, he volunteered with engineering outreach programs and was involved with his local Hillsong church as a youth leader.

Just a month ago, his engineering team at the University of Technology won an award for creating a scaffold for treating severe skeletal muscle defects.

He shared the win on LinkedIn and thanked all his teammates.

‘He was innocent,’ a family member said. ‘He didn’t deserve this.’

Police are investigating whether the shooting is linked to ongoing conflicts involving the Alameddine crime family and rival groups, including the Coconut Cartel.

Shortly after the deadly shooting, alleged Coconut Cartel leader Iziah Utai posted a chilling social media message that appeared to suggest the gunmen had targeted the wrong person.

‘Popped the wrong person, didn’t even get the right house,’ the post was captioned, alongside crying-laughing emojis.

The post also included a song by a rapper reportedly associated with the Alameddine crime network.

Utai is wanted by police over the alleged murder of underworld figure Dawood Zakaria last May, and has been regularly taunting the Alameddines on social media.

It is the second deadly home invasion in Sydney within three days after Emad Alameddine, 28, was shot dead at his Guildford home on Saturday night.

An ongoing feud between the Alameddine network and Coconut Cartel gang has allegedly been linked to multiple shootings and deaths across Sydney in recent months.

A search is under way for the home invaders, who fled the property before emergency services arrived on Tuesday morning.

Acting Superintendent Gretchen Atkins said police were aware of Utai’s post and were investigating whether the deadly attack was a case of mistaken identity.

‘We don’t know a lot at the moment, but everything is being considered,’ she said.

A neighbour who lives just metres away from the property told the Daily Mail Marco was a ‘quiet’ man who she’s seen several times.

‘He just zips in and out,’ she said, pointing to his black Honda still parked outside the driveway.

‘They’re a quiet family. It’s really shocking.’

While she didn’t hear any gunshots this morning, the woman said she had felt unnerved yesterday after seeing two hooded men sat in a white car outside of her driveway.

‘They were sat out there for hours and I remember seeing them and thinking it was weird. I joked (to my partner) that they were on a stake out, and, then…’ she said.

After growing annoyed at them parked outside her driveway, the woman asked her partner to sandwich the suspicious car with their rubbish bins.

She said the car then did a swift U turn and parked on the opposite side of the road, still directly facing the Tapai family home.

Another neighbour,  who lives metres away from the house, told the Daily Mail they were shocked when they awoke to news of the shooting.

‘We saw on the news there had been a shooting in Glen Alpine but didn’t realise it was on our street,’ she said.

‘We didn’t hear anything.

‘It’s scary to know this happened so close to us. Our street is usually so quiet.’

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
