Virginia Removes Confederate Statues Through State Budget Provision

0

Three Confederate statues were removed from Virginia’s Capitol Square on Friday, after contractors carried out a directive included in the state budget approved by the General Assembly in June.

Among the monuments taken down was the statue of Confederate Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, a fixture on the Capitol grounds since 1875. Crews also removed the 1904 statue of Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire, a Confederate Army surgeon, along with the 1906 monument to William “Extra Billy” Smith, a Confederate general who served two separate terms as Virginia’s governor.

The removals were required under Budget Item 71 #1C, which instructed the Department of General Services to clear Capitol Square of all Confederate monuments and memorials, according to an agency spokesperson. The budget language also provided funding for the effort, with lawmakers allocating $1.8 million in the fiscal 2027-28 spending plan that took effect July 1.

Friday’s work followed an earlier legislative setback for supporters of removing the statues. Former state Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria) sponsored SB636 during the 2026 session, and the measure passed the Senate along party lines. It later stalled in the House Appropriations Committee before lawmakers inserted the removal provision into the budget instead.

Ebbin, who has since left the legislature to join Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s administration, said the decision was not about erasing history, but about reconsidering whom Virginia chooses to publicly honor.

“This doesn’t change the history of the Civil War,” the Alexandria Democrat said. “It changes who we choose to venerate on the Capitol lawn.”

State Sen. Mike Jones (D-Richmond) credited the governor’s administration with finishing a push he dated to 2018.

“I’m glad that our current administration, Governor Spanberger, that they’re ensuring that we continue what we began some years ago,” Jones said.

Spanberger campaigned as a moderate before signing 10 executive orders on her first day in office. In April, the former congresswoman signed legislation stripping tax exemptions from Confederate-linked organizations and ending renewal of specialty license plates featuring Robert E. Lee.

The budget language directed that the statues be given to the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, whose chief executive said they would be moved to battlefield sites in the Shenandoah Valley.

“Preservation is more about the future than the past, and ensuring the preservation of the Capitol Square monuments is a part of that clear vision,” CEO David Walker said.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) said last week at a Boston campaign event that “the Confederacy is still alive and well” and that “that’s all MAGA is.”

The Department of General Services said the three pedestals could take up to a week to remove and that no replacements are planned.

Chicago Bears Close Preseason With 24-15 Win Over Titans

0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tyson Bagent wasted no time making his mark, hitting Zavion Thomas for a 97-yard touchdown on the Chicago Bears’ very first offensive snap as Chicago closed out its NFL preseason schedule Saturday night with a 24-15 victory over the Tennessee Titans in a matchup dominated by reserves.

With rookie quarterback Caleb Williams observing from the sideline, Bagent opened the game in rhythm, completing his first seven throws for 155 yards. He added a 2-yard touchdown pass to Maurice Alexander in the second quarter, while the Bears (2-1) kept drives alive by converting each of their first four fourth-down attempts.

Titans coach Robert Saleh had emphasized the value of giving starters meaningful preseason work, especially after Tennessee held joint practices with each of its exhibition opponents, all of them NFC playoff teams. But in the finale, the Titans (2-1) leaned heavily on backups, with Cam Ward watching from the sideline as Will Levis got one last audition before Sunday’s NFL roster cut deadline.

Bagent, the former Division II standout who went undrafted, offered another reminder of why Chicago rewarded him in August 2025 with a two-year extension to serve as Williams’ backup. He finished his night 16-of-17 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns, exiting at halftime with the Bears ahead 14-9.

Tennessee did use a few defensive regulars, including end Jacob Martin, linebacker Cedric Gray and nickel cornerback Marcus Harris. Still, Bagent repeatedly found room against the rest of the Titans’ reserve secondary, which included Keydrain Calligan and Micah Robinson.

Martin recovered a fumble credited to Bagent off a botched handoff on the second drive, prompting a celebration joined by All-Pro tackle Jeffery Simmons, end Jermaine Johnson II and rookie end Keldric Faulk who watched from the sideline.

Levis was 14 of 22 for 143 yards with a fumble he recovered off a botched handoff. The 33rd overall pick in the 2023 draft did lead the Titans to a trio of field goals, the last as time expired.

Bears and Titans use quarterback rotations

Case Keenum took over in the third quarter for Chicago. Roschon Johnson ran for a 3-yard TD with Cairo Santos adding a field goal to pad the lead to 24-9. Rookie QB Miller Moss, undrafted out of Louisville, played the fourth quarter for Chicago.

Hendon Hooker took over for Levis after halftime. Mitch Trubisky, signed in March to back up Ward, stayed on the sideline along with the Titans’ starting quarterback.

Tennessee’s lone TD came on a 9-yard run by D’Ernest Johnson with 3:50 left. The 2-point conversion failed.

Slye was the Titans’ best offensive threat this preseason

Slye finished the preseason with 11 field goals, including becoming the first NFL player since the start of the 2017 preseason to make at least four in consecutive exhibitions. He added two more in the first half against the Bears and finished by making all five from 50 yards out or longer.

By halftime, he had 11 field goals for the most by any player in a preseason since Graham Gano had 13 in 2016 for Carolina.

Up next

Bears: Open the season Sept. 13 at Carolina.

Titans: Host Saleh’s old team the New York Jets on Sept. 13.

Dodgers’ Edgardo Henriquez Throws 103.6 MPH Sinker, Makes MLB History

0

For most pitchers, touching 103.6 mph would be the kind of moment that defines a season. For Dodgers reliever Edgardo Henriquez, it is beginning to look almost routine.

The 24-year-old right-hander began the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday by unleashing a front-door sinker that left Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler frozen. The pitch clipped the edge of the zone for strike three, and Dingler immediately asked for a review.

“Got him looking! A 104-mile-per-hour sinker,” the broadcast announcer said as the stadium reacted to the overpowering pitch.

The automated ball-strike system upheld the call, and Statcast later put an exact number on it: 103.6 mph with a spin rate of 2,439 rpm.

According to MLB, it was the fastest strikeout pitch by a Dodgers pitcher since pitch tracking began in 2008, providing a brief spark in an otherwise disappointing 2-1 loss to Detroit.

He entered Saturday responsible for 22 of the fastest tracked pitches thrown by a Dodger and 14 of the franchise’s 16 fastest strikeout pitches. The sinker tied his career high, first reached June 2 against the Diamondbacks.

His normal velocity explains why the singular bursts barely seem singular. Baseball Savant lists Henriquez’s average 2026 sinker at 100.8 mph and his four-seamer at 100.5. Most relievers chase triple digits. Henriquez lives there.

In August 2025, his 103.3 mph four-seamer to Ryan O’Hearn matched Jonathan Broxton’s Dodgers tracking-era record. One year later, that benchmark resembles an early chapter.

Velocity alone did not make Saturday’s pitch effective. Henriquez located the sinker on the edge, leaving Dingler enough doubt to challenge but not enough to change the result.

The Dodgers could not turn the milestone into a win as their late-season problems continued to stack up. Henriquez nevertheless supplied a scoreless eighth and another reminder that the extraordinary has become his baseline.

The next 103 mph pitch may arrive without a record attached. That is how wild velocity becomes ho-hum history: Henriquez reaches these numbers so often that the surprise is no longer the speed, only the new label it receives.

Man United Midfield Mess: Tchouameni Truth and Baleba Fix

0

As Manchester United made the long journey home from Hull last weekend, defeated and visibly chastened, Michael Carrick’s most pressing worry may well have been the early shape of his revamped midfield.

United have invested £85million this summer in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, yet both were overshadowed by Hull’s far more modest engine room. Regan Slater, signed for just £50,000, and Matt Crooks, the 32-year-old EFL stalwart whose career since scoring in Middlesbrough’s shock FA Cup win at Old Trafford in 2022 has included a spell with Real Salt Lake, were the players who imposed themselves on the contest.

Carrick was keen to stress that it was only a single match, and with good reason. Back in Manchester, there was at least a significant boost as Carlos Baleba underwent his medical ahead of completing a £70m transfer from Brighton this week.

Getting to this point, however, has been anything but smooth for Manchester United. In June, the club agreed a £38m deal with Atalanta for Ederson, only to walk away after concerns emerged during the Brazilian midfielder’s medical process.

United’s search became even more complicated when leading target Elliot Anderson moved to Manchester City, a deal that appeared beyond their reach once the fee climbed to £116m. Tottenham then added to the frustration, beating them to Mateus Fernandes with an £85m offer before also securing Sandro Tonali in a £100m move.

The more their rivals have spent, the more it seemed as though United’s decision to operate within a tighter budget had allowed the Premier League’s other top clubs to leave them behind. Certainly, a move for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni always seemed fanciful.

After Santos arrived from Chelsea for £50m in July and Tielemans swiftly followed after United triggered his £35m buyout clause at Aston Villa, it still felt as though a stellar signing was needed to excite the fans.

In the end, the search led back to Baleba, a player United had first inquired about last summer only to be put off by Brighton’s valuation of more than £100m.

In that sense, a fee of £65m plus up to £5m in add-ons represents good business for one of the Premier League’s most promising defensive midfielders – even though the 22-year-old Cameroon international struggled last season, perhaps disillusioned at missing out on a dream move to Old Trafford.

United insiders say Baleba remained under consideration throughout this summer, but only at the right price. It was not by chance that the club left it a little later in the transfer window to make their move, getting Baleba for £30m less than he would have cost a year ago.

The approach to Brighton was United’s first since then, and negotiations are said to have been wrapped up relatively quickly – even though the player has arrived with an ankle injury that means he won’t be able to make his debut against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford this afternoon (sun) or for some time after that.

‘It’s not always straightforward, and things have got to drop,’ said Carrick. ‘In the end, we’ve been patient. We wanted to get the right players in that fit the group and will take us forward, and Carlos is definitely one of them. We’re delighted to have him and once he gets going in the next two to three weeks he’ll be really strong.’

Unlike last summer, when United revamped their attack by moving decisively to sign Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo before adding Benjamin Sesko, the midfield rebuild has taken a more circuitous route with a few twists and turns along the way.

But having tied Kobbie Mainoo to a new contract in April, United have replaced Casemiro, who left as a free agent this summer, and Manuel Ugarte, who would have moved on were it not for the knee injury he suffered at the World Cup.

Carlos Baleba has arrived from Brighton in a £70million move, but will he solve their problems?

Carrick has other options in central midfield. Mason Mount impressed there before suffering yet another injury setback midway through pre-season, while the Fletcher twins, Tyler and Jack, are two of the academy players working most closely with the first-team group at Carrington.

But primarily he will pick from a gang of four. Two defensive No.6s in Baleba and Santos. Two more progressive No.8s in Tielemans and Mainoo.

Time will tell if this a group capable of delivering success at a club that have struggled for years to find worthy successors to midfield stars like Bryan Robson, Paul Ince, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes.

Plenty of new signings have tried and failed: think Paul Pogba, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Fred, Morgan Schneiderlin and Ugarte to name but a few.

You may have to go back as far as the arrival of Carrick himself 20 years ago for the last great midfield signing, but the current United boss is happy with the players who have arrived this summer.

‘I think we’ve got a really good balance,’ said Carrick. ‘We’ve certainly got youth in there. And when I say youth, that comes with a lot of experience and not youth where it’s really young, with Youri and Mason to balance that off.

‘Obviously it’s picking the right balance, the right combinations, at certain times. I think it’s a really strong midfield, and a really strong unit, so I’m really happy with that.’

Santos and Tielemans won’t have been happy with their Premier League debuts for United at Hull, where they were replaced in a double substitution in the 67th minute with their team already 2-0 down. It came on the back of a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in the final pre-season friendly, but there is every chance they will be given another opportunity to impress against Ipswich today (sun).

Mainoo was introduced off the bench at the MKM Stadium as he steps up his fitness following a frustrating World Cup with England, and it’s understood that the 21-year-old is expecting regular football after almost leaving the club last season under Ruben Amorim.

As Carrick says, the challenge will be to get the rotation and chemistry right in a season that sees United having to cope with the added demands of the Champions League.

He succeeded in the second half of last season using Mainoo alongside Casemiro after Amorim clipped Bruno Fernandes’ wings by playing him in a deeper role next to the Brazilian.

For all the talk about his age and earnings, Casemiro’s nine goals were more than Baleba, Santos, Tielemans and Mainoo combined. The 34-year-old also played more forward passes per game than Tielemans and covered more ground than Baleba.

Now he has gone, Carrick must adapt the new group to get what he wants which, based on the evidence so far this summer, is playing on the front foot and moving the ball forward quickly. It could well be the difference between success and failure.

5 Daily Exercises to Fight Muscle Loss After 55 and Build Strength Without Weights

0

A smart, sustainable fitness routine can make a major difference in how strong, mobile, and resilient you feel as you get older.

>

Preserving lean muscle becomes increasingly important with age—and for good reason. Muscle mass can begin to decline as early as your 30s, with that loss often accelerating after age 60. Without a consistent strength-building plan, reduced muscle and strength can start to interfere with everyday activities, from climbing stairs to carrying groceries.

The right exercise program can help improve balance, lower injury risk, support smoother movement, and promote healthier bones, joints, and metabolism. Put simply, maintaining strong muscles is one of the most effective ways to protect long-term health and independence.

If you’re ready to get serious about staying strong, these five daily exercises are worth adding to your routine to help combat muscle loss after 55. According to Matt Kasee, CSCS, a certified personal trainer and founder of Trilogy Fitness Systems, these moves don’t need to be treated as separate from traditional weight training—they are, in fact, a form of resistance training.

“The difference is that they can be scaled to meet someone where they are. You don’t have to lift extremely heavy weights to challenge your muscles,” Kasee explains. “Resistance bands, lighter dumbbells, body weight, slower tempos, pauses, greater ranges of motion, and additional repetitions can all make an exercise more demanding. For an older adult who can’t tolerate heavy loads, those variables become very useful. What’s important is that the exercise eventually feels challenging enough to create an adaptation.”

Below, Kasee shares five daily exercises that give you the most bang for your buck.

Bodyweight Squats

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Extend your arms ahead of you or place your hands on your hips.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips as you lower into a squat.
  4. Descend until your thighs are parallel to the floor.
  5. Press through your heels to rise back up to standing.

This 15-Minute Morning Routine Reverses Muscle Loss Faster Than Long Workouts After 45

Romanian Deadlift (Hip Hinge Motion)

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides.
  2. Bend your knees, press your hips back, and reach your hands toward your feet. Maintain a straight back as you do so.
  3. Squeeze your glutes to return to the start position.

5 Short Workouts That Keep You Stronger Than Most 30-Year-Olds After 50

Wall Pushup (Push Motion)

  1. Begin standing tall, arms-length away from a wall.
  2. Place your hands shoulder-width apart on the surface.
  3. Engage your core and bend your elbows to lower your chest toward the wall.
  4. Press back up to the starting position, keeping the movement slow and controlled.

5 Standing Strength Moves That Reverse Muscle Loss Faster Than the Gym After 45

Single-Arm Row

“A row is a great pulling movement for the back and arms,” Kasee tells us.

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Hold a water bottle in each hand in front of you.
  3. Hinge at the hips until your torso is parallel to the floor.
  4. Maintain a flat back and soft knees.
  5. Allow the water bottles to lower with your arms completely extended.
  6. Row one bottle up toward your torso.
  7. Lower to the start position with control.
  8. Repeat on the other side.

Dick Van Dyke, 100, Reveals His Inversion Table Workout

Dick Van Dyke isn’t letting a milestone birthday slow him down — even at 100, he’s still making fitness a priority.

The beloved Mary Poppins star gave Instagram followers a glimpse at his workout routine on Saturday, August 29, showing how he uses an inversion table to stretch his entire body. In the video, Van Dyke lies upside down on the equipment before moving his arms behind his head, settling into a situp-like position.

“Keep moving,” he told his fans.

Van Dyke marked his 100th birthday in December 2025, but the Hollywood legend continues to project the same upbeat energy that has defined his career. He also opened up about his commitment to staying active in his 2025 book, 100 Rules for Living to 100: An Optimist’s Guide to a Happy Life, where he shared some of the habits that help him maintain his health and optimism.

Writing that he has never been the “wake up and go back to bed type,” Van Dyke said he notices “stiffness creeping in here and there in my joints” when he skips the gym for too many days. Still, he acknowledged that motivation does not always come easily, admitting that on days when he feels “sluggish and reluctant,” he sometimes has to “dangle” a reward to get himself moving.

“[A] huge smoothie and/or frothy caffeine treat after my workout, full-body tingly exhilaration, sharper mind, sense of accomplishment to bask in for the rest of the day nap time [that is] well-earned, limber dancing in the days ahead,” he wrote.

Aside from his inversion table workout, Van Dyke mentioned that he frequently uses a “circuit” of exercise machines.

“Going from one machine to the next without a break, in a circle,” Van Dyke explained. “I start with sit-ups on the sit-up machine.”

Dick van Dyke Says 40 Year Age Gap With Wife Arlene Is Irrelevant

Dick Van Dyke is 98 years old, and he couldn’t be happier. He and his wife, Arlene Silver, met at the SAG Awards in 2006 and tied the knot in 2012, despite Silver being 46 years younger. For Van Dyke, that didn’t matter. He recalled meeting Silver, 52, during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight’s […]

He continued, “Then, it’s lower body — I do all the leg machines religiously and repeatedly because my legs are two of my most cherished [parts]. And then the upper body. The sector ingredient to my gym time is the music. For some reason, our gym is sparsely attended in the early mornings — bad for the owners, but better for me and [wife Arlene Silver]. She knows how to get into the sound system, so she always brings my kind of stuff, and she really blasts it.”

Van Duke and Silver always try to start off their exercise routines early in the morning — which allows them to tackle the day with plenty of energy.

“It’s the music that really gets me going. … By the end of my workout, I’m in a sweaty rush, the blood flowing fingertips to toes and my spirits are soaring,” he wrote.

Dick Van Dyke isn’t letting his age get in the way of a workout! Rick Springfield, 76, shared a photo via Instagram on Friday, September 26 of the Mary Poppins star, 99, flexing his muscles at the gym. Clearly impressed by Van Dyke’s commitment to fitness, especially at his age, the musician quipped, “I thought […]

The Diagnosis: Murder alum told fans at a Vandy High Tea event just before his 100th birthday that he’d made two major lifestyle changes that may have contributed to him reaching the milestone age.

“I got rid of booze and cigarettes and all that stuff, which is probably why I’m still here,” Van Dyke revealed last December. “I think I was probably in my 50s before it dawned on me.”

Driver Gets 32 Fines After Criminals Cloned Her Number Plate

0

When Sandra Yarwood arrived home after a two-week break, nothing about the small black Volkswagen Golf parked outside her London street seemed out of the ordinary.

Then the penalty notices began landing on her doormat.

The Earl’s Court media consultant was stunned to find herself facing 32 separate fines of £90, issued by seven different councils. The allegations ranged from driving in bus lanes to illegal parking and entering restricted traffic zones across the capital.

But Ms Yarwood had not been behind the wheel at all. She was in Canada when the offences were recorded, and soon discovered she had been caught up in a growing number plate cloning scam affecting drivers across Britain.

Each year, thousands of motorists learn that criminals have copied their vehicle registration plates and fitted them to other cars, using the fake plates to dodge fines, avoid detection or, in some cases, commit more serious offences.

In Ms Yarwood’s case, the cloned registration number had been fixed to a similar black Golf in south London.

Yet it was when she tried to contest the £2,880-worth of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) that her nightmare truly began.

She said: ‘I can’t count the hours I’ve spent fighting the tech and the bureaucracy. They make it as hard as possible to contest traffic fines.

The media consultant from Earl’s Court in London, had received 32 separate £90 fines from seven different local authorities

‘Most of the time you can’t speak to anyone at all. The default position is that you must have done it.’

Her plates were cloned in the middle of June but eight weeks on, Sandra says she still has two £90 fines hanging over her and, because she missed a deadline, was ordered by Lewisham Council to appear before legal tribunals set for February 2027.

She said: ‘I thought if I reported that my car had been cloned to the DVLA and the police, and quoted the incident reference number, that would be enough.

‘But no, I was deluged with follow-up letters demanding proof of where my car was at the time – how does anyone do that? – and photographs of my car from every angle.

‘I duly photographed my car from every angle and realised that I had an English Heritage sticker on the windscreen.

‘I scoured the footage I’d been sent with the PCNs and… the fraudster’s car does not have an English Heritage sticker – or the scratch down the side caused by the low bollard near my doctor’s surgery. And it doesn’t have a sunroof – which I’d forgotten about.’

Ms Yarwood spent hours uploading this information on to various websites – each PCN demanded a separate appeal – and Greenwich, Transport for London, Southwark, Central Parking Management (which runs parking in SE26) and Merton conceded her case.

She said: ‘But all this information can only be shared if the websites and portals work, and at Lewisham and Lambeth, they don’t.

‘I tried every day for a week to upload the photos, but each time was met with a blank screen. I tried one more time and bingo, Lewisham was up and running. But not Lambeth.

‘I had to deal with an unhelpful chatbot. When I finally did get through to someone, they told me, ‘The system is down’. Next, I sent pictures of my Golf by registered post to show it’s not the same car as the one in the PCN. It was only when I spoke to a human being that I got anywhere.

‘I’m in my sixties and know how to use a computer. If I were less tech savvy, then God help me.’

A spokesman for Lambeth told The Mail on Sunday that both outstanding PCNs have now been cancelled.

He said: ‘We’re very sorry that Ms Yarwood experienced difficulties contacting us. We will work with any motorist who believes a PCN has been issued unfairly, and we are happy to correct any errors as quickly as possible.

‘But in cases of alleged cloning, we are required to establish a high level of evidence, including clear photos of all four sides of the vehicle in question.

‘We are aware of a technical issue last month which meant motorists were briefly unable to submit a challenge on our website.’

A spokesman for Lewisham confirmed the PCNs had been cancelled and said: ‘We’re sorry Ms Yarwood found the process frustrating – especially considering the unfortunate situation.

‘We are working to improve how cloned registration cases are identified and reviewed.’

Teacher Convicted of Indecently Assaulting Teens After Sabrina Carpenter-Style Behavior Claims

0

A former chemistry teacher has been convicted of sexually assaulting two teenage boys, bringing a decades-old case to court more than 40 years after the abuse took place.

Sally-Anne Bowen was found guilty on Aug. 27 of seven counts of indecent assault after jurors deliberated for nearly seven hours, according to The Guardian. The 65-year-old is due to be sentenced on Nov. 20.

Bowen had denied the charges, telling Harrow Crown Court in London that the allegations were a “total fabrication.” She said she did not know one of the victims and insisted she had never been in a relationship with the other.

“Absolutely not, no relationship whatsoever,” Bowen told the court, according to The Guardian. “Student-teacher.”

Prosecutor Madeleine Wolfe told the court that one victim’s evidence carried a “visceral quality” and showed the enduring impact of the abuse.

“It’s not a schoolboy fantasy, is it? He’s started this account in 2014,” Wolfe said in court. “This has real-life implications for him [and] remained with him for decades.”

The assaults began in 1988 when Bowen was a teacher at the all-boys school Christ’s College Finchley in London. Bowen was in her mid-20s while her victims were around the ages of 14 and 15.

Around that time, a witness reported concerns to the school that Bowen and a student were having a sexual relationship, according to a 2024 report published by the Teaching Regulation Agency. However, the report, which includes findings from a teacher misconduct panel, does not clarify whether any subsequent action was taken.

One former student recalled in the report becoming close to Bowen after taking the same bus home from school. They got off at the same stop, and sometimes he walked her home.

He also described an incident at a café in which Bowen allegedly made an inappropriate sexual comparison after seeing him and his friends looking at a pornographic magazine. Over time, the student said he came to view Bowen as his best friend and believed they were in love, he told the panel.

Still, he “knew that he should not tell others about their relationship,” the report noted, “out of loyalty to her.”

According to the student, he and Bowen kissed on the bus and outside of a pub and had sexual encounters in her apartment.

That student reported the allegations to police in 2014, but according to the report, a police investigation “concluded with no further action.” The student then “pursued an unsuccessful appeal of this decision and a judicial review which led to no further criminal law action being taken.” In 2018, the report notes, the student brought the allegations to the Teaching Regulation Agency.

Richard Luker, who was the head of the science department in the 1980s also testified about a complaint from one victim’s mother that her son had planned to travel overseas with Bowen after the school term ended, according to The Guardian.

When questioned by police, Bowen denied sexually abusing the student, saying in the report that he had created such “fantasies” because he was “besotted” with her. At the time, a representative for Bowen suggested to the panel that the student was “infatuated” with her, which he denied.

Bowen also told police, per the report, that she considered the student a “pest, a nuisance, someone who was always getting into fights at school” and that he “generally hassled her.”

The victims, now in their 50s, later testified at Bowen’s trial.

One former student told jurors that Bowen sexually abused him “about 20 or 30 times” over several months, according to The Guardian. He said he considered her his girlfriend at the time.

“I never, ever spoke to anyone about it,” he said. “I was always really aware, she drummed it into me…Years she got to teach because I remained silent.”

He added that the abuse was “the destruction of my education.”

The other victim testified that he kissed Bowen at a café after he was “goaded” into it by his peers.

Jurors also heard from former student Tobias Oliver, who did not know the victims but recalled Bowen being “very flirtatious.” According to The Guardian, Bowen said she was not flirtatious with students and that she was “just friendly.”

Oliver remembered things differently.

“The topics of conversation in class,” he said according to the outlet, “often strayed away from chemistry and became quite sexual.”

Bowen allegedly behaved like she was in “a Sabrina Carpenter video,” he told the court, and “dressed and behaved more like my teenage female friends than the other teachers.”

When Bowen was asked in court about how she dressed at school, she responded that she “wasn’t going to dress like Margaret Thatcher” while in her mid-20s.

Wolfe declined to comment when asked by Oxygen. Attorneys for Bowen and a spokesperson for Christ’s College Finchley did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Oxygen.

Yankees’ George Lombard Jr. Exits With Possible Knee Injury

The Yankees could be facing yet another injury concern.

George Lombard Jr. exited the second game of Saturday night’s doubleheader against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium after appearing to suffer a right knee injury.
