Nationwide ICE Operations Surged Under Trump’s Leadership

0

In a significant development during Donald Trump’s second term, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported the arrest of nearly 50,000 migrants in July, marking a notable increase in enforcement activity.

ICE data shared with the University of California, Berkeley, revealed that immigration authorities made 49,571 arrests, representing a 15% uptick from the 43,021 detainments in June and a staggering 70% surge since February.

Texas and Florida were standout states, contributing nearly 20,000 detainees to July’s figures. According to PBS News, in the month preceding Trump’s return to the presidency, ICE arrests stood at around 8,000.

This spike in arrests is attributed to ICE’s aggressive recruitment efforts. The agency bolstered its workforce to approximately 29,000 by June, a significant rise from the 21,000 employees when Trump resumed office in January 2025, as reported by the New York Times.

Additionally, ICE has ramped up a program that enlists local police forces to assist in immigrant arrests. These collaborations now account for about 14% of ICE’s nationwide arrest operations.

Florida has credited the program with 15,000 arrests, while Texas says local officers have made another 10,000 on behalf of ICE. In smaller states, such as Wyoming and West Virginia, it accounts for more than half of all ICE arrests.

The latest data dump has seen arrests double in two Democratic-led states, New Mexico and New Jersey, even as both states passed laws earlier this year restricting state officials from cooperating with ICE. Sparsely populated states such as Vermont and Montana also saw their arrest numbers double.

Trump has poured billions in new funding into ICE through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and expanded contracts with firms such as Palantir to assist with immigration and border enforcement.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin promised to shift the administration’s approach to mass deportations, telling senators at his confirmation hearing that he intended to focus on arresting criminal migrants, ‘the worse of the worse.’

However, most immigrants ICE arrested last month had no criminal charge or conviction, and fewer than 4 percent had a past violent conviction, according to the data.

The former Oklahoma senator took over from Kristi Noem, whom Trump fired roughly six weeks after DHS agents shot and killed two American citizens during immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis.

The data itself has become contested because Marc Rosenblum, the official in charge of publishing information on immigration arrests and deportations, resigned in late July after a decade at DHS, citing a ‘challenging and often hostile work environment.’

His office grew to 45 people under Biden and has been downsized under the second Trump administration, according to multiple reports.

ICE released no detention or deportation figures between April 9 and July 24, missing multiple semimonthly reports that typically cover arrests, detentions and removals.

Trump began his second term with immigration as his strongest issue, riding four years of Republican fury over what the party called an open border under Joe Biden.

But 19 months into his second White House stint, his standing on the issue has collapsed.

An Economist/YouGov poll conducted in August found 53 percent disapprove, a net rating of minus 13, down from plus 11 at the start of his second term.

A separate AP survey released earlier this month put him at 39 percent approval and 58 percent disapproval on immigration.

Mullin has faced criticism from conservatives in recent months for not being tough enough on immigration enforcement, including from former Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino

Mullin has also drawn fire from the right, where hardliners accuse him of going soft on immigration enforcement.

Former Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino argued the secretary was undermining mass deportations during a recent interview with Tucker Carlson.

Right-wing figures such as, Laura Loomer and Steve Bannon, have also piled on after Mullin said the claim that immigrants steal American jobs holds in some industries but not all.

Immigration and the cost of living are among several issues dogging Republicans as they head into a midterm election that could cost them their majorities in both chambers of Congress.

The surge in ICE arrests comes after Border Patrol has recorded fewer than 10,000 encounters a month at the southwestern border since February 2025.

Their numbers represent the lowest totals in more than 25 years of available monthly data, according to a Pew Research Center.

Lana Del Rey Addresses Buzz Over Her Waffle House Shift Experience

Earlier this summer, fans were buzzing with excitement upon discovering Lana Del Rey working as a waitress at a Waffle House in Alabama. The unexpected sighting went viral, and now the singer is expressing a desire that her latest album could generate similar excitement.

In a revealing cover story for the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter, the 38-year-old musician, whose net worth is approximately $30 million, shared her thoughts openly.

Her ninth studio album, “Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” released in March, received critical praise but debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 115,000 album-equivalent units.

In July, the internet was ablaze with videos and photos of the “Young and Beautiful” singer donning a complete Waffle House uniform, seemingly as if she was on an actual shift, sparking widespread social media chatter.

Lana was asked if she was surprised by the frenzy and got candid as she said: ‘I wish my album had gone as viral.

‘I woke up to, like, 10,000 texts the next morning — some from folks I had not heard from for 10 years. “Saw your picture at the Waffle House!” I was like, “Did you hear the new album?”‘

As for the reason Lana was seen working there has remained a bit of a mystery since the viral moment, there was a bit of explanation in the article.

According to THR reporter Michael O’Connell, Lana had been visiting Florence, Alabama with her brother and sister in July.

They found themselves in the same booth at the Waffle House there for seven days before an offer was made to sport the uniform.

Lana explained: ‘We were on our third hour, and the servers asked, “Do you guys want shirts?” Hell yeah! We were thrilled.’

As the Summertime Sadness singer has enjoyed a career lasting nearly two decades, she has been cited often as an inspiration to the current generation’s biggest acts including Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish.

Lana reflected on how she can digest paving the way for this era’s singer/songwriters as she said: ‘Billie and Olivia are such good people, it’s f***ing awesome. I love them and their music.

‘It’s not like you have to be nice to be good [in music]. But, if you happen to be nice and a great singer, it makes me happy for the culture. I always had girls telling me [things like] that.

‘Maybe not the critics or anybody else — but singers I knew, no matter how big or small, would write me letters. I always felt like the older sister to pretty much everyone I ever met.’

The relatively short 10 date run will conclude in Charleston, West Virginia on October 5.

Festival Attendees Face Challenging Weather with Met Office Thunderstorm Alert

0

Despite summer’s promise of sunshine, festival enthusiasts are bundling up in ponchos and wellies amid downpours, as the Met Office has announced a fresh yellow warning for thunderstorms and intense showers.

This alert is active until 9 PM on Saturday, spanning from the southwest of England and sections of Wales, through the Midlands, and extending to the eastern parts of England.

Residents and business owners are being alerted to the increased risk of flooding in these regions, with possible train delays and extended travel times for drivers.

Certain areas could experience 15 to 25mm of rain within an hour, and up to 30mm in two to three hours, accompanied by hail and lightning.

Those attending Reading, Leeds, and other musical gatherings should brace for rain later today, as low-pressure systems move eastward, bringing heavy showers in their wake.

Umbrellas were also out in force at Lord’s in London as cricket fans turned up for day three of the second Rothesay Test match featuring England v Pakistan.

Four areas, mainly across the Midlands, are covered by Environment Agency flood alerts, meaning floods in these areas are possible.

The wetter weather comes after continued hot temperatures across the UK, which coincided with extremely dry conditions.

Met Office experts have previously said the UK is on course for its hottest summer on record after five heatwaves, with temperatures of up to 38.1C recorded in London.

Festivalgoers at Reading Festival were pictured frolicking in the rain during the event, with many laughing and posing for photos as they remained in good spirits despite their outfits being drenched in mud.

Geese frontman Cameron Winter warned festivalgoers not to ‘drink the water’ on Friday as heavy rainfall seeped through the tent during their set.

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said: ‘An area of low pressure is currently pushing eastwards across England and Wales and Northern Ireland, pushing rain across the country. That’s going to be followed by heavy showers.

‘Temperatures generally reaching the low 20s, highs of 22 to 23C.

‘It will be a different picture for Scotland even though it’s largely cloudy, there will be some brighter spells.

‘For most it’s quite a bright start tomorrow, but it won’t be long before showers bubble up.

‘We will see heavy showers developing throughout the day in the north and west of the UK and some thundery weather.

‘With tomorrow being a bit more of a day of sunshine and showers, it should mean with a bit more sunshine around temperatures will be a bit higher, with highs of 20 to 23C for most and isolated areas could see 24C.

‘Monday will be a brighter day for most, quite a lot of cloud around, but also showers, more frequent in the north of the UK.

‘Temperatures may come down a touch, between 19 to 22C, maybe locally 23C.’

And wind gusts of 35 to 40mph could be seen on the south coast on Saturday, while Leeds Festival could get some gusty winds on Sunday if heavier showers hit.

Georgia Family Shattered as New Crime-Scene Clues Challenge Mom’s Mysterious Death Theory

0

Fresh questions are swirling around the mysterious 2020 death of Georgia resident Natalie Jones, especially in light of a negative toxicology report, the discovery of several missing teeth, and the curious positioning of her car’s driver’s seat.

Titled “The Truth About Natalie,” a gripping six-part series from Audiochuck delves into the 27-year-old’s life before she vanished, the puzzling circumstances of her death, and looks closely at the debatable overdose scenario.

The podcast blends evidence from case files, crime scene details, revealing interviews from Natalie’s family and a dedicated volunteer advocate, as well as independent forensic examinations.

Elaine Gordon, Natalie’s mother, recounted to News Media the difficult interactions with investigators, saying that a detective accused her of interference as she persistently sought the truth about her daughter’s fate.

“What did they expect me to do, sit at home and be quiet? And I still want somebody to answer this for me: How do we even know Natalie left that lake house in the first place?” Gordon told News Media.

Gordon also questioned whether investigators thoroughly interviewed everyone connected to her daughter’s final hours.

The final text

Jones disappeared after reportedly leaving a friend’s lake house in Jackson’s Gap, Alabama, on July 4, 2020, in a bright pink 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. She planned to drive home to Heard County, Georgia.

At 12:52 a.m. the following morning, her phone sent its last outgoing text to the mother of a former boyfriend.

“I made it. Thanks.”

The message did not indicate where Jones had arrived.

Cellphone data reviewed in the podcast indicated that on July 5, Jones’ phone connected with towers across Heard County in a scattered pattern, including on the opposite side of the county from her home. Cellular activity stopped shortly after 5 a.m.

Later that morning, Jones failed to arrive at her sister’s home to babysit her children, prompting the family to contact police.

Nearly three months passed without answers. Then, in October 2020, a property owner’s nephew discovered Jones’ vehicle off Roosterville Road in rural Heard County, covered in thick vegetation.

Heard County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Jones deceased in the driver’s seat, slumped toward the driver’s side door, wearing the same clothes she had worn to the gathering. Her body showed advanced decomposition and partial mummification.

The medical examiner could not determine Jones’ cause or manner of death.

Questions inside the car

Although investigators said they found no evidence of foul play, the podcast highlighted several details that left Jones’ family scrambling for answers.

Crime-scene photos showed the driver’s seat reclined and pushed farther back than Jones, who stood 5 feet, 5 inches tall, would have kept it. Strands of her hair were wedged along the driver-side door jamb, and the vehicle’s trunk had been popped open.

Jones’ cellphone, rhinestone sandals, belt and white sunglasses were unaccounted for. Several of her teeth were also missing.

Investigators found a small bag inside the car, possibly containing methamphetamine, but the GBI Crime Lab recovered no fingerprints from it. Jones’ toxicology screening came back negative for drugs.

Family seeks new review

In 2021, family advocate Jennifer Peterson petitioned the Heard County Superior Court to impanel a special grand jury to examine Jones’ death, including the possible involvement of a former boyfriend who had been identified as a person of interest, but never charged in the case.

In 2022, the district attorney told Peterson that the case was being closed.

“We have raised serious questions, inconsistencies and concerns, and too often it feels like they are dismissed, minimized or ignored,” Peterson told News Media.

By 2023, law enforcement and the district attorney’s office had stopped responding to her, Peterson said.

“At some point, you have to ask, ‘Who polices the police?’ And what does it take for someone with the authority to simply say, ‘I’ll listen, I’ll look at it, and I’ll help?’ We are still waiting for that person. Hopefully, someone can help us.”

Peterson contacted Audiochuck podcast host Sean Kipe in March 2023.

“What bothers me most is that authorities pushed an accidental overdose theory even though Natalie’s toxicology report came back completely clean,” Kipe told News Media.

“Combining that negative drug test with missing evidence like her phone, shoes and teeth makes it nearly impossible to accept the official explanation.”

Kipe said Heard County authorities have not contacted him since the podcast’s release. He added, however, that several law enforcement officers from the area reached out to him with doubts about the overdose theory.

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office told News Media that investigators are still seeking leads in the case and that if “anything comes in, we will be glad to run it down.”

The Heard County DA’s Office referred the inquiry to the West Georgia Judicial Circuit DA’s Office, which was not immediately available for comment.

“My ultimate hope is to bring Natalie’s mother and children the closure they deserve after years of unanswered questions,” Kipe said.

“By sharing this story with a wide audience, we want to compel authorities to reopen the investigation into Natalie’s death and encourage anyone with information about the case to come forward.”

For Gordon, the podcast also offers an opportunity to show listeners who her daughter was beyond the unanswered questions surrounding her death.

“I want everybody to know how loved Natalie was and how much she loved her boys, Trent and Isaac. She wanted a better life for the three of them,” Gordon said. “She was excited about her future.”

Gordon said that before she disappeared, Jones had bought land and was planning to build a home there for her two young sons. She also had plans to attend college.

The first three episodes of “The Truth About Natalie” are available now, with new episodes released each Monday.

El-Sayed’s Pawpaw Comment on Usha Vance Sparks Controversy and Potential Backlash

0

In a political move that’s stirring significant controversy, Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has directed a racially charged comment at Second Lady Usha Vance. This action appears to be backfiring, potentially alienating Michigan’s 130,000 Indian-American voters along with crucial female constituents, sources revealed to The Post.

The ill-advised remark showcases El-Sayed’s vulnerabilities, according to a GOP source. The insider criticized the anti-Israel Democrat for targeting women to project toughness. El-Sayed’s controversial post on platform X questioned, “So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no …”

“I believe Abdul suffers from a Napoleon complex, choosing to victimize women to seem formidable, rather than confronting the men he professes to challenge,” the insider conveyed to The Post.

While JD Vance has yet to respond directly to the remark aimed at his wife, strategists expect him to address it head-on. Vance is scheduled to campaign in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District near Detroit on Monday, where insiders anticipate a strong rebuttal to El-Sayed’s comments.

State GOP party co-chair Sunny Reddy expressed confidence that Vance will adopt an assertive stance, telling The Post, “He’s definitely going to come out swinging. Expect a significant response from the community,” Reddy added.

The swing state ranks third nationally in female voter participation, with 69% of women turning out, according to Census Bureau data, about 10 points above the national average.

Republicans see an opportunity to try to peel away South Asian voters from El-Sayed, whose parents are Egyptian immigrants, in a race that pits him against former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.).

El-Sayed leads Rogers by less than a percentage point in the RealClearPolitics average.

Michigan state GOP chair Reddy said family members should be off limits.

“We may have differences. We attack each other. But going to the family and the kids is a disaster,” he fumed. “They are not the one running.”

Reddy predicted it would hurt El-Sayed with middle-aged women, Indian-Americans, and other ethnic groups, and slammed him for dragging Usha’s recent pregnancy into his attacks.

“Enough is enough,” he said, adding that the party is already working to put El-Sayed’s comments into an ad. The state party and Indian-American leaders demanded Friday that El-Sayed apologize.

Reddy was referencing another crude El-Sayed remark that brought up Usha – this one during the candidate’s April appearance on “The Allen Analysis Show” podcast. “What do you think is going through Usha’s head when [JD Vance] talks? She’s like, ‘Damn, I have to sleep with him,’” he said. “I guess she’s pregnant so something is happening.”

The nasty attack, which relates to the vice president’s late father James Lee Vance, known as “Pawpaw,” ultimately fell flat on its face as Vance deftly neutralized the smear.

She told Fox News in an interview last week she “kind of laughed” when she heard it – but then punctured the attack by saying how “incredibly loving” his children were to her and that the late Pawpaw would have done the same.

Vance invoked his Pawpaw on a trip to Ohio last Friday when he accused El-Sayed of saying if you criticize Sharia law “you’re a white supremacist.”

Pawpaw features prominently in Vance’s autobiography, “Hillbilly Elegy,” where Vance called it “one of the great regrets of my life that Mamaw and Papaw never met” Usha.

The Post reached out to El-Sayed’s campaign for comment.

The Usha flap comes as El-Sayed is trying to insulate himself against critics from within his own party demanding he end his association with Hasan Piker, who is accused of antisemitism and said “America deserved 9/11.” He appeared with Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a prominent Jewish House member, and Debbie Dingell (D-Mich) in Ann Arbor Thursday.

“Don’t any reporter ask me again about Hasan Piker,” Dingell told a crowd of supporters. “It’s not what November is about.”

Former Bill Clinton advisor James Carville wasn’t so willing to side-step the issue in a race that has El-Sayed leading by less than a percentage point in the RealClearPolitics average.

“I find this guy [El-Sayed] to be really, really troubling. I think he’d do himself some good if he made very clear the specific things that Hasan Piker said that he disagrees with, because I gotta tell you, they make me really, really uncomfortable,” Carville said on his “Politics War Room” podcast.

Vice President Shettima Urges Friends to Pray for Nigeria Instead of Celebrating His 60th Birthday

As Vice President Kashim Shettima turns 60 on September 2, he has requested that Nigerians, as well as his friends and associates, refrain from holding public ceremonies or publishing birthday advertisements in his honor.

Instead of lavish celebrations, Shettima has asked his well-wishers to channel their efforts into praying for Nigeria. He seeks prayers for the success of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, enhancements in national security, as well as greater unity and peace across the country.

Approaching his 60th year, Vice President Kashim Shettima has discouraged public festivities and birthday advertising, urging his circle to keep the occasion low-key. He emphasizes that the spotlight should remain fixed on advancing the nation’s interests.

Shettima desires a quiet commemoration, with attention firmly steered away from his personal milestone towards contributing to Nigeria’s development and progress.

The Vice President clarified that his choice stems from a sense of responsibility and the urgent need for national focus. In light of Nigeria’s current challenges, he insists personal celebrations should not overshadow vital issues facing the country.

“To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms,” Shettima said.

Rather than receiving congratulatory messages through newspapers, radio, television and digital platforms, Shettima urged Nigerians, friends and associates to channel their goodwill into prayers for the country and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He specifically called for prayers for the success of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges, greater national unity, peace and prosperity.

The Vice President is expected to turn 60 on September 2, with the milestone providing an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. However, he has chosen a subdued approach and asked those who would ordinarily organise celebrations or publish goodwill messages to refrain from doing so.

His request also means that friends, political associates and well-wishers have been encouraged to mark the occasion by praying for Nigeria rather than organising public events in his honour.

Expert Tips for Gaining Muscle Without Extra Protein Boost

0

Today’s grocery aisles are overflowing with an array of protein-enhanced products, ranging from cereals and pasta to chips, pretzels, coffee, and even protein-infused Pop-Tarts. The trend is unmistakable.

When a sugary breakfast pastry is touted as a protein source, it becomes glaringly evident that food companies are keen on tapping into consumers’ burgeoning fascination with protein intake.

Despite the robust scientific backing fueling much of the current protein craze, many individuals are already consuming sufficient amounts in their regular diets.

Thus, it is crucial to differentiate the marketing hype aimed at adding protein to nearly everything from what is genuinely essential for maintaining health.

What are proteins?

Along with carbohydrates and fats, protein is one of the three macronutrients you need to eat in adequate amounts for your body to function.

Carbohydrates and fats are your major sources of energy. While protein can also be used for energy, its main purpose is building and repairing the body.

Protein is necessary to build and sustain muscles. This includes skeletal muscles, the muscles that allow your heart to beat, the muscles that squeeze food through your stomach and intestines, and the muscles that open up your airways to breathe.

But muscle is not the only body part that needs protein. Protein is also important for the functioning of your nervous system, immune system, skin, hormones and other essential components.

So protein is not just ‘muscle food.’ It is needed throughout your body, even though the marketing of protein-rich foods focuses on muscle.

Protein is necessary to build and sustain muscles. This includes skeletal muscles, the muscles that allow your heart to beat and the muscles that open up your airways to breathe

Protein is necessary to build and sustain muscles. This includes skeletal muscles, the muscles that allow your heart to beat and the muscles that open up your airways to breathe

What are amino acids?

Proteins are made of amino acids, of which there are 20 types. It’s the combination and number of amino acids, as well as the shapes of the proteins they create, that give proteins different roles in the body.

Your body obtains amino acids by digesting the proteins you eat and breaking them down into these individual building blocks.

How well your body absorbs amino acids and makes them available for use is affected by many factors, including the protein source and cooking.

Animal proteins are generally more digestible than plant proteins, and cooking generally enhances protein digestibility.

Of the 20 different amino acids in proteins, nine are considered essential because the human body cannot make them directly and must obtain them from food. Most protein-containing foods have the majority of these essential amino acids, but some foods are low in one or more of them.

Animal-based proteins, such as eggs, dairy, fish, poultry and lean meats, are good sources of the essential amino acids. Most protein-rich plant foods, such as most beans, nuts and rice, are low in one or more essential amino acids. Soybeans are an exception, providing a complete composition of essential amino acids.

Medical professionals recommend eating a variety of protein sources, including some that are complete, to ensure you’re getting all of the essential amino acids. Eating a mixture of protein-rich plant foods can overcome deficiencies in one particular plant food.

Protein powders, often used as supplements, vary in essential amino acid content and composition. Compared to animal-based powders, plant-based powders tend to have lower levels of one or more essential amino acids and lower protein levels in total.

How much protein do you need?

There is little scientific debate that dietary protein is critical to good health. A harder calculation is how much protein you need.

A commonly cited standard is the federal recommended dietary allowance, or RDA. In January 2026, the US government raised the adult RDA of dietary protein from 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight to 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram.

For a 150-pound person, this almost doubles the recommendation from 54 grams to between 80 to 110 grams a day. Some experts have interpreted this update as focusing on optimizing health as opposed to ensuring adequate protein intake to avoid deficiency.

The new federal guidelines are not without controversy, however. How much protein a given person needs is a complex question that depends on individual health goals, age, sex, activity level, medical history and other factors. Consulting with a medical provider or licensed nutritionist can help individualize dietary protein targets.

Many experts agree that the average, healthy US adult already consumes enough protein. While most healthy adults can tolerate moderately high protein intake, overloading on protein could create health problems, such as kidney damage and digestive issues.

Companies market high-protein diets to encourage weight loss because consuming more protein tends to increase feelings of fullness. A 2026 study identified a link between the amino acid leucine and appetite suppression through a connection between the gut and the brain.

That said, while suppressing appetite may help with weight loss, it may also reduce a person’s consumption of calories from fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains that provide fiber, vitamins and other important nutrients.

What about protein powders and supplements?

Protein powders are a $20 billion industry, and their popularity reflects both the idea that dietary proteins can support muscle growth and reduce muscle loss as well as how lucrative protein supplements can be.

For people with low appetites or those who have difficulty meeting dietary protein recommendations, protein-enriched foods can be a useful way to increase protein intake.

This might include those taking GLP-1 weight loss medications, which can reduce appetite and make it harder to eat enough protein and other nutrients.

But while a protein shake can deliver essential amino acids, it does not provide the broader nutritional value of protein-rich foods, such as fish, beans, nuts, yogurt and soy products.

Moreover, protein-fortified packaged foods may come with increased sugar, salt or saturated fats. A protein bar may be closer to a candy bar with better branding.

For these reasons, medical organizations recommend consuming well-planned combinations of protein sources from non-packaged foods.

Building muscle takes more than just protein

Beyond bodybuilding, science has elevated society’s appreciation for the importance of dietary protein in combating muscle loss due to aging, weight loss or injury.

Some experts don’t think doubling protein intake is as important to building muscle as resistance training, a type of exercise that creates force and strain on muscles to signal the body to repair and grow more muscle.

This is different from endurance training that improves aerobic capacity.

A 2021 clinical trial found that only when dietary protein was combined with heavy resistance training did older adults see improved muscle size, strength and function.

Eating more protein alone will not build muscle because the critical molecular pathways for muscle growth and strength require repeatedly placing heavy forces on the muscle.

Challenging your muscles with repeated training and progressively heavier weights stimulates muscles to adapt by becoming larger and better able to produce force. The nervous system adapts too, becoming better able to activate and coordinate muscle movement.

Resistance training is also key to preventing the muscle loss that accompanies weight loss from GLP-1 medications, aging and recovering from injury. The key takeaway is that dietary protein and resistance training work together to promote muscle growth and maintain strength.

Protein in everything: Science vs. sales pitch

So, is the protein craze based on real science, or is it a fad?

It’s both. The science is clear – dietary protein supports muscle maintenance, growth, injury repair and recovery, fullness and weight regulation, and healthy aging. The fad is the idea that any food with added protein is automatically better – and that you can always benefit from more protein.

Protein deserves attention. But the marketing of protein-fortified food products is not a shortcut to a quality diet that provides a complete source of amino acids from nutritious foods.

Michelle Obama’s Bold Parenting Views Ignite Online Debate

0

Michelle Obama, the former First Lady, continues to make waves in the media landscape, largely due to her podcast with her brother that occasionally reflects her complicated sentiments about the privileged life she leads.

The Obamas, now a symbol of American success, enjoy the fruits of their labor with luxurious properties in Hawaii and Martha’s Vineyard. Barack Obama, revered as the first African American president, and Michelle are almost iconic figures for many with left-leaning ideologies, garnering unwavering admiration.

Yet, through Michelle’s candid podcast reflections, it seems her path has been shaded with challenges, including navigating a society plagued by racial bias, confronting a press that she views as insufficiently supportive, and managing the scrutiny that accompanies being the spouse of a global leader. Despite these hurdles, the demands of public life felt burdensome for her, turning what many would consider privileges into unwelcome obligations.

Her latest remarks have stirred up discussions yet again, this time touching on the topic of parenting. On Wednesday, during an appearance on Jon Stewart’s podcast “IMO,” she expressed relief at having moved past the demanding years of raising children, adding fuel to the ongoing conversation about her perspective on family life.

Jon Stewart: “You obviously miss the energy and excitement of the kids being around is so incredible.”

Michelle Obama: “I don’t! I love them. I’m going to see them tonight for dinner. I love them. But Barack cried when they went to college. I was like, ‘Bye, goodbye!’”

Stewart: “The thing I miss, though, is the job. It gave meaning and a pattern to my life.”

Michelle: “I’m good…”

The daily grind of taking care of children and ensuring their safety was a bit too much for the former First Lady:

“Now, Friday nights aren’t wracked with terror and fear about, ‘Where are you, where are you?'” she said, adding that she has loved seeing Malia and Sasha’s “growth” following their “emancipation”.

The bestselling author also stressed that her enthusiasm for this new phase didn’t mean she was any less close to her children.

“I’ve had so much quality time with my children, so much, I know them inside and out,” she said.

It’s a bit weird that she used a loaded word like “emancipation.” Parenthood isn’t about infringing on kids’ freedoms; it’s about nurturing them and keeping them safe. Unless parents are abusive, they don’t need to fight for their “freedom” from us.

“I love my schedule,” she added. Because that’s the most important thing in life, evidently: making sure your schedule doesn’t involve caring for other human beings. “I have a great schedule, and it’s all mine.”

I can sympathize with her that raising kids while in the White House must have been extremely challenging, with the never-ending scrutiny and criticism. I can only share my own experience, though, and I can tell you that raising my four children with my mama-bear wife has been the most amazing experience in my life, bar none, and even though they’re now in various stages of young adulthood, it continues to be.

Does it come with worry and sacrifice? Yes, of course, and that’s what makes it all the more meaningful.

Plenty of people had thoughts, and many of them weren’t kind. Conservative pundit Matt Walsh didn’t hold back:

Michelle had only two kids. She was rich and famous for most of their childhoods so she would have had a fleet of nannies and assistants doing most of the grunt work. And yet she still couldn’t wait for the kids to leave because the minor demands they made on her time and energy were still too much for her. Just a total raging narcissist.

Wrote political commentator Link Lauren: “This podcast is just her sitting around her mansion in Martha’s Vineyard complaining about how hard her life of luxury is, and how much she despises her husband and children.”

The episode airs as a disturbing number of women are supporting Lindsay Clancy, who stands accused of strangling her three children to death. Instead of condemning the heinous act, many leftists are sympathizing with her and saying the trauma of being a mom was just too much for her, as our Brandon Morse has been reporting.

Some of those types are totally down with Michelle’s position, pointing out that raising your kids into independent adults should be considered a victory. There’s merit to that argument; turning out well-functioning adults is the end-game when raising kids, but to myself and many others, Michelle’s point seemed to be about something more: parenthood sucks, and I’m glad to wash my hands of it.

California Republican Party Delegate and mom Elizabeth Barcohana said none of this is relatable to the devoted and loving moms and dads around the country:

“There is a difference between a mother expressing exhaustion from the demands of motherhood — which is real and relatable — and expressing resentment,” Barcohana said. “Resentment is what appears to come through in Michelle Obama’s remarks, and it is especially painful to hear amid the national conversation surrounding the Lindsay Clancy trial.

“She seems happy that her daughters’ childhoods are over. That is not a relatable feeling for most mothers at all.”

I’m so sorry Michelle Obama has lived such a beleaguered existence. It’s beyond me what exactly it is that would make her happy.

For myself, though, I’ve loved every minute of parenthood. Now I want me some grandkids. Get on it, offspring of mine!

Local Man Arrested for $2,000 Jersey Theft at University Bookstore

0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities detained Travis William Pavlovski, 40, for his alleged involvement in the theft of 15 jerseys, valued at approximately $2,000, from the University of Florida Bookstore.

On the afternoon of August 27, at around 4:50 p.m., Pavlovski was allegedly observed exiting a fitting room, arms laden with jerseys still on hangers. These jerseys, available in various sizes — small, medium, and large — each carried a price tag ranging from $130 to $140, summing up to a total estimated value of about $2,000.

It is claimed that Pavlovski proceeded to bypass all checkout stations, leaving the bookstore and heading east along Museum Road. Realizing that a bookstore employee was making a phone call behind him, he reportedly retraced his steps to inquire about the location of the “lost and found.” When informed no such service existed, Pavlovski allegedly abandoned the jerseys on the welcome desk.

Having already received a warning to stay off university premises just a day before, on August 26, Pavlovski now faces charges of grand theft along with trespassing following prior warning.

Reports indicate that Pavlovski confessed to avoiding all payment counters, admitting his inability to pay for the jerseys. He expressed a desire to enter a drug rehabilitation program.

Pavlovski has eight felony convictions (one violent) and 20 misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2014. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $22,000 but did not order Court Services to screen him for Drug Court.

Fox Hollow Coroner Questions Serial Killer’s Lone Wolf Theory in Pursuit of Truth

0

In an unsettling revelation that still haunts the public decades later, the sinister legacy of Herb Baumeister continues to linger. Nearly three decades have passed since the macabre discovery of thousands of human bones and fragments at Fox Hollow Farm, yet the chilling mystery of what transpired on that estate remains unsolved, and new, probing questions are surfacing.

The ongoing investigation has reached a critical juncture as Hamilton County’s chief coroner suggests that a pivotal individual in the case might not be telling everything they know, potentially hindering the quest for truth.

“I’ve engaged in a few discussions with Mark Goodyear,” Hamilton County Coroner Jeff Jellison shared with News Media, underscoring the complexities that have come to define this case.

“The initial question I’d present to him is, ‘Are you now ready to be truthful with me?’ Throughout our dialogues, honesty has been elusive. I posed several inquiries, aware of the answers, only to witness his failure to respond truthfully. To engage in a meaningful conversation with Mark Goodyear, he must choose to embrace honesty. Engaging with someone entrenched in deceit is a futile endeavor, one that I cannot afford,” Jellison stated, marking a critical stance in the ongoing investigation.

Jellison appears in the ABC News Studios true crime documentary “Return to Fox Hollow: New Victims, Darker Secrets,” which explores new theories about potential accomplices, overlooked evidence and witness accounts in the case of Baumeister, a suspected serial killer believed to have murdered numerous men in Indiana. It’s a follow-up to the 2025 docuseries “The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer.”

Jellison said he wants to determine whether Goodyear knows something that could help investigators identify the remaining victims and determine how they died.

Goodyear has never been charged with any crime related to the case and has repeatedly denied any involvement in the disappearances.

“If we move forward in that conversation, certainly I want to know any information I can gather to help identify these remains,” said Jellison. “Were you familiar with anybody? Things that would focus more around identification and how these people died.”

“Mark Goodyear knows a lot about this case,” Jellison said.

Jellison also shared that Goodyear knew many people through gay nightclubs and could help investigators identify some of the remains.

Goodyear, who participated in the first docuseries, has described himself as Baumeister’s only known survivor. The film detailed how investigators believed Baumeister may have filmed his victims with a secret camera hidden in an air vent in his basement. Goodyear said he was forced to watch some of the tapes in 1994. He said the video was so “bad” it made him scream.

“It was like having a camera right up against something,” Goodyear said. “You’re not going to be able to tell what’s going on, but the minute you got a flash of what was going on, it made you scream.”

The previous documentary examined how Goodyear’s account of his relationship and encounters with Baumeister has changed over the years. At the time, Jellison told News Media it was unlikely those tapes, if they exist, would ever be recovered.

News Media reached out to Goodyear for comment but did not receive a response.

Goodyear initially agreed to another interview for the follow-up documentary but did not appear for the scheduled interview, according to the film.

About 10,000 burned and broken human bones and bone fragments were recovered from the 18-acre estate that once belonged to Baumeister. Before investigators could arrest him in 1996, Baumeister was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Ontario, Canada. He was 49.

Investigators believe Baumeister frequented gay bars in Indianapolis, lured men to his home while his family was away, killed them there and disposed of their remains on the property.

Baumeister’s son discovered a human skull in the woods at Fox Hollow Farm in 1994, but, according to reports, investigators did not search the property until June 1996.

Goodyear said he first encountered Baumeister at an Indianapolis gay bar in 1994, where Baumeister introduced himself as “Brian.” Goodyear later told investigators that he went home with Baumeister and described what he said was a disturbing sexual encounter.

Goodyear’s account eventually helped advance the investigation. After encountering Baumeister again the following year, Goodyear helped investigators obtain information that led them to identify Baumeister.

While Jellison has questioned Goodyear’s account, he also made clear in the documentary that Goodyear was not a suspect.

“There are very strong indications there is another suspect, and it wasn’t Mark Goodyear,” Jellison said in the film.

Jellison said there are still more than 9,000 bones and bone fragments yet to be examined. Investigators believe at least 25 people fell victim to Baumeister, according to WRTV.

The scope and placement of the remains have also raised another question for Jellison: whether Baumeister could have carried out the crimes alone.

“I was always convinced that there was more than one,” Jellison said. “There were a lot of people that lost their lives in this incident, and just the placement of the evidence alone. How does one man pull this crime off? And how does one man get … deceased individuals from his residence to potentially 200 yards through very dense woods? I think it would’ve been a very difficult task.”

Jellison is determined to put names to the unidentified victims. He believes some families may still be unaware that a loved one vanished or that the person’s remains may have ended up at Fox Hollow Farm.

Jellison compared the scale of the investigation to the recovery effort at the World Trade Center.

“Some of these folks did not have close family connections, and they were somewhat marginalized,” he explained. “So there may be families out there not even knowing that their loved one went missing, much less consider that person was a victim at Fox Hollow.”

“Thirty years have passed since these remains have been recovered,” he reflected. “So potentially, mom and dad could be deceased, and maybe they had no brother or sister. So we’re reaching out further down the lineage to cousins. And a cousin may not even know that they had a family member that even went missing.”

Jellison said identifying the Fox Hollow victims presents a unique challenge.

He contrasted the case with the World Trade Center investigation, where records and missing-person reports gave investigators a clearer idea of who they were looking for. At Fox Hollow, investigators started with remains but few clues about their identities.

“I really believe that this investigation is more complicated in some ways than the World Trade Center,” he said. “With Fox Hollow, we’ve recovered these remains, but we have no idea who it is that we’re looking for.”

Jellison is urging anyone who believes a missing loved one could be connected to the case to contact his office. After the original documentary aired, his office received approximately 500 emails, phone calls, text messages and social media messages, Jellison said.
