Aston Villa Await £50m for Watkins as Liverpool Eye Alternatives; Brighton Holds Minteh at £80m and Grealish Talks Continue: Transfer Window Updates

0

Once again, the much-anticipated transfer window is officially open, remaining so until September 1. This period promises to be bustling with activity as football clubs race against time to strengthen their squads with strategic player signings ahead of the upcoming season.

For the latest updates, here’s what’s unfolding from the experts, Simon Jones and the Daily Mail Sport team…

Aston Villa expect Saudis to meet £50m Watkins asking price

Aston Villa is standing firm on their £50 million valuation for England’s forward Ollie Watkins, anticipating that Al Hilal will agree to their terms to finalize the deal.

Despite Al Hilal’s persistence, with four unsuccessful offers already, there is a rising sense of confidence within Villa’s camp that their transfer demands will ultimately be met.

Simultaneously, Villa is targeting Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson in a significant £65 million move, positioning him as Watkins’ likely successor.

All options open for Grealish as clock ticks down

Manchester City are leaving all options open to Jack Grealish as the window draws to a close.

The 30-year-old has returned to City’s first-team fold, appearing as substitute in their first two games.

He was on loan at Everton last season and their chief executive Angus Kinnear says they have remained in contact.

City have not ruled out a permanent sale. Nor have they ruled out another loan or an option to stay, though that could be with potentially limited game time.

Coach Enzo Maresca has not ruled out a move either, saying after Sunday’s win over Bournemouth: ‘He is here and it is my duty to coach Jack and to try to get the best. ‘Then it is one more week to go and we will see what happens. Not only with Jack but also other players.’

City’s Omar Marmoush is due to undergo his medical at Tottenham today and Nico Gonzalez is finalising his move to Newcastle.

City are signing Palmeiras winger Allan Elias while a City bid is expected to go in for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

As reported by Daily Mail Sport, Forest are also in talks over a £13.6m move including add ons for Corinthians midfielder Andre.

She shared with us so many melodies, so many lyrics, so many stories, so many jokes, so much laughter, so many iconic performances but most of all, so many shining examples of how to be a treasure of humanity,” Hathaway shared with fans.

She continued, “She more than deserves her rest, and now it’s up to us to do our best follow in her brilliant, adorable, one-of-a-kind, bedazzled footsteps so that we still feel that magic in our world. Dolly, you have always been one of my angels. I will always love you xx.”

She was such a wonderful woman,” the Beatles legend wrote via his website. “I first met her in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry where she had been playing with the country star Porter Wagoner and was about to start her solo career. She was so bubbly and full of life; it is difficult to take in the news that she has passed. Her songwriting, her singing and her philanthropy were unrivaled in the world of country music and it is hard to imagine living in a world without Dolly.”

He continued, “She was a very clever business woman who understood the value of her music and, most importantly, the effect that she had on the people of the world. There was no greater honor for me than to have her sing my song Let It Be and, even though I only made a small contribution to it, I am so honored that she did it. “Thanks, Dolly, for the beautiful music you gave me and the whole world. We will always love you, god bless and rest in peace. You were the best,” McCartney concluded.

She was probably the one person on planet Earth that everyone loved and could agree on. She was a one of one and no one will ever come close. It’s alright to be sad that this world lost a legend, but heaven gained an angel. Well done, good and faithful Dolly. Welcome home. ❤️🦋.”

“I keep having these conversations with Dolly in my head today, like I did back in those Nashville days at the Ryman until I actually finally got to meet her in 2022,” Connie Britton began her heartfelt message. “So today I’ve been telling her what an inspiration and godsend she has been to me and to so many.”
“And she says, ‘You know honey, God is in you. Know and love every part of yourself. Let it shine as only you can. Use everything you’ve been given, all that you’ve come from. And use it generously, for joy and honesty and fun and service.’ At least, yeah…that’s what she’s saying to me. Thank you Dolly.”

Tragic Alaska Plane Crash Claims Beloved Air Force Officer Known for Inspiring Leadership

0

In the wake of a tragic charter plane crash in remote western Alaska, the community mourns the loss of 23-year-old Air Force officer 2nd Lt. Leah R. Borsich. Described as a “positive leader” with a strong sense of purpose, Borsich was among eight victims in the heartbreaking accident last week.

The Air Force officially named 2nd Lt. Borsich on Monday as one of those lost in the crash near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, approximately 450 miles from Anchorage. As a dedicated project programmer with the 611th Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, her roles and responsibilities left a significant mark.

“Lt. Borsich was a beacon of positivity and leadership, infusing great energy and enthusiasm into our command,” stated Col. Timothy Meerstein, who heads the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center, reflecting on her impactful presence.

The Air Force identified 2nd Lt. Leah R. Borsich on Monday as one of the victims of the Aug. 20 crash near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport. (Facebook/ Leah Borsich)

Meerstein added, “Her leadership was marked by professionalism, compassion, and a sense of duty, fortifying the connections among her peers. Borsich left an indelible mark on our team, and her unwavering commitment and service to our nation will always be remembered with gratitude.”

The Cessna 441 was carrying two pilots and six passengers when it crashed west of Cape Newenham at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday. All eight people aboard were killed.

The charter plane had taken off from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and was headed to Cape Newenham when it crashed during its second approach to the gravel runway in heavy fog, according to federal officials.

The pilots could not see the runway and were flying by instruments, Clint Johnson, the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska region chief, said Friday. They aborted their first landing attempt because of poor visibility before crashing on the second approach.

An observation system near the airport reported fog and visibility of about 10 miles shortly before the crash. About 15 minutes later, visibility had fallen to less than a quarter-mile, according to the National Weather Service.

Search teams later found fragmented wreckage from the twin-engine plane, also known as a Cessna Conquest.

The Air Force said an Army member, contractors and crew members with Anchorage-based airplane charter company Security Aviation were also among those killed.

“We also mourn the loss of our Army and contractor teammates and extend our deepest appreciation to the Security Aviation aircrew, whose professionalism and dedication are vital to our mission,” Meerstein said. “Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.”

Security Aviation, which operated the flight, said it was “heartbroken” by the crash.

“Our hearts go out to the families, friends and loved ones of those who were lost,” the company said in a statement posted to Facebook. “We extend our deepest condolences to them and to everyone affected by this devastating tragedy.”

Security Aviation thanked the military, Alaska Rescue Coordination Center and search-and-recovery teams that responded after the crash. The company said it is cooperating with the investigation and would not speculate about the cause.

“Our focus at this time is on those who are grieving and on supporting our employees and others affected by this tremendous loss,” the company said.

In addition to the pilots, those aboard included two U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees and four contractors. Two of the contractors worked for Calista Brice, which provides construction, engineering, logistics and other services in remote areas.

The Army Corps said its employees were part of a “project delivery team en route to a project site in support of the U.S. Air Force.” Officials have not said what work the group was traveling to perform.

Cape Newenham is part of a network of remote radar sites that monitors aircraft operating in Alaska’s airspace and along its borders. The site, built in the 1950s as part of an early-warning network against a potential Soviet attack, now monitors the skies off Alaska’s coast in the direction of Russia, North Korea and China.

Borsich’s name was released after her family had been notified. The Alaska State Troopers will release the names of the victims who were not affiliated with the Department of War, the Air Force said.

Lt. Gen. Robert Davis, who leads Alaskan Command, the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region and Eleventh Air Force, previously described those aboard as “dedicated professionals carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment.”

“This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” Davis said after the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.

New York State Troopers reported that 19-year-old Peter B. Bonenfant and 72-year-old Philip F. Jacobus both lost their lives following a pre-dawn crash on Sunday. This unfortunate incident occurred on Route 28 in the Town of Olive, in Ulster County, just outside Kingston.

Bonenfant was behind the wheel of a 2024 Chevrolet traveling west when he unexpectedly crossed into the eastbound lane, leading to a collision with Jacobus’ 2021 Mercedes-Benz shortly before 6:50 a.m.

Emergency responders were quick to arrive, extricating both drivers from their vehicles. They were rushed to the HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, where Bonenfant succumbed to his injuries.

Jacobus, meanwhile, was transferred to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, located southeast of Kingston across the Hudson River, where, unfortunately, he too passed away, according to police reports.

Officials have launched an investigation and have not shared a reason for Bonenfant crossing into oncoming traffic.

Jacobus, a Kingston resident, was the founder and President of Owen Kane Holdings, a Wall Street-based medical equipment supplier.

He created and served as CEO of DOTmed, the “world’s leading public medical equipment marketplace.”

Jacobus, who had been in the medical industry since the 1970s, founded both companies in 1999 after working in both the People’s Republic of China and the Soviet Union, according to his biography.

Bonenfant, a 2025 Smithtown West graduate on Long Island, had committed to playing Division I lacrosse at Queens University of Charlotte.

Before the 2025 fall semester, Bonenfant decided against heading to North Carolina, instead choosing to stay closer to home and study to be an electrician, Newsday reported.

The teen was the adoptive son of Chris Bonenfant, a retired Suffolk County and NYPD officer, according to the outlet.

He was remembered for his bright personality and positive attitude.

“Peter Bonefant was only 19 years old, but in his short life, he had already made the kind of impression on people that lasts forever,” a GoFundMe set up for his family read. “He was the sort of person who could walk into a room and bring energy with him.

“Peter had a way of making people feel comfortable, welcome, and valued. To the people who knew him best, he was not simply a friend, a son, a brother, or a loved one—he was someone who made life brighter just by being part of it,” the memorial said.

Bonenfant was known for his love of cars as he featured several different vehicles he enjoyed working on across his social media accounts.

“Peter deserved more time. He deserved the chance to grow older, experience more of life, build more memories, and continue being there for the people he loved,” the GoFundMe read. “While we cannot change what happened, we can make sure that his memory is honored with the love and respect he deserves.”

Top 5 Military TV Shows That Outshine SEAL Team

“SEAL Team,” a gripping military action drama crafted by Benjamin Cavell for CBS and Paramount+, sustained an admirable seven-season journey from 2017 to 2024. With David Boreanaz at the helm and a supporting cast to match, the series provided a solid interpretation of the Navy SEALs lifestyle, echoing the success formula of the “NCIS” franchise. However, when it comes to the ultimate pinnacle of military television dramas, does “SEAL Team” top the list?

In truth, the answer leans towards no. Over the decades, the landscape of television has witnessed numerous military-themed series that arguably surpass “SEAL Team” in depth and vision. These shows often offer distinct and compelling narratives that challenge the conventional. For those eager to delve into superior military dramas, Looper has identified five standout series with Metacritic Metascores that confirm their excellence over “SEAL Team.”

Generation Kill

The unique strength of the miniseries format shines brightly in military storytelling. This structure enables a comprehensive narrative arc with a defined start, climactic peak, and conclusion, mirroring the tumultuous journeys of individuals embroiled in warfare—and the human experience at large.

HBO’s compelling “Generation Kill” draws inspiration from Evan Wright’s 2004 book of the same title. In this series, Wright’s experiences are brought to life by “Oz” star Lee Tergesen, portraying the journalist who embeds with a Marine battalion during the 2003 Iraq invasion. Led by Alexander Skarsgård as Sgt. “Iceman” Colbert, “Generation Kill” follows these First Recon Marines across foreign landscapes, offering an unvarnished look at wartime realities where routine absurdities often overshadow the chaos of battle.

With a Metacritic Metascore of 57 out of 100, “SEAL Team” isn’t what you’d call a critical darling. But the same can’t be said for “Generation Kill.” Dripping with detail, the 2008 series has earned rave reviews for its layered and realistic storytelling, and its 80 out of 100 Metascore proves its quality.

M*A*S*H

“M*A*S*H” is nothing like “SEAL Team,” but since our criteria is military shows that are objectively better than “SEAL Team,” its presence on the list is a given. Larry Gelbart’s CBS comedy-drama about a mobile surgical hospital during the Korean War is ostensibly a sitcom, but honestly, that’s not a very good classification given the amount of drama and overall bleakness that the show often focuses on.

The real strength of “M*A*S*H,” which ran for 11 seasons between 1972 and 1983, is its ability to juggle the light and the darkness, so the humor often comes across as the kind of coping mechanism that medical professionals at wartime might very well rely on in real life, too.

As the only “M*A*S*H” character to appear in every episode, Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda) is a prime example of such antics; While he’s a main character in a comedic show, in many ways he delivers a more realistic image of a military person dealing with an unfathomable situation than any “SEAL Team” character could ever hope to. As the 72 out of 100 Metacritic Metascore of “M*A*S*H” attests, the sheer quality of this long-running TV milestone has endured with generations of critics.

Masters of the Air

Another miniseries, John Shiban and John Orloff’s 2024 Apple TV bomber plane drama “Masters of the Air” offers an uncommon look into the horrors of World War II. Here, the U.S. Air Force 100th Bomb Group undertakes difficult missions deep into Germany, risking life and limb with every mile that they pilot their Flying Fortresses into enemy territory.

A companion piece to fellow military miniseries “Band of Brothers” (more on that one later) and “The Pacific,” the aviation-themed war show has a very decent Metascore of 72 out of 100, indicating a very entertaining watch. As with the aforementioned shows, “Masters of the Air” goes hard on both intensity and personal relationships. Since the show is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Donald L. Miller, many of the characters are based on real-life people, played by an all-star cast that features the likes of Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan, Callum Turner, and Ncuti Gatwa.

Strike Back

Out of all the shows on this list, “Strike Back” is the one that resembles “SEAL Team” the most, in that it’s an action drama that focuses on a small special unit that performs clandestine tasks on a global scale. Based on the book by former SAS operative Chris Ryan, the show’s centerpiece is a British military intelligence unit known as Section 20. Not unlike the “SEAL Team” characters, Section 20 is tasked with assorted dangerous and secretive missions in crisis points all around the world, with all the drama and action that accompanies such situations.

With eight seasons to watch spanning 2010 to 2020, “Strike Back” is also the closest comparison point to “SEAL Team” here in terms of sheer tenure. Granted, with just 10 episodes in an average season, the length of the seasons is quite a bit shorter, but there’s still plenty for a fan of the genre to enjoy — and a 71 out of 100 Metacritic score confirms that the show is worth your time.

Band of Brothers

When masterful military series are discussed, it would be a borderline crime to not include the best war TV show ever made: “Band of Brothers.” Co-created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, the 2001 HBO miniseries about the missions, victories, and tragedies of Easy Company during World War II is notable for its meticulous portrayal of the company’s path from training to deployment — and ultimately, playing a part in winning the conflict.

Based on Stephen E. Ambrose’s book of the same name, the “Band of Brothers” timeline is rife with detail, and many of its characters are based on real historical figures who fought in Easy Company or otherwise interacted with it. This touch of realism helps the viewer grow to care about these characters as they march toward their fate — or intensely dislike them, as “Friends” star David Schwimmer’s skilled turn as the profoundly unlikable Captain Herbert Sobel shows.

With a score of 87 out of 100 on Metacritic, “Band of Brothers” is a stellar example of what a military show can do when it has a huge story to tell and lots of space to do so. Being a miniseries, it never wears out its welcome. It does, however, constantly bring the viewer as close to the horrors and camaraderie of war as a TV show possibly can. Every military show fan owes it to themselves to watch “Band of Brothers” at least once.

Sculpt Your Waist With These 5 Simple Standing Exercises Faster Than Gym Workouts After 60

0

Struggling with a growing waistline after hitting 60? Forget lengthy gym sessions—embrace these five standing exercises to keep your core in check and active without leaving home.

>

Many believe that a widening waistline necessitates extended gym visits, yet the reality often suggests otherwise. Typical workouts miss the mark if they lack momentum. Standing exercises can energize your routine by keeping your core continuously engaged. This dynamic form of strength training is particularly effective for those over 60, as it addresses the issue with more intensity than traditional, slow abdominal exercises.

Maximize the benefits of this exercise style by ensuring movements remain athletic but manageable. Whether using a light dumbbell, a kettlebell, or opting for a gentle bodyweight move, these exercises elevate your effort without the hassle of complex equipment. Selecting repeatable movements with a smooth rhythm is essential to success.

In crafting waist-targeted regimens for those over 60, it’s crucial to encourage the midsection to do more than just flex forward. The goal is to have your abs stabilize, twist, and support as your body maneuvers through each movement. Begin with the most straightforward variations, gradually increasing speed as your technique improves.

Dumbbell Ski Swing

A good ski swing should feel quick, crisp, and driven from the hips. That’s why it works so well in a short waist-focused routine. Your core has to stay tight as the dumbbells swing, while your glutes and hamstrings create the power. Use light weights here. If the dumbbells start pulling you around, the movement loses the snap that makes it useful.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, abs, shoulders, upper back.

How to Do It

  1. Stand with your feet about hip-width apart and hold a light dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Let your arms hang by your sides.
  3. Push your hips back as your arms swing behind you.
  4. Drive your hips forward and swing the dumbbells up to chest height.
  5. Let the weights fall back down as you hinge again.
  6. Continue with a smooth, rhythmic pace.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 30 to 45 seconds.

Best Variations: Bodyweight ski swing, lighter dumbbell ski swing, slower ski swing.

Form Tip: Power the swing from your hips, not your lower back.

If You Can Hold a Plank This Long After 60, Your Core Strength Is Stronger Than 90% of Peers

Kettlebell High Pull

The high pull gives this routine a stronger strength-and-conditioning feel. Your legs start the rep, then the bell drives up close to the body as your upper back finishes the pull. I like this one for waist-thickening goals because the core has to keep the torso organized while the weight moves fast. Not to mention the full-body, dynamic effect it brings to the table. Keep the kettlebell lighter than you think at first and make each rep look sharp.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, shoulders, upper back, abs.

How to Do It

  1. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and place a kettlebell between your feet.
  2. Hinge at your hips and grip the kettlebell handle with both hands.
  3. Drive through your feet to stand tall.
  4. Pull the kettlebell up toward chest height.
  5. Keep your elbows higher than your hands at the top.
  6. Lower the bell with control and repeat.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps.

Best Variations: Dumbbell high pull, lighter kettlebell high pull, kettlebell deadlift to high pull.

Form Tip: Keep the bell close to your body as you pull.

Low-Impact Jumping Jack

Low-impact jumping jacks keep the workout moving without forcing you to jump. One foot stays on the floor, which makes the exercise easier to manage while still giving your heart rate a lift. A movement like this works well between weighted moves because you can keep the session lively and recover just enough to stay sharp. Think quick feet, tall posture, and steady breathing.

Muscles Trained: Calves, glutes, shoulders, abs, hips.

How to Do It

  1. Stand tall with your feet together and your arms by your sides.
  2. Step one foot out to the side.
  3. Raise both arms overhead as you step.
  4. Bring your foot back to the center.
  5. Lower your arms to your sides.
  6. Alternate sides at a steady pace.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 30 to 45 seconds.

Best Variations: Full jumping jack, slower step jack, arms-only jack.

Form Tip: Keep the movement light on your feet and stay tall through your chest.

4 Chair Exercises That Rebuild Hip Strength Faster Than Squats After 55

Dumbbell Wood Chop

Most people train the waist by curling forward, but the core also needs to control rotation. The dumbbell wood chop brings that job into a standing position. Your hips turn, your shoulders follow, and your obliques guide the weight across your body. Use a weight that lets the movement feel smooth. If you have to yank the dumbbell, go lighter. This exercise is rewarding when technique and effort are dialed in simultaneously.

Muscles Trained: Obliques, abs, shoulders, hips, glutes.

How to Do It

  1. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and hold one dumbbell with both hands.
  2. Bring the dumbbell toward the outside of one hip.
  3. Bend your knees slightly.
  4. Rotate your torso and lift the dumbbell across your body.
  5. Finish with the weight near the opposite shoulder.
  6. Return to the starting position and repeat before switching sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps per side.

Best Variations: Bodyweight wood chop, lighter dumbbell wood chop, slower wood chop.

Form Tip: Turn your hips and shoulders together so the movement doesn’t tug on your lower back.

Brooklyn Beckham Stands Up for Nicola Peltz After Online Criticism Over Dining Habits

0

Brooklyn Beckham has taken a strong stand against the critics of his wife Nicola Peltz, who have been making derogatory comments about her appearance.

In a recent exchange on his Instagram, where Brooklyn shares his culinary experiments, the 27-year-old confronted an individual who questioned, “Do you engage with everyone who worries about your wife and how frail she appears? She puts herself out there—why not feed her?”

Brooklyn, visibly angered by the comment, fired back, “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth. She is stunningly beautiful, and you should never pass judgment on a woman’s body. It’s utterly inappropriate.”

Brooklyn and Nicola, who have been married since 2022, reaffirmed their commitment to each other last year through a vow renewal, despite ongoing tensions with his family.

As the eldest offspring of David and Victoria Beckham, Brooklyn also addressed criticism of his homemade cottage pie on his cooking video, candidly admitting, “I’m no professional chef, folks.”

Brooklyn received plenty of advice with what he could do to improve the recipe as they branded it ‘watery’.

His followers told him the mince meat should be drained properly and needed to be cooled before the potato was added, while others said he needed to add a good sprinkling of cheese on top.

Fans wrote in the comments: ‘Mate this isn’t criticism it’s advice. The reason it’s sunk is because you need to wait for the mince to completely cool down before putting on your potato. Still a lovely dish though’;

‘You need to fry off all the liquid from your meat so you can brown it properly’; ‘Looks like your mash is too wet and your dish is too big. Try a shallow dish maybe a Pyrex dish might be better’; ‘I love when my meat pies are pure water…’;

Some were surprised Brooklyn decided to cut his potatoes with skin on and only remove the skin once he had boiled them.

They said: ‘Why would he not peel the potatoes before?’;

‘I had to look away when he started doing the potatoes’.

Responding to the comments, he wrote: 'I'm obviously not a professional chef haha. Just love cooking and eating. Love all the lovely comments'

Earlier this month, Brooklyn horrified fans by cooking a pasta dish using seawater during his stay on a luxury yacht.

The clip, which was originally shared last year, was reposted to TikTok, as the aspiring chef took the opportunity to promote his hot sauce Cloud 23 as he whipped up a tomato pasta dish.

But the eldest Beckham son immediately caused controversy as he dipped his saucepan in the sea to collect salty water to boil the pasta.

It seems Brooklyn was trying to trump his estranged dad David who also has a passion for cooking and even completed a culinary course during his spell at AC Milan.

Sir David told The Times in 2013: ‘Funnily enough, when I lived in Italy, I took a six-month culinary course at a professional chef’s school and learnt to make real ragu and fresh pasta.

‘I used to go there three times a week… I was obsessed with perfecting the risotto because it is difficult.’

Fans were left less than impressed by Brooklyn’s kitchen antics as they took to the comments, joking: ‘Pasta water with a hint of burnt boat fuel please sir’; ‘Bit dodgy the water’.

Another teased: ‘Hi, quick question. I haven’t got the sea in my back Garden. Will tap water do?’

Others poked fun at the simplicity of the dish as they added: ‘Brooklyn can you show me how to make a glass of water next?’; ‘Tomorrow I’m making corn flakes’.

It comes after reports Brooklyn and Nicola will reportedly no longer celebrate their first wedding due to the ‘bad memories it holds’.

Sources close to the couple have claimed their April 2022 wedding, that was attended by his family, is not an ‘occasion they look back on fondly’.

The couple officially tied the knot at a three-day extravaganza at the Peltz family Palm Beach estate in April 2022 in front of 500 guests.

They later renewed their vows in August last year – and pointedly did not invite the Beckham family.

In another swipe at his estranged parents, Brooklyn and Nicola will now see their secret second wedding as their ‘official’ anniversary.

Brooklyn failed to post a tribute to Nicola on their original anniversary this April, while Nicola has never marked the celebration.

Pointedly, the pair both marked their new anniversary in an Instagram post.

A source said: ‘Brooklyn and Nicola’s first wedding in April 2022 is not an occasion they look back on fondly. Nicola ended up in tears. It’s not something they want to be reminded of.

‘Their second wedding, where they renewed their vows last August with just her family and their friends, does hold so many happy memories however.

‘Going forwards, they’ve decided that this is the date they will celebrate publicly together,’ they added to The Sun.

The Daily Mail has approached Nicola, Brooklyn and the Beckhams for comment.

In Brooklyn’s scathing bombshell statement earlier this year, the eldest Beckham son explained that he and Nicola hosted a vow renewal without his family, as they wanted to ‘create new memories that bring us joy and happiness’ after Victoria ruined their wedding.

In his statement in January, Brooklyn detailed the ‘anxiety and embarrassment’ he felt when Victoria hijacked their first dance and called him ‘evil’ when she wasn’t seated at his table.

He wrote: ‘During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me ”evil” because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands.

‘Both of our parents had their own tables equally adjacent to ours. The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family.”

‘My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song.

‘In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.

‘She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.

‘We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.’

Unveiling the Mystery: The Scandalous Affairs and Control Allegations in Pastor’s Wife Mica Miller’s Tragic Demise

0

To the members of Solid Rock Church located in South Carolina, John Paul Miller and his wife, Mica Miller, seemed like the ideal couple.

They were deeply devoted to their faith, actively participating in ministry work and constantly involved in the Myrtle Beach community that they cherished as their spiritual home.

However, according to Mica’s friends and family, there was a troubling reality behind the couple’s public facade. The newly released Netflix docuseries Death of The Pastor’s Wife reveals allegations of abuse and control within the marriage, claims that John Paul has steadfastly denied.

The story took a tragic turn on April 27, 2024, when Mica was discovered dead in a North Carolina state park.

While authorities have consistently attributed her death to suicide, lingering questions about the circumstances of Mica’s life in those final months remain. What exactly led her to the park on that fateful day is still shrouded in mystery.

“We’re still in the stage of fighting,” her sister Sierra Francis remarked. “We are still fighting for Mica. We are still fighting for answers.”

Oxygen reached out John Paul’s attorney about the allegations raised in the docuseries, but did not receive an immediate reply.

Here’s everything to know about the tragic case and the circumstances behind Mica’s death:

Who Was Mica Miller?

As one of seven siblings, Mica grew up in Wichita, Kansas in a home focused on religion.

“Mica, out of I think all of us, was the most strong in her faith,” her sister Destinee Barrientos remembered in the docuseries. “Mica knew her purpose. Mica knew her calling.”

That calling only got stronger after the family moved to Myrtle Beach and Mica, then 13, began attending Solid Rock Church with her family. They were quickly introduced to the church’s charismatic pastor John Paul Miller, who was married with children of his own.

The family joined the choir where Mica—known for her beautiful voice—became a stand out.

“She loved singing,” her brother Nate Francis said. “She was just extremely talented.”

Mica turned to the church and scripture for solace when her mom and stepfather got divorced, becoming the worship leader in charge of the choir at just 16.

“After the divorce, Mica made church her lifestyle,” her sister Anna Francis explained. “She just kind of took it to like a whole new level.”

Mica Miller and John Paul Miller’s Relationship Began With Scandalous Affair

It was there she met Jeremy, another teen church member, and the two fell in love. They got engaged when Mica was 18 and married on Sept. 29, 2012 with John Paul officiating, according to the docuseries.

After the wedding, she began working at the church as John Paul’s assistant.

“Mica was so heavily influenced by John Paul,” her sister Sierra Francis explained in Death of the Pastor’s Wife. “Because, he was 15 years older than her. He was her pastor. He was her mentor. He was her church leader.”

Three years into her marriage, Sierra said John Paul began texting Mica and complimenting her looks, until their relationship ultimately turned physical. The affair—which was also recounted in an affidavit by John Paul’s first wife Alison Williams—rocked the small church community and ended both John Paul and Mica’s marriages. John Paul begged his followers for forgiveness, giving emotional sermons and writing a letter to parishioners, according to the docuseries.

“All hell broke loose at the church,” Nate recalled. “John Paul kept on reaching out to me. He would apologize. My ears were almost popping I was getting so mad.”

In time, however, the congregation forgave the indiscretion and embraced the new couple.

Friends and Family Describe Red Flags in Mica Miller and John Paul Miller’s Relationship

But by then, friends and family had also noticed some troubling signs in the relationship.

Mica had John Paul’s signature tattooed on her body and there were frequent rumors of John Paul’s infidelity. Her family also believed John Paul encouraged Mica to get breast implants.

“I think he made my sister feel like she wasn’t beautiful enough,” Nate shared in the docuseries. “And so, she had to get this operation done to be the perfect woman in his eyes.”

John Paul denied the claims in an affidavit filed in the Horry County Probate Court, obtained by FITSNews, insisting Mica elected to have the procedure,

According to her family, after the surgery, she had a reaction to the sedatives and began to spiral.

John Paul described it to her family, according to the docuseries, as psychotic episodes and had her committed to a mental institution.

“It was out of our hands,” her sister Anna said. “We could not do a single thing.”

Medical records obtained by Netflix described Mica as making “delusional and hyper religious statements.”

Though her family said she had no prior mental health issues, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and John Paul became responsible for her care. A toxicology report from the North Carolina medical examiner’s office would also later list bipolar disorder among her diagonses, per The Sun News.

Six days after being released from the hospital, John Paul and Mica got married in December 2017.

“We had to pretend that everything was happy, normal,” her sister-in-law Victoria Francis said. “That nothing was wrong. They were just in love and they wanted to get married.”

Mica Miller’s Friends, Family Allege Marriage Was Abusive

Mica’s friends and family said the problems only amplified as the marriage went on—claims that John Paul vehemently denied to ABC 11.

“Never once in any way shape or form. Not any type of abuse. Not physical. No type of abuse ever. I took better care of her than any man could have possibly taken care of her in every way,” he said. “She never had to cook a single meal, she never had to clean not one time, she never had to work, all she had to do was take her medicine and enjoy her life.”

Meanwhile, Mica’s family described John Paul having a voracious appetite for sex, demanding sex daily to keep his eye from wandering.

“Ladies, wives, if you don’t meet your husband’s sexual needs,” he preached in one sermon replayed in the docuseries, “Satan will put 20 different options before his eyes before the days over with.”

To keep up with his demand, friends alleged in the docuseries that John Paul began giving Mica testosterone, even though it damaged her voice.

During one fight between the couple, after Mica allegedly sought refuge at her sister’s house, he texted “I’m coming to u. Ur a horrible wife to do this,” then threatened, “When I arrive I’m going to raise HELL,” according to text messages shared in the docuseries.

“I’m armed,” he allegedly wrote in another message to her sister. “I’m ready.”

Though they called police, John Paul never came to the house and Mica opted not to press charges, instead choosing to reunite with her husband.

“I hurt for John Paul because I know he deserves more,” Mica wrote in her journal at one point, according to the Netflix series. “He deserves an on-fire, enthusiastic wife who loves him and God and is talented and always is his biggest cheerleader. I want to be that so bad.”

Mica’s biblical counselor Laura Hucks also described seeing signs “she was not free to be herself.”

Rumors also began to circulate that John Paul was having an affair with a recently widowed parishioner.

Despite the family’s allegations, John Paul described himself to  The Sun News as “the best husband.”

“The one thing I have great peace about between me, God and my wife is that I was the best husband I could possibly be,” he told the outlet in 2024, “and if I would’ve done it over again I don’t think I could have done it any better.”

He has accused her family, according to The Sun News, of convincing her not to take her medication, causing her mental health to spiral—claims they have denied.

John Paul Miller Accused of Cyberstalking Mica Miller After She Left Relationship

Eventually, Mica reached her breaking point and decided to leave the relationship, but friends, family and federal prosecutors said that John Paul wasn’t so willing to let his wife go.

From Nov. 2022 until her death in April 2024, federal prosecutors said John Paul sent his wife “unwanted and harassing communications”—allegations he is currently fighting in court.

“The harassing behavior included [John Paul] Miller posting a nude photo of the victim online without her consent, causing tracking devices to be placed on her vehicle, and in one instance, contacting her over 50 times in a single day,” federal prosecutors noted in a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of South Carolina. “The indictment also alleges he interfered with her finances and her daily activities and on one occasion damaged her vehicle tires.”

Mica’s sister Sierra alleged in an affidavit filed in court and obtained by The Sun News, that Mica believed she was being followed before her death and feared for her life, allegedly telling Sierra “if I end up with a bullet in my head, it was not by me, it was JP [John Paul].”

What Happened to Mica Miller?

Two days after John Paul was served divorce papers on April 25, 2024,  Mica’s life came to a tragic end in what the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office would later conclude was a suicide.

According to the timeline laid out by authorities, after leaving her Myrtle Beach apartment at 11:38 a.m., Mica drove to Dick’s Pawn Shop, where she was seen in surveillance footage purchasing a handgun. At 1:27 p.m., she was spotted in surveillance footage arriving at a Conway convenience store were she purchased a drink and gas.

She then drove to North Carolina’s Lumber River State Park, where she placed a 911 call at 2:54 p.m.

“The caller asked the dispatcher if her phone could be located because she was going to kill herself and wanted her family to be able to find her body,” the sheriff’s office said. “During the conversation with the dispatcher, the caller hung up the phone and the dispatcher was unable to contact the caller.”

Her body was later found in the water after a fisherman reported hearing someone crying and then a gunshot, authorities said. The gun was found nearby.

According to the sheriff’s office, a search of her phone revealed she had searched for “national parks near me” before her death.

The next day, John Paul shared the news with his congregation.

“My wife has passed away. Yeah, and it was it was self-induced, and it was up in North Carolina, and we’re gonna have a funeral for her next Sunday,” he said in a recording of the service replayed in the docuseries. “Y’all knew that she wasn’t well mentally, and that she needed medicine that was hard to get to her, and so I’m sure there’ll be more details to come.”

Mica Miller’s Family Raises Concerns About Her Death

After her death, her family has raised concerns about the details of her final moments, suggesting that she may have met with foul play. The sheriff’s office has always contended the death was a suicide.

“I feel like Mica was lured to where she was found,” Victoria explained in the docuseries. “I just have a gut instinct that she did not do this to herself.”

John Paul has repeatedly denied playing any role in her death.

“Following the untimely death of Mica Miller, unfounded rumors and false accusations began circulating on social media and in various media outlets, suggesting Pastor Miller’s involvement in her demise,” his attorney Russell Long said in a statement to WPDE. “This created a buzz, causing local and national media outlets to begin proliferating these falsehoods, on a mammoth proportion. Our client refutes any report that suggests he ever abused his wife.”

John Paul’s attorney also pointed to Mica’s past mental health struggles.

“It has come to light that Mica Miller struggled with mental illness, specifically bipolar disorder, which, when not properly managed, led to paranoid episodes and self-destructive behavior,” the statement continued. “Again, Mica suffered from mental illness and some reports made by her in the recent past are nonsensical. This unfortunate reality underscores the importance of destigmatizing mental health issues and ensuring those affected receive appropriate support and treatment.”

As part of their investigation, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that on the day of Mica’s death, John Paul was with a “female that he is allegedly romantically involved with” and that neither were in North Carolina.

They concluded that Mica’s death was a tragic suicide.

“This incident has garnered much attention from across the Carolinas and beyond,” Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said at the time. “I want to assure everyone that a very methodical investigation was conducted by our Criminal Investigations Team and Crime Scene Investigative Team.”

Still, in the years since Mica’s death, the case has gone viral as a #JusticeForMica campaign was launched.

John Paul Miller Faces Federal Charges

John Paul was never charged in connection to his wife’s death. However, federal prosecutors did charge him in December 2025 with cyberstalking in the months leading up to her death and making false statements to federal investigators. He has pleaded not guilty to the allegations against him.

In an indictment obtained by Oxygen, federal prosecutors allege John Paul used computers, electronic devices or other methods to cyberstalk Mica, putting her “in reasonable fear of death and serious bodily injury” and causing “emotional distress” before her death.

If convicted, John Paul faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison for cyberstalking and two years in prison for the false statement charges.

After continuing an August court hearing, he is now expected to appear in court for a hearing on the charges in October, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office told Oxygen.

Where is John Paul Miller Now?

In the meantime, John Paul’s life has continued to move forward. One year after Mica’s death, John Paul remarried in 2025 in a beachside wedding ceremony, FITSNews reported.

As membership at his church continued to dwindle, Solid Rock Ministries Inc, eventually sold the church and land to a development group for $2.1 million, The Sun News reported in February.

At the time, John Paul pointed to the intense national attention in Mica’s case for leading to the church’s decline.

“The city of (Myrtle Beach) did not come through for us, they did not protect us, they did not stop the harassment,” Miller told the outlet via text of frequent protesters. “So after 70 years of that chapel being protected from category 5 hurricanes, wars, and redevelopment, it will now be torn down and have condos built in its place, thanks to the city of (Myrtle Beach).”

The Sun News reported in 2025 that the pastor continues to preach for a new congregation at Mercy Church.

Mica’s family is leading efforts to get a new law on coercive control, known as Mica’s Law, passed in South Carolina in her honor.

Atiku Vows to Reinstate Subsidy if Elected

In a bold assertion of his political agenda, Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress’s presidential hopeful, has once again pledged to reinstate the petrol subsidy if he secures the presidency in 2027. This declaration comes amid efforts to dissociate his stance from recent remarks made by his media aide, Paul Ibe.

During a meeting on Tuesday with the Osun State leadership of the ADC in Abuja, Atiku emphasized the consistency of his views on the subsidy issue, distancing himself from any narrative that suggests otherwise.

He stated unequivocally, “I want to repeat categorically that when I said I would return to subsidy, I will!” While asserting his authority, Atiku made it clear that Ibe’s comments did not reflect his official standpoint.

Atiku explains proposed subsidy plan

Previously, Ibe had announced on AIT that Atiku’s administration would initially reinstate the petrol subsidy before gradually eliminating it, once economic conditions permitted a stable transition.

Yet, Atiku’s camp sought to highlight a critical nuance, explaining that this proposed move would not replicate the old import-dependent subsidy framework. Instead, it aims to be a refined approach adapted to the nation’s evolving economic landscape.

According to Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the policy would involve a targeted, capped and transparently budgeted intervention supporting domestic refining and production.

Atiku said, “A nation as blessed as ours has no business abandoning its citizens to hardship.”

The proposal would reportedly involve supplying crude oil to local refiners at discounted prices, with the aim of reducing production costs and, ultimately, petrol and diesel prices.

Subsidy debate returns ahead of 2027

The renewed debate comes after President Bola Tinubu removed petrol subsidy at his inauguration on May 29, 2023, contributing to a sharp rise in fuel prices and wider living costs.

Atiku has argued that Nigerians need relief from high transport, food and production costs, while the Federal Government has defended subsidy removal as necessary for economic reform.

His latest position places the subsidy debate firmly back at the centre of the 2027 presidential contest, with Atiku presenting his proposal as a temporary production-support measure rather than a return to the former import-driven system.

Lawyers for Tyler Robinson Push to Ban Cameras at Sept. 1 Hearing, Insist Case Isn’t ‘Reality TV

Robinson’s defense team is urging the judge to prohibit cameras from his upcoming September 1 hearing. They argue that televised coverage risks turning the legal proceedings into a spectacle akin to a “reality TV show.”

“The presence of cameras in the courtroom serves as a distraction and puts undue pressure on participants to perform for the media, rather than concentrate on the facts and mechanics of the hearing,” stated Robinson’s attorneys, Kathy Nester, Michael Burt, Richard Novak, and Staci Visser, in a Saturday court filing. They emphasized, “Mr. Robinson’s case should not be sensationalized into reality television.”

The defense contends that live broadcasts and images from the hearing might prejudice the public against Robinson by prematurely revealing evidence which might ultimately be inadmissible at trial.

“Specific to the oral argument on the preliminary hearing, the EMC (electronic media coverage) will memorialize and widely disseminate argument discussing the largely hearsay based evidentiary presentation made by the State,” the lawyers wrote. “Such evidence is, by its very nature, insufficiently reliable for admission at trial.”

Both of the filings also included redacted paragraphs after Robinson’s lawyers alleged that, “Additional evidence of bias developing as a result of the widespread publication of this case can be tracked in real time.”

The defense also claimed that witnesses who provided statements that were admitted as “reliable hearsay” ahead of the week-long July preliminary hearing “experienced harassment by media and interested third parties.”

Robinson is the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, 31, at a Turning Point USA event in Orem, Utah, last year. Kirk was shot and killed while speaking to a crowd of thousands at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025.

Separately, a source close to the Kirk family said Tuesday that Kirk’s widow Erika, and his parents, Rob and Kathy, all plan to attend the Sept. 1 hearing together as they did during the July hearing.

Judge Tony Graf Jr. will hear oral arguments from both sides regarding the evidence introduced in July and will decide whether there’s enough probable cause to justify sending Robinson to trial on the charges against him.

Robinson’s defense objected to hearsay evidence from the preliminary hearing and also opposes the sole aggravating factor in the aggravated murder charge that carries the potential death penalty — that Robinson allegedly put other people at great risk of death by shooting Kirk in a crowded place.

The defense argued that only a single shot was fired, from an elevated position. It traveled over the crowd, rather than through it, and it only struck Kirk.

Prosecutors countered that Robinson was a bad shot, one who “seldom hit the bullseye and sometimes misses the target completely” when practicing shooting with the suspected murder weapon.

Robinson, 23, has not yet entered a plea.
