Tamra Judge Reacts to RHOC Reboot Buzz After Andy Cohen’s Hint

Tamra Judge Addresses RHOC “Reboot” Rumor as She Reacts to Andy Cohen’s Cryptic Response, Plus Calls Out Emily and Gina for Creating “Unnecessary Drama”

Tamra Judge is weighing in on speculation that Real Housewives of Orange County could be headed for a major “reboot” featuring her and Heather Dubrow. The longtime Housewife also addressed Andy Cohen’s notably vague response to the casting rumors and criticized Emily Simpson and Gina Kirschenheiter for creating what she called “unnecessary drama.”

During the season finale, Jenn revealed that Emily and Gina had both suggested Tamra may have formed a friendship with her this season as a way to get closer to—or take aim at—Heather.

The RHOC casting speculation gained momentum after a fan asked Andy whether the rumored reboot was actually happening. One report claimed Tamra, Heather and Gina could remain full-time cast members, while Shannon might be shifted to a “friend of” role. Andy said the series was due for a “refresh,” but offered only “we’ll see” when questioned about a potential overhaul similar to the Real Housewives of New York reboot.

“There’s been a lot of rumors about Orange County and casting and [how] it’s gonna be cast around me and Heather … [and] Gina and a friend,” Tamra said on Two Ts in a Pod, according to @mrhousewives on Instagram. “Another [rumor] is they’re putting us on pause, there’s gonna be a New Jersey [type] shakeup. There’s gonna be a reboot, so many rumors out there.”

Tamra insisted that the cast has not been given any confirmation about those reports. “We’ve never heard any of that,” she said. “Nobody knows what the future is … but that’s not different than any other season. After every season, we have some downtime. And then after the first year, it will happen. Do I think that we need changes? Absolutely.”

She added that no one at Bravo would be responsible for “spreading a rumor” about the show’s next cast before turning her attention to Andy’s cryptic comments.

“Because of the way that [Andy] answered … people are like, ‘Oh that means it’s happening. That means it’s happening,’” Tamra explained. “It [really] just means we’re not talking about it. That’s what it means.”

Tamra also replied to an Instagram fan who questioned why Emily and Gina appeared to accuse her of having an ulterior motive involving Heather.

“You and me both,” Tamra wrote back. “Made zero sense at all. Unnecessary drama.”

Why Sam Carver, Played by Jake Lockett, Left Chicago Fire

Over the years, Chicago Fire has parted ways with plenty of beloved characters, but some exits have resonated more deeply than others. Jake Lockett’s departure is one of them. The actor joined the NBC drama in Season 11 as the warmhearted, charismatic firefighter Sam Carver, only to leave at the conclusion of Season 13 in 2025. Daniel Kyri, who had played Darren Ritter since Season 7, exited the series at the same time as the show prepared for a leaner Season 14. That has left fans wondering why Carver’s time at Firehouse 51 came to an end.

The most widely suspected explanation is a cost-cutting strategy by Wolf Entertainment and NBC ahead of the official renewals for the One Chicago franchise, according to Deadline. Similar changes have reportedly affected other Wolf Entertainment productions on NBC. On Law & Order: SVU, for example, longtime favorite Ice-T has appeared less frequently amid financial restrictions. Fans of Chicago P.D. also faced a major shock when LaRoyce Hawkins left the series at the start of Season 14 after appearing since its debut. Deadline could not confirm that Lockett’s exit was directly tied to budget concerns, and NBC, Universal TV and Wolf Entertainment all declined to comment. Still, the timing and broader pattern of cast turnover make finances the most plausible explanation.

The situation was further complicated by the fact that contracts for several veteran Chicago Fire actors were nearing renewal. With multiple deals coming up for discussion, the network and production companies were likely forced to reassess which cast members were essential to the show’s future and which characters could be written out.

Sam Carver returned to Firehouse 51 for a short visit

Carver’s storyline provided Chicago Fire with an emotional reason for his departure. Throughout Season 13, he battled to maintain his sobriety while growing closer to Violet Mikami, played by Hanako Greensmith. In the season finale, Carver explains that he plans to transfer to a firehouse in Denver, Colorado, because he fears remaining in Chicago could jeopardize his recovery. Before leaving, he and Violet admit they love each other, giving the couple a heartfelt farewell while also leaving viewers hoping their story was not truly over.

Although Carver was no longer part of the regular cast when Season 14 began, Lockett returned for a guest appearance in Episode 11. He travels back to Chicago to help bring a paramedic training initiative created by Violet to his Denver firehouse, giving the former couple a chance to reconnect. Their chemistry is still evident, but Violet has begun a relationship with Sal Vasquez, portrayed by Brandon Larracuente, making the reunion more complicated. Even so, she is relieved to discover that Carver is doing well and continuing to thrive in recovery.

Carver leaves Chicago once again at the end of the episode, and he has not returned to the series since. His story, however, may not be finished. Speaking with TVLine in 2025, Season 14 showrunner Andrea Newman addressed the departures of Lockett and Daniel Kyri, saying there was still plenty to explore with both characters. She added that the show hoped to deliver meaningful surprises, goodbyes and possibly future reunions. For fans of Sam Carver, that leaves the door open for Jake Lockett to make another appearance on Chicago Fire down the line.

Maya Jama Transforms Into British Olympic Champion Sir Mo Farah

0

Maya Jama was almost unrecognisable on Saturday night as she swapped her usual glamorous look for a Sir Mo Farah-inspired costume at her Halloween party in London.

The 32-year-old Love Island presenter narrowly missed out on victory in Celebrity Traitors after the Faithfuls exposed her during Friday’s dramatic grand finale.

However, Maya refused to let her banishment dampen her spirits. She took to Instagram to give followers a first glimpse of her costume ahead of her seventh annual Halloween celebration.

The television star revealed that she had been loaned Sir Mo’s Olympic kit, along with the athlete’s genuine medals, for the special occasion.

She replaced her trademark long, dark hair with a bald cap and completed the transformation with facial hair and a full beard.

Maya looked remarkably like the 43-year-old sporting legend, who is the most successful British track athlete in Olympic history and the most decorated male distance runner of all time.

Sir Mo secured his place in sporting history with his famous ‘double-double’, winning gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at consecutive Olympic Games in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016.

Maya captioned the post: ‘This year I wanted to pay homage to @sirmofarah, our Olympic champ and all-round legend (and I think we look alike lowkey)

‘HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! Can’t wait to skin out tonight   & thank you Mo for sending your actual Olympic outfit and real medals, hero!!! Let’s party’.

Fans rushed to praise the unexpected costume in the comments, writing: ‘This is epic’ and ‘Oh my GOD!!!!!!! Girl, you are so unpredictable and I love it’

Another admirer simply commented: ‘So good’.

The Halloween transformation comes as Maya is reportedly being lined up for even more high-profile opportunities.

She remains a familiar face on ITV as the host of Love Island, but sources claim the BBC is now hoping to lure her away with a series of major television offers.

Maya’s Celebrity Traitors journey ended in disappointment when she was banished from the castle during the final roundtable, costing her the chance of victory.

But the star won over viewers with her time as a cloaked villain on the show, as she didn’t shy away from showing her ruthless streak when it came to the famous murders.

Insiders said that they hope to tempt Maya back to the BBC with a big TV offer, as she started her career on the channel as a presenter on Radio 1.

A source said: ‘The Celebrity Traitors has seen Maya take centre stage in a show watched by a massive mainstream audience — and that’s something she’s never had before.’

They went on to tell The Sun: ‘Beeb execs have been observing her closely and think she has a great mix of intelligence, glamour, confidence and a sense of humour that will make her the perfect choice to front big shows.

‘So they’re already looking at projects that would fit the bill — but they’ll face some resistance from ITV who very much view her as being firmly in their roster of talent.’

The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Maya Jama for comment.

Maya launched her career on the BBC, first as a radio DJ, and then as co-host of the show Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer, and the competition series Glow Up.

She then took over as host of Love Island in 2023, and has also appeared as a judge on The Masked Singer.

Despite her memorable appearance on Celebrity Traitors, Maya failed to turn up to a special recording of Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked on Friday.

Following last night’s final, in which Faithfuls Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian Croft were crowned the winners, the cast reunited in London for the finale special of Uncloaked, hosted by Ed Gamble.

But Maya was conspicuously absent, with Ed telling the audience she was ‘away filming’ and ‘sends her apologies’.

She is currently filming series three of Guy Ritchie’s drama The Gentlemen, but she could also have been absent due to her busy Halloween schedule; Maya is believed to be putting the final touches together for her annual party tonight, which is always attended by celebrity royalty.

She had a brief role in series two, in what was her scripted acting debut, but impressed bosses at Netflix so much that they invited her back for a longer run.

In the castle, the Love Island host had managed to stay under the radar alongside fellow Traitor King Kenny, 29, until Thursday’s episode, which saw third Traitor James Acaster voted out after revealing his identity to the Faithful.

The shock move came after James, 41, who had not wanted to be a Traitor, became anxious in an off-screen moment which caused filming to be paused.

James was also absent from Friday’s Uncloaked.

Following his banishment, the remaining Faithfuls turned their attention to other previously unsuspected celebrities, and ultimately voted out both Maya and Kenny during last night’s episode.

A series of tense banishments left just Romesh and Sebastian, known as Bash, who scooped up £41,500 each for their chosen charities – The Refugee Council and Choose Love respectively.

The episode was watched by a peak audience of 11.6 million viewers.

Immediately after their win aired, the Uncloaked episode got underway, which saw the cast and Claudia reunite outside the castle to debrief the series.

As conversation turned to Maya, Ed said: ‘OG traitor Maya is away filming and sends her apologies, she can’t be here tonight.’

Her absence came just a day before she hosts her much anticipated Halloween party, which has previously attracted the best of British showbusiness and sees Maya don an elaborate costume each year.

Mary Peltola, AOC-Backed Senate Hopeful, Faces N-Word Accusation

0

Mary Peltola, the Alaska Democrat running for the US Senate with high-profile backing from “Squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is denying claims from former staff members that she used the n-word.

Peltola, 53, is taking on Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan in a closely watched Alaska contest that could have implications for control of the Senate.

The allegation reportedly stems from a dinner held in October 2024 to honor nearly 4,000 Black soldiers. At the time, Peltola was serving as Alaska’s representative in the US House.

Peltola is in a critical race that could determine the balance of power on Capitol Hill. REUTERS

Federal Election Commission records show Peltola’s campaign paid $8,000 for tables at the gathering. Ed Wesley, a Black Army veteran and promoter of the event, had reportedly told her the seats would be filled.

After the turnout fell short, Peltola allegedly reacted angrily, according to accounts cited by Alaska Landmine.

“I can’t believe that n—-r,” an unnamed former staffer allegedly recalled Peltola saying. The former aide also claimed that Peltola repeatedly called Wesley, who previously led the Anchorage NAACP, a “scammer.”

Peltola’s campaign strongly rejected the accusation in comments to The Post, describing it as “part of a smear campaign driven by an unstable, disgruntled former staffer who was fired.”

“Mary would never use this word, which is a vile slur with a painful, hateful history,” a campaign spokesperson said.

The accusation follows earlier claims that Peltola had angry outbursts, used other offensive slurs — including “retard” and “f—t” — and once shoved a male employee.

In January, Ocasio-Cortez put her national fundraising network behind Peltola, urging supporters to contribute to the Alaska Democrat’s campaign.

Peltola was the sole Democrat endorsed by the National Rifle Association in 2024. During her time in the House, from 2022 through 2025, she pressed the Biden administration to support Arctic drilling and highlighted her role in securing approval for ConocoPhillips’ disputed $8 billion Willow oil project.

National Democrats have portrayed Peltola’s recruitment as a major political win as the party works to gain Senate seats in the 2026 midterm elections.

Peltola has already won statewide office and is viewed as a formidable candidate. Still, polling indicates a tight contest, with the latest survey giving her only a 2-point advantage over Sullivan.

Ocasio-Cortez did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Clyburn Adviser Pushes Back: ‘This Is Not Abdul’s Event’

0

Rep. Jim Clyburn’s (D-SC) office pushed back Saturday after reports that Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign had asked Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) not to attend his events. Clyburn’s team said Stevens was still welcome at a Sunday church appearance in Detroit.

“This is not Abdul’s event,” Clyburn adviser Antjuan Seawright told the New York Times. “The invitation still stands.”

Clyburn and Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) had worked to arrange a meeting between the two Democrats following several days of public clashes over Israel and antisemitism.

According to the New York Times and Politico, El-Sayed’s campaign told Stevens to avoid the rest of his scheduled events.

Seawright also told the Wall Street Journal that both Democrats remained invited. He said Clyburn was focused on mobilizing voters rather than siding with either candidate in their dispute.

Clyburn told the Times on Saturday that he was unsure whether Stevens would attend the church appearance.

The conflict comes as El-Sayed faces Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers in a tight Michigan Senate race. Reuters reported that the campaign’s request could deepen divisions among Democrats just days before an election that may help determine control of the Senate.

Stevens narrowly fell to El-Sayed in the August primary but endorsed him after the contest. The two appeared together at party unity events soon after the election.

CNN reported Wednesday that Stevens and El-Sayed had not spoken in months, though their campaign organizations continued communicating. Stevens had offered to assist, and several former members of her campaign staff went on to join El-Sayed’s team.

The dispute centers on a Rebellion PAC advertisement that connected U.S. military aid to Israel with funding shortages for domestic priorities. Stevens and other critics denounced the ad as antisemitic. El-Sayed’s campaign said it was not involved, while the group’s Cenk Uygur defended the spot as a critique of government spending, not Jewish people.

Stevens said Friday that she accepted Clyburn’s invitation after Democratic intermediaries told her El-Sayed would condemn the advertisement. She also sought an apology for comments he made linking aid to Israel with shortfalls in domestic funding. In addition, she called on him to take down another campaign ad that used footage of Tucker Carlson criticizing Rogers. Carlson was not serving as an El-Sayed surrogate.

El-Sayed accused Stevens of “relitigating a primary that ended three months ago” and urged Democrats to concentrate on defeating Rogers. On Saturday, he said he disagreed with the Rebellion PAC advertisement but did not directly say whether he wanted Stevens at Sunday’s church appearance. Instead, he said he wanted to focus on campaign issues, including political spending, health care, and household costs.

Stevens’s fiancé, Jason Turkish, said he plans to vote for Rogers because of concerns about El-Sayed’s rhetoric regarding Israel and Jewish safety. Stevens, however, has said she will vote for El-Sayed.

Man Arrested for Burglary After Entering Stranger’s Pool Enclosure

0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alex James McGlothlin, 42, was taken into custody early Thursday after authorities said he entered a screened pool area in the fenced backyard of an Avalon residence.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies were called at approximately 1:28 a.m. on October 31 after a woman reported seeing an unfamiliar man looking at her through the home’s back door. She told deputies the man was inside the pool enclosure in her fenced backyard.

Deputies established a perimeter around the property and soon heard a man’s voice coming from the backyard. After the woman confirmed no one was authorized to be there, deputies located McGlothlin lying on a trampoline.

According to deputies, McGlothlin claimed the home belonged to his aunt.

When officers told him to leave the trampoline and lie on the ground, McGlothlin got down but allegedly refused to follow the second command. He slowly moved away from deputies, then ran toward the backyard fence.

A deputy deployed a Taser, causing McGlothlin to fall. He reportedly tried to stand again, prompting a second Taser deployment. McGlothlin then followed the deputies’ commands.

During a search after his arrest, deputies found a folding pocketknife in the front pocket of McGlothlin’s clothing.

Once McGlothlin was detained, the woman told deputies that a security camera notification had alerted her to activity near the back door. When she looked outside, she saw a white man staring through the window from inside the pool enclosure. She said he asked her for water, and she responded by shaking her head. The man then moved beside the door and appeared to hide in the corner before walking farther into the backyard and out of her view.

McGlothlin faces charges of armed burglary, resisting an officer without violence and prowling. Authorities said he has no local criminal history, while his complete record was unavailable because those documents are not posted on weekends. Judge Adam Lee ordered McGlothlin held without bail while the State Attorney’s Office seeks to keep him jailed without bail through trial. If that request is denied, the judge will determine bail at the hearing.

Alabama Shooting After Magic City Classic Leaves 1 Dead, 8 Injured

0

One person was killed and eight others injured in a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday evening after the Magic City Classic college football game, authorities said.

Birmingham police said officers arrived shortly after 7:50 p.m. in the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West, near Legion Field, and found nine people suffering from gunshot wounds.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A second person was in critical condition, while the seven remaining victims were listed as stable.

Authorities have not named a suspect, and no arrests had been reported.

Police said multiple firearms were recovered at the scene.

The shooting occurred outside Legion Field after the game between the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs and the Alabama State University Hornets. The two historically Black universities meet annually in Birmingham for the Magic City Classic.

The event attracts more than 100,000 fans to the city each year, according to its website, and includes a parade and extensive pregame tailgating alongside the football matchup.

Officials canceled all remaining tailgating activities after the shooting.

Police are urging anyone who recorded video or has information about the incident to contact authorities.

Why a Scientist Chose to Sleep With Bedbugs for Five Years

0

For most people, the thought of bedbugs is enough to trigger an instant shudder.

But one scientist has spent the past five years deliberately sleeping alongside the insects—and says their bites no longer bother him.

Entomologist Dr Richard Naylor raises about 60,000 bedbugs to evaluate pest-control products from around the world. He has also volunteered himself as the products’ human test subject.

Twice a week, Dr Naylor gives the insects what he calls a “feeding day”. He secures some of the bugs to his arm, lets them bite him and carries on working while they feed.

When he needs to assess new devices or bedbug repellents, he also spends a night in a bed containing the insects.

‘I must have been bitten millions of times by now, so I stopped reacting a long time ago. I get a red patch on my arm after the bugs have fed, but it disappears after about half an hour,’ he said.

‘If there is no one sleeping in a bed, the bedbugs just sleep; they just go on standby. And so I can’t test anything in the test bedrooms without there being a host in there.’

The researcher operates the non-profit Bed Bug Foundation from a two-bedroom suite in the garden of his home in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

The insects are kept inside the walls of the self-contained laboratory, where Dr Naylor helps companies evaluate products before they reach the market.

The bedbugs are also bred and shipped around the world, frequently to canine detection teams that help hotels identify infestations.

Dr Naylor told BBC News: ‘I don’t know of any other pest that has the same level of emotional and psychological impact on people.’

He said bedbug infestations can also leave some people experiencing symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder.

His comments come as experts warn of a dramatic increase in infestations involving the notoriously resilient insects—an era some have dubbed “peak bedbug”.

Bedbugs have developed resistance to modern insecticide sprays, making established infestations particularly difficult to eliminate.

Pest-control firm Rentokil reported that confirmed bedbug activity in the UK rose by 44 per cent year on year between 2023 and 2025. JG Pest Control, meanwhile, said it had carried out more than 5,000 bedbug-related visits in the past 12 months.

Recent outbreaks have affected hotels, trains and aircraft. Last month, six Southeastern services were cancelled after suspected bedbugs were found on trains travelling between Kent and London.

The cancellations came after two incidents the previous month in which bedbugs were discovered in drivers’ cabs operated by the same train company.

Dr Naylor confines the insects to his self-contained laboratory, where he helps companies test products before their market launch

A report in the Journal of Pest Science last month concluded that bedbugs carry different genetic signatures depending on where they’re from, allowing them not only to survive our efforts to eradicate them but to evolve and strengthen their resistance.

Their spread is also due to the frequency with which people travel around the country.

Bedbugs ‘hitchhike’, which means they cling to clothing and bags, Professor Logan explains. Hotels are hotbeds because of their large, transient population.

The same is true of trains, planes and hospitals. A Qantas flight was grounded in Rome earlier this month after the creatures were spotted scuttling around in economy.

‘But what we’re starting to see now is bedbugs also in places like offices, workplaces and pubs,’ said Professor Logan.

An infestation at The Guardian newspaper, reported last month, has resulted in staff being allowed to work remotely and given home bedbug ‘monitors’ – gadgets which lure bugs out of their hiding places with special chemical attractants.

In other offices in London, staff have refused to come in when colleagues have revealed they have infestations at home.

Rising temperatures may also be to blame. ‘Climate change is making it better for them and worse for us,’ Professor Logan says.

According to Martim Gois, co-founder and chief executive of hospitality company Valpas, Europe is ‘at peak bed bug’, with an unprecedented ‘surge’ in numbers observed in hotel rooms.

The tiny insects can hide in mattress seams, bed frames and upholstered furniture and are often transported into homes through luggage, clothing and unwashed second-hand clothes.

According to Hannah Shore, head of sleep science at leading bed retailer MattressOnline, bed bugs can quickly multiply if they are left untreated in ‘soft furnishings’ such as bedding, carpets and curtains.

She told the Daily Mail: ‘Bed bugs are most commonly found in beds due to the easy access to food (blood), but during the day, they walk around in search of food, which may take them further afield.

‘They often attach themselves to suitcases or climb into suitcases, meaning you then take them home with you and, if left untreated, they start a new colony there.’

The Block Grand Finale Delivers One of the Biggest Auction Sales in Series History

0

The Block delivered a dramatic grand finale on Sunday night, with the contestants celebrating some of the biggest paydays in the show’s history.

After seasons marked by disappointing profits and properties struggling to find buyers, the 2026 series ended on a high. Every team sold their home, with each group walking away with a substantial financial reward.

Courtney and Sev’s House 4 was the second property to go under the hammer and immediately began attracting bids, setting the stage for one of The Block’s most lucrative results.

The Brisbane best friends entered the auction with a reserve of $3.45 million. Bidding quickly intensified, and within moments they had already secured a $500,000 profit.

Following a tense bidding war, the property sold for $4.72 million, giving Courtney and Sev a staggering $1.27 million profit.

The result left both friends in tears and almost unable to speak when host Scott Cam revealed they had become instant millionaires.

“The Block is freaking me out,” Scott joked as he celebrated the result with the pair, warning that their auction total would be difficult for the remaining teams to surpass.

His prediction proved accurate. Courtney and Sev’s $1.27 million profit became the biggest sale result of The Block’s 2026 season.

Along with their profit, the friends received Scotty’s additional $500,000 prize and the $100,000 winner’s prize, taking their total earnings to $1.87 million.

Their extraordinary result also established a new record for the highest final total ever achieved by a team on The Block.

“It’s so much more than we could’ve ever dreamed of. Never in a million years could we have ever dreamed of that happening,” Courtney told nine.com.au

“And in this market,” Sev added.

Courtney said the timing and circumstances had worked in their favour, adding: “Everything has just lined up and we’re so happy and so grateful.”

The Brisbane duo surpassed the previous record set by Steph and Gian Ottavio, who won $1.75 million on the show in 2023.

The pair eventually sold the property for $3.817 million, with a total profit of $367,000.

Rick and Tayla’s House 5 was the last up for auction, again with a reserve of $3.45 million.

The father and daughter duo originally had a reserve of $3.5 million because they had the largest property on The Block.

They were delighted to be able to lower it by $50,000, opening them to more bidders.

Rick and Tayla were told by Scott before the auction kicked off that they were in with a shot to win The Block because of the colossal size of their home.

Scott called the pair ‘dark horses’ in the race, but they took the prediction in their stride.

The bidding was heated, flying straight up to $4 million in minutes.

Golden State Valkyries Defeat Atlanta Dream to Win WNBA Title

The Golden State Valkyries have captured the WNBA Championship in just their second season, edging the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in a dramatic Game 7 at the end of the Finals on Saturday night.

For Angel Reese and her Atlanta teammates, the defeat brought a painful conclusion to a season surrounded by controversy. On the other side, Gabby Williams delivered the defining performance of the night for Golden State.

A raucous crowd filled San Francisco’s Chase Center for the winner-take-all showdown. NBA star Draymond Green watched from courtside, while former President Barack Obama followed the action from home.

On a memorable Halloween night, Williams scored the Valkyries’ final 11 points of the third quarter before taking over again in the fourth. She finished with 30 points, earning Finals MVP honors and powering Golden State to its first title.

Atlanta received 18 points from Jordin Canada and 16 from Allisha Gray, while Reese posted eight points and 12 rebounds. The loss denied the Dream a championship in the franchise’s fourth Finals appearance.

Gray trimmed the deficit with two free throws with 11 seconds remaining. Atlanta then forced a jump ball between Gray and Williams, but Veronica Burton secured possession and made two free throws with 5.1 seconds left to all but seal the result.

The final buzzer sent the sellout crowd, dressed in violet, into celebration. Valkyries players rushed onto the court to embrace one another as confetti poured down from the Chase Center rafters.

Obama congratulated the champions in a post on X, writing: ‘Congrats to the new WNBA champs, the @Valkyries! Ballhalla was rocking all season, and this team was fun to watch. Enjoy the celebration.’

The postgame trophy ceremony was briefly overshadowed when WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert was loudly booed by the crowd. The reaction provided a striking end to what is expected to be remembered as one of the most controversial seasons in league history.

The Finals unfolded amid intense fan criticism after both teams chose not to take the court for the pregame national anthems, prompting some viewers to accuse the players of being unpatriotic. The series was also disrupted by scheduling problems, with Game 6 moved to a Thursday lunchtime slot to prevent it from being held in a much smaller venue.

More broadly, the WNBA season was dominated by several controversies, including a heated debate over transgender eligibility in women’s sports.

The issue intensified after Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham told ESPN that she did not think biological males should be permitted to compete in women’s sports.

Her remarks triggered protests from opposing sides of the debate. Former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White also announced plans to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft.

Earlier in June, the league’s biggest star, Caitlin Clark, was involved in a heated confrontation with Phoenix Mercury standout Alyssa Thomas, who appeared to strike Clark in the throat during the incident.

The confrontation was followed by growing scrutiny of WNBA officiating. Clark was among the players who subsequently called for the league to employ full-time referees.

In July, a race debate unfolded after Toronto Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello used the phrase ‘protected species’ when discussing Dream star Reese.

The comment was deemed to have racial connotations by many and the WNBA suspended the coach for one game.

On social media, players across the league were subjected to racist abuse and death threats, leading to some of the biggest names in the WNBA questioning whether the league was doing enough to protect them.

Commissioner Engelbert has taken plenty of criticism throughout it all, with many claiming she is not a strong enough leader moving forward.
