Rhapsody Of Realities 24 July 2026: Built For Success By The Word

Rhapsody Of Realities 24 July 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Built For Success By The Word

TOPIC: Built For Success By The Word (Rhapsody of Realities 24 July 2026)

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee – Isaiah 26:3

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

Very early in my life, the Lord set me on course for a life of ever-increasing success and impact. I got acquainted with the Word of God very early in life and I’m forever grateful to the Lord for that. I was born again before I was nine years old and began to preach the Gospel not long after. I started winning my friends to Christ, and shortly after, I began a fellowship. By fifteen, I was already holding crusades. From then on, the journey has been from glory to glory.

When God sets you on course and your mind is stayed on Him, the Word declares that He will keep you in perfect peace because you trust in Him. That peace is the peace of prosperity, a life that continually moves forward.

Psalm 1:3 describes this life clearly: “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” This is the result when you give attention to the Word, to shape your life. The result is extraordinary. You’re like a tree planted by the rivers of water, bearing fruit in season. There’s no failure in your life.

I love the way the AMPC describes it in Joshua 1:8: “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.” When you give yourself to the Word, you deal wisely and have good success.

What a life; a life built only for success. It’s the result of meditating on the Word; the Word reproduces itself in you. The Word of God is seed. Meditation keeps it rooted in your spirit such that it governs your mentality to only walk and talk the Word. Your life becomes the demonstration of the Word. Hallelujah.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the power and efficacy of your Word in my life. My mind is stayed on you, and I walk in perfect peace and unending prosperity. I give myself wholly to your Word, meditating on it day and night, and it produces in me a life of continuous success and fruitfulness. My life is the expression of your Word, and I walk in victory always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Philippines’ Replica of the Virgin Mary’s House Attracts Catholic Devotees Nationwide

ALFONSO – Perched on the historic grounds of Ephesus, Turkey, stands the revered House of the Virgin Mary, a sacred sanctuary believed to be where Jesus’ mother spent her twilight years. Thousands of miles away in the Philippines, Asia’s largest Catholic nation has warmly embraced a faithful replica of this hallowed site, drawing devotees to a serene field near Manila.

“The concept was born out of the need for a sanctuary,” explained Dennis Paez, the priest spearheading this heartfelt project. “Here, everyone is welcome without any questions asked.”

Unveiled in 2024, this meticulous replica stands in Alfonso, a quaint town in Cavite province roughly 70 kilometers (approximately 45 miles) south of bustling Manila. Since its grand opening, the site has been a spiritual hub, hosting Catholic pilgrimages and notable events like the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, celebrated with fervor in July. Painstakingly crafted, the 67-square-meter (720-square-foot) building mirrors the dimensions and aesthetics of every stone of its ancestral counterpart.

Catholic lore holds that Mary found solace in the house of Ephesus following the crucifixion of Jesus, residing there under the care of the apostle John to evade persecution in Jerusalem, until her assumption into heaven.

According to Paez, the replica’s construction spanned about 10 months, uniting workers from diverse religious backgrounds, which he sees as a testament to the Virgin Mary’s power to bring all her children together in harmony.

“The apostolate of this place is to accept people with unconditional positive regard,” added Paez, who is also a psychologist specializing in supporting youth. “There is no therapy here. The therapist is our Mother.”

Marian devotion shapes Filipino faith

In the country of about 113 million people, nearly 80% identify as Catholic.

Philippine faithful often refer to the Virgin Mary as the Blessed Mother. Processions honoring her are held regularly throughout the country.

“We are a long-suffering people,” Paez said. “Our wealth is really our faith and our faith is such like that because of the Blessed Mother.”

Religious historian Michael Delos Reyes said that Filipino devotion to the Virgin Mary dates back to the time Spanish colonizers introduced Christianity in the 16th century. However, that devotion has also found expression in more recent moments of the country’s history.

Delos Reyes said that some attributed the 1986 People Power Revolution that led to the ouster of then-President Ferdinand Marcos to the Virgin’s intercession. And in 2013, when the Typhoon Haiyan ravaged Tacloban, devotees looked to the Blessed Mother for hope.

Filipinos turn to Mary for comfort

“To Jesus through Mary” is a phrase that reflects the central place Mary holds in Filipino Catholic life.

“Her maternal dimension is what Filipinos find meaningful, as well as her power to intercede on believers’ behalf,” said Deirdre de la Cruz, a professor of history and Southeast Asian studies at the University of Michigan.

Marian iconography and rosaries frequently adorn Filipino cars, public transportation, individual altars and shrines both in urban and rural landscapes, De la Cruz added.

“As someone who is known to provide comfort, Mary is a very familiar figure and someone to whom one can appeal in difficult times,” she said.

Daphne Oseña Paez, who recently visited the replica, said that despite being raised Catholic her devotion was not as strong as it became in adulthood. It began with a trip to Mexico, where she saw the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and it deepened years later after enduring a difficult pregnancy that made her seek refuge in her faith.

“We don’t pray to Mary herself, but Mary intercedes for us,” Oseña Paez said. “In my times of trouble, and I’ve had a lot, I really clung on to the love and comfort of her as a mother.”

A pilgrimage closer to home

Donated Marian icons line the walls inside the replica. At the center stands a statue of Mary modeled after the one in Turkey, alongside a relic said to be from her veil.

Most of the displayed images were donated by art collector and Philippine culture advocate Maritess Pineda. She said her devotion to Mary led her to start a collection that has finally found a home.

Other Filipinos felt drawn to contribute in their own way. Rupert Suarez and his wife had visited the House of the Virgin Mary in Ephesus years earlier. When he learned about plans to build a replica in the Philippines, he joined the the project.

“I usually pray to the Mother,” Suarez said. “It’s so very blessed that we already have this replica built.”

The site has received little public promotion since its inauguration. Yet Father Paez said pilgrims have visited.

“I don’t at all think that it is me bringing them,” Paez said. “It’s The Blessed Mother asking them, inviting them to come.”

In Wisconsin, a woman faces accusations of disorderly conduct following claims from her uncle that she reacted inappropriately after his mother’s passing.

Forty-seven-year-old Karin Andrews has been charged with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, a charge filed on Tuesday, months after her grandmother died at her 61-year-old uncle’s home in Salem Lakes, Wisconsin. According to a criminal complaint examined by Law&Crime, the alleged incident, which occurred in December 2025, was brought to the attention of law enforcement by Andrews’ uncle. He contacted the police on January 5, nearly a month after the family loss.

The uncle informed police he possessed video evidence of the incident. Upon reviewing this footage, authorities observed Andrews engaged in a heated argument with her uncle, during which she exclaimed, “Are you f—ing kidding me?” Her uncle, described as having remained “calm,” is seen requesting that Andrews leave. Subsequently, Andrews allegedly lunged toward him, seemingly spitting in his direction.

While Andrews was not taken into custody, she has been officially charged with disorderly conduct. Her court appearance is set for August 6.

Exploring the Enduring Impact of ‘Desperate Housewives’ as It Captivates New Audiences

0

“Desperate Housewives” captivated audiences as a major hit on ABC, running successfully from 2004 until 2012.

Today, a new generation is discovering the charm of “Desperate Housewives,” as the show finds fresh viewers.

Over its eight-season run, the series garnered notable acclaim, earning 38 nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards and securing seven wins.

The series turned its cast into international stars, with Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Brenda Strong becoming household names.

Recently, On The Red Carpet caught up with Brenda Strong, who narrated the series as Mary Alice Young. Alongside her were cast members Steven Culp, known for his role as Rex Van de Kamp, and Max Carver, who played a young Preston Scavo. This reunion took place at a special event on Wisteria Lane, the iconic filming location of the series.

“‘Desperate Housewives’ was my first job ever. I’d never acted before anything. So the whole experience for me was a trip. But this is actually, the first time I was ever on camera was running through this door,” said Carver as he stood outside the Scavo home on Wisteria Lane.

We also caught up with show creator Marc Cherry.

“When we premiered, there was not another show with ‘Housewives’ in the title,” he said. “There was something about the title ‘Desperate Housewives’ which must have appealed to a lot of people in the country because we were the number one show in the county the week we premiered and we got a lot of attention.

“I think it was a life-changing experience for all of us,” said Strong. “I think it kind of took all of us by surprise. I mean you’re never surprised when you read good writing, you go ‘oh, I hope this goes.’ But I think the velocity that it became this behemoth really surprised all of us.”

Culp noted that the show was a trendsetter in terms of tone.

“You can still see it in the way this sort of interesting mixture of comedy and drama and mystery that at that time nobody else was doing,” he said. “And when we started filming it in season one, it was a real task to find the tone of the series. And we realized when we were finding the right tone, it was very exhilarating.”

Now, thanks to streaming, “Desperate Housewives” is captivating a new audience and still thrilling the original fans.

“It’s nice to know that people are still enjoying the show this many years after the premiere. We’re coming up on 22 years since the show premiered and I’m really proud of the fact that we made such an impact and that we still have our fans,” he said.

All eight seasons of “Desperate Housewives” are streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC station.

NYC Stabbing: Suspect Arrested After Alleged Attack

0

Authorities have apprehended a suspect following a shocking incident in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, where two men were reportedly stabbed. The suspect allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack, which officials are currently treating as a potential antisemitic crime.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) reported that one of the victims identifies as Jewish. Eyewitnesses recounted hearing the suspect’s screams of “Allahu Akbar” during the assaults, which occurred close to West 84th Street and Central Park West, an area known for its significant Jewish population.

Detectives are currently determining whether the incidents should be officially classified as hate crimes. Raul Morales, 51, has been identified as the suspect linked to both of these violent acts.

According to the NYPD, the assaults appear to have occurred in close proximity to one another, although they are described as separate incidents.

A 57-year-old man was reportedly attacked near West 84th Street and Central Park West just after 1:30 p.m. local time.

Officials said officers found him conscious and alert with a stab wound to his back. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Investigators later found a 50-year-old man nearby with a stab wound to his torso. He was also conscious and alert, and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Initial NYPD findings suggest that mental health may have been a factor.

“While the perpetrator has no known mental health history with the NYPD, the initial investigation suggests that mental health may have been a factor,” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.

WABC reported that police are investigating whether the suspect used a knife or a screwdriver during the alleged attacks.

Hours after the attack, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who recently called on the federal government to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said he had been briefed on what he described as “horrifying stabbings” and noted the victims were an Asian man and a Jewish man.

“According to witness and victim statements, the perpetrator yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ during both attacks,” Mamdani said. “The NYPD responded immediately and arrested Raul Morales in connection with both assaults — and I am grateful to the officers for their swift response.”

Mamdani issued his statement roughly two hours after City Council Speaker Julie Menin and about 45 minutes after Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“I am absolutely sickened and furious by what appears to be an antisemitic stabbing on the Upper West Side,” Menin wrote in a post on X.

“While we await additional details to be confirmed, we know that what is happening in our city is abhorrent,” Menin said. “The fear in the Jewish community is real. Every New Yorker deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood, regardless of their faith or identity.”

“We must remain united in condemning antisemitism and ensuring those responsible are held fully accountable,” she added. “I thank the NYPD for its swift response in apprehending the assailant.”

New York Assembly member Micah Lasher, a Jewish representative of the area, said he is also in contact with investigators.

“I am in touch with the NYPD and community leaders about the stabbing of two individuals on the Upper West Side today,” Lasher said. “The NYPD responded immediately and has apprehended a suspect. I am praying for the survival and recovery of the victims and will provide more information as I have it.”

Hochul posted on X saying that she is “disgusted by what appears to be another senseless attack on New Yorkers simply because they’re Jewish.”

“The strength of New York has always been our ability to live together across every faith and background,” Hochul added. “Anyone who tries to tear that apart will be met with the full force of the law. New York will stand with our Jewish community today, tomorrow, and always.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel Gideon Sa’ar added that he was “appalled but sadly not surprised” by the incident, blaming Mamdani for creating “a climate in which Jews are targeted.”

“I am appalled by the horrific antisemitic stabbing attack in New York. Appalled but sadly not surprised,” he said in a post on X.

“This violence did not happen in a vacuum. Months of incitement against the Jewish state from Mamdani have helped create a climate in which Jews are targeted. Words have consequences. Mamdani must end the incitement, confront antisemitism with resolve, and act now to protect the city’s Jewish community.”

Mamdani’s office, along with the FBI, did not immediately respond to further inquiries from News Media.

First Amendment Showdown: LA City Council’s Speech Restrictions Under Fire

0

The Los Angeles City Council is on a collision course with the First Amendment as it attempts to control what people say in public meetings.

A potential lawsuit looms over the city, brought by two top free speech advocacy groups, challenging a controversial rule that prohibits public speakers from using two specific offensive words while addressing the council.

These organizations argue that by outright banning particular language, the city crosses a constitutional line, igniting a significant legal debate on whether elected bodies can declare certain speech unacceptable in a public setting.

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and the First Amendment Coalition have issued an ultimatum to city officials: they have 30 days to revoke Council Rule 7 and pledge to discontinue its enforcement.

If the city fails to act, the groups plan to initiate legal action on behalf of Los Angeles resident Stacey Segarra-Bohlinger, who they claim has already been penalized twice under this contentious policy.

“The Constitution forbids the government from banning words,” FIRE said in a statement Thursday, arguing that however offensive the language may be, it remains protected by the First Amendment.

The rule, approved unanimously in a 14-0 vote on July 30, 2025, bars members of the public from using the so-called “N-word,” the “C-word” or “any variation” of either term during public comment before the City Council or its committees.

The ban goes beyond the words themselves.

It also outlaws plural forms and versions created by adding suffixes such as “-ish,” “-y,” “-ly” and “-ing.”

Anyone who violates the rule can be thrown out of the remainder of the meeting and barred from attending any other council meetings held later that day.

Repeat offenders can be banned from future meetings for up to six business days, according to FIRE.

Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson introduced the measure in March 2025, arguing repeated use of the slurs had inflamed tensions, nearly sparked physical confrontations and discouraged residents from participating in city business.

Supporters pointed to the Supreme Court’s 1942 decision in Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, which carved out the narrow “fighting words” exception to First Amendment protections.

But FIRE and the First Amendment Coalition argue Los Angeles has gone far beyond that limited exception by punishing people simply for saying forbidden words, even when they’re criticizing the city’s own censorship policy.

Their legal challenge centers on Segarra-Bohlinger, a regular speaker during public-comment periods.

According to a letter sent to Harris-Dawson and City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto, Segarra-Bohlinger criticized the council’s speech restrictions during an Oct. 31, 2025, meeting by saying the council was “afraid of the word ‘c–t.’”

She then added: “Kind of insane how you’re more offended by bad words than police brutalizing citizens and journalists in the streets.”

The advocacy groups say her remarks stayed on topic, remained within her allotted speaking time and did not disrupt the meeting or interfere with council business.

Still, Councilmember Heather Hutt objected to the language and urged Council President Pro Tempore Bob Blumenfield, who was presiding over the meeting, to enforce the rule.

Blumenfield warned Segarra-Bohlinger that using the prohibited word again would get her removed.

On Dec. 3, 2025, that warning became reality.

Segarra-Bohlinger again used the word while criticizing the policy, was ejected from the meeting and barred from attending any additional council meetings scheduled that day.

In their letter, FIRE staff attorney Zachary Silver and First Amendment Coalition legal director David Loy argue the rule violates both the First Amendment and California’s Brown Act because it discriminates based on viewpoint, imposes unreasonable restrictions on public comment and allows officials to remove speakers whose remarks don’t actually disrupt meetings.

The groups are urging the city to scrap the word ban and its enforcement provisions before the dispute lands in court.

“We hope the council will take this opportunity to bring its meeting rules into compliance with the First Amendment and Brown Act without need for litigation,” the letter states.

Harris-Dawson has also suggested the current ban may only be the beginning.

“This is as much a step as we can take at this moment, we believe. But we think it will open us up to take additional steps in the future,” he said.

In another instance, he added, “We’re going to try to get in all the terms.”

According to FIRE, Harris-Dawson has also publicly stated he is “eager to get in front of a judge.”

The 15-member LA City Council consists of 10 Democrats, 4 democratic socialists, and 1 Independent, with 0 Republicans.

Ransom Canyon Season 2 Finale: Quinn’s Romantic Choice Revealed

Netflix’s compelling Western drama, Ransom Canyon, has wrapped up another season packed with riveting drama, romantic entanglements, and the unique allure of small-town life. As Season 2 reaches its dramatic conclusion, viewers are left feeling fulfilled, anxious, and excited to discover what awaits in Season 3.

In the aftermath of Staten (portrayed by Josh Duhamel) aiding Quinn (played by Minka Kelly) in executing her No Place Like Home music festival, he made the heartbreaking decision to part ways with her, believing he wasn’t right for her. The penultimate episode of Season 2 erupted in multiple cliffhangers: Lucas (Garrett Wareing) faced the repercussions of his reckless decision to drink and drive, Sheriff Dan (Philip Winchester) witnessed his daughter Lauren (Lizzy Greene) sharing a moment with Kit (Casey W. Johnson), and Sidney (Heidi Grace Engerman), after being deceived into signing divorce papers, left Yancy (Jack Schumacher) and Ellie (Marianly Tejada) horrified when she startled Ellie off the porch.

Questions abound: What becomes of Ellie and her baby? Does Lucas face arrest? Will Lauren and Kit pursue a relationship? What fate awaits Sidney? And is this truly the end for Quinn and Staten? Episode 8 of Season 2, “Love Is A Canyon,” holds the answers fans are eager for.

Curious about how Ransom Canyon Season 2 concludes? If you’re searching for a detailed recap of the finale, Decider has all the insights. Be warned, significant spoilers are ahead.

Ransom Canyon Season 2 Ending Explained: Ransom Canyon Season 2, Episode 8 Recap

Fortunately, Ransom Canyon quickly addresses the fate of Ellie and her child. Following a tense bout with placental abruption and premature labor, both Ellie and her baby daughter Isabella emerge safe and healthy. Yancy, overcome with relief and joy, is prepared to embrace his role as a father. However, the looming threat persists as Sidney remains at large, casting a shadow over the residents of Ransom Canyon.

Speaking of danger, the cops cuffed Lucas before he was able to drive drunk, and when Dan sees Kit headed into the station to bail his little brother out the next morning, he lays into him for moving in on Lauren. He also hands him the contact info for a friend of his who has a ranch in Wyoming and heavily encourages him to skip town, start over, and do right by Lucas and Lauren. The brother love triangle plot thickens when Lucas regretfully reveals he slept with Ashley after he saw Lauren and Kit kiss. When he comes clean to Lauren, she simply gets in her car and drives away.

Despite Staten stepping back from a future with Quinn in Episode 7, she tries to get through to him again in Episode 8. When she tells him she pushed him away because she was scared, he stands his ground and says he’s listening for the first time. So Quinn turns her focus to Ellie and Gracie’s. She starts planning the next music festival and finds the perfect location: the Lone Star theater. To turn it into Ransom Canyon’s Ryman, she knows she’ll need a strong financial partner, so she teams up with Mary Lou Daniels (Bridget Regan) on a more permanent basis.

To fully move forward, Staten and Quinn know they need to mend rocky relationships with their parents. And Season 2’s finale gives them both touching, long-awaited opportunities to have honest conversations. Sam has a vulnerable heart-to-heart with Staten and vows to tell the board that he’s best suited to run the Double K. And Quinn and her mom get deep, as well. Quinn encourages her mom to pursue her own dreams and agrees to sell the ranch. And when Claire learns that Quinn and Staten’s ship may have finally sailed, she takes matters into her own hands and tries to right the wrong she made when he came to her with the letter all those years ago. She visits Staten, tells him that love is a canyon and encourages him to get to the other side with her girl, and delivers a box with a handwritten note from him to Quinn before she leaves town.

So what does the note say? Staten was wrong. Of course he still wants to be with her. And he asks her to meet him at the cabin if she felt the same, just like he did back in the day. Quinn keeps Staten waiting so long he’s about to blow out the romantic candles he lit, but eventually she makes it. “It only took you 30 years,” Staten jokes, before diving into a serious, A+ love confession.

“I think you were right about fate. It kept us apart for a reason. You needed to go to New York, we needed other loves, other lives. Amalah and Randall…I don’t regret a single moment of my life with them, not even the pain of losing them. I think that everything that happened, I believe, is fate. Fate was making us ready for each other,” he said. “That’s really beautiful,” Quinn replies. “Now shut up and kiss me.” AHHHH!!!! After spending the night together, the two wake up at the cabin and admit they make each other feel like home.

Unfortunately, not every relationship resolution is that smooth. After considering Dan’s offer, Kit tells Lauren that he doesn’t think he can be with her, and Lauren is crushed. She races to catch him before he skips town, but instead she finds Lucas sulking at home alone. The two still have love for each other, but Lauren’s heart is with Kit at the moment. So Lucas takes Staten’s advice and lets her run. He tells her Kit is catching a bus, and with seconds to spare, Lauren catches him, kisses him, and says, “I’m not letting you go.”

While Ellie is in the hospital recovering, Yancy meets Freddie — the man who helped them with their oil con — to ask for more time in getting him his $80,000 payout. In a twist, Freddie said he didn’t need the debt paid, because Yancy actually was sitting on a plot of oil and together, they could be “stupid rich.” With Sidney still on the loose and cops unable to charge her for assault since Ellie fell off the porch, Ellie grows more paranoid by the minute and self-discharges to head home.

Yancy arrives at her house to find Kai, who’s keeping watch because she doesn’t feel safe with Sid still around. Yancy is eager to spend time with his daughter and share the good news about the oil, but Ellie asks him to leave and vows to protect Isabella from the darkness that follows him. A devastated Yancy obeys her wishes and drives away from his family, but it’s clear his main goal will be to get them back next season.

Thankfully, after the emotional roller coaster, Ransom Canyon leaves us on a happy note. To celebrate the board voting in his favor, Staten gives Quinn a key to the Double K and the two embark on their next chapter. Tired: Love triangles. Wired: Living together. This is a Netflix drama, after all, so the couple is sure to find a slew of new challenges next season. But for now, they’re in bliss. Before the end credits roll, Staten says, “What do you say we start forever right now?” And they seal it with a kiss.

NYC Synagogue Stabbing: Community Reels as Suspect Arrested

0

A chilling incident unfolded in New York City, where a man reportedly went on a stabbing spree outside a synagogue while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar,’ landing him in police custody.

Identified as 51-year-old Raul Morales, the suspect was captured on Thursday afternoon. Authorities allege he first attacked a 57-year-old, stabbing him in the torso around 1:30 PM, before targeting a 50-year-old near Central Park’s Orthodox synagogue.

The victims, one of Asian descent and the other Jewish, were rushed to Mt Sinai-St Luke’s Hospital. Fortunately, both are expected to recover, informed Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

In a dramatic turn, Morales was located in a nearby apartment building, thanks to a ‘good Samaritan’ who directed officers to his hiding spot just blocks away from the assaults.

Investigators are currently piecing together the motivation behind the attacks. Eyewitnesses recall Morales shouting ‘Allahu Akbar,’ prompting authorities to consider if hate crime charges are warranted, Tisch communicated via social media.

Mental health may have also played a factor in the attack, Tisch said, adding that investigators have not yet found a ‘link between Morales and either of the victims, nor between the victims and each other.’

As the investigation into the stabbings now continues, Mayor Zohran Mamdani asserted: ‘These hateful and despicable attacks have no place in our city.’

He said he had been briefed on the incident and was ‘relieved that both victims are in stable condition’ as well as ‘grateful to the officers for their swift response.’

The attack allegedly began when Morales jumped the first victim, a 57-year-old Asian man, near West 84th Street and Central Park West and stabbed him in the back at around 1.30pm, according to the New York Post.

The second victim, a 50-year-old man wearing a yarmulke, was then attacked after leaving a synagogue at Amsterdam Avenue and West 86th Street – and was said to have been stabbed in the torso with a screwdriver.

Morales then allegedly barricaded himself inside a New York City Housing Authority apartment a few blocks away, but was arrested at around 2.45pm.

Nava Silton, who had been speaking with the second victim inside the Jewish Center ahead of the attack, described how Morales ‘tried to act like a normal person and that he wasn’t involved, and muttering “Someone should call 911,” literally pretending he was not culpable.’

She also said the victim told her how ‘someone drew a screwdriver into the right side of my chest.’

‘It was serious, but he’s speaking and he’s conscious,’ she told the Post, calling the victim ‘an incredible person’ who had been leaving Tisha B’av services when he was attacked.

Marianna Ellenberg also recounted how she saw the wife of the first victim watch in horror as her husband was randomly knifed in the back.

‘We saw her covering her mouth. She was just scared,’ Ellenberg said. ‘Like it was a surreal image because it was a bright, sunny 1.30pm, Upper West Side, Central Park West day and there was just this cry.’

Morris Dahan, a member of Manhattan Shomrim, a volunteer civilian watch group in Orthodox Jewish communities, also said it was ‘unbelievable’ how cops managed to pull Morales out of the apartment building.

‘He was inside of an apartment and they went in there, 50, 60 cops with dogs, canine, sledgehammers, whatever they need to break in to doors. And sure enough, 15 minutes later, they came out with him.’

Charges were not immediately filed against Morales, who allegedly suffers from mental health issues and has at least two prior arrests – both for drug possession in 1991.

He had reportedly been seen about half an hour after officers responded to the first stabbing walking erratically and shouting incoherently – including yelling the word ‘Islam.’

7-Day Chair Squat Challenge: Enhance Knee Strength for Seniors

0

When it comes to fortifying your knees, chair squats are an indispensable ally.

>

For those entering their golden years, evaluating knee strength becomes increasingly important. As we age, our knees are key players in maintaining mobility, balance, and independence. Aging ushers in a series of hurdles like muscle deterioration, the natural wear and tear of cartilage, reduced joint lubrication, and sometimes an increase in body weight. Incorporating knee strength considerations into your fitness routine is crucial.

If you’re now wondering about your own knee health, consider embarking on a seven-day chair squat challenge. It’s specifically designed to help restore knee strength for those over 60.

“Chair squats are exceptional foundational exercises for the older population as they bolster the muscles supporting the knees while maintaining a movement pattern we rely on daily,” remarks Josh York, Founder & CEO of GYMGUYZ. “Simple actions like sitting and standing are not just routine; they are critical indicators of lower-body strength and mobility, which are vital for the independence some older adults might find challenging.”

Drawing on extensive experience in personal training, York leads a national network offering personalized fitness programs, with a substantial focus on individuals over 50. His approach highlights the importance of building strength, enhancing mobility, and promoting long-term functionality. Below, York shares a seven-day chair squat regimen to aid in maintaining knee strength as you age.

Day 1: Chair Squats

“Focus on sitting back into the chair, then standing up tall by driving through your feet to help build lower-body strength,” York instructs.

  1. Begin by standing tall in front of a sturdy chair with your feet hip-width apart on the ground.
  2. Activate your core and keep your chest lifted.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips and lower slowly into a squat—as if you’re about to sit down. Make sure your weight stays in your heels.
  4. Hover your glutes just above the chair’s seat.
  5. Press through your heels to rise back up.
  6. Perform 2 sets of 10 reps.

Day 2: Tempo Chair Squats

“This exercise increases time under tension to help build strength and control through the full movement,” York says.

  1. Begin by standing tall in front of a sturdy chair with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Activate your core and keep your chest lifted.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips and lower slowly into a squat.
  4. Lower for 3 to 4 seconds, lightly touching the seat once you make contact with the chair.
  5. Use control to rise back up.
  6. Perform 2 sets of 8 reps.

Day 3: Chair Squat With Overhead Reach

“This helps engage your upper body into the exercise to promote better posture and full-body coordination,” York tells us.

  5. As you rise back up, reach both arms overhead.
  6. Then, return them slowly to your sides.
  7. Perform 2 sets of 10 reps.

Day 4: Chair Squat With Lateral Step Reset

  6. Take a small step to the right.
  7. Return to the center.
  8. Alternate sides with every rep while maintaining control to help support your coordination.
  9. Perform 2 sets of 10 reps.

  5. Press through your heels to rise back up.
  6. Then, immediately lift both heels off the floor.
  7. Use control to lower, repeating after each chair squat.
  8. Perform 2 sets of 10 reps.

Day 7: Chair Squat With Rotation

  1. Begin by standing tall in front of a sturdy chair with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Activate your core and keep your chest lifted.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips and lower slowly into a squat—as if you’re about to sit down. Make sure your weight stays in your heels.
  4. Hover your glutes just above the chair’s seat.
  5. Press through your heels to rise back up.
  6. Once standing tall, rotate your upper body gently to the left, return to the center, then rotate to the right.

US $166B Refund Sparks Massive Hidden Economic Costs

0

In a surprising turn of events, the Australian fashion enterprise Nashie has been handed a hefty refund by the US government. This six-figure sum, which includes a 6% interest rate, was returned as a reimbursement for tariffs the company had shelled out for goods imported from the United States. Nashie’s case is part of a larger movement, with countless businesses recuperating tariffs that were initially levied on what former President Donald Trump referred to as “Liberation Day.”

Out of an estimated US$166 billion (AU$237 billion) earmarked for refunding, businesses have already reclaimed a staggering US$85 billion (AU$121 billion).

Despite the US Supreme Court’s decision in February to roll back these tariffs, the economic and political aftereffects linger, with some remnants of the Trump administration’s policies proving difficult to reverse.

Tariffs not designed to last

The tariffs, introduced by Trump in April 2025, were based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). This 1977 legislation grants presidents the authority to address extraordinary foreign threats but does not explicitly mention the word “tariff.”

On February 20, 2026, the US Supreme Court delivered a 6-3 verdict declaring that the IEEPA did not have the jurisdiction to authorize tariffs. According to the Constitution, only Congress holds the power to impose taxes and duties, marking a critical clarification in the law.

The decision placed an important limit on the president’s power to impose tariffs. But it did not end Trump’s tariff policy, which was, from the beginning, designed to buy time to rewrite US trade relations with the rest of the world.

Trump responded with a temporary 10 per cent global tariff, which expires on 24 July after the statutory 150-day limit.

Trump has also pursued more targeted tariffs under laws dealing with unfair trade practices, national security and anti-slavery claims.

These require investigations into foreign trade practices and lengthy procedures, which slow the process and also create a record that can be scrutinised in court.

The US Trade Representative’s findings on alleged forced labour have prepared the ground for a 12.5 per cent tariff on exports from 54 countries, including Australia, China, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, starting on 24 July 2026.

So while the Supreme Court closed one legal door, the Trump administration was already preparing to walk through another. And it has bought itself yet more time.

The fiscal cost for the US

The refunds paid out contributed to a US$120 billion (AU$171 billion) federal deficit this June, in sharp contrast to the US$27 billion (AU$38 billion) surplus in June 2025.

That said, the US$166 billion (AU$236 billion) being paid out is not a fine. Much of it is money the government collected without legal authority and must now return. This is real money, but it’s less than 2 per cent of the projected 2026 federal government spending.

Without any fanfare to match “Liberation Day”, the political cost may be smaller still.

The refunds involve a technical process and are dispersed among many importers, making them far less visible than the original tariff announcements.

And concessions that trading partners, including the UK and the European Union, made under the threat of higher tariffs don’t automatically vanish when a tariff is struck down.

What’s in a refund?

For businesses, repaying money they should never have paid doesn’t recreate the position they were in before the tariffs.

Importers had capital tied up for months as financing costs mounted, orders were cancelled, and inventory sat stranded. Many had to renegotiate contracts.

They paid customs brokers and lawyers, and delayed other investments while waiting to learn which tariff would apply. Some stopped shipping to the US altogether, unsure what customs duties they would incur.

Smaller firms were especially exposed. They generally have smaller cash reserves, fewer alternative suppliers, and less capacity to absorb an unexpected increase in duty.

One analysis estimated small business importers in the US each paid US$306,000 extra in tariffs on average.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta estimates that “financially constrained” businesses will receive 34 per cent of all refunds, or about US$56 billion. These firms are most likely to use the money to invest, hire staff or reduce prices.

Better-financed businesses are more likely to save it, repay debt or distribute it to shareholders. PepsiCo said it would use the refunds to offset some commodity inflation.

But few are likely to pass the refunds back to consumers due to the complexity and cost involved. Nintendo is being sued by its own customers, who argue the tariff refunds should be paid to consumers to offset the higher prices they paid.

Access is also uneven. A business with a US bank account and customs broker can get its refund relatively smoothly. Australian businesses shipping via Australia Post face further delays: those shipments weren’t entered through the system US Customs and Border Protection uses for refunds, and no refund pathway exists yet.

Nor does the refund necessarily reach whoever ultimately paid. Rather, it goes to the importer, even where the cost was passed on to a retailer or consumer through higher prices.

The deeper cost is uncertainty

The most important consequence of Trump’s tariff policy is persistent uncertainty.

Trump can impose an immediate commercial disruption, then use that disruption as leverage in negotiations with other governments. The latest example is Monday’s 50 per cent tariff on a range of Canadian goods, which the US says responds to Canadian retaliation and discrimination against US cars, dairy and alcohol.

Persistent uncertainty also encourages global commerce to fragment into competing blocs whose market access is more predictable.

As our Weaponised Trade project shows, the greater danger is other governments adopting the same playbook: temporary, legally questionable trade restrictions becoming the norm rather than the exception.

Litigation to roll back these measures takes months or even years.

And if a court does eventually invalidate a measure, the US can invoke another law and restart the process. Courts operate retrospectively. Markets, on the other hand, react to them immediately.

The Supreme Court ruling did not return lost customers, reverse commercial decisions or restore confidence in predictable trade rules.

Tariffs can be refunded. Uncertainty cannot.
