Exclusive: Inside Look at the Wedding Invitation of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

0

The lavish wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden has captured public attention, and now, one of the guests may have inadvertently unveiled the couple’s invitation.

The celebrated singer and the NFL star, both 36 years old, exchanged vows on Friday during an opulent celebration at the famed New York City venue.

Although the event drew a staggering crowd of approximately 1,000 guests, including high-profile actors, musicians, and athletes, tight-lipped secrecy surrounded many aspects of the occasion.

Now, however, it seems one of the fortunate invitees may have briefly shared a peek at the invitation for the exclusive affair.

Ashish Ferguson, a lifelong friend of Kelce, shared what appeared to be a screenshot of the digital invitation on his Instagram account on July 6, only to remove it shortly afterward.

While it was taken down moments later, it was reposted all over X (formerly Twitter), where it quickly went viral.

The alleged invitation featured a stunning watercolor painting of a sunset over a lake and some greenery.

It contained the now-famous logo that Swift and Kelce used for their wedding – two Ts intertwined with hearts – along with the words, ‘You’re invited.’

‘July 3rd, 2026. Manhattan,’ the invitation continued. ‘Love, Taylor and Travis.’

Then, in smaller letters at the bottom, it said: ‘One night only. Early evening. Black tie.’

The invitation also contained a watermark with Ferguson’s name all over it.

Many Swifties were quick to point out that the singer has been open about her love of painting in the past, and wondered if she made the artwork in the background of the invitation herself.

The Cruel Summer songstress released a collection of her personal watercolor paintings back in 2017 as part of a special Target edition of her Reputation album.

One of them looked very similar to the painting in the wedding invite, containing an orange sky over an ocean.

Her fans took to X to discuss the similarities and share their theories in droves.

‘Taylor Swift might have painted her own wedding invitation background,’ one wrote.

‘She definitely [did] it’s something she would do,’ added another.

‘These are the most beautiful and thoughtful wedding invites I’ve ever seen,’ gushed someone else. ‘She veered away from the average invite. Always over serving.’

‘So creative! Taylor really poured her heart (and brush) into this. Beautiful work,’ read a fourth post.

‘This is peak Taylor, turning wedding invites into her own artwork. Love this so much,’ said a fifth. ‘She definitely painted it herself, that artistic vibe is so Taylor.’

‘That would be such a thoughtful personal touch [if she did paint it],’ a different person chimed in.

‘If it’s true, that’s a beautiful detail for the invitation,’ agreed another.

Swift and Kelce shared the news that they had officially become husband and wife in blockbuster style on Friday evening, lighting up the iconic music venue with video ads which read ‘JUST&T MARRIED,’ a romantic nod to their shared initials.

Swift’s publicist issued a press release shortly after the newlyweds said ‘I do,’ sharing several of the intimate details about the nuptials.

She revealed that Adam Sandler officiated the wedding, the couple wore custom Christian Dior Haute Couture, Swift opted out of bridesmaids and chose her brother, Austin Swift, as her ‘man of honor’ instead and, as the Daily Mail exclusively reported, Kelce named his big brother Jason Kelce as his best man.

The star-studded guest list included Gigi Hadid, Lena Dunham, Steven Spielberg, Karlie Kloss, Selena Gomez and Sabrina Carpenter, among others.

Breathtaking footage obtained exclusively by the Daily Mail showed how Madison Square Garden was transformed into an enchanted garden of towering trees, emerald drapery and soaring archways for the event.

Emerald green drapery hung from the ceiling to complete the ambience, while the stadium’s usual blue seats were chicly covered in nude-colored coverings.

A towering ceiling-height structure, with gray embellishments and archways, dominated the space, resembling a chapel or the ‘castle’ that sparked frenzied speculation prior to the event.

The exclusive video also showed a romantically lit hallway with pink walls, peach drapery and matching carpet. The entrance featured a sentimental touch, as several photos of Swift and Kelce throughout their relationship were featured on the walls.

All of the sweet photographs, including the couple’s August 2025 backyard proposal, were inside large gold frames. A large ‘T and T’ logo, which seems to have featured in other parts of the nuptials, was displayed in the center.

Uncovering the Life and Legacy of Lauren Bennett: Husband, Cause of Death, GRL Hits & Biography

Lauren Bennett Biography – Lauren Bennett Wiki

Lauren Bennett, a British singer celebrated for her roles in girl groups like G.R.L. and Paradiso Girls, also gained prominence as a featured artist on the chart-topping LMFAO anthem, “Party Rock Anthem.”

Hailing from Meopham, Kent in the UK, Bennett’s vocal journey began in her teens when she competed in The X Factor. Although she made it to the final 12, her journey was cut short. Nonetheless, her talent caught the attention of music producers, leading to an audition for a new girl group, Paradiso Girls. At just 17, Bennett relocated to Los Angeles, joining the ensemble which released “Patron Tequila” featuring Lil Jon and Eve. This catchy single soared to No. 3 on the US dance club songs chart in 2009.

Despite Paradiso Girls parting ways with Interscope in 2010, Bennett’s musical success continued as a solo artist. She made waves with her guest vocals on LMFAO’s magnetic “Party Rock Anthem.” The track captivated audiences, maintaining the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks in 2011 while also topping Pop Airplay and charting at No. 6 on Latin Airplay.

Bennett then became part of G.R.L., a vibrant all-female band that gained international attention through collaborations such as Pitbull’s “Wild Wild Love” in 2014. The group’s biggest hit, “Ugly Heart,” achieved Top 20 status in the UK and reached the Top 5 in both Australia and New Zealand. However, after the tragic passing of bandmate Simone Battle in the same year, G.R.L. released the poignant tribute “Lighthouse” as part of their G.R.L. Gives an Hour mental health initiative. Sadly, the group disbanded in 2015.

In recent years, Bennett has embarked on a solo career, releasing tracks such as “Reality” and “Hurricane.” She has also occasionally reconnected with former G.R.L. members for several projects, with the group briefly reuniting as a four-piece in 2020.

On Valentine’s Day in 2020, Lauren shared a sweet, black-and-white snapshot of Kenny holding their daughter. “We love each other so much, we decided to combine ourselves @kennywormald thank you uncle @leewormald for this sweet photo,” she captioned the post. It’s unclear whether Bennett and Kenny were still together at the time of her death.

Lauren Bennett Cause of Death

Party Rock Anthem singer Lauren Bennett died on May 29, 2026, at the age of 36, just one month before her 37th birthday, according to Kent and Medway Coroner records obtained by USA TODAY. The news was formally announced by her former band, G.R.L., in a heartfelt statement posted to their official Instagram page on Monday, July 6.

“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren,” the group wrote. “Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us. We will forever cherish the love, laughter, and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved.”

They concluded: “Rest peacefully, sweet Lauren. You will always be in our hearts. Your GRLs, Em, Tash, and P,” naming members Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen.

Alligator Attack on Pennsylvania Boy: Fishing Trip Turns Tragic as Teen Loses Hand

0

An avid young baseball fan from Pennsylvania experienced a horrifying ordeal during a fishing trip when he lost his hand in a brutal alligator attack. Despite his father’s desperate attempts to save him, the incident unfolded tragically as the alligator performed a notorious death roll.

Eleven-year-old Brodie Terry was enjoying a fishing outing at Nelson’s Fish Camp in Marion County, Florida, on June 27. As he was about to release a catch back into the water, the frightening attack occurred, according to WKMG reports.

An eight-foot, seven-inch alligator suddenly latched onto Brodie’s hand, inciting a desperate and swift response from those nearby.

“Brodie’s father leaped into the water, attempting to pry open the gator’s mouth,” recounted family member Andrew Raines to WKMG.

Raines further explained that the alligator then executed a roll, which ultimately led to the tragic loss of Brodie’s hand.

Gators perform the maneuver, known as a roll, to drown and tear apart their prey.

Doctors desperately tried to save Brodie’s hand before it was later amputated. He was released from the hospital Friday and is recovering back in his native Pennsylvania.

The alligator involved in the attack was later killed by Florida wildlife officials.

“This tragic accident has not only changed Brodie’s life but has also placed a tremendous burden on his family as they navigate the aftermath,” his family say.

“Brodie’s passion for fishing, baseball and football have always brought him joy, and now he faces the challenge of adapting to his new circumstances while holding onto the things he loves.”

Florida is home to around 1.3 million gators – and the state has recorded more than 450 attacks since 1948.

But just over 30 of those have proved to be fatal, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission revealed.

The day after Brodie was attacked, Florida hiker Brittany Clark died after a gator chomped down on her arm and twisted into a death roll.

She died en-route to a hospital as a result of the “multiple blunt force injuries of the upper extremities” she suffered.

Clark was only swimming in around three feet of water in the Econlockhatchee River when she was attacked at Little Big Econ State Forest.

Cuba Faces Third Major Blackout in 2023 Amid Deepening Power Crisis

0

On Monday, an extensive blackout left all of Cuba in darkness, reflecting the severe energy challenges increasingly impacting the country’s delicate power infrastructure.

Approximately 10 million residents experienced the outage, though some regions received partial electricity restoration later on.

“The National Electric Power System has completely disconnected,” Cuba’s government-managed Electric Union announced early Monday. “Investigations into the causes are ongoing.”

The frequency of power outages in Cuba has escalated in recent years, largely due to persistent fuel shortages and aging electrical grids. The situation intensified after former President Donald Trump expanded sanctions in January, coupled with threats of imposing tariffs on nations supplying oil to Cuba.

During Monday’s blackout, public transportation was largely halted, and officials said tens of thousands of surgeries were canceled nationwide, according to The Associated Press (AP).

Authorities later said one generating unit had resumed operations roughly two hours after the collapse.

“Microsystems are already operational throughout the country, to ensure protection for vital services,” the Electric Union said.

The energy minister said officials were working to restore power while accusing the U.S. of contributing to Cuba’s energy struggles.

“Vital services continue to be protected, amidst this complex situation exacerbated by the energy blockade we face,” Vicente de la O Levy said.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel also blamed U.S. policies, describing the energy blockade as a “genocidal” measure imposed by Washington.

“While the U.S. tries to induce a social explosion through asphyxiation by blocking fuel access to #Cuba, the UNE mobilizes to reverse the SEN outage,” Díaz-Canel said, referring to Cuba’s National Electric Power System.

“What the electrical workers are doing in the midst of a genocidal energy blockade is heroic.”

Cuba’s energy crisis intensified earlier this year after a U.S. military operation captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and halted Venezuelan oil exports, cutting off a key source of fuel for the island.

While Cuba produces only about 40% of the fuel it needs, a Russian tanker delivered roughly 730,000 barrels of oil to the country in March, supplies that were depleted by the end of April, according to The AP.

To conserve fuel, the Cuban government has imposed scheduled power outages that have lasted more than 24 consecutive hours in some areas, the outlet said.

A blackout in early March affected Cuba’s western provinces, while a separate outage in mid-March plunged the entire island into darkness.

Inside the Extravagance: Taylor Swift’s Wedding Guests Share Their Perspectives

0

The much-anticipated wedding of pop sensation Taylor Swift and football star Travis Kelce was intended to be a ‘magical’ representation of their love story and a testament to Taylor’s immense global influence.

Hosted at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden on July 3, the event was grand in its design but reportedly fell short in execution, according to some disgruntled attendees. Critiques emerged post-celebration concerning the ‘tacky’ and ‘chaotic’ atmosphere, highlighted by an early champagne shortage and lengthy lines at the buffet tables.

One guest expressed surprise at the buffet-style dining, exclaiming, ‘I couldn’t believe that there was a buffet at the wedding of the year!’ For them, it seemed an unexpectedly casual choice.

The scene became even more noteworthy with tales of well-known figures like Julia Roberts and Steven Spielberg queuing for food. As one attendee recounted, ‘There were slightly chaotic scenes around the food carts with all these amazing A-listers having to stand in line. It wasn’t quite what I expected.’ This unexpected twist added a layer of unanticipated informality to the otherwise star-studded affair.

Adding to the controversy was a hierarchy system that placed guests from A-list to D-list based on their importance to the bride, dictating their arrival times. This stratified approach drew further mixed reactions, with its potentially uncomfortable implications.

British supermodel Cara Delevingne, for example, was in the first, D list contingent, getting to the Madison Square Garden at 2.30pm, a full three hours before the ceremony.

Actor Bradley Cooper and TV host Graham Norton were not far behind, arriving by 3.30pm. Taylor’s best friend Abigail Anderson, whom she’s known since her high school days in Nashville, Tennessee, only showed up at 4.30pm.

The most important guests arrived as instructed closer to the time of the 5.30pm ceremony.

A source said: ‘It was surprisingly chaotic inside. Arrivals were staggered with people having to wait for hours with nothing to do. The cocktails only started at 4pm. People literally were twiddling their thumbs for hours.

‘If you were in the 2.30pm time slot, you couldn’t even amuse yourself by checking your phone. You were just standing around like a lemon wondering why the hell you were forced to arrive so early.’

Everyone had to give up their phones upon arrival – and faced long queues to collect them at the end of the night.

Before giving up hers, Joann Jordan, wife of personal trainer Rob Jordan, shared a look at the transformation of the infamously unglamorous venue in midtown New York. In one of the photos, Rob and Joann walk up a large staircase covered in a red carpet, which is surrounded by white and dark pink curtains.

‘An unforgettable evening in New York celebrating the beginning of a beautiful new chapter for our dear friends, Travis and Taylor. Love was in the air, the city was magical, and every detail was simply unforgettable!’ she gushed.

Kelce’s friend, DJ Chop UFL, also shared photos on the same two staircases. ‘The secret garden was an unbelievable celebration and experience! So happy for my brother and sister Trav & Tay Tay. Congratulations once again! Yesterday was perfect,’ he said.

A video obtained by the Daily Mail shows guests queuing up to walk through a ‘castle door’ into the inner sanctum of the wedding located inside the vast venue, which can seat 20,000.

News website TMZ reported that the theme was Wizard Of Oz meets Alice In Wonderland.

A source says: ‘I know everyone was saying how it was all decked out fairytale garden-style so you’d never even know it was Madison Square Garden – but apparently this is not true.

‘When you got inside, some of the flowers, vines and garlands were wrapped so badly around the seating that they barely camouflaged the plastic bucket-style stadium seats. It was all quite ghastly and tacky. They had tried to cover up that it was a wedding in a stadium, and that failed.

‘Also, there were loads of huge fake plastic trees all over the place and it just looked bizarre.’

The specifics of the theme appeared to be lost on the guests – some said it was ‘fairground Americana’ while others described it as ‘an enchanted forest’.

Even more bizarrely, dotted around the stadium were traditional pinball and slot machines swagged with pink, peach and coral drapes and lots of gold heraldic renderings of the love-birds’ initials T&T.

Another unusual element to the wedding was a raffle. The celebrity guests were invited to win raffle tickets by playing games like mini golf, pinball and a ring toss during the post-nuptial party.

A number were later notified that they had won prizes which included designer Dior and Chanel bags, a Cartier watch and a classic 1970 Chevy car. Singer Avril Lavigne, who performed karaoke later in the evening, was reportedly one of the lucky millionaires who won a free bag.

In all, the event apparently cost billionaire Taylor and her beau at least $20 million (£15 million). They also made a $26 million (£19.5 million) donation to charities, including children’s hospitals and food banks.

The wedding itself was officiated by actor and comedian Adam Sandler, who is legally ordained and whose daughters are huge Swifties. Kelce became friendly with Sandler on the set of his 2025 Netflix comedy Happy Gilmore 2. Apparently Sandler joked that he accepted the gig ‘in order to get both Travis and Taylor in one of his next movies’ or to negotiate a good price in case he ever produced a movie about their life and love.

The bride was dressed in Christian Dior haute couture, and flanked by her new nieces – the daughters of Kelce’s brother Jason and wife Kylie – who threw petals as she walked towards her groom to an instrumental version of her hit, Love Story.

There were no traditional bridesmaids. Instead Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as Taylor’s ‘man of honour’ while the groom’s brother Jason was his best man.

The vows, according to ABC anchor and former Bill Clinton aide George Stephanopoulos, who spoke briefly as he left, were ‘everything you would hope for – real, vulnerable, serious and silly’. News website TMZ reported that the couple exchanged deeply personal vows from ‘little books’ in the stadium.

A guest tells me more prosaically: ‘The ceremony was really long. Taylor’s vows took around 20 minutes to make and it was the same again for Travis.’

What’s not known is that sadly most of the invited guests had to stand throughout. The source added: ‘There were only about 150 official seats which meant that about 800 people had to stand throughout the ceremony.

‘People were trying to reserve seats by throwing their jackets over them, but they got booted out of those seats by staff because those were reserved for the closest people.’

And then came the food and the partying – with dancing, a DJ and live music performances, including former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney singing I Want To Hold Your Hand.

A source said: ‘It was an amazing event but people couldn’t believe that the champagne ran out really early. That felt kind of astonishing.

‘There were also people who were surprised about the food. It was not great and served buffet-style with long lines if you wanted to eat.’

The source adds: ‘The problems were all because the wedding was so big. At a normal wedding, everyone knows the bride and groom, and you don’t have to stagger arrivals or queue for food because there aren’t 1,000 people.

‘Also, at a normal wedding people have a table to sit on and are then catered for. This was far more of a stadium vibe. People kind of felt like they existed to be Taylor’s audience on the day.’

One guest said that there was genuine excitement and surprise over the performance by Sir Paul McCartney, however. He and Taylor are big fans of each other’s work, and she is also close to his daughter, fashion designer Stella.

At one point Taylor’s groom Travis Kelce also got up to sing. ‘I think it was at Rod Stewart standard,’ says the guest. ‘It wasn’t quite at Macca’s level.’

It is reported that Travis and Taylor – never known for underplaying their cultural significance – are making a documentary about the big day, which will detail the wedding planning process from picking the flowers to how the event was organised backstage. This will be sent to every guest as a thank you for coming.

Whether it can erase those less delightful memories of food carts and lengthy queues remains to be seen.

Kylian Mbappé Denounces Paraguayan Senator Over Alleged Racism

0

The French Football Federation has announced plans to initiate legal action against a Paraguayan senator, following her allegedly racist remarks about Kylian Mbappé, the star striker and captain of the French national team.

The controversy arose after France secured a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the FIFA World Cup’s Round of 16. Mbappé was instrumental in the win, scoring the match’s sole goal from a penalty in the 70th minute.

In the aftermath of the match, Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla took to X to express her views on the game, targeting Mbappé with personal insults. In her post, she labeled the French captain as “newly rich, arrogant and ugly,” and made derogatory comments concerning his Cameroonian roots and nationality.

Reacting strongly, the French Football Federation condemned these comments as “criminal and reprehensible,” emphasizing their frustration with the derogatory nature of the remarks.

“Such statements are a disgrace to those who utter them, as well as to those who propagate them. The players of the French national team embody the spirit of France; hence, insulting them equates to insulting our nation,” the Federation remarked.

The federation said it will file a report with the public prosecutor’s office, with a view to starting legal proceedings.

A footballer wearing a blue jersey smiles as he hugs his two teammates.

Mbappé also responded to the remarks on social media, describing Amarilla as a “despicable woman” who he believes is “unworthy” of her position.

“You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition,” the 27-year-old said.

“Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup …”

‘Disgraceful, vile, outrageous’

Paraguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement following the incident.

“The Government of the Republic of Paraguay deplores and rejects the remarks made by Senator Celeste Amarilla regarding the captain of the French national team,” it read.

“These statements run counter to the values and principles of peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity that our country promotes.”

The government added that the Republic of Paraguay is governed by the “principle of the separation and independence of state powers”. In this context, it said statements made by Amarilla “in no way” represent the position of the Paraguayan government or people.

A crowd of French World Cup fans wearing red, white and blue raise their arms and flags in excitement.

French President Emmanuel Macron’s office confirmed that Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios had written to him to express support and condemn the remarks.

Guy Stephan, the assistant coach of France’s national football team, summed up the incident in three words — “disgraceful, vile, outrageous”.

Amirilla, 61, is a lawyer in Paraguay and member of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party.

She posted an open letter in French and Spanish directed to Mbappé on social media on Tuesday, saying her problems were with him rather than France.

The politician said she regretted issuing the “same insults” to Mbappé that she had received as a mixed-race person, and she had deleted her post.

But she also demanded an apology from Mbappé, accusing him of gender-based violence in his comments, and threatening legal action if he did not retract them.

She previously posted about Mbappé on Saturday — criticising the footballer’s heritage and intelligence on social media.

In a statement, the French Football Association reaffirmed that it “offers its full support to its captain, its players and, more broadly, to all victims of such abhorrent remarks”.

“Now more than ever, the FFF is committed to combating racism and all forms of discrimination.”

Spain’s Coach De la Fuente Praises Merino’s Match-Winning Performance Against Portugal

Spain’s head coach, Luis de la Fuente, expressed his admiration for Mikel Merino following the midfielder’s decisive goal. Merino’s late strike off the bench clinched a 1-0 victory over Portugal, propelling La Roja into the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In the 91st minute in Dallas, Merino found the net after an assist from fellow substitute Ferran Torres, concluding a tense Round of 16 match and sending Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal home.

Reflecting on the triumph, De la Fuente highlighted the impact of Spain’s substitutes, noting that their contributions were pivotal in a match he likened to a final.

“It truly was a spectacular match, almost like a final before the final. As anticipated, we faced challenges right up until the last moments,” De la Fuente remarked.

“We delivered a well-rounded performance, but the key players are those who step off the bench. I advised Merino to stick to his usual play style, aiding both midfield and attack. Our aim was to ensure a strong pace leading up to potential extra time. The players’ contributions have been exceptional.”

Coach backs Yamal and Rodri

The Spain manager reserved special praise for Merino, revealing the long-standing relationship he has built with the Arsenal midfielder through the national team’s youth ranks.

“I’m very happy for him. I have a great affection for all the players, but with Mikel Merino there’s something special because we’ve known each other for a long time.”

“If necessary, I’d go to pick him up at his house. He’s world-class. Mikel never disappoints; he’s a safe bet.”

De la Fuente also defended teenage winger Lamine Yamal, insisting the Barcelona youngster produced one of his finest performances despite facing tough opposition.

“I think he played one of his best games; it’s a very important day for his growth.”

“He instilled fear. It’s one of the best games in Lamine’s history… and there’s more to come.”

The coach also highlighted the influence of midfielder Rodri.

“Rodri is the guiding light of this team. A player with an exceptional presence. He provides balance. He’s the best player in the world in his position.”

Spain will now face Belgium in the World Cup quarter-finals after the Red Devils defeated the United States 4-1.

Looking ahead, De la Fuente insisted his side remain focused regardless of the opponent.

“We don’t care who we face. We’re happy to be in the quarter-finals and we’re going to give it our all until the end. Our opponents will have to beat us.”

Arlington Heights Approves Exciting ‘Sip and Stroll’ Plan for Outdoor Leisure

0

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) — The village of Arlington Heights is advancing with an initiative to allow residents and visitors to enjoy drinks while strolling through its downtown area.

On Monday night, trustees gave the green light to a new pilot program that establishes a “social district.”

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

This initiative will permit participating bars and restaurants to offer take-out beverages.

Customers can enjoy their drinks so long as they stay within the confines of a designated four-block area, aptly named the “alfresco zone.”

This pedestrian-only zone has become a lively hub for dining and socializing, especially during warmer months.

Larry Rebodos, owner of Big Shot Piano Lounge and Restaurant, said the open-air setup continues to draw crowds.

“All the restaurants are out here. We’ve got seating, I’ve got live music playing outside,” Rebodos said.

Village Trustee Tom Schwingbeck introduced the sip-and-stroll idea. He said he was inspired by a similar setup in St. Joseph, Michigan, where he often vacations.

“I’ve seen how successful this can be for the downtown area there,” Schwingbeck said.

He added that the concept could help ease long waits at popular restaurants, saying, “Some of our restaurants don’t take reservations and it might be a 45-minute wait. You can go in; you can grab a drink and stroll around in our downtown business district.”

The pilot program would begin in August run through October, operating Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 5 to 9 p.m. Rebodos said he supports the plan.

“I was born in Chicago. We have three months’ worth of good weather. So, every minute counts. I was all on board when they brought this up,” he said.

Not everyone on the board agreed. Trustee Robin LaBedz said she worries about potential litter and underage drinking once alcohol leaves restaurant premises.

“I’m not worried about our restaurants checking IDs, they’re great about that, they know what they’re doing,” LaBedz said. “It’s when the alcohol comes back, away from restaurants and is in the public space. What then.”

The goal is to launch the program on July 30.

Sunny Hostin Expresses Safety Concerns in American Flag-Adorned Neighborhoods

Sunny Hostin, a familiar face on “The View,” has voiced her discomfort once more regarding neighborhoods displaying the American flag. This isn’t a new stance for Hostin, who first expressed similar sentiments back in 2021.

During a recent discussion on the show marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States and reflecting on the nation’s current state, Hostin revisited her previous remarks. It was then that she openly disclosed her unease when encountering neighborhoods adorned with numerous American flags.

Reflecting on her decade-long tenure on the show, Hostin recalled, “Many years ago, I mentioned on this show that there are instances when I walk into a community, and American flags are prominently displayed everywhere. In such moments, I can’t help but feel uneasy because a segment of this country has redefined the American flag. They associate it with White supremacy, which is a misuse of its symbolism—it should never represent that, but some have turned it into a symbolical weapon.”

Her comments came on the heels of a panel discussion regarding a viral photograph depicting uniformed White nationalists riding the Metro in Washington, DC, while a Black woman sits nearby with a solemn expression. The image sparked conversations about the flag’s changing perceptions.

The image in question followed a march by the group in Washington, DC, over the recent weekend, drawing national attention and further highlighting the complexities surrounding the American flag’s current significance.

“That, for me, was a defining image of modern America for Black Americans,” Hostin said, condemning the American-flag-style insignias on their caps.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin took the opportunity to blast fringe activists on both sides of the political spectrum, but guest host Michelle Buteau, who had celebrated 4th of July by eating a cake that said “America, Do Better B—-” argued this was an indictment of the nation as a whole.

“When you say it’s the best nation. The best nation for who? Because if we are celebrating 250 years, what are we exactly celebrating, is what I want to know,” Buteau said. “So I’m really glad that picture was taken, because that picture is how we feel walking into many rooms, down the street. That picture is how we feel and nobody will believe us. So look at that picture and understand how it feels.”

“The flag belongs to all of us,” Griffin replied.

In 2021, Hostin spoke on “The View” about the phenomenon of Black Americans feeling uncomfortable in neighborhoods with American flags, defending MSNBC analyst Mara Gay for her controversial admission that she felt it “disturbing” to see American flags, Trump flags and condemnations of then-President Joe Biden in Long Island, New York.

“When someone of color, a Black woman, is telling you her feelings, people need to listen and not, you know, repudiate it and not say, ‘Well, that can’t be true,’” Hostin had said at the time, later adding, “When I drive into a neighborhood, and it’s not July 4th, and I’m not in a predominantly military household neighborhood and there are flags, American flags, everywhere, alongside Trump flags, alongside flags with stars in a circle, I feel threatened.”

“Because the message is very clear,” she continued. “It’s a message of White supremacy. It’s a message of racism, and it’s a message of their country, not my country. I don’t understand why that would receive backlash. People need to listen when I am saying this is how I feel. This is my experience in this country.”
